Geoff Shaws art is amazing throughout this issue. Everything from the pace of the panels to the impressive character designs works to enhance and elevate an already interesting and fun story to another level. Read Full Review
"Guardians of the Galaxy" #6 is a fantastic conclusion to this volume's opening arc, providing action-packed thrills and engaging character beats in equal measure. Read Full Review
This issue and its story arc have propelled this team from a ragtag group of heroes who do amazing things, to an amazing team right up there with the Avengers. The creators haven't forgotten it's the heart of this team, and their unity under the face of incredible odds, that makes them so special. Read Full Review
A really fun issue, but a bit light in some aspects. Read Full Review
The opening storyline ends well, with a nice fight, a few twists and strong character work throughout. Read Full Review
Geoff Shaw has been carrying the team while we wait for this GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY run to really take-off. Read Full Review
If youve been reading GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY so far, you got to pick this up to see what happened. However,I just don't feel as excited for the series moving forward as he was when the series began. Read Full Review
Thanos' Return arc comes to a close here. Sadly, the story here ends abruptly, even though it is action focused. Regardless, the team here has set up something that still leaves the reader ready for more, even if this comic was underwhelming. Read Full Review
As a resolution, it's too small and too big at the same time, having qualities of big event storytelling and a more intimate character-driven story, each preventing the other the full space and time required for it to satisfyingly play out that way. Read Full Review
Prelude:
It's the final issue of The Final Gauntlet. Let's see how Cates wraps up his first arc of Guardians with Geoff Shaw.
The Good:
I like the big team set-up and how they're all working together.
Shaw brings some of his best work for this issue.
Interesting development for Frank.
Likewise, it'll be interesting to see where Thanos goes with this recent development.
The Bad:
Nothing.
Conclusion:
As we race towards The Death of Rocket and Faithless, Cates finishes The Final Gauntlet with great effect.
Omg no my special bony boy.
"That's the thing though peter. If i had been in your Shoes. I would have Killed me in a heartbeat
I dug this.
Solid first act by Cates. He proves that he really gets the cosmic scene (as well as Venom). Looking forward to his next arcs
It was good but somehow still waiting for it to take off. I just can't put my finger on it but it feels off. Maybe because we're running in the same hallways and corridors as before. As far as I'm concerned we can only go up from here.
It was pretty good. D. Cates is a good writer, but I felt his first GOTG arc was a bit, meh. That being said, I can't wait for issue #7.
A bit rushed ending, but still pretty good.
Also, I'm so glad that BRB is still in Guardians. He is a good add to it.
I get the impression that Donny Cates's passion lies with the plot rather than the characters. Which is a valid way to build a story and I think it even lines up with what DnA Guardians fans want. But it doesn't get me fired up, at all. (And I agree that the cast is too big and lacks chemistry.)
I think the problem with the book is it has too many characters and some of them feel underdeveloped or just kind of there. It is a similar problem I had with Steve Orlando's Justice League America, where it had a bunch of cool characters, but they didn't really have any chemistry on the same team.
The emotional climax was too contrived for me.
