I thoroughly enjoyed this issue a lot and it's about time. Some of the previous Uncanny issues felt a little mediocre and this one shows that we finally have the right person on the flagship book. It's a wild ride as we explore the psyche of Scott Summers. Brilliant writing makes this an easy, yet somehow complex, read. Cyclops saved Paul Douek so it's only fitting that Paul return the favor here. Cable's role is necessary to this story and I wouldn't have it any other way. The issue does what it's supposed to, answer the question as to how Cyclops came back from the dead. The reason delivered is a shrug and a little convoluted but some of the meta discussion makes it all rather interesting. Uncanny X-Men Annual #1 is not a perfect issue but it does succeed in its most important mission of returning Cyclops back to life. Ed Brisson used everything that Cyclops did and how things turn out for him to create strong motivation for what will push the character forward. With where the X-Men are now Cyclops returning as the team's leader couldn't come at a better time. Hopefully the positive character work done here is a sign of compelling stories to be told in the pages of Uncanny X-Men. Read Full Review

The story by writer Ed Brisson and Carlos Gomez ties in a flashback to a scientist crucial for Cable to bring Cyclops back (and printing it in old-school comic-style was a nice touch). As we've seen elsewhere, the new Cable is a bit of a dick forcing Cyclops to choose between helping the X-Men or saving the innocent man who resurrected him. Rebranding the character firmly back in the hero column, the real question is where does Cyclops go from here in his steps to rebuild the X-Men? Worth a look. Read Full Review

Perfect. Brisson developed a very good way to bring back such an important character that was severely disrespected over the last decade.

Excellent art and a very good story, that bring back the first x-men and the true leader of this team.

Lit AF

Kid Cable runs a complicated timey-wimey caper to explain how Cyclops is alive again. The upshot is, a little judiciously-applied super-science finessed the temporary rebirth the Phoenix performed during Resurrection and made it permanent. Plenty of attention is paid to the logic of it all, and the story also features some nice character work on Kid Cable and Scott. Part of the former's plan involves presenting the latter with a little character test before releasing him back into the wild. Cyclops passes with flying colors - as does this compelling comic.

YOU MAY HAVE THOUGHT SPOILERS WERE DEAD, BUT ALAS, THEY ARE VERY ALIVE IN THIS REVIEW!

THE GOOD:

-This Uncanny X-Men series is really starting to pick up. This was a great issue that let us know the story behind how Scott's alive.

-Really great art, especially the flashback scenes.

-Solid writing. I like the dialogue especially.

-Cool opening scene. I thought it was well-executed.

-That flashback scene was great and nostalgic in all the right ways.

-I thought the Paul Douek storyline was really nice and compelling.

-It was interesting to see them go through the Death of X, Phoenix Resurrection and X-Men Disassembled story lines in a different point of view.

-I really liked both Scott and Nate in this issue. Nicely written and characterized. It was great to see Nate break the rules for Scott and Scott's choice.

-This issue had a great ending. Nice job.

-I can't wait for the next one! This series is starting to turn into something special!

THE BAD:

-My only complaint is that the revival of Scott could've been a bit less simple. Maybe I'm just tired of character deaths and their constant reversal. more

I've missed you Scott. And I'm glad you are back and better than ever.

At this point the best issue of the series.

This was really good. It brings Cyclops back in a reasonable (for comics) way.

I stop the monthly very fast. It wasn't good for my point of view. It was very very bad in fact.
But. But I read a good review about this story and I decide to take it. I wanted to give it his chance. And I was surprised in the good way. It's not perfect, but Brisson use the timeline smartly and damn I liked his cyclop. I'm not a fan of Boyscout Cyclop. I liked him when he stood for what was right to stand (But didn't like that marvel make him a terrorist). And I'm ok with what I read there.

Writing - It's simple, that use well many X-men story (Who was bad for most) and that pose a brand new good cyclop. Yes the solution is a deus ex machina, but at least Brisson didn't try to sell a brand new complicated idea. Or a bas one (I look at ya Phoenix Ressurection). And it was fast, not too fast, in fact it's feel good. There is just a thing that Brisson miss. A explanation at why Kid Cable & Cyclop didn't disapear too. I hope the "it's the beach" thing will not explain it, because I'm not sure all the X-men that disapear was one the beach. 2.5/3
Arts - The panel was good. I like the work done to make the story in the past with a style close to old books. 3/3
Feeling - Hey they even succeed to make me interested to take the monthly back. Bravo ! 2/2 more

This was a pretty cool issue even though time travel sucks.

Super excited that Scott is back. The way they killed him off was dumb, so I am glad they made it happen, although I am sad that we still haven't seen the Scott, Jean meet up yet. This is like Mary Jane and Peter, Marvel just doesn't want them to be happy. Ever.

The reason the book got a bit lower was because Scott's voice seemed off. Maybe it's because he's been dead for so long, but it just didn't read like a leader, it read more like a lackey. I have high hopes for him and Logan to team up... I mean my two favorite X-Men, working together and saving the mutant race? Yeah, sign me up.

Fine. Not great, but Brisson did his homework.
