Horror DNA - James Ferguson Jan 5, 2020

We're not quite done with Carnage even after we saw him killed at the end of the Absolute Carnage event. I'm happy with this, as he's a great and terrifying character. This presents a new angle with him, playing with all the symbiotes Eddie absorbed at the end of that arc. We're going from a big, epic story to a more personal and emotional one and it's somehow just as frightening. Venom continues to be the horror hub of the Marvel Universe. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke Dec 24, 2019

Overall this is a good first issue in the "Venom Island" storyline. Cates sets up two major elements that will change Eddie's life before whisking him off to the island to find some inner peace. Absolute Carnage upended Eddie's life and brought him closer to the Symbiote and it looks like this new series will be about Eddie getting closer to himself. This is an example of how violence is always emotional and psychological. Read Full Review

On Comics Ground - Brian Daley Jan 2, 2020

Cates continues to show why he's one of my favorite writers at Marvel right now. He sets up some interesting ideas to come involving Eddie and his placement in the Marvel universe following Absolute Carnage. Read Full Review

Comics: The Gathering - Nick Devonald Dec 26, 2019

After the craziness of Absolute Carnage we get a chance for a brand new story arc, a throwback to a classic ASM story, and a chance to slow things down before the inevitable insanity of Knull’s arrival and what that’ll mean for our heroes. A great premise for the story I can’t wait to see where the story goes. Mark Bagleys art is good while we wait for Ryan Stegmans return. Read Full Review

Even without Stegman's work, Venom remains one of the more interesting and engaging Marvel Comics in 2019. Read Full Review

    Impulse Gamer - Chris O'Connor Jan 4, 2020

The anti hero is an interesting character almost by definition. Someone who isn't clear cut black and white, they have their bad side but they try and do the right thing in the end. Eddie has had a pretty interesting time of late… but this issue clearly sets things up for some pretty big events and I'm not going to blow any of the reveals here, but you can practically feel the energy build on this one… grab this copy so you are ready for the storm that is coming. Weird Science Marvel Comics - wolfcypher Dec 26, 2019

The next phase in the Venom title revisits a very old location from Amazing Spider-Man #347. Venom Island looks to be a lot of fun, especially now that the set-up seems to be out of the way. Hopefully, things only intensifies from here. Read Full Review
