out of all the Absolute universe series, which one is your favorite, and what is the best in your opinion?
THE SECRET ORIGIN OF ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN! Something strange happened in the American heartland several years ago. Something that brought fear and darkness to a small Kansas town...and forever changed the lives of one kindly couple. Welcome to Smallville.
It's another brilliant issue in a line that has not missed yet. Read Full Review
When things do hit the fan, the action is stunning, with even this early version of Superman looking like a powerhouse. Despite that, he's all too human, once again showcasing the core of who Superman has always been. This version is perhaps even more so in some regards, and as the issue closes with some of the most powerful moments, there's also a welcome bit of intrigue thrown into the pot, teasing more powerful moments to come. The first half of this issue is filled with hopelessness before Kal-El enters the Kents lives, and that all changes for the short amount of time they have with each other. With the addition of the surprising reveal at the end, it makes for the best issue yet of Absolute Superman with its deepest story yet. Read Full Review
The best issue of the series yet finally lands Superman in Kansas, and the emotional story we get, the highs and the lows, was worth the wait. Read Full Review
A solid issue that builds brilliantly on everything set up in previous chapters. The new take on Kal's first meeting with the Kents was nicely handled and added some real depth to the story around Lazarus Corp. I'm looking forward to seeing how Kal-El deals with Ra's al Ghul and Brainiac when the time comes. Read Full Review
Absolute Superman #6 offers a tweaked origin, focusing on Kal-El's challenging teenage arrival and adoption by the Kents. While the issue benefits from strong character beats, especially the heartwarming Kent family dynamics, and Carmine Di Giandomenico's striking visuals, these strengths struggle against a slow-moving main plot. Overall, Absolute Superman #6 promises a compelling and unsettling departure from the usual Superman narrative. By focusing on the emotional impact of a dark event on the Kents and the town of Smallville, Aaron has the potential to deliver a truly memorable and haunting story. It's a must-read for those who enjoy character-driven narratives and stories that challenge the traditional superhero genre. Read Full Review
Absolute Superman #6 takes a bold approach to the Man of Steel's origins, emphasizing trauma, isolation, and the harsh realities of the Absolute Universe. While the Kents' role feels underdeveloped, the issue makes up for it with strong emotional storytelling, exciting art, and a compelling final twist. It's a must-read for fans of darker superhero narratives and those eager to see Superman pushed to his emotional limits. Read Full Review
So what do you think of the reveal? And I know it is a stretch but I still think there is an Evangelion 'angel' feel to Kal's angel arrival. Read Full Review
Absolute Superman #6picks up the pace and re-centers focus on Kal-El when he first arrives on Earth. Jason Aaron's script reinvigorates the series by building out Kal's character and explaining why he thinks and feels the way he does about Earth and Lazarus Corporation. Sadly, the five-issue building up to this point leads you to the classic Superman origin story with just a few tweaks, underlying a lack of imagination or surprise in Aaron's concept. A great book. Kind of wish we were getting a movie version of this Superman
Both beautiful and sad. I was moved by this. Well done Jason Aaron.
This was a different heart breaking twist for the origin of Kal-El. In this story, the Kents are still warm. But here Kal-El has to leave the Kents not because he wants to find his own path. But because he's forced to and how the Lazarus team is attacking the Kents, and they tell him to leave. This leaves a Superman without any hope and optimism, and how everything he touches he destroys.
Again, it's subtle but it clearly shows the difference between this Superman and the other main Supermen. Absolute Superman continues to be my personal favorite series out of the bunch thanks to Jason Aaron's writing. And honestly, Carmine Giandomenico's art works well for this issue, even if I do miss Rafal Sandoval.
A pretty good epilogue that shows the relation between this universe's Kal-El and the Kents. I would have liked a little more between them, and maybe we'll end up getting that in future issues, but I still enjoyed it. Giandomenico does a nice job of filling in here, as well. I may not have enjoyed this as much as some other issues of the book thus far, but I'm still really looking forward to what's next. Also, in a bit of a spoiler, I don't know why I was as surprised as I was to see Ra's al Ghul at the end.
