Marauders #1 is off to a killer start, and has absolutely everything I want in an X-Men book. Read Full Review
Overall this book is the best entry of ‘Dawn of X’ yet. I know we are only two series in so far but Marauders has set the bar extremely high. If you pick up only one book from ‘Dawn of X’ this is the one to get. Read Full Review
Books like this are why people need to read comics, and is a wonderful addition to the X-line. Go get this book yesterday. Read Full Review
By the end of the issue, you'll be sure of two things. 1. Duggan, Lolli, Blee, Petit and Muller, all bring a new dawn to the universe of X-men in every sense of the word, and 2. This book belongs to Kate Pryde through and through. Read Full Review
Metteo Lolli's art is the perfect complement to the style and tone of this issue. Read Full Review
Despite the small imperfections, Marauders #1 is a rock-solid beginning to a much larger story thats sure to fill out the broader strokes of the Dawn of X initiative. Its full of adventure, its full of suave, and its full of possibilities. Read Full Review
At the heart of this story is comedy, adventure, and a little bit of mystery. It is a welcome reprieve from the heady uneasiness of HoX/PoX. Duggan delivers a fun, interesting issue and assembles a great group of characters to embark on a totally unique premise. Lolli does a fantastic job with both expression and action in the issue. It all portends great things for the future of the Dawn of X and Marvels reinvigoration of the X-Men publishing line. Read Full Review
In other words — Marauders, you had me at “ahoy.” Read Full Review
Make no mistake: this is an oddball team, and the lighter, more swashbuckling tone may seem a bit at odds with the more sterile and high-concept ideas that Hickman is playing with. But it works. Nothing about Marauders #1 feels like it wouldn't exist within the same world that the Summers family and their weird moon-based family from X-Men #1 live in. Read Full Review
A great start to the auxiliary Dawn of X line of titles, Marauders #1 is a character-driven comic that subtly works in nuanced explorations of the new X-Men status quo. Feel free to set sail with great enthusiasm here. Read Full Review
If you're interested in an X-Men title filled with some of your classic favorites that's well-paced, funny, and filled with just enough action and questions as the story continues, this is your X-Book. Read Full Review
Marauders #1 is an entertaining book that fills a necessary void in Marvel's new X-Men line. Read Full Review
Marauders #1 is a complete experience that nearly perfectly establishes the tone of the series. Everything comes together well making this one of the most well-rounded X-Men books in the modern era. Duggan, Lolli, and Blee will be a fantastic team going forward as Pryde and her friends make life better for mutants. Read Full Review
If you are looking for that one fun X-Book of the bunch, right now I have a good feeling that book will be Marauders. The first issue proved to us that there is going to be a good reason for a lot of these books and different teams. Is it important to have to read Marauders to understand everything else unfolding in the mutant world? Not really, but this is one that you are going to pick up for an X-Book you are going to get anywhere else. Read Full Review
A great start to a new adventure for a team that has strong potential within for so many reasons. Let's go pirating. Read Full Review
Final Verdict: 8.2 There are definitely some really great moments, as well as a solid premise for way more adventure to come, but a tendency to do too much at one time can crowd the characters and overshadow their otherwise captivating emotional journeys. Read Full Review
Marauders is off to a good start with a very interesting premise, if they can pull it off. Read Full Review
All in all, I think X-Fans of all stripes will be satisfied by this series. The progression of the characters is logical, from what I've seen of the new X-Line. The artwork is impressive. Hopefully these Marauders will keep sailing for some time. Read Full Review
All together, for a #1, Marauders establishes its premise well, even as it is working on some of the characterizations. The art isn't spectacular, but it is up to the task. We also get a few of the graphic info pages, the fine print of which continues to earn Tom Muller a nomination for an award in my book. I'm not disappointed in picking this one up and look forward to where the mutant pirates of Krakoa set sail next. Read Full Review
Marauders is a different X-Men title than we're used to, and that's a good thing. Read Full Review
Marauders is a fun adventure comic with a great cast of characters. Entertaining art leads you through a great narrative with a whole mound of hints for the action that is to come. Read Full Review
By the time you finish reading Marauders #1, this book's high concept will click into place, and you'll understand the idea of Kitty Pryde and her "mutant pirates" in a way that makes more sense than, say, a throwback to Nightcrawler's 1990s era hoop earring and buccaneer boots. Admittedly, Duggan doesn't necessarily capitalize on his page count in terms of introducing the rest of his characters, but his take on Kitty is a winning one, and hopefully as this series picks up steam, Marauders will shore up some extra goodwill for its high seas high concept. Often in the stories I have read, I have associated Shadowcat as a minor character and a romantic interest to Colossus. Now I see her as the protagonist leader she was meant to be. Read Full Review
Marauders has a ton of potential with the series' roster and plot points, but needs to deliver stronger character beats. Read Full Review
Marauders #1 is a disappointing read. The basic concept for this new team is cool. But, the quality of writing and execution of the concept is poor. Marauders #1 is also a comic that comes with a heavy cover price of $5.00. There is simply no way I can recommend readers drop that kind of entertainment dollar for Marauders #1. $5.00 will nearly pay for one month of the new Disney+ streaming service! There are far better ways to spend your entertainment dollar. And there are so many other superhero titles currently on the market that are way more worth your hard-earned dollar. Read Full Review
Great set-up! Love the team line-up and the pirate theme is a lot of fun. Anything to do with the (now former) Hellfire Club is a plus too.
