Seven to Eternity has started off on the right foot and so far it's setting itself up to be another feather in Remender's overly feather filled cap.Opea, Hollingsworth and Wooten, together, craft pages that only come around on rare occasions these days and even if you're not into this genre of comics (epic fantasy action), you'll get more than your money's worth just staring, drooling and getting lost in these panels and character designs. Look, I know that this is a really strong week for comics, and there's a lot to check out. I mean, that's pretty true of every week these days, thanks to the variety offered by most publishers. But I implore you: giveSeven to Eternitya shot. Sure, it's not perfect, but I find it hard not to recommend this issue on the basis of its visuals alone. I really liked this as a debut issue, and have no doubts that this is a series that will go anywhere but up in terms of quality. But Rick Remender isn’t a writer who has necessarily been interested in making things easy for readers, instead maintaining his artistic integrity no matter what the sales figures say. Remender has a unique and electric voice, and Seven to Eternity might hit a little close to home in terms of the writer’s refusal to co-opt his own beliefs at the altar of consumerism. That sort of resolute mentality might also be why Remender has consistently worked with some of the most talented artists in the business, with Jerome Opena making a strong case as to why he might just be at the top of that particularly lofty heap. There might be some who might not get Seven to Eternity, or who might be turned off at the lack of a straight-and-steady throughline to get them through the story. The first issue is a bit rushed, but I feel that the upcoming issues will most likely have better pacing and will also fix a few of the problems that this one has. Im excited to see whats in store. Seven to Eternity #1 is the kind of book Image Comics was made for. It's unapologetically deep, gorgeously illustrated, and as inviting as it is complex. The brisk pacing and lack of clear cut direction can mar initial comprehension, but the excellent early focus on family, coupled with the ridiculous amount of beautiful imagery, carries it on through. Fans of fantasy world building (think Stephen King's Dark Tower series) should find much to like here. This could definitely go places, and Remender and company have rarely failed to deliver (Rage of Ultron for Marvel being the only weak chain I can think of). Seven To Eternity #1 was worth the wait for anyone who had been awaiting this story as much as I have. A very strong start and not hard to follow if you were on the fence about your investment in the plot. They laid out the foundation for where this story is going, opened the doors to this world and the rules to it existence, and gave enough about our main character Adam to want to follow him on this journey that challenges everything he has fought for up to this point. 'Seven to Eternity' #1 introduces us to another wild world from the mind of Rick Remender. It's brought to vivid life by Jerome Opena and Matt Hollingsworth. This story of sacrifice, honor, and revenge set in a fantastical and magical realm plays to the creators strengths, albeit a little rushed. Overall, Remender and Opena have delivered a beautiful book that is multi-layered and filled with storytelling. I'm pleased to say it is worth your time and money because so much has been poured into it. It certainly has a lot more places to go however, yes in terms of story, but mostly in changing up the conventions of its genre. I would love to see the female characters get a bigger role, the examples in this issue have not been given a lot to do or have simply been a way to motivate the main character. I'm also looking forward to how Remender deals with his villain, but for a first issue "Seven to Eternity" shows so much promise and potential, I advise you get on now. Read Full Review

There isn't a lot going on in the issue, 3 basic scenes and a reveal at the end, that's really it. There's enough there for me visually and in the story and character setup to get me coming back for future issues. Katie, who didn't get much time in this first issue is intriguing enough for me to actually care about as a character, and the same for Adam. But really, the main thing I want to know is "What does the Mud King have to offer?" It's enough to get me to come back! Read Full Review

There's hope in the book's closing pages for more clarity about the series' trajectory " which will hopefully include more of Katie as hinted by her presence on the cover " but overall this first issue is curious rather than compelling. Seven to Eternity embodies a problem that plagues many new series these days: instead of leading us into the real story right off, we're shown a teaser for that story. This is such an incredible opening issue. Definitely throws a lot at you all at once, but Remender assumes his readers are smart enough to be able to put things together eventually based on the context without having to bog his writing down with exposition explaining what everything means, which I actually really like. And I cannot say enough good things about the art. Jerome Opena is one of my favourite artists, and this is quite easily his best work. What a phenomenal debut issue.

Has the potential to be Remender's Saga. His magnum opus if he can avoid familiar ground.

Mind-blowing artwork and an intriguing story. And what a beautiful cover! Looking forward to reading more.

Awesome. Honestly though, wish it was rated Mature, but I understand the choice for a wider audience I guess.

A very interesting start to what seems will be a very metaphysical and abstract comic. I love that it is presented as fantasy, but the main villain's power is neither tangible or physical. I feel that this will be Image's next big comic and people should get on it as soon as they can.

The art is fantastic and by the end of this book I was thrilled to see what happens next.

Rick drew me in on the very first page, which is all text. Shortly thereafter, I noticed the great art and great character/creature design. The world building is off to a good start and as well is the characterization and the dynamic between the characters. This issue also does a good job of balancing well-executed action with more calm story and character development. One of the only things that held this issue back, in my mind, was the pacing seemed a bit rushed a various points and this also contributed to a bit of confusion for me (especially as to some transitions from one scene to the next). However, everything considered, this is a great issue and I am extremely excited for the rest of the series.

Great art but the story is not the most inviting or innovative.

I love the art, but the story is vague and difficult to grasp. I'm sure more will be revealed as this world expands, but I needed more set up because I don't understand the setup at all.
