What makes Unstoppable Doom Patrol #1 so entertaining is you don't even need a deep knowledge of the franchise to enjoy it. This is definitely a great opener for the team's newest iteration. The essence of the past series can be felt here, while it also strives to break new ground in the "Dawn of the DC." Read Full Review

Culvers new Doom Patrol makes a promising first showing in an issue that makes a strikingly distinct first impression. There are a lot of little elements moving in around the edges of the action that feel like they could turn into something interesting with the right momentum. Read Full Review

Unstoppable Doom Patrol #1 has loads of nods to past Doom Patrol stories, but Culver and Burnham find new wrinkles especially in their take on Jane/The Chief and how the team interacts with more mainline superheroes although I was totally substituting Lazarus Planet with Invasion! in the page where that's mentioned. All in all, the book features a quirky cast of characters rescuing societal outcasts and saving the day, but in an offbeat way with Burnham flexing his horror muscles in a PG-13 way and still providing a lot of big action and bright colors courtesy of Brian Reber and shows it's okay to get weird sometimes and express big emotions. Unstoppable Doom Patrol #1 brings the eclectic band of misfits back to the spotlight with a new mission, new team members, and the hint of new enemies waiting to pounce. The story is weird, gross, and crass, but that's exactly what you want from a Doom Patrol comic. Read Full Review

Overall, it's strongthe new characters are interesting, warts and all, while the writing does a good job of showing how the Doom Patrol handles things differently than Batman and co. Burnham's art is note-perfect for this bookjust the right mix of goofy and occasionally horrific. Read Full Review

The opening issue covers a lot of the basics of the concept but I'm not sure how many of those concepts will last more than a couple of issues, at that, as things get weirder. It's definitely an interesting angle to approach with and to find a lane to play in after the Lazarus story that I did not read. We also get a subplot with the Brain and Mallah as they're going after Immortus for things but that's less clear about what it's about at the moment and just more of the standard weirdness of these characters. I'm intrigued, however. With some solid artwork that I'm excited to see how it shapes things as we get more time with the cast and more weirdness, it's all got a lot of potential. Read Full Review
