You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff May 17, 2025

Okay...now that Campbell has returned Supergirl to those things which have made her so appealing over the years, shes simply going to HAVE to do the same thing for Batgirl. Theres really no other option. Campbell is simply going to NEED to create a Batgirl series in which shes a genius detective and librarian living in a cozy, little apartment in Gotham City. There really isnt any other option on this. Im sorry. I dont make the rules. Thats just hte way that things are. If Campbell is going to be this good at returning a very, very cool Supergirl to the page, shes simply going to have to do the same thing for Batgirl. Read Full Review

Supergirl Comic Box Commentary - Anj May 16, 2025

I guess we'll have to wait and see. A young Supergirl, being a hero, trying to figure out who she is, and striving to do better. It's why I fell in love with this character decades ago and I'm reading it again. Thank you Sophie Campbell! Read Full Review

Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield May 14, 2025

A lot happens in this issue, and it's fast-paced, chaotic, and full of infodumping and references. It also has brilliant, vivid art and an extremely likable lead character. Great start for a character who has deserved a new a-list title for a long time. Read Full Review

    ComicBook.com - Matthew Aguilar May 14, 2025

Supergirl embodies the All In era, mixing in vintage elements of the mythology with a fresh and modern tone, and it always feels unquestionably Supergirl. If you want a perfect place to begin your Supergirl journey or are simply looking to get lost in a new adventure, you can't go wrong with Supergirl #1. Read Full Review

KPB Comics - Phillip Creary May 14, 2025

Supergirl's return to Midvale in Supergirl #1 is immediately complicated by the emergence of another Supergirl, setting up a compelling mystery around identity and belonging. While the artwork and premise are strong, the deliberate pacing might leave some readers wanting a quicker dive into the new direction of Kara's story. Read Full Review

Get Your Comic On - Neil Vagg May 14, 2025

Supergirl leaps out of the gate with a high energy first issue. Sophie Campbell exudes a level of understanding and connection with the Kara which makes them a dynamic storytelling duo. In the style of classic teen-tales like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there's plenty of real world analogies to be found wrapped up within high stakes superhero antics. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Brett May 14, 2025

Supergirl #1 is a fun comic to read. There's a retro charm about it that's a throwback to the days of goofy stories and wild ideas. But, as a debut, the issue doesn't make me need to come back. It feels like a casual read instead of a need to find out what happens next. That's not a bad thing overall and there's an audience that'll love the classic feel of it all but for a start. It's entertaining, the type of comic to relax and read and enjoy during a nice sunny day. Read Full Review

Major Spoilers - Jonathan Cadotte May 16, 2025

Supergirl #1 tries to reach back in time for a lot of its story elements and some fun little easter eggs. Unfortunately, it also brings back some awkward storytelling techniques like trying to shove years' worth of backstory into normal conversations. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez May 14, 2025

Supergirl #1 is the fresh start that the character has needed. Sophie Campbell does a good job using this debut issue to establish multiple storylines for the long-term future of this series. The focus of the series' first story arc is one that has potential but also one that hopefully isn't very long given the other more interesting storylines this issue gets over. If you're interested in picking up a comic book starring Kara Zor-El this is one to check out. Read Full Review

The Aspiring Kryptonian - David Beasley May 14, 2025

Coming off her last two space adventures and guest appearances in "Power Girl, Kara felt a bit off to me, but taking into account this is also an introductory tale, it can be forgiven. That being said, Supergirl #1 and its premise and execution has me wanting to know more and I'm intrigued to see it all play out. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Tyler Davis May 15, 2025

Supergirl #1 feels designed for an audience different than your regularly scheduled Wednesday Warriors, but that does not hold it back from being a good time. DC Comics News - Matthew Lloyd May 14, 2025

Unfortunately, the best things about Supergirl #1 are the nostalgia and the deep continuity references- but it does go a long way in making this issue enjoyable. The tone and visual appearance doesn't seem to fit with the current Superman line in general. It also doesn't help that this whole "imposter storyline just made an appearance in Power Girl #20. Despite the fact that the current continuity is in play and it's clear she's at least in her mid-20's, thematically it feels as if Kara hasn't matured much from her younger self and visually it makes it difficult to believe she's older than 17. It's uneven at best, and the nostalgia can only support this for so long. Read Full Review

Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez May 14, 2025

Supergirl #1looks, reads, and resonates like a CW soap opera squarely targeted at tween girls who talk like Valley Girls from the 1990s. Sophie Campbell's mystery about an imposter Supergirl is intriguing, and Campbell's bright art is super-solid (barring the weird choice to give everyone an overbite). However, this comic reads like it was meant for a very specific audience, and that audience probably doesn't include you. Read Full Review

An absolutely joyful comic, and of course with a creative team like that it looks amazing. It can be rough being a Supergirl fan sometimes, so a comic that leans into why she's fun is really a breath of fresh air!

DC has had major issues with Supergirl. In efforts to reinvent the character over and over they have given her so many personalities that she has no personality of her own. Is Supergirl a temperamental misfit that punches everything, is she a girl that heads down to seedy bar to drink when things get overwhelming, starts barfights and tells kids to sod off, is she a drugaddled suicidal kid, is she someone who would sacrifice earth for the glory of a Kryptonian society etc etc.

It has all been built on the well accepted lie that original Supergirl was Superman wearing a skirt, and DC must give her a new pigeon hole. But that's not what they are doing, they are shoving her into pigeon holes that are already filled with better suite more

The cancelled Power Girl to make way for this? Thank you DC.

Sophie Campbell should have been writing PG.

That said, I resally liked this issue. It's a nice set-up story and a terrific plot with this mystery Supergirl (which might lead into the soliciated Satan Girl story that's coming in a couple months - and if you don't know who Satan Girl, you might not be a long time Legion of Super-Heroes fan).

I was afraid the art was going to be over the top YA like Fire and Ice has been, so I was pleased to see it wasn't. It's not super detailed like the majority of artists today but it works well page after page.

Whomever this Sophie Campbell is, I only see her getting better and better.

I honestly had no hopes. As Superman is my favorite superhero of all time at the moment, I always saw Supergirl as just Clark Kent's cousin who was not interesting compared to the main man. She had a rebellious attitude, and she just was unlikable and aws in his shadow.

But this issue finally won me over. I like the writing and characterization for Kara Zor-El, it's more digestible and engaging compared to Tom King's Supergirl: Woman of Tommorow. I love how the art is bright and colorful, and I'm digging this. This is the best debut Supergirl series, and after the New 52, and DC Rebirth I did not have high hopes. But this won me over

I found the art and colors very beautiful. The plot structure is very similar to the Silver Age. I liked the characterization too. I liked it overall.

Cutesy tripe that borders on unreadable. This is a book for fans of a certain type of writing and not specifically for fans of Supergirl so be warned. Of course if you know Sophie Campbells work then you already knew that. The art is too cartoony for me but is still well done except for the gopher teeth everyone has. The plump supergirl looks to be wearing a mouth guard in one panel. I'm not really sure why this type of book isn't under it's own imprint by now.

I went into this issue hoping for something fresh and compelling, but what I found was disappointingly shallow. The writing felt overly simplistic and strangely outdated—not in a nostalgic or intentional way, but more like something pulled straight from a half-hearted script from the 1950s, without any of the charm. The character responses to major situations lacked any real depth or originality, and the dialogue came off as forced and uninspired. For a first issue meant to launch a new chapter, this felt more like a misfire than a setup. It’s hard to shake the feeling that the creative team isn’t fully invested in making this book succeed

Hate that they got rid of the first costume she ever had in the comics that was for an adult and a high school student.
