Forces Of Geek - Lenny Schwartz Aug 6, 2021

The story by Geoff Johns gets very intense. Everything about it works. The art by Gary Frank is some of the best of his career. Frank only seems to be getting better and this is pretty excellent. Read Full Review

    BGCP - Michael Lennox Aug 4, 2021

This issue is used as a slow burn plot device to get all the chess pieces in the right places for the finale in four weeks, but that is not a criticism. Many issues leave hanging plots but Johns and the team have created a simple but very effective universe here. The small touches like finally allowing Tariq to find a new book are perfect, but a small evil bit of me wants him to lose the book next issue to add a bit of schadenfreude for the readers. The Comicbook Dispatch - ozwoods Aug 4, 2021

Last issue had Geiger and company running into mutant marauders, now Geiger #5 has them finally reach their destination. In this issue, things calm down for the kids while Geiger and his mutant pet Barney get the cold treatment. The comic explains what the group's package actually is and what it would mean for anyone who owns it. The facility itself isn't anything too special, serving more like a pit stop for the kids. However, things get tense again when the kids discover some darker things about the people there, and Geiger and Barney come to the rescue just as the comic teases a new enemy in the next issue. You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff Aug 4, 2021

Johns has been working in comics for long enough to know to trust a pair of great artists. Hand Frank and Anderson a decent idea, and they can really run with it. The problem is that 90% of the issue is tied up in hackneyed post-apocalyptic narrative that really doesnt need to be there. Give the artist a bit more room to run with the basic iconography of the action, and Geiger could be AMAZING...a glowing warrior of the wastes patrolling the end of humanity with his vicious two-headed wolf? That would be very, very cool. Its too bad that Johns is trying to lay in so much else around a simple, enjoyably iconic idea.  Read Full Review
