If youre interested in so many of the main players from Thanos, to Black Swan, as well as the Illuminati, this issue is for you. Hickman continues this smart and intriguing tale that will keep fans on the edge of their seats and passionate for whats to come. Pick this issue up as well as the trade! While those far more invested in the Marvel Universe and all the Incursion events that have lead up to this may get a lot more out of it, I'm admittedly getting a more superficial view of everything. And I'm more than fine with it because this is just a treat to read and engage with with both the dialogue and the artwork. I have no idea what the real endgame here is because it doesn't seem like there is one beyond a complete relaunch with some changes. This issue gives us a look at some good character material involving a few more truths of how Battleworld came together, some of the tricks of it, and some of the tragedies. This issue was a great read, even if the series has been plagued by delays to the point of many readers losing interest and shifting their focus to the launch of All-New, All-Different Marvel. Pieces are beginning to fall into place and we are beginning to get a real sense of the world that Hickman has painstakingly created. This issue is much more action-centric than the previous one, which is a welcome departure from the somewhat plodding pace of the series so far. Esad Ribic's art is fantastic as always, which one not would not only expect but demand given the length of time between issues. Overall, this is another solid issue in a series that has been consistently high in quality throughout. If you've become a bit disenchanted with Secret Wars because of the delays, I encourage you to give it another chance and pick up this book. Read Full Review

Secret Wars #6 does not shed a lot of light on what is coming, but it puts many key pieces into motion for the grand finale of this huge story. Reality as many of these characters know it is faltering with a masterful writer bringing years of story to a head. Those who thought the Fantastic Four are no longer a relevant part of the Marvel picture had best grab this comic…hell, any Hickman fan had best grab this comic. Secret Wars #6 is not just a big, dumb event comic, even though at times it feels like it is marketed exactly as one. Hickman and Ribic together fill the text and the visuals with symbolism, sub-text, allegories, and motifs it'd be impossible to hit all of them in the length of this essay/review. To this author, it is reminiscent of Final Crisis, in that it too is full of subtext and symbolism and metaphor, but both execute it in extremely smart ways. We get more insight into the mythos of Battleworld when Sue tells Franklin his bedtime story. Sue tells of a modified fantastic four origin, where the Human Torch was sacrificed to become the sun of Battleworld. And The thing was made into the massive shield that keeps the dead away from the rest of Battleworld. It is a very touching story highlighting the heroism of both characters featured, however it raises some interesting questions. Read Full Review

As ever, Secret Wars is well worth the wait. This issue gives the series a kick in the pants as far as the plot is concerned. It provides a grim but compelling view of the declining state of Battleworld while also delivering a number of great character moments along the way. We got our second exposition heavy issue in Secret Wars that carried some very cool and fascinating elements. Even with a lack of action, we learned a ton about the world that Doom has created and a little bit about how it might get destroyed. There seem to be several factions that might threaten Doom's stranglehold on Battleworld and any of them has a legit shot. Still, this is Hickman, so you know it won't be that straight a line. In the end, Secret Wars benefits from its continued focus on the internal lives of its characters, and their manipulative struggles, even as it loses some of the plot when introducing new developments. "When in doubt, set the story forward a few weeks" seems to be a common solution for Hickman. Comics already move pretty quickly, so I wish would could savor some important fight scenes and conflicts, and instead the characters are already moving into positions for the third and final act. We get some interaction between the players that we haven't seen for some time, and even some quick but poignant moments for Doom and Dad, but it's not enough to feel truly satisfied. Common knowledge would dictate that with the announcement that Secret Wars was being stretched out to include a ninth issue, it would give writer Jonathan Hickman much more space to expand the story. Such is not the case with this latest installment however as too much detail is left missing from the pages. Readers are told what has transpired instead of shown the actual events, and because of this are tasked with blindly accepting everything that has happened between issues five and six as casually as if they happened on panel. They say war is hell, and I'm sure writing an event comic book is no picnic, either. Secret Wars is not only in danger of losing its momentum due to its uneven publishing schedule, but Hickman's ultra-dense plotting isn't winning him any converts, either. For a book that's supposed to be about bringing together the best eras of Marvel's storied publishing line, there is so much focus on dour characters, robbing this series of its energy and its promise. One would hope that Hickman could score a victory with his final two issues, but with much of Marvel's publishing line already beginning their post-event relaunches, Secret Wars might turn into yesterday's news. Another slower issue, but brimming with exciting things to come.

Who says the FF are dead? Apparently, this is their swan song and damn it's a long but interesting song. Doom's world is literally crumbling around him with the barons about to stab each other in the back, Valaria's questions and oh yeah Thanos' speech to a lost FF member. But the best part of the story happens with the hamburger scene to give some brevity to an intense book. Props to Hickman and Ribic on their work now only if we can get the schedule down I would be happier.

Things are getting in place for an explosive ending. This issue showed us how actually vulnerable even a god like Doom can be, with the Spider-Men finding out about his source of power, Black Panther getting a weapon that could change everything and return everything as it was before, the Reeds uniting their mighty minds to conspire against the ruler of Battleworld and Thanos inspiring a missing character to stand up and fight. It all seems ready for an amazing finale, but I fear that all this might be an all talk and no walk, and that everything may be re-established as if nothing happened. I honestly hope not, but judging from the other series that are bound to start soon, my hopes wobble.

Ho-hum. More of the same. Lots of talk about "stuff happening", lots of build up for elements that weren't included in Secret Wars proper. Hickman has one mode, and it's painfully dull.
