Hooo boy are the bigots mad about this one

I think some people just didn't read it lol...
An important remark: I'm not a SJW, not a feminist, not a woke guy or something like that. I'm pretty much the person many could describe as a bigot, but I would not. So, keep that in mind.
And what can I say about it? It's not about a feminism and body positive, not even about the diversity. It's a story about a typical teenager. Not all teenagers are the same, not all of them are like Mandy. But these kids are definitely exist.
And you know what? The idea of this book is not "HA-HA I'M A COOL TEENAGER, I'M SO PRETTY, I'M AWESOME, MY MOM IS SHIT AND STUPID, I'M SO COOL HA-HA". She has a realistic self-esteem. She doesn't think she's beautiful the way she is. She doesn't think she's so fucking clever so everyone else in the world can't match with her intelligence. She understands that she isn't clever for college enough, she understands that she isn't a model and she doesn't try to be something she can't be. Understand this, it's not about "LOOK AT ME, BE LIKE ME". She has some stupid shit in her mind about her mom and she doesn't know what to do with her life. But that's a problem, actually.
And she doesn't stay with this till the end! She changes! She understand that she actually likes her mother and she doesn't hate her. And she understands that her mom loves her too. And on her 17th birthday she's not that stupid of a teenager she was in the beginning of the book.
This is important. All the typical feminist and SJW stuff denies any personal growth and the change of a mind. The agenda says that we all are perfect the way we are (except if you are a bigot ha-ha-ha, then just die, this world doesn't need you bla bla bla). But it's a simple teenage story about a girl. And I don't believe it is an actual canon for the mainstream DC universe (which I really don't know, because that's maybe the first DC comic I've read...). Is it canon? If yes, that where's the Mandy now? I think they will just forget her, because it was one-book character.
Yeah, there's still some stupid shit like OH WOW SHE GETS HER POWERS ALL OF THE SUDDEN AT THE RIGHT MOMENT. And OH WOW THIS PRETTY CUTE POPULAR GIRL LOVES SOME DARK AND INSIGNIFICANT INTROVERT. Yeah, yeah, lesbian stuff, what a combo for a daughter of Starfire, actually. But does it really mean shit if the story is fine and it gives you emotions? Also the thing with Blackfire is kinda forced and weird. They could make it better, but it still was important for the story.
Yeah, this genre isn't for everyone, but now I understand, that maybe I like simple stories about ordinary people. Or... almost ordinary. I loved Mary Jane limited series, for example. But it's okay if you don't like it, however, what's the point to hate it just because the main character isn't pretty or an exemplar? I mean, she has her problems, she understands them and even solve some of them through the book... And her life is far from over, so she can lose weight doing super hero stuff and do something good with her powers. It seems she found her place in the life and what's wrong with this? That she isn't already look like the other superheroines? Why must she? She was an ordinary girl for so long... Just give this girl some time and she'll grow up.
The art is arguable too. I wouldn't like the Punisher or The Walking Dead story with this kind of art, but it's just so cool in this context... Everything's so colorful and cute. And Mandy is so dark and black. That's a good contrast. And it's so fucking fitting with the story... I dunno, I saw some really bad and eye-bleeding art. But this art is far from that and it's not even in the wrong book, so I really don't have any problems with this.
So, it's far from masterpiece, but it's definitely not the thing all the people want it to be. I would recommend you at least give it a try and finally form your opinion at the end. I really though it would be a stupid BLA BLA BLA I'M BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT AND I'M BETTER THAN MY STUPID OLD MOTHER book, but surprisingly it wasn't. I was ready to hate it, but I didn't.
I think I wouldn't buy a physical copy of this, but it's really nice to read it digital. This art is really not for the printed books, I believe. As well as the story. It's a nice one-time reading, which I really don't regret. I wasn't bored even for a moment and there weren't that many stupid moments. But they were. And the diversity is all over here, but it's not disturbing. I'm fine with the diversity when it isn't pushed in your face (which is already pretty common in comics and movies).
It's a unique comic and I really prefer this to a 10000th battle of Spider-Man vs Green Goblin or something like that. more

Sei que não sou o publico alvo, dito isso:
Achei medíocre, mas não me ofende de maneira nenhuma(como sei lá, Três Coringas). O hate por ela existir é ridículo.

