Ultimates #5 reignites an age-old conflict. However, within remains an exciting sci-fi and superhero story, with a fight scene that excites from start to finish. Read Full Review
From its opening Crazy Horse and Theodore Roosevelt epigraphs, Ultimates #5 has incisive sociopolitical commentary, but Frigeri excels at blocking out action scenes using inset panels to demonstrate each of Charli's trick arrows. Read Full Review
Frigeri delivers some beautiful art in this issue. I love the character designs as well as the action. It was visually stunning throughout. Read Full Review
Overall, Ultimates #5 is a thrilling and action-packed installment in the series. The introduction of a new archer adds a fresh dynamic, while the growing threat of the Hellfire Club keeps the stakes high. Fans of the Ultimates and those who enjoy superhero action will appreciate this issue. The Ultimates #5 works best as a solid argument as to why Hawkeye is a good contributor to the team and a necessary member given his attitude. This issue establishes he kind of thinking these heroes need to succeed in a world where they are the villains. Read Full Review
As a team-up comic book between Captain America and the new Hawkeye, The Ultimates #5 succeeds in what its goal was. Ultimate Hawkeye is put over as a strong new member to The Ultimates, while also showing great chemistry with Captain America. Though the lack of a superhero team vibe continues to cause The Ultimates come across as a series that is not hitting its full potential. Read Full Review
The Ultimates #5 introduces a cool new version of Hawkeye to join the fledgling group of heroes. Unfortunately, writer Deniz Camp can't get out of his own way, going overboard on the soapboxing instead of giving you a complete picture of Hawkeye's personality. What could have been one of the stronger variants in the Ultimate universe is squandered. Read Full Review
Plot
Tony Stark asks Captain America to investigate a version of Hawkeye that is not the one he was meant to be, as Clint rejected the mantle, someone else took it over and using arrows with Stane/Stark technology, he has caused havoc and deaths in his attacks on Roxxon.
This Hawkeye is called Charli Ramsey, he is an American Indian who has an agenda against Roxxon's projects that have affected indigenous lands.
Charli's indigenous name is Hawkeye, showing Cap how skilled he is, when Roxxon sends its army of mercenaries, Cap and Hawkeye fight them all and Steve Rogers is convinced that this Hawkeye is not a villain, that he is instead a formidable hero and ally.
The sequence of Hawkeye using his arrows more
This book just won’t stop being amazing. Ultimate Hawkeye may be my favorite Ultimate yet! It was awesome character introduction by Deniz Camp. They’re confident, snarky, political, & a total bad@$$. LOVE THEM.
Given their worldview, I thought it was insanely smart to juxtapose their introduction vis-à-vis a showdown with Captain America. While Cap stands for so much that is good, he is still a symbol of America itself, which has an awful history as it relates to the treatment of country’s indigenous people. It could have become an exaggerated pontification, but Camp’s dialogue was smart to highlight just enough of the injustices committed which shaped Hawkeye’s views of the world.
The book also looked stun more
I loved this issue. It had such a good introduction to the character and a fairly decent back and forth with Cap and Hawkeye. It's so interesting seeing all the dynamics and allignments of everyone as the stakes get closer and closer. Excited to see what happens more with this character.
One of my favorite issues of this series to date. The art was good but the writing was great. Cap studying Hawkeye during the "fight" was entertaining, as well as Hawkeye's reactions. Great intro issue for Hawkeye.
Pretty solid issue. Had some redundant parts, but the message was overall well done.
First miss of this ultimate run. Up until this one they’ve all been great. The new Hawkeye spends this whole time essentially trying to kill cap, who in return seems incompetent as he fails to land a single hit on Hawkeye.