Honestly when I read the initial solicitation for this series I was worried it wasn’t going to be my thing, but I’d end up reading it anyway because Kitty Pryde is my favorite character. I was wrong. This book is great! It’s fun, with a lot of action, some unanswered questions and a good pace to the story. The art is perfect, it definitely matches the feel of the book. I can’t wait for the next issue! This is definitely going to be the Dawn of X book to beat in my humble opinion!
Prelude:
It's time for the first non-Hickman Dawn of X series. Add to that, it's mutant pirates and Marauders has a lot to prove.
The Good:
Right of the bat, really interesting problem for Kate. This will definitely be a point of contention going forward and I'd love to see where it goes.
This issue is called "I'm on a Boat".
I freaking love Kate in this. Absolutely amazing.
Infographics are continuing in non-Hickman Dawn of X books! More Sinister Secrets are what I'm excited for the most but the other, more casual ones are great too.
It's great seeing the fallout on a public scale for the foundation of Krakoa.
I loved Emma Frost as well in this.
The Bad: more
great story great art great book! I really enjoyed this one. I loved logan's shopping list
A really solid start.
Gerry Duggan writes a great Kitty Pryde.
X-Pirates selling big pharma drugs while saving stranded mutants around the globe, what's not to love? This was an incredibly fun issue, and if you're a fan of Kitty Pryde, this is especially awesome.
The first outside creators to leap into Jonathan Hickman's new X-sandbox build a magnificent castle out of top-shelf art, compelling premises, great humor, and an instantly-endearing new take on Kitty, sorry, Kate Pryde. I get that this won't be everybody's cup of tea -- for certain X-fans, the sight of their darling Kitty chugging whisky and running out of #$%@s to give will be a monocle-popping outrage -- but this is very much to my taste.
So with House of X, Powers of X and X-Men #1 out of the way we get the first X-Book under the Dawn of X banner not written by Johnathan Hickman. I was gonna review X-Men #1 but I didn't care enough to throw 1000 words up about it so I figured I'd start here. I could have also reviewed Excaliber #1 but, fuck that book.
I was nervous about reading the non-Hickman X-Men books. It's been hit and miss but Marauders #1 was pretty good. The biggest change for me was seeing Kitty Pride A.K.A. Kate as a badass. She's had some ninja training since the '80s but she's never really embraced the role as she does here. I like the dynamic that is quickly established here between Kate and Emma. They don't have the best relationship but its nowhe more
I really liked this, and I wasn't expecting it at all.
I thought it would just be another "X-team" book that does the same old stuff with a slightly different roster.
Red Queen of the Seas Kate Pryde! ARRRRRRRR!
I'm in.
Dawn of X is off to a killer start, and so is Marauders. While it looks like Marauders will be one of the weaker Dawn of X titles, Marauders 1 was nonetheless an exciting and intriguing start. The dynamic between Kitty, Bobby, and Ororo had me reminiscing the Claremont years, Lolli’s art fits Duggan’s tone perfectly
What a great start. Duggan hasn't been this good since the Red Skull arc he did on Uncanny Avengers couple years back. If the rest of Dawn of X books are this good...god help my wallet.
Amazing introduction to Kitty Pryde’s new status quo. She has a very unique problem that really makes you feel for her. The way she chooses to work through that problem is both highly entertaining and a great example of why Kitty Pryde is an all-time great X-Man. Supporting cast is also top notch, definitely the team I’m most excited about in Dawn of X. Text pages that Hickman has been using are employed here to hilarious effect. Gerry Duggan is just good at writing humor. I hope they show more Bishop in the next issue, because he doesn’t get much here, but Marauders has got me hooked already.
Straight dopeness. Way to set off a #1 issue. Kaye Pryde in the house. Gerry Duggan will kill this comic. I’m in for the ride or rather sail!!!
Awesome start from this series. There's so much cool worldbuilding that takes place within this issue, and that was surprising given that Hickman isn't writing this book. Kitty works as the main character, providing a problem and flaw that she's working to solve throughout the series. The rest of the cast is also written very well, particularly Iceman and Emma Frost. Art is really good too. If each of these X-Men books seems to be a different genre (X-Men: action/adventure, Marauders: Pirate/Fantasy, Excalibur: Sci-Fi, New Mutants: Horror, X-Force: Spy, Fallen Angels: Thriller), I could definitely get into this new X-Men direction.
Comicbook greatness!
