Rated T+
Excalibur#6 is everything that Tini Howard promised the series would be and more. It's clear what each character is grappling with and it seems that Howard & co. have barely scratched the surface of the conflict in Otherworld. Apocalypse's presence adds an everpresent unease and suspicion that keeps even the quietest moments between the team intriguing. Overall it's a kinetic, emotional, and incredibly sexy ride! Excalibur, while a cult fan favorite of many X-fans, hasn't felt like it's had its due since the late stagesof the first volume in the late 1990s. Thanks to Howard and To, this is a series that feels vital and thrilling for the first time since then, and this issue sets up the potential for plenty more of that to come. Read Full Review
Excalibur #6 continues to emphasize character and relationships, and that continues to reveal the best this new series has to offer. Read Full Review
Overall this book finally finds its groove. Many of us questioned Apocalypse’s involvement and now it looks like many of us could be right, or are we? Just when I was about to write this book off it pulls me back in. Read Full Review
In the rollercoaster ride that has been EXCALIBUR, issue #6 is one of the high points. It still has its bumps, the most glaring being the self-inflicted spoiler on page 2. However, the consistent art and improved storytelling from early issues make EXCALIBUR #6 worth a look. Read Full Review
THE GOOD:
-Great art.
-Apocalypse is still the most interesting thing here.
-I kinda liked the falling action. The last three scenes were genuinely good character moments. Let's hope this series can get back on track. Or... on a track.
THE BAD:
-This series is so boring.
-This story is ridiculously un-engaging. I'm just watching events happen, not caring about anything.
-As a conclusion to a story arc, this was really anticlimactic. Nothing felt conclusion worthy. Everything just ended, with none of the stakes ever feeling real.
Prelude:
Excalibur has been very good so far so as we hit the final issue of the first arc, let's see how Howard lands this.
The Good:
Interesting use of the Resurrection Protocols.
Interesting infographics in this issue.
Love all the fights that happened in this issue.
The endings of this. Great set-up for future issues.
Rogue brings up an interesting point.
Marcus To's art is great like always.
The Bad:
Nothing.
Conclusion:
An almost perfect end to this first arc of Excalibur.
Still just not invested, and even less so when the twist is spoiled at the start of the book via map?! I would probably like Jamie if I knew him, though.
This was probably my favorite issue of the run so far. I find Apocalypse interesting. The Braddock stuff is clicking for me. And honestly, Rogue and Gambit are always welcome. Oh, by the way, it's called a "vivisection," Apocalypse. Not a "dissection, but alive, lol."
The best issue of this series to the date.
Never a reader of Braddocks. Now Im kinda interested.
First off, I’m a little disappointed on how stereotypical Howard wrote Rogue and Gambit this issue. I feel like it’s such a cliche that major comic couples don’t have kids, at least for Marvel. Anyways, while I don’t find Betsy and Brian that interesting, it’s Apocalypse and Jamie that make this comic so extraordinary. Apocalypse is so fascinating and Jamie is getting more attention in this comic than he has had in years. The art by To wasn’t too good this issue but I’ll keep coming back as long as Apocalypse continues to plan and scheme
It's a great ending of an arc, even if it's probably the weakest issue of the series so far.
This was a nice conclusion to the Morgan Le Fey sub-plot. Excited to see more of Jaime and the other Braddock siblings interact.
"This body here's all yours"
Immensely entertaining.
This issue showed how good this book can be and what great potential it possesses.
" Take it. Take the sword Brian. It isn't a punishement-- you could do good by it ! You are a righteous and virtuous man, a Knight of the REALM ! "
- BESTY BRADDOCK
The prose is still weaker than I'd like, but the way the arc-plot ties up is cool and the visuals remain strong.
