Defeating her now-estranged husband, Mr. Freeze, isn't enough to sate Nora Fries's bloodlust as she usurps his frozen throne, establishing herself as the first ice queen of Gotham. The Dark Knight will have his hands full as Nora unleashes an icy hell unlike any other on his city's streets.

This story has been one of the best to come out of the entire series, and this issue is was just so much fun and entertaining to read. All the art catches your eye and really helps to bring this story to life. If you haven't gotten into this story line yet, I highly suggest you do because it's definitely is one of the best in awhile. If you have been keeping up, make sure you pick up this issue ASAP because you do not want to miss it! Read Full Review

One of the best aspects of this Tomasi run on Detective is he's not stretching out arcs to go on for six or seven issues to fluff up a trade. He tells the story for the exact length as needed without any padding. That's what makes this issue and this arc so effective leading to another winner for the Detective Comics team. This one won't make you cry, but Detective Comics #1016 is a fine example of creating a classic Batman tale that still feels contemporary. Tomasi's been building this Batman since the beginning of his run and it's an enjoyable and satisfying read that provides some real emotional content as he pushes Nora and Victor's story forward. Hopefully, the events in Batman won't destroy the even keeled character that inhabits Detective Comics every month. Read Full Review

I did love this issue as much as I wanted Freeze to actually have a happy ending. I feel like there was nothing more that anyone could do with his character and thats why he hasnt seen much use in so many years. At the same time, I also feel like Nora herself is just taking on the personality of Mr. Freeze from The Batman tv show from 2005. Its not bad, but I suppose we dont have enough of a motivation from her to continue committing crimes aside from some small feeling of entitlement over not being able to live her life. But the art was fantastic and we finally have an ending for one of the most tragic sagas in Batman history, even if it wasnt what everyone was expecting. Read Full Review

It is clear that this arc is about to come to ahead. Honestly, this feels like one of those what-ifs that went all the way to the best possible outcome side of things. I hope Nora sticks and Victor goes. She's everything that he isn't as a villain. She needs none of his crazy methods because she expected to be dead. What else is there to do other than live life to the fullest? Read Full Review

    Batman-News - Jay Yaws Nov 27, 2019

An entertaining story, confidently told by masters of their individual crafts. There's quite a bit in this issue that may not make me truly love a lot of the choices made in this arc, but they're contextualized in a believable manner. So while it may not be the story I would have told, I can still see why this is the story the creators chose to tell. It looks gorgeous and there's quite a bit of heart amidst tragedy, which is about what you'd expect from this Detective Comics creative team. Read Full Review

    Weird Science - Joey Casco CSW/CSS Nov 27, 2019

I feel bad for Freeze because he desperately wants to help Nora. He even accepts that she doesn't want to be with him anymore, but he still wants to help her instead of just stopping her. And I like the idea that Nora is out there and even more of a threat than Victor is. Those things are cool and the art was good, but this whole arc could have been much much better. Especially if the science made sense. Read Full Review

i really hope that DC will do another reboot soon!
all this arc did was ruin the character of Nora Freeze.

DC really needs to drop this rushed Bi-Weekly release schedule.
so many rushed, half-baked ideas. a lot of cringe dialogue.

i used to really love this run, and was excited for each new issue.
now the only reason i continue buying this series is because i respect Tomasi and want to continue supporting his Batman. though if i just stopped buying it completely i really don't think i'd miss it. as much as i enjoyed getting to spend just a little bit more time Tomisi's version of Alfred, i'm glad this arc is finally over.

It's the finale to Cold Dark World, I've been enjoying this arc so let's see how Tomasi lands it.

    The Good:
It's a flip on the classic tale and I like it.

Tomasi logically explains why Nora is acting this way and it works well.

Nora is interesting to watch knowing how she is acting.

    The Bad:
Art is a bit off at points.

Doesn't fully feel like the arc is over even though it is.

An interesting end to Cold Dark World that I like but it doesn't feel like it's the end of the arc weirdly enough.

A lot to like here, but I am not sure we need Mrs. Freeze. Though I sort of love that Luthor cheated poor Victor. I assume a lot of his gifts are going to work out that way.

    "Rhapsody in Blue"

A nice ending to an uneven story arc.

The new Freeze villain may prove fun in the future and I really enjoyed the connection to Forever Evil (now that was a good comic book event), but you can see that Tomasi is struggling here, having to tiptoe around the ideas and stories other writers have put forth, mainly Snyder and King.

If he was just given the opportunity to write something without any constraints, that might have been something really amazing and worthwhile.

Tomasi had a good start with Detective Comics but lately either everyone got lazy at DC or something is happening with the editors. I don't want to go into spoilers but the story is boring despite trying to be a nod to the edginess of the 90's. Tomasi has a problem writing women. They always feel stiff and (while I disagree with the overuse of the term) a bit misogynistic? Robotic?
