Comics: The Gathering - Wes Greer
Nov 27, 2019
This story has been one of the best to come out of the entire series, and this issue is was just so much fun and entertaining to read. All the art catches your eye and really helps to bring this story to life. If you haven't gotten into this story line yet, I highly suggest you do because it's definitely is one of the best in awhile. If you have been keeping up, make sure you pick up this issue ASAP because you do not want to miss it! Read Full Review

One of the best aspects of this Tomasi run on Detective is he's not stretching out arcs to go on for six or seven issues to fluff up a trade. He tells the story for the exact length as needed without any padding. That's what makes this issue and this arc so effective leading to another winner for the Detective Comics team. Read Full Review

This one won't make you cry, but Detective Comics #1016 is a fine example of creating a classic Batman tale that still feels contemporary. Tomasi's been building this Batman since the beginning of his run and it's an enjoyable and satisfying read that provides some real emotional content as he pushes Nora and Victor's story forward. Hopefully, the events in Batman won't destroy the even keeled character that inhabits Detective Comics every month. Read Full Review

I did love this issue as much as I wanted Freeze to actually have a happy ending. I feel like there was nothing more that anyone could do with his character and thats why he hasnt seen much use in so many years. At the same time, I also feel like Nora herself is just taking on the personality of Mr. Freeze from The Batman tv show from 2005. Its not bad, but I suppose we dont have enough of a motivation from her to continue committing crimes aside from some small feeling of entitlement over not being able to live her life. But the art was fantastic and we finally have an ending for one of the most tragic sagas in Batman history, even if it wasnt what everyone was expecting. Read Full Review

Mrs. Freeze is dead set on escaping the cold grasp of her husband and starting a new life, and she'll do whatever it takes to be free, even if that means turning Gotham City into an icy graveyard. Tomasi and his team continues to impress. Read Full Review

It is clear that this arc is about to come to ahead. Honestly, this feels like one of those what-ifs that went all the way to the best possible outcome side of things. I hope Nora sticks and Victor goes. She's everything that he isn't as a villain. She needs none of his crazy methods because she expected to be dead. What else is there to do other than live life to the fullest? Read Full Review

An entertaining story, confidently told by masters of their individual crafts. There's quite a bit in this issue that may not make me truly love a lot of the choices made in this arc, but they're contextualized in a believable manner. So while it may not be the story I would have told, I can still see why this is the story the creators chose to tell. It looks gorgeous and there's quite a bit of heart amidst tragedy, which is about what you'd expect from this Detective Comics creative team. Read Full Review

The Mr. Freeze arc concludes in Detective Comics #1016 with many of the same strengths and weaknesses of the arc so far, but it does resolve some of the bigger plot holes nicely. Read Full Review

The Cold, Dark World storyline has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs from issue to issue, but it manages to stick a moderate landing and leave enough of a story thread to get us excited for what may come down the road. Read Full Review

I feel bad for Freeze because he desperately wants to help Nora. He even accepts that she doesn't want to be with him anymore, but he still wants to help her instead of just stopping her. And I like the idea that Nora is out there and even more of a threat than Victor is. Those things are cool and the art was good, but this whole arc could have been much much better. Especially if the science made sense. Read Full Review
