Dick Grayson may want to consider a new career in cyber-security, because the major tech upgrades coming to Blüdhaven mean deadly danger for everyone in the city. Nightwing battles the mysterious tech mogul Willem Cloke, who it turns out is just a front man for the real threat-the organization known only as the Dark Web! Time to change those passwords, Blüdhaven!
VerdictThis issue was great, and really left me wanting more. Isn't that what comics are all about? The new creative have really found their voices, and the audience is receiving some sweet, sweet music. Read Full Review
'Nightwing' #47 is exactly what you want in a monthly comic. An action-packed, driven narrative with great character moments illustrated energetically and visually appealing. Read Full Review
Benjamin Percy is one of my favourite current comic book writers. He strings his reader's along for a wild ride. He'll sprinkle little clues throughout the comic and expect you to keep up with them. He doesn't write the comic to ease the reader's experience, he writes it as if you were Dick Grayson, which is a breath of fresh air in this day and age. Read Full Review
NIGHTWING #47 is full of surprises, thanks to writer Ben Percy. And the artwork by Chris Mooneyham is stunning. The visuals bring the virtual nightmare to life. Read Full Review
Whoever put this creative team together deserves a raise. They are working at a high level and this book is only getting better. I look forward to seeing what happens next. It's a great feeling. Read Full Review
All in all, Bleeding Edge was a solid arc. With some of the iconic characters (like Grayson), you have to ease yourself in a bit. He's not the same kid (Burt Ward) that was the butt of every Batman joke ever made. He's a complex character, and if you do too much too fast, the internet will rage (see:Titans trailer). The thing that excites me the most about this series is the fact that they kept calling the Bld a beta test. They are prepping for more. The next step seems to take us back to Bat home, and I can't wait to see how that will play out! Read Full Review
Nightwing #47 is at once familiar in its fabric and forward-thinking in its attempt to push technology into Nightwing's world, with a combination of gritty live action and glossy splash panels. Its an ambitious mix that can be thrilling while it lasts, and yet it fails to linger for long afterward, leaving you wondering what its point is beyond validating the insularity of techno-nerd fandom. Nightwing #47 would have been a far more compelling comic if it had addressed the fantasy of the Ludite Fallacy that so many have these days at its center. Read Full Review
I think this arc could've been a bit better when a bit more thought put into it. I don't like how Willem just shows up and is tossed like a pawn when we were already shown the villain that clearly has big plans for Nightwing. The arc overall feels more like a filler that current fans will still find some enjoyment but it's nothing that can grab new readers. Hopefully, the next arc picks things up and we see a return of the Dark Web because I do believe there's a great story to be told with this villain. Read Full Review
Like the entire arc as a whole, this finale issue of Nightwing has its ups and downs. Some bits are intense and an engaging, while others fall totally flat. Read Full Review
There's a lot of interesting ideas in this run, but I'm not sure they add up to a good Nightwing run. Read Full Review
Nightwing has given us a new kind of story with the terminals, and though the story will be changing Bludhaven, only the end of the story can tell just how far the writers will go. Read Full Review
Nightwing #47 won't blow anyone away. There are a lot of good ideas presented in this issue. That along with Benjamin Percy's writing of Nightwing and Batgirl's dynamic helped elevate story that was presented. Unfortunately the lack of development for the new characters introduced in this story arc made it tough get fully invested in the end result of what happened. Read Full Review
I'd say this is hardly a finale, but it's hardly a story at all. There is nothing in this run so far that even reminds me of Nightwing and if this is the story that got Ben Percy the gig, I may start looking for a new favorite character. Actually, I'll just look for a story that has a real beginning and end because I didn't see that here. Read Full Review
This issue's best attributes are more matters of base competence than actual successful storytelling. From the line-work to the dialogue, virtually everything here feels stilted. Read Full Review
If you haven't been following this arc, then don't bother looking into it. There's nothing worthwhile here, and you don't even get a completely story. Multiple plots fizzle out without any sort of conclusion, and you can't even look back on a portion of the story to say, "Well this is a nice moment." It's just nonsense. Read Full Review
Nightwing #47 is a bad mixture of too-serious storytelling and plot points and characters so ridiculous as to border on self-satire. The artwork is great, and it almost pains me that Mooneyham, Janson, and Filardi are being paired with a script this nonsensical. Unfortunately, this one doesnt earn a recommendation. Id suggest giving it a pass. Read Full Review
Kinda reminds me of the much-hyped Identity Crisis series from some years back. All those masks, peeled away in a nano-second. But we'll have to wait until next issue to see what happens, because despite DCs claim, this was no finale. Read Full Review
An action-packed issue filled with tech-related puns, plot inconsistencies, and technology that pushes the boundary of belief. It's ostensibly the finale to the Bleeding Edge story arc but doesn't conclude it in a satisfying way. Read Full Review
Rushed storyline this arc should have been a prelude.
Really rushed, which is a shame, considering that it was great so far. But it seems it's only the beginning, so hopefully it'll improve in the future.
Rushed storyline that is more of a setup than a full arc. Still better written than Percy's Green Arrow, though.
Didn't accomplish much or act as any kind of finale. Still enjoyed it.
I think that the reason this issue got the rating it got from me is mostly due to the fact that every issue of Nightwing that has recently come out makes me closer and closer to canceling my subscription. This certainly wasn't the worst issue of the series but I can't help but scream out loud due to the fact that I was so relieved the story arc was ended until I realized that although it says "Finale" under the name of the story arc, nothing ends at all. I don't care about a single one of the characters, even the main characters at this point. The art was surprisingly the best part of the issue, which is saying a lot because I wasn't a huge fan of the art. I guess the end was pretty good, and it maybe interests me a little bit, but this sermore
“A B Horror Movie Stuffed with All the Fellow Kids Material”
Score: 3.0/10
Pros:
-Nothing. This issue will make you cringe, be confused and cry once you realized you bought this.
Cons:
-The art sucked this issue. It used to have a lot of details, but now most of it look like rough sketches. It doesn’t have the amount of care it had before.
-Percy, we get it you’re old, but young adults don’t talk like a tech marketer. The only ones who talk like that are those bullied kids bragging how much RAM their PC has.
-Nothing gets resolved. Nothing gets answered. Cloke’s character development is given, not earned.
You can skip this issue. You can skip this whole arc. Percy's more
Oh my god why is this story arc going to continue, how is this writer still getting work?
