Being a huge fan of MacKay, Campbell and of course Felicia, with this creative team they would have to go some way to disappoint me. Safe to say that didn't happen. With Felicia's almost obsession with a certain red-head in her own, it's great to see the pair together. By continuing this theme, MacKay gets to build on Mary Jane and Felicia's relationship, although maybe not in the same way that Peter dreams. A fantastic book, that goes to show that dropping Black Cat from schedule is a huge mistake for Marvel. Read Full Review

Mary Jane/Black Cat: Beyond #1features an unorthodox team-up between the two most important ladies in Peter Parker's life, resulting in a fast-paced and funny tale. Between this story and the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #87, which is slated to debut later this week, I'm glad MacKay has joined the Beyond Saga. Read Full Review

Tapping into the Spider-Man Beyond realm, this issue serves not only as a fun team-up between the title characters but puts a definitive statement in place about who and what Felicia Hardy/Black Cat is as a person and character. This is the perfect epilogue to properly close out what was truly among the best titles that Marvel Comics was publishing the past few years. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

There was a time when Peter Parker could have been said to have been having a midlife crisis. It was back in the mid-1980s (back then, continuity could still be said to reach back to the character's origin in the early 1960s, which would have made him middle-aged at the time.) He just come back from another planet with an alien costume. Spider-Man he was hanging out with Black Cat. As Peter Parker, he was getting into severe emotional territory with Mary Jane. One woman represented one side of his wife. The other represented the other. Ultimately he got married to Mary Jane. MacKay Takes the traditional dynamic between the two of them and pears them beautifully in a really, really breezy action story that's got a little bit of emotional weight to it as well. Mary Jane and Black Cat: Beyond #1 gives a cool team-up between the two leading ladies. The story provides a solid reason why they team up so it doesn't feel forced, and the adventure they have is actually fun. The comic keeps both MJ and Black Cat distinct heroines and delivers some sincere emotional development between the two. This comic works in the Beyond storyline and as a great standalone story featuring these two characters. Read Full Review

While this bills itself as a "Beyond" book, with the exception of Peter's coma, this could have happened almost any time and been carried on the charm of its two leads. Their tension makes up for a more present antagonist, and Robbins does just enough to make his presence the proper motivation. It's also interesting that the solicitations for this book originally had it being written by Saladin Ahmed with a wildly different plot. Oh well. Regardless, this self-contained issue is a masterpiece of plotting and characterization that's fun for almost everybody " except Shocker and Parker Robbins. Read Full Review

I didn't really expect much from this issue but to be honest I was incredibly surprised. The chemistry between MJ and Black Cat is outstanding, the humor in the story is fantastic and the development of the plot makes total sense. Everything feels right in the issue, definitely worth the read if you're looking for a simple and entertaining one-shot.

This was lovely, loved how everyone was written here, not that I was surprised since it's from the creative team of the Black Cat solo series. Mackay's Felicia is amazing as always, but I was took by surprise by how well he wrote MJ, this is the best she has been written in a very long time, she's fun, she is an real asset to the heist using her set of skills, and her interactions with Felicia feel so natural, it's just great to see these characters together, their friendship has evolved a lot through the years and this issue showcased it perfectly.

Ugh Jed McKay's Black Cat is SO GOOD. My only complaint about this issue is that there isn't enough of it. I want a full-length MJ/Black Cat series by this creative team; to judge from this issue it would be a masterpiece.

I was cautious about this issue. I thought for a cat fight, they'll ignore Felicia and MJ interaction in past. Even if they are very less but still it is significant. MacKay didn't. All of this felt natural. Pep Talk between MJ and Black Cat felt real and Natural. Fun reading it. MacKay killing it.

A tie-in prompt from the Beyond arc turns into a perfect excuse for a bonus issue of Jed MacKay's Black Cat. It delivers all the feisty appeal of that series, plus it becomes a stellar spotlight on Mary Jane. I rate it as less than perfect because the plot, while a serviceable vehicle for a fun story and amazing characterization, isn't great on its own. (Not BAD, just not great.) It's not consequential or transformative for the protagonists. And at a few minor points, the storytelling (both in words and art) takes shortcuts, like the creators know the plot isn't the point. I rate it as damn near perfect because the character work (and the humor) are world class. It's these features that make the slight shortcomings of the plot eminent more

Yeah, this is kinda fun. But seriously, MJ with a Black Cat dress climbing a skyscraper and jumping off it like it's nothing? Tombstone keeping a demon in a safe? Liked the dialogues, but that's pretty much it. (I can see why wankers liked it that much, tho).
