False advertising on the cover aside, this issue was packed with action and laughs. More guest appearances are in this one and they're just as fun as previous ones, with the added pressure that more fellow heroes are closing in on Hawkeye's little secret. I can see some people having a problem with how many scenes we jump between in this issue alone, but I think it's used to show how bad Clint can let things get before he asks for help. He'll use a friend's trust to manipulate them, but not to bail him out. We'll see how this all comes crashing down around him.

Clint is so far in over his head but damn he does it in style.

The dialogue in the last arc was a little shaky so I was happy to see a fun exchange between Barry and Snart to start the issue out. There's also the return of Pied Piper, and a pretty cool cliffhanger that leaves me excited for more.

The dumb stuff in this issue is the choice to imprison Flash and Cold in Arkham Asylum, and not much reason is given for this. Seems like the only purpose it serves is allowing Cold to make an easy escape.

I am enjoying the Speed Force problems Barry is having, his power has fluctuated between weaker-than-normal and "Super-Saiyan" levels and I wanna see where this is going.

The art is solid as usual, and I'm looking forward to Paradox and whatever danger He/She may pose to Barry. more

Hawkeye is awesome. This issue really makes Clint seem like a badass. I’m glad Rosenberg has found a way to make Clint both very capable and cool while also being the lovable idiot from Fractions run. This issue really frames the first 2 differently and I actually went back to check a couple scenes out again.

Otto Schmidt is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists, his work has so much character and charm.

I really hope this book gets an extended run more

Crazy start to the new story arc. The art by Sandoval is always great. This issue gives us a cool showdown and a shocking final page. Things ain’t lookin good at all in Central City. Can’t wait to see what happened for things to get to this point!

Perfect. An unforgettable experience of a comic book. A tribute to Stan Lee. This is artistry at the highest level. These guys have such a deep understanding of the Silver Surfer and I don’t know how they did it but they made the best Silver Surfer comic I have EVER read and probably one of my favorite books ever. This is a final showdown between light and dark that no comic book fan should miss. more

Exciting stuff. Barry and Hunter face an unstoppable threat, and something’s gotta give. Unexpectedly emotional turn at the end that was a really nice surprise. So much is going on with all of the Flash family and you can tell Williamson is a hardcore fan of previous Flash runs. Even as one threat ends it just leads right into another one. Looks like Barry isn’t gonna have time to stop for a breather. Williamson is an absolute machine on The Flash more

The final battle of Thor for the fate of everything is living up to expectations. The scale of power being displayed in this is laughably awesome. But it’s not all spectacle. Jason Aaron is making sure to close off his Thor run with some heavy emotional moments. I struggle to find anything to complain about with this issue. Everyone is at the top of their game, and I’ll be rereading this run for years to come. more

Amazing introduction to Kitty Pryde’s new status quo. She has a very unique problem that really makes you feel for her. The way she chooses to work through that problem is both highly entertaining and a great example of why Kitty Pryde is an all-time great X-Man. Supporting cast is also top notch, definitely the team I’m most excited about in Dawn of X. Text pages that Hickman has been using are employed here to hilarious effect. Gerry Duggan is just good at writing humor. I hope they show more Bishop in the next issue, because he doesn’t get much here, but Marauders has got me hooked already. more

But understanding this all requires you to read all other tie-ins too. So it's not a self-contained story that you can read with AC only.

The X-Men are back on top of the comic book world and it feels so good.

This is a great start to the regular ongoing after the HEAVY events of HoX and PoX. The tone is lighter and it feels FUN. Hickman uses this first issue to bring us up to speed with the field leader of all leaders: Cyclops. Scott Summers is back in the spotlight, and the hope and confidence he brings with him is refreshing. We get a sense of his new day-to-day life and how much this entire undertaking means to him. It really helps you connect with him, which is great for those that have had a hard time connecting with his character over the past few years, myself included.

Everyone else is great too. His family is entertaining and it just feels good to see them all together under one roof. Every character stands out in their own way. Magneto's new status quo as an idol to the growing mutant population is super cool. It feels like Hickman has been wanting to write these characters his whole life, and it shows through his script how much he loves these troublemaking mutants. He also makes sure to plant seeds for future obstacles the X-Men will inevitably have to face. The human enemies here are just as determined to destroy the mutant race as the X-Men are determined to thrive.

I've heard complaints about the art before I read this, and while it doesn't quite measure up to the fantastic pages of HoX and PoX, it certainly isn't bad. I would eventually like to see a first-rate artist on here to match the first-rate writing, however.

A must buy if you're not scared of the next step in evolution!

X-Men 1 is absolutely flawless. Hickman perfectly blends the character writing from his Fantastic Four run and the mind blowing plot of his Avengers run, and what you get is quite possibles the beginning of Jonathan Hickman’s greatest comic yet. Hickman writes every character perfectly, especially Scott. The conversations between Scott and Lorna and between Scott and Corsair were just terrific, and I got a good laugh out of Logan and Vulcan’s argument. Hickman hints at further things to come with the aftermath of the X-Men’s assault on the Master Mold. Yu’s art is beautiful and right now, X-Men is not just the best Marvel Comic, but the best comic. Period. more

Many golden age stories didn't age very well. Readers' expectations have evolved and changed - we now expect more character development for our heroes, narrative complexity and deeper themes than just punching irreeemably bad guys to save the day. Superman Smashes the Klan proves a good story and political commentary are timeless, and is as relevant as when it was aired on the radio in the 40's. Especially now, in the age of rise of nationalism and xenophobia all around the world.

