X OF SWORDS, PART 5
A secret flight. A long journey. A Thief and a Queen.
Rated T+
"X of Swords" continues to flow through the X-Men line, but as Marauders shows, never at the expense of the characters we've grown to love in their individual series. Read Full Review
Marauders #13 (@definitelyvita @MatteoLolli @delgaduck) tells an emotionally nuanced story that should have ramifications far beyond the scope of X of Swords. Read Full Review
Overall this chapter read like a love letter to Storm. Proving we need more of her in the X-books. This chapter is packed full of so many story elements and is so far one of the best chapters in the event. Read Full Review
By the end of the issue, it's quite clear Storm has a lot weighing on her mind and that doesn't even include the upcoming duel she must endure in Otherworld. Marauders #13 has a lot of story to tell that hits at the heart of the weight Storm carries and how her actions aren't to be taken lightly. There are many shades of Storm, and Marauders #13 shows just how awesome they all are. Read Full Review
Marauders #13 is the strongest chapter in the X of Swords crossover that we've gotten so far. Vita Ayala and Matteo Lolli did not disappoint in spotlighting Storm's journey to claim her sword as one of Krakoa's champions. Bringing in Wakanda as key to the story gave greater emotional weight to the decisions that Storm had to make. It all positioned Storm to be a powerful champion as X of Swords continues to develop. Overall, Marauders #13 did not let me down like I thought it might. Tie-ins can get messy, particularly when the event it is setting up for is still something you are waiting to be fully sold on. This could have been a waste of an issue, though pleasantly it turned out to be so much more. Issue #13 is the Storm issue you never thought you needed in the Dawn of X. Read Full Review
Storm heads to Wakanda to acquire the sword needed to fight against Arrako! Read Full Review
MARAUDERS #13 works...enough. There isn't a ton of action nor is it filled with too many surprises. But, it gets the job done moving the story forward. Read Full Review
Ororo heads back to Wakanda to get herself geared up for the crossover, but will the cost for this blade be too high? Read Full Review
Ugh. Despite being a well-made comic book, everything about the story and conflict in this issue is manufactured hot garbage serving no other purpose than just padding out the X of Swords runtime. Read Full Review
Another issue for X of Swords that I really enjoyed. I understand that this can get heavy with the dialogue and that might turn some people off, but I thought it was great. Lolli's art was hit-or-miss throughout this for me, but Ayala's writing was really good, in my opinion. I'm not sure why Ayala's here instead of Gerry Duggan, but I'm not complaining. I found myself really invested in the struggle between Ororo and Shuri and I thought it was built well over the course of the issue. We're not even halfway through the crossover yet and it already feels as though it's going to have a big influence on the future of Krakoa as a whole.
X of swords continues to be fantastic!
I'm glad Storm got a spotlight. This was a really good issue that didn't feel nearly as long as it was. I hope X of Swords maintains its quality next week.
More more more more x of swords please. Loved seeing storm take center stage. She hasn't done much really except in the Giant Size X-Men book and this one. Awesome to see her be able to hold her own and really show how powerful she is by just hammering through Wakanda. People think the Black Panther Storm relationship is weird, but I personally really like it, and I liked that Black Panther is written well here (something lacking in his own book, which is MIA). All the characters are well written as well. The art is fine, I'm not a big fan of Matteo Lolli, I feel like his faces look a little off. His art also lacks a lot of detail, it feels like the colorist and inker really carry the art. It's still fine though, and it's much bettermore
Man, this was something. I imagine there's gonna be hell to pay between Krakoa and Wakanda after X of Swords is over.
" If Krakoa falls, then the world falls."
- STORM
elaborate heist elaborate heist elaborate heist
For someone not reading the entirety of x of swords, I really enjoyed this More than I thought. Storm is my favorite xman and it was great to see her finally get her time to shine.
Plot armor is strong in this, but I’m glad to read Storm-centered issue
This was Storm's best showing in Dawn of X yet and one of the best and most meaningful issues of Marauders. Unfortunately, the actual setup for the story is severely lacking in logic and consistency with Ororo history and doesn't really make any sense.
The writer has a good handle on Storm’s voice and personality and depicts her as strong-willed, assertive, confident but still kind. Vita also seem to have a better understanding on Storm’s powers than Duggan ever did.
The most bloated chapter yet. This is a one-comic story stretched to the length of two comics, and that fact is a persistent anchor dragging almost every scene down. The entire plot's easily call-able by page 5, and Lord, reading that Shuri conversation feels like being stuck in detention.
That being said, it IS great to see Storm in butt-kicking protagonist mode. She's been relegated to wallpaper duty far too often, going back to well before the DoX era.
The big behind-the-scenes question: Was Gerry Duggan taken off this issue by higher powers, or did he recuse himself after getting a look at the assignment?
XOS Ch. 5: I honestly never liked Storm being connected to Black Panther. There are some nice moments of Storm being the badass she always naturally is, but sadly this is another weak entry in the X Of Swords saga. I'm a little worried this event (which started off so strongly) is already beginning to lose steam. Here's hoping it can bounce back!
What bad contrivance to motivate the heist. Also, Ororo's insistence in framing this as her saving Wakanda and the world was so silly.
It wasn't a terrible comic or anything. But I only bought this to follow the x of swords storyline. It was completely unnecessary for me to buy this. It could be summer up in ine sentence: Storm, against the wishes of Wakanda takes an ancient sword for the battle close at hand.
Pages of repetitive dialogue between Shuri and Storm that results in a predictable heist. The result is ruined relations with Wakanda all because she couldn't wait a couple of hours for her ex-husband to loan her a sword. Guess Nezhno isn't coming home anytime soon...
The story is too contrived. I liked the voice for ororo, but the whole set up was crap
Are we going to see a story about everyone getting their swords? Zzzz. That would be 10 solo issues. Hope not
I didn't like this a whole lot. Some good moments, but I was mostly bored by it.
Its only take a new writer and 13 issues to Storm finally get some attention
I liked Vita Ayala writing, but the ending is kinda bad
