WAR OF THE REALMS is a return to form for Marvel events, it's an instant classic that just has fun being a Marvel comic book. This is should be the blueprint for large-scale comic book crossover events going forward; hopefully DC is paying attention as well. Read Full Review
A fun issue that sets up the finale nicely I can't wait for #6! Read Full Review
Russell Dauterman is killing it with the art in this issue. All of the action works and the characters look amazing. The moments with Thor look amazing. Read Full Review
It's not broken and Jason Aaron isn't attempting to fix it. This book definitely embraces the fun and grandeur that superhero books are ultimately all about. Big action, high stakes, Thor on fire".definitely worth your time. Read Full Review
War of the Realms (2019-) #5 is full of beautiful art and fun combinations of characters defending Earth, but doesn't move the story too far forward. Read Full Review
Eisner worthy art; Amazing story. Read Full Review
Even though the focus was about tying up loose ends related to our hero teams, Aaron still managed to make this issue feel large, worldly, exciting, action packed, and apocalyptic while drawing all heroes together for something truly special. Read Full Review
Thanks to the dozens of tie-ins, this issue was quickly able to make sure characters were where they needed to be, for better or for worse, in an epic conclusion next issue. Read Full Review
War of the Realms #5 delivers more terrific artwork and more underwhelming plot. Read Full Review
It's easy to be cynical about superhero events, seeing them not so much as stories as marketing launchpads for new spin-off storylines across the rest of a publishing line " but seeing a team as talented as Aaron and Dauterman buckling under the weight of the War of the Realms does make me wonder if it's at all possible to deliver a satisfying story in an event-driven ecosystem, regardless of who's behind the wheel. War of the Realms is just a bunch of big, well-drawn panels of superheroes fighting bad guys and little more than that. Read Full Review
Another 10 out of 10 performance for Jason Aaron's War of the Realms. This event truly feels like a war instead of a prolonged battle, and Russell Dauterman's art in this series is some of the best art in a comic ever. Everything is coming together for the upcoming grand finale and I could not be more excited. Everything about this issue is perfect.
Love this event so much!
This is just a montage of all the awesome battles happening around the world, and thus it's slightly lacking in the "strong spinal plot" department. But dammit, its combat vignettes are consistently AWESOME.
In case you want a hand with the chronology: The global war montage, with Thor bringing the thunder all across Midgard, happens first. Then Malekith's Stonehenge challenge. Then Daredevil taking Thor to the sun. Then Heimdall taking Jane to Asgard. Got it?
Great issue again.
This issue is a lot of really cool fighting.
The war is close to being over, and while this issue provided quite a hefty amount of setup for the final battle, it was still a very enjoyable read.
It's been said over and over but it is true fantastic art but an incomplete story if read on its own which I find unfair. I found myself confused by Thor's timeline as well. Went from a journey to a separated mess.
Lots of punching. So very much punching. There are a lot of skirmishes that are flushed out in other tie-ins that I have no interest in pursuing. I'm still annoyed by the way the Punisher just stands around shooting throughout this event. His use of tactics are what is supposed to make him interesting in a fight, any asshole can shoot a gun while standing. The World Tree stuff is interesting and the issue's main saving grace.
Beautiful art but terribly disjointed story. I guess we're not even pretending that the central limited series can be read on its own and tell a complete story any more.