The story is pretty simple - a Chinese family moves to Metropolis, and faces racism from the local charter of KKK. What makes it all work so well, are character interactions, as well as presentation of different views on certain issues, most notably assimilation, xenophobia, and what it means to call a place your home. It's surprisingly deep, and I feel like Yang did fantastic job explaining them to us, readers. Or, should I say, giving us room to interpret the plot ourselves, without being preachy and plain annoying, like Mariko Tamaki, who can't handle a tough subject even if her life depended on it, as shown in Supergirl: Being Super, and Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass.

It's a great, character driven, fun comic I could recommend to anybody - kid, adult, doesn't matter. The main characters are instantly likeable and believable, while villains aren't just one dimensional bad guys - they have their twisted views and to a degree you can understand what they think, while of cours not agreeing with their racist nonsense.

The art is great - it's colorful, expressive, and, just to put it simple, pretty. I dig it.

Overall an outstanding comic anyone can enjoy. I love it, and can't wait for #2. more

Wally flexes his stuff in this issue and it’s fun watching him have fun again, even if only for a brief moment. He takes on pretty much everything thrown his way with confidence. His objective is clearer and the final page really gives me hope that this mini-series is planning on changing Wally for the better once again.

Wally West forever!!!

I have never been so excited for a team book. Hickman fully introduces the way the Krakoan government is going to work and teases relationships between the leaders of this new nation. It’s all VERY exciting. Mister Sinister steals every page he’s in. And the art is gorgeous, especially towards the end of this issue.

I have no intention of missing a single moment of Hickman’s X-Men book, and I want to tell all of my friends how cool comic books are. So I guess these mini-series’ have been a complete success, more

Had to write a review because the critic reviews are too low on this in my opinion.

Heroes In Crisis succeeded in humanizing Wally West and showing how massive emotional trauma can affect someone with massive power. And how that might not turn out so good to those closest to him, literally. Unfortunately, due to the lack of focus on Wally West post DC Rebirth, fans weren’t ready to see him so flawed and vulnerable. Instead, they expected Wally to still be squeaky-clean, and perfectly okay with everything that has happened to his life. This opened up cool new storytelling possibilities for him, and this comic is a good start.

This series is supposed to (at least partially) redeem Wally West and have him come to terms with what he’s done. He’s in a really dark place and I love this mature storytelling. Wally is in prison, and his prison situation isn’t very good, considering he’s one of the worlds most famous heroes.

This issue succeeds in bringing us up to speed on Wally’s situation and where his mind’s at right now. Then it sets Wally off on a new adventure that seems to have MAJOR implications to the Multiverse. One that he’s probably not up for.

Cliffhanger was awesome, love to see Wally getting some SOLO comic book love!! more

I’m really going to miss Jason Aaron writing Thor. It’s been a crazy ride and this is a beautiful beginning of the end. If you’ve followed his run from the beginning, you should get more out of this issue than anyone else. King Thor will not go silently into the night

It’s unbelievable how good this book has been. It feels so important to the Marvel universe at large and it feels like a whole lot is riding on what Silver Surfer will do next. Donny Cates really succeeds in the characterization of Silver Surfer. He’s capable of unbelievable power and just plain cool, and at the same he’s pretty vulnerable right now, both physically and emotionally.

The art on this series has been ridiculous, in a good way. It’s really been a treat seeing what crazy ideas Tradd Moore has in store on each page, and the ball keeps rolling here. It takes me forever to finish each issue because I’m busy staring at each panel trying to take in every detail. Award-worthy stuff

This issue leaves us pumped for the finale, with Norrin Radd finding new resolve in his mission, and a new power to try and even the odds with a seemingly unbeatable opponent. Tell all your friends.

This beautiful comic has high stakes and motivations you can understand, but on a universal scale, and I think I just moved Silver Surfer up a little higher on my top 10 favorite heroes. Must read! more

Silver Surfer Black has been one of the most trippy and epic comics I’ve read in a while, and the craziness continues with this issue.

If Norrin Radd has never been one of your go-to characters, this series really makes a case for why he’s one of the all-time classic cosmic characters in Marvel. His adventures are really just on another level. This chapter continues the story of his struggle with a certain powerful force of nature, while also reminding us of the terror he endured at the hands of the Eater of Worlds. Tradd Moore’s artwork is OTHERWORLDLY and truly is a perfect fit for depicting the major cosmic players of the Marvel Universe, which this book seems determined to introduce a new one every issue.

The colors are really what complete this book and boy oh boy are they a feast for the eyes. Every page it seems they’ve challenged themselves to show the variety of shapes and textures of space. My favorite scene in this issue was the depiction of Norrin Radd traveling to the core of a very familiar planet. It’s a wild ride and even while weakened, it seems the Silver Surfer’s power is on full display here.

This book is completely worth your time. Your eyes will thank you. more

The bad reviews on here still don’t seem to understand the difference between “plot-driven” and “character-driven.” This issue was all character, and showed more of what Wally and Harley were going through, as well as give a barbarian hunter named Gnaark a spotlight. It’s beautiful, thanks to the revealing dialogue and the amazing art that still hasn’t let up.

Heroes In Crisis is living up to its idea: to show that these heroes/villains have all undergone psychological trauma, and they all need some sort of emotional support. It’s not depressing just to be depressing. If you care more about mindless explosions and a typical “point A to Point B” story, this isn’t for you. But if you like the idea of humanizing these characters, then this issue is more of that. more

This issue was so good, Tom King writes a story that’s has a lot of “point of view” and he humanizes characters.
Gerads does a great work, he’s one of the best artist right now.
