The God of Whispers has spread an omnipresent paranoia to every corner of the kingdom of Zhal; his spies hide in every hall spreading mistrust and fear. Adam Osidis, a dying knight from a disgraced house, must choose between joining a hopeless band of magic users in their desperate bid to free their world of the evil God, or accepting his promise to give Adam everything his heart desires.
Writer RICK REMENDER reteams with collaborators JEROME OPEÑA (Uncanny X-Force, Fear Agent) and MATT HOLLINGSWORTH (TOKYO GHOST, WYTCHES) to take you on a hard road through the strange fantasy world of Zhal. All men have surrendered their freedom more
Seven to Eternity #1 is divine. It's an incredible debut issue that will suck you in, chew you up, and spit you out (and you'll love every second of it). Add this one to your pull list, you won't want to miss a single issue. Hell, if I missed a single panel of this comic I'd be kicking myself. It's too damn good to ignore. Read Full Review
Already adding Seven To Eternity to my pull list. Remender is incredible and teaming him back up with Opea is perfect for this book. Really stands out among the crowded shelves. A must read. Read Full Review
Seven to Eternity is a return to form for Remender and Opena and makes me very happy to have stuck with them after their less than stellar end at Marvel.. Read Full Review
Seven to Eternity has started off on the right foot and so far it's setting itself up to be another feather in Remender's overly feather filled cap.Opea, Hollingsworth and Wooten, together, craft pages that only come around on rare occasions these days and even if you're not into this genre of comics (epic fantasy action), you'll get more than your money's worth just staring, drooling and getting lost in these panels and character designs. Look, this book is shaping up to be something special–even with a resume like Remender has, and the books he and the rest of this crew have done. If you're looking for something new to check out,Seven to Eternity should be on your list. Also, any of the books mentioned before. Seriously. In Remender we trust. Read Full Review
Seven to Eternity is such a huge hit for Image Comics, its not even funny. Remender and Opena create something extremely memorable here, and its only the first issue. If you are looking for a comic that embodies science fiction and all its possibilities, then give Seven to Eternity a try. Read Full Review
Such is the particular power of comic books " whether superhero stories, or science-fiction, or fantasy, or the strange fusion of all three here in Seven to Eternity " that they offer not so much an escape from the troubles of our real world, but the tools to armor ourselves in idealism and to forge from fiction heroism here in reality. In this respect, Remender's works " no less than Morison or Moore's " are among the best; and even among his catalog Seven to Eternity promises to stand out as something special. Read Full Review
Look, I know that this is a really strong week for comics, and there's a lot to check out. I mean, that's pretty true of every week these days, thanks to the variety offered by most publishers. But I implore you: giveSeven to Eternitya shot. Sure, it's not perfect, but I find it hard not to recommend this issue on the basis of its visuals alone. I really liked this as a debut issue, and have no doubts that this is a series that will go anywhere but up in terms of quality. After reading this issue multiple times, I'm just left really excited for more. Read Full Review
What is clear inSeven to Eternity is that this is a truly collaborative affair, and everyone involved is pulling in some of the best work of their careers. It's a dense, intriguing high fantasy epic that I genuinely can't wait to read more of, and you should definitely be checking this out. Pick it up at your LCS or digitally now. Read Full Review
But Rick Remender isn’t a writer who has necessarily been interested in making things easy for readers, instead maintaining his artistic integrity no matter what the sales figures say. Remender has a unique and electric voice, and Seven to Eternity might hit a little close to home in terms of the writer’s refusal to co-opt his own beliefs at the altar of consumerism. That sort of resolute mentality might also be why Remender has consistently worked with some of the most talented artists in the business, with Jerome Opena making a strong case as to why he might just be at the top of that particularly lofty heap. There might be some who might not get Seven to Eternity, or who might be turned off at the lack of a straight-and-steady throughline to get them through the story. But I’m just glad that Rick Remender isn’t going to listen to them. Read Full Review
Overall, Seven to Eternity has started off well. The first issue is a bit rushed, but I feel that the upcoming issues will most likely have better pacing and will also fix a few of the problems that this one has. Im excited to see whats in store. I recommend this to anyone who loves a good fantasy-science fiction combo. Read Full Review
Seven to Eternity #1 is the kind of book Image Comics was made for. It's unapologetically deep, gorgeously illustrated, and as inviting as it is complex. The brisk pacing and lack of clear cut direction can mar initial comprehension, but the excellent early focus on family, coupled with the ridiculous amount of beautiful imagery, carries it on through. Regardless of your preferred genre flavor, this debut is well worth your money. Read Full Review
If you like a little fantasy with your Westerns, peopled by characters that feel devastatingly human and surrounded by designs akin to Moebius, this is a comic you need to read. A great first issue to a more than promising new series. Read Full Review
