I've enjoyed this arc a lot and with Conrad sticking around, Booster Shot is in a very encouraging place as Action Comics roars to its milestone issue. Read Full Review

DC Comics News - Matthew Lloyd Jan 24, 2018

Uncannily, Dan Jurgens continues to surprise and entertain with new angles. The Rebirth era run on this title commenced with some really interesting situations. It became almost pedestrian with the merging of the two Superman's and Lois's histories. With this story line, the title has achieved a new high watermark as the Super-family shines brightly as individual. Time Travel is always a win and Superman and Booster Gold make for an interesting pairing. Oh, and Earth's war with Krypton? What're you talking about Skeets? Read Full Review

The pairing of Booster Gold and Superman really works. Their competing goals highlights the differences in the two. Booster protects time; Superman is ready to fight injustice at every turn. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - John Jack Jan 27, 2018

This arc is seriously can't miss, and ties into one of my favorite Rebirth series, so naturally this issue is an instant favorite. I can't get enough of Jurgens on Superman and his creation Booster Gold! He has such a firm grasp on the characters and it really shows in the story, even Skeets is fleshed out a bit at points. I can't wait for next issue. Read Full Review

Impulse Gamer - Andrew Bistak Jan 24, 2018

All in all, Action Comics #996 was a well-written comic with some great unexpected twists and some killer art thanks to Will Conrad. I also enjoyed the parallel story of Lois Lane as she searches for her father and once again Action Comics is heading to something big with just four more issues go until we reach the landmark issue 1000. Supergirl Comic Box Commentary - Anj Jan 26, 2018

I feel like I'm in a fog right now in the DCU's history. Hard to believe the New 52 would make things easier?? Especially when I wanted my DCU history to be back. Part of it is ... but which part? Still, this was a good issue and a good chapter. I can only hope the Earth/Krypton war is only a feint. I'm not ready for that again. Read Full Review

Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield Jan 25, 2018

Superman and Booster's jump through time continues in Superman: Action Comics #996, as the series marches on towards the biggest anniversary issue in comic history. But after last issue's drop-in on the 25th century and Booster's family, this issue doesn't quite deliver the same punch in the main narrative. Read Full Review

Bleeding Cool - Joshua Davison Jan 28, 2018

All-in-all, Action Comics #996 is an entertaining read. The slowing of the Superman/Booster Gold plot is made up for somewhat by Lois Lanes story. Conrad and Nuness art does look good, even if it is a jarring change. The overall plot is starting to outstay its welcome though, and it will hopefully come to a conclusion soon. That being said, I do still recommend this comic, even if it isnt a must-read. Feel free to give it a read if youre so inclined though. Read Full Review

Comic Crusaders - Kevin Given Jan 30, 2018

Superman and Booster Gold make an interesting team as the Last Son of Krypton is in no mood for future boy's sarcastic wit and antics. He's on a serious mission to find answers about his home world and the villains that survived it's destruction. The friction is there even as the two strive to work together. Lois successfully lands in Longamba and meets up with resistance leaders that are ready and willing to assist her. Superman is making quick work of his adversaries and seems to be succeeding in his goal when…to be continued. ***1/2 (8.8 rating) Read Full Review

Capeless Crusader - Jeremy Radick Jan 24, 2018

Writer Dan Jurgens' obvious ease and facility with both Superman and Booster Gold is the best part of the issue, with the writer effortlessly creating believable and enjoyable interpretations of the characters and their dynamic. That's a good thing, too, as there are other elements in the issue that feel fairly by-the-numbers and a b-plot that fails to pass scrutiny. Read Full Review

Comic Book Bin - Philip Schweier Jan 24, 2018

There have been rumors of the Watchmen characters being folded into the main DC Universe. Idrather they didnt, but I know Im in the minority. Regardless, I do hope that the fast approaching Action Comics #1,000 has the opportunity to stand alone, rather than become the setting for yet another over-hyped DC event. It would belike having your 50th birthday co-opted by your distant cousin's graduation. Read Full Review

Weird Science - Eric Shea Jan 24, 2018

While I haven't been the biggest fan of this arc, this issue does at least go into some interesting territory whether it matters or not in the long run because of the time travel aspect to this story.  Thankfully though, we don't have more of Booster's backstory forced in and get great art the entire way through.  Not the best issue, but definitely not the worst of this arc. We Have A Hulk - Nicola Austin Jan 27, 2018

Action Comics #996 is really stretching the time travel storyline to the limit, but I'm really enjoying the dynamics between team Superman and Booster Gold, their pairing really is a fun read! It's also pretty interesting to see Lor-Zod again regarding his and Superman's history, it'll be intriguing to see how this story plays out between the two of them. Oh and please tell me more about this war between Krypton and Earth! Read Full Review
