Overall this is a good first issue in the "Venom Island" storyline. Cates sets up two major elements that will change Eddie's life before whisking him off to the island to find some inner peace. Absolute Carnage upended Eddie's life and brought him closer to the Symbiote and it looks like this new series will be about Eddie getting closer to himself. After the craziness of Absolute Carnage we get a chance for a brand new story arc, a throwback to a classic ASM story, and a chance to slow things down before the inevitable insanity of Knull’s arrival and what that’ll mean for our heroes. The anti hero is an interesting character almost by definition. Someone who isn't clear cut black and white, they have their bad side but they try and do the right thing in the end. Eddie has had a pretty interesting time of late… but this issue clearly sets things up for some pretty big events and I'm not going to blow any of the reveals here, but you can practically feel the energy build on this one… grab this copy so you are ready for the storm that is coming. Wow, I love this book

One of the best superhero titles out right now. Mark Bagley is one of the greatest Spider-Man artists of all time and him joining an already amazing title is a dream come true.

This was both a solid epilogue to Absolute Carnage and a great start to a new arc.

This was a great issue. I don't really want to spoil anything, so I'll just keep quiet, but that final line was so great.

One of the most consistently excellent books Marvel has on the shelves right now starts off a brand new arc, and this is looking to be a fun one.

It's time for Venom Island. Let's see how Cates deals with Venom and the fallout from Absolute Carnage.

The Good:
I do like the tension between Eddie and Dylan. It's understandable and in character for the two of them.

I love the inner turmoil for Eddie. It's done so well and is great fallout from Absolute Carnage.

Bagley's art is very good in this issue. Not Stegman level but good nevertheless.

It's interesting that the Avengers would want him on their team. We know it wouldn't go through and so it's interesting seeing Eddie's deception.

The Bad:
Nothing.

Conclusion:
Cates starts Venom Island off extremely well. It deals with the fallout from Absolute Carnage and surprises me at points. A great issue for the return to smaller scaled Venom stories. more

Ooo nice.

Continues to be Cates's best series at Marvel so far. And this is supplemented by Bagley art, which I am a sucker for. I like how Venom is seen more as a hero, especially after Absolute Carnage, it's a fun idea to play with him and the Avengers. Also like the new set-up for the status quo with Carnage still a part of him, and the new Venom Island arc which looks fun. I don't have a lot of complaints except for some of the dialogue was a little weird. Good recommmend

A really good issue that keeps the stakes high well starting off the next arc and it seems to be a good one. I'm excites to see what happens.

Eddie fields an impressive team-up offer, but his Carnage problems still aren't done. Good pacing, plotting, and character work here, though I'm running into Carnage fatigue. The art hits me as somewhat dated, too. Still a good comic overall!