Fans of fantasy world building (think Stephen King's Dark Tower series) should find much to like here. This could definitely go places, and Remender and company have rarely failed to deliver (Rage of Ultron for Marvel being the only weak chain I can think of). With this book, Image continues to be the best publisher of mainstream comics in the business today. Give this book a chance. Read Full Review
Seven To Eternity #1 was worth the wait for anyone who had been awaiting this story as much as I have. A very strong start and not hard to follow if you were on the fence about your investment in the plot. They laid out the foundation for where this story is going, opened the doors to this world and the rules to it existence, and gave enough about our main character Adam to want to follow him on this journey that challenges everything he has fought for up to this point. Through the eyes of our outcast protagonist as he, truly the underdog, struggles both within himself and his own feelings and with the traditions and honor-bound sheer will of his father and his memory of his family, we come face to face with our ultimate fear: will we falter when the time comes to make a stand. I am unsure if Adam will be steadfast, capitulate, or somehow blaze his own path, but I am certain that I am going to want to read on and find out. Read Full Review
'Seven to Eternity' #1 introduces us to another wild world from the mind of Rick Remender. It's brought to vivid life by Jerome Opena and Matt Hollingsworth. This story of sacrifice, honor, and revenge set in a fantastical and magical realm plays to the creators strengths, albeit a little rushed. Remender is chomping at the bit to tell this tale and it's worth every penny just to stare awestruck at each and every panel. This is highly recommended. Read Full Review
For fans of D&D, Heavy Metal, Dragons, Lord of the Rings, and just a touch of Wheel of Time, this could be the next big series to keep an eye on. Read Full Review
Overall, Remender and Opena have delivered a beautiful book that is multi-layered and filled with storytelling. I'm pleased to say it is worth your time and money because so much has been poured into it. It certainly has a lot more places to go however, yes in terms of story, but mostly in changing up the conventions of its genre. I would love to see the female characters get a bigger role, the examples in this issue have not been given a lot to do or have simply been a way to motivate the main character. I'm also looking forward to how Remender deals with his villain, but for a first issue "Seven to Eternity" shows so much promise and potential, I advise you get on now. Read Full Review
There isn't a lot going on in the issue, 3 basic scenes and a reveal at the end, that's really it. There's enough there for me visually and in the story and character setup to get me coming back for future issues. Katie, who didn't get much time in this first issue is intriguing enough for me to actually care about as a character, and the same for Adam. But really, the main thing I want to know is "What does the Mud King have to offer?" It's enough to get me to come back! Read Full Review
I'm not ready to write the comic off, I'll check out the second, but high hopes and expectations have definitely been dashed. Read Full Review
There's hope in the book's closing pages for more clarity about the series' trajectory " which will hopefully include more of Katie as hinted by her presence on the cover " but overall this first issue is curious rather than compelling. Seven to Eternity embodies a problem that plagues many new series these days: instead of leading us into the real story right off, we're shown a teaser for that story. This may end up being a dazzling saga of epic weight and mastery, but spending an issue getting to the start is a little tedious. Read Full Review
This was an amazing first issue
This is such an incredible opening issue. Definitely throws a lot at you all at once, but Remender assumes his readers are smart enough to be able to put things together eventually based on the context without having to bog his writing down with exposition explaining what everything means, which I actually really like. And I cannot say enough good things about the art. Jerome Opena is one of my favourite artists, and this is quite easily his best work. What a phenomenal debut issue.
Has the potential to be Remender's Saga. His magnum opus if he can avoid familiar ground.
Mind-blowing artwork and an intriguing story. And what a beautiful cover! Looking forward to reading more.
Heck yeah
Awesome. Honestly though, wish it was rated Mature, but I understand the choice for a wider audience I guess.
A very interesting start to what seems will be a very metaphysical and abstract comic. I love that it is presented as fantasy, but the main villain's power is neither tangible or physical. I feel that this will be Image's next big comic and people should get on it as soon as they can.
As good as a 1st issue can get!!
The art is fantastic and by the end of this book I was thrilled to see what happens next.
Rick drew me in on the very first page, which is all text. Shortly thereafter, I noticed the great art and great character/creature design. The world building is off to a good start and as well is the characterization and the dynamic between the characters. This issue also does a good job of balancing well-executed action with more calm story and character development. One of the only things that held this issue back, in my mind, was the pacing seemed a bit rushed a various points and this also contributed to a bit of confusion for me (especially as to some transitions from one scene to the next). However, everything considered, this is a great issue and I am extremely excited for the rest of the series.
Good start!
Great art but the story is not the most inviting or innovative.
I love the art, but the story is vague and difficult to grasp. I'm sure more will be revealed as this world expands, but I needed more set up because I don't understand the setup at all.