The amount of rage this has produced in grown men (many of whom have an anime character as a profile picture) is hilarious to me. It's a YA comic that wasn't written for superhero fans. The title alone should give that away.

(Spoilers.)
I want to start by saying I’m not into superheroes much, and I’m a young adult. This book was targeted towards people like me. But this is awful. I bought it because it had an interesting premise, boy was I wrong. The main character is Mandy, and she is incredibly unlikable.
From the beginning she starts off complaining about how she always in her mother’s shadow. And you know she has right to complain, but in all her life she has does nothing to deal with her problems. So as the story progresses she has a friend named Lincoln. He’s a shallow character, the friendship he has with Mandy is he doesn’t care that Mandy’s mom is a superhero. There’s not much all else on why they are friends.
So, to sum the story quickly. Mandy is a “not like the other girls!” Type of girl. So the entire time she’s hostile to everyone, even her own mom who tries really hard to be a good mom to Mandy. She likes a popular girl, but she’s never had any relationship with her at all. So their love story takes up most of the book. Somehow Mandy’s crush who is named Claire starts to like Mandy after only a few days of talking. Later on Claire makes Mandy mad when she takes a picture with the famous superhero team and uploads it to social media. This causes Mandy to go mad. Then her evil aunt shows up to capture her and her mother, because apparently Mandy threatens her throne? So evil aunt is going to kill Mandy because she doesn’t want her to become next in line. Anyways Mandy’s mom who has been a superhero for many years fights evil aunt and loses. Then out of nowhere Mandy gets her powers, and SOMEHOW MANAGES TO DESTROY EVIL AUNT. Evil aunt was established to be a great conqueror who was insanely powerful. And this is proved when she beats Mandy’s mom. After Mandy gets her powers everything magically fixes. Her problem with being under her mom’s shadow? Fixed. Her relationship with her crush, Claire? Fixed. Everything gets conveniently fixed.
In conclusion, this book sucks. Please do not buy. more

The only merit this comic has is the art -- cuz the comic is just Mariko Tamaki appearing to deal with her own mommy issues thru her self-insert character.

this comic does not worth your money and time. read some marvel comisc or mangas instand of this crap right here. this comic does not diserve a 1. the only thing i like is starfire hair exept that, they are sexualizing starfire so much and the plot is making so less sense. i know starfire wears like short shirts and skirts a lot but you can't compair that with the shirts or pieces of fabric which can't even be called shirt. like seriosly!

Feeding this comic to the minds of our young is incomprehensible and possibly harmful.
Young people deserve better than this. We need to aspire to be good and just. The characters in this comic are negative and uninspiring.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Wow, just wow. This book bad, much like the main character there are no redeeming qualities for this book. If other reviewers give this book more than the lowest rating they have zero credibility. The fact that Tamaki is writing Detective Comics should scare the hell out of any Batman fan. DC books are going to get FAR worse before they get better.

I am the target audience and I hate this book. People who say it's for YA causals in defence of this garbage are both saying that other people's opinions dont matter if they're not the target audience, despite good entertainment being great for outsiders as well and that the target demographic should be ok with this trash.
Which explains to me why they like this book. They relate to the protagonist. And that's the main problem with this book. Promoting social freedom by providing people with designated boxes.

Literally sub par in every sense, the art style is lacking, there’s profanity littered throughout, lazy writing, there is no clear audience and it seems more like the writer had a vendetta against Starfire than wanted to make a relatable character with an interesting story. Complete failure and i couldn’t recommend this to be even put in gitmo’s prison library.

Remember if you have a diferent opinion you are racist, homophobe, pedo..whatever.If something is pure garbage, it is pure garbage, that´s it. I dont care if it´s for kids, for women or dogs all I care it is the quality of the work.
Like Mike Tyson said: Social media made you all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it