At first, I wasn't excited for this book but wow issue one has won me over! Highly recommend! Only issue I had was when Kitty put the gun between the guys legs. Art very good! But with plot can see it going to a mini series
A pretty fun start to to the first Dawn of X series not written by Jonathan Hickman. Lolli's art is really solid throughout, and I also enjoy the premise set up by Duggan here. Having Kate unable to pass through the Krakoan gates is a super interesting choice with her abilities in mind, and I like the idea of there being a team to help mutants, who are currently unable to, come to Krakoa. The team is good as well. Kate, Iceman, and Storm are all good-to-great characters that I can get invested in. I'm not a big Pyro fan, but he was enjoyable here as well and I'm interested to see how Bishop factors more into this. I'm not sure how much Emma will be involved here, though. Either way, a nice start with this issue and I'm looking forward to remore
This was pretty fun.
" Hello krakoa, what'd i do piss you off. "
- Kate Pryde
Been a while since Duggan got me engaged un one of his series. I love Kate and the new status quo is well exploited. All hail the Red Queen
Fun, Fun, Fun!
That's the best way to describe Marauders. The One Piecezation that Kitty, or rather, Kate, is going through promises to be the fun role of the new era of the X-men. Secondly, how ironic that she is working with Emma to do questionable things. A partner that promises a lot.
Shadowcat has always been an adventure-loving character, so her going out to save mutants who "can't access Krakoa" seems like a pretty fun plot device. However, why can't she access Krakoa herself? This seems like a topic I'm quite interested in discovering.
THE GOOD:
-I quite liked this issue. Maybe even more than X-Men #1, if I'm being honest.
-I like the ideas of mutants that can't enter Krakoa. I also like how fleshed out Hickman's X-World is.
-Kitty Pryde is a super fun main character. This is the best incarnation of the character in a very long time.
-I really like Gerry Duggan's dialogue. I'm not super familiar with him as a writer, but I can say that his plots always seem to be pretty basic, but the personality he adds on top of them makes the issues worthwhile.
-This did such a great job with the charts and graphics. Duggan took what Hickman established and made it his own, adding a really welcome level of character and humor.

I've been really down on the HoX/PoX stuff because it is, honestly, just terrible in my opinion but Marauders was a pretty fun comic. Kitty was finally made interesting.
I love the character of Kate Pryde. I'm glad she is a team leader for one of the books. I liked this first issue but I have to say I found Kate's actions a bit on the ruthless side. She's not usually so savage. Leaving a gun in the legs of those 2 men was out of character for her. I wonder if this is just a new direction they are taking her or if it's going to end up Emma's doing? It will be interesting to find out.
Great premise and great art but I'm not sold on it yet.
SUMMARY
Not as breathtaking story as everything else but a great start. good story, particularly in how it showcases how bad ass kitty ( i mean kate ) has become. I wonder what they'll do next?
THE BEST BITS
1. bobby saying "i'd like to meet these top men" and a bubble originating from an off panel wolverine saying "did you get it?" it's part woke part meta and not too overbearing on both fronts. I had to google duggan immediately. I think there was a lot of thought that was put into that one single interaction. BRAVO.
2. Sassy sinister's rumor mill is back! Such a pleasure.
3. oh the colors on this one. gradients of pink and orange, blues and yellows,
4. that fight scene that went on for a coupl more
"Call me Kate"
This was fun.
The Cover is horrendously stupid and I was really worried this was going to be some super cheesy ass pirate Xmen comic book. But what we got was better thank god but well... It was ok...I did like the concept of finding mutants around the globe and bringing them home, but the story gets a little dry half way through and I couldnt help but get the feeling I was reading a bunch of Filler Content at times during this premiere issue. I did love the action scenes, it felt like a different comic during those parts and they were illustrated really well. The art style is the definition of comic book art, and I dont mean that as a compliment. Its sort of bland with nothing to praise nor complain about. Overall this is a pretty basic comic and Im notmore
Too light-hearted, too Kitty-centric, too X-Men Gold... not to my taste.
To tell the true i expected something simillar to Deadpool which had been written by Gerry Dugan and my expectation were confirmed. This great Hickman's stuff won't last long with temp of "Bear for Logan and roasting people because it's funny".
Decided to give this one a try since there's been so much hype about it and since I really would love to have a good "X-Men comic" again. Unfortunately, I didn't find this to be anything special and definitely not worth continuing to buy each month.
I have read issues 1 to 9 of this series and it’s something of a convoluted mess.
While the Hellfire Kitty Pride set up is interesting it never feels vital or connected in a relevant wat with the Hickman books.
The Hellfire club had never been this boring. Character development is pilr with the exception of Pryde and Emma Frost, and the story is incomprehensible half the time.
Have you noted that in years and years Storm has barely been given a decent or interesting storyline? The art sucks sometimes which is a sign that this is not considered a top notch book.
Wait for the paperback if you love Pride or avoid.
