THE PAST CAN STILL BURN YOU!
The Hellfire Gala may be over, but the flames of Hellfire past come licking at the heels of the Inner Circle...

I need more issues like Marauders #22 by Gerry Duggan. After a lukewarm #21, the creative team rebounded nicely and provided us with deep X-Cuts and an entire world of new possibilities. Check this issue out. If you are a fan of the Hellfire Club, Emma Frost, Gerry Duggan, OR the Marauders. This issue does not disappoint. Read Full Review
This book combines heavy subject matter (sometimes handled well, other times poorly) with a veritable visual feast and a little light narrative time-travel and produces a flavor that is, to say the least, incredibly complex. Read Full Review
Hopefully, Marauders #22 is a signal for what's to come for the series, portraying interesting dynamics and respecting characters' histories while adding onto them in meaningful ways. Read Full Review
Flashbacks and retcons swirl around uninteresting side-characters and I could not be more bored with Marauders' current focus. Read Full Review
It's a solid issue of Marauders, and while not my favorite issue of the run, it still held my attention. Read Full Review
Marauders returns to being basically stuck in place as the issue tries to tackle some very heavy and serious topics but does so in such a poorly dismissive way. The art team does great work with the mostly talking head issue they are presented with, including some old-school classic comic level energy with the issue's flashback. Read Full Review
for me was a good book, I like everything that surrounds this rotcon, many things are still in the air and maybe all of this deviated a bit, but it's fine for me.
This issue was a solid "9", as we learned the truth behind the whole Lourdes Chantel dead/not dead, allowing for Emma to gain one on, not just Shaw, but the entire Helllfire Club! The flashback sequences were handled ever so brilliantly by Klaus Janson, giving them just the right amount of nostalgia, without taking away from Matteo Lolli's art on the story in the present!
And, lest we forget poor Wilhelmina Kensington, the girl from the Homines Verendi. Thanks to the mental efforts of the Stepford Cuckoos, it would appear the young lady would be on the path to redemptive closure in regard to her _____ father (I can't up with an appropriate word to describe him! I have a great deal of disdain and dislike for molesters, esp. when more
"Sebastian. She's eligible for resurrection protocols...because she never die."
Emma Frost
In this issue old secrets are unraveled, Emma played to win and possibly paid a high price to protect a friend.
I don't know how to take this number, too many things on the plate. A justified deception, like Sleeping with the Enemy where Lourdes fakes her death with the help of Emma Frost.
Briefly, we discover a little more about the Kensington heiress, which can give us the explanation for her mental problems. What does not add up to me is the supposed regret, psychotatas need a long road to recovery, if they are already born psychopaths they will never be able to understand empathy, but they will be able to be functional.
An interesting book with complicated topics that sadly happen, abuse, patricide, etc. So far the most interesting installment in the series.
This has been the best book in a while, from my point of view. A solid retcon, well executed, on the other hand the art is excellent.
A controversial book and that is what I liked about this installment, Wilhelmina's background is chilling and many of the criminals are made, they are not born with some exceptions, I will not explain the cases because it would not end, but this is the world in which we live, crude and cruel for many.
A little rough, but I liked it.
I really can't remember the last time Marauders was about mutant pirates. Like, actually about mutant pirates. Maybe the first arc? I don't know, I just find it funny how many people here are pining for the original premise of this book (which they were probably complaining about when it was new). What has always been the selling point of this book, for me anyway, is the machinations of the Hellfire Trading Company and Emma Frost. We get that here, and it's good.
Interesting delivery that touches on a bit strong issues.
Stunning art and colors by Lolli and Beredo. Interesting retcon as well.
I liked the themes they touched but not the narrative, the art was beautiful. I think this could have gone better with a little care.
After everything at the Hellfire Gala, I'm feeling like there's too many cooks in the kitchen. I liked the flashback and artwork calling back to long ago, but I feel like these issues were built strictly for omnibus form sometimes. Especially with how these end up going in several directions.
The Cuckoos realize they need to do more meddling to fix junior psychopath Wilhemina Kensington, and Emma tells Sebastian Shaw the true story of Lourdes Chantal. There's not too much plot motion in the present, but the retcon-flashback is pretty impressive. Nice art and engaging foreshadowing make this a good comic and a fun read.
Too much information, this number can be defined as the delivery of battered women. Emma was great at concocting everything, but she doesn't cheat on Chales Xavian, and thus Emma having to break the news to Shaw about Lourdes.
Please don't make Wilhemina another Emma clone !!
If this is where Shaw starts to switch sides, this was worth it, otherwise the book has lost its pace for some time now.
A retcon that makes me wonder if Emma isn't doing the same with the Scarlet Witch. Obviously the circumstances are different, there is no abusive husband, just a lot of bad decisions that the Scarlet Witch made.
Marauders #22 further develops Wilhelmina's background (why does every female villain have to have a traumatic or sympathetic backstory?). Emma fans will especially love this issue as we see more of her past scheming involving Shaw's former wife. I'm still enjoying Marauders overall, but I'm hoping Duggan gets back to the high seas adventures soon. Sometimes it feels like he's not as interested in the initial premise of this book.
I am very disappointed in the editing. A character with one previous appearance, who says she is from Barcelona. In this issue, Emma says she's from Madrid. REALLY?
Lourdes is a teleporter. Why is she so afraid of just leaving? She can go anywhere.
As a self-contained story, it's ok. As an unnecessary retcon of a character who would be interesting to see in circulation again, it sucks.
I think we lost it, this number bored me. I am sorry.
Lots of uninterestings things and not enough of the team
Duggan's writing awful as always
Nice cover art.
Honestly I really wanted to like this issue. I want to continue loving Marauders.
But I just don't. There were stellar issues in the past, it is still one of my favorite mutant series but the series feels all over the place, and that is disappointing. It seems like there is really less and less consistency in the story arc - it is one thing one issue, another the next, and the threads are not really combined well. Also, at least half of the team is off duty each issue.
Would be nice to just have a "Mutant Pirates at sea" story again, which was the premise of the book, IIRC - or at least some consistency. Maybe I am overly critical today, but I am left disappointed more and more with Marauders, and I don't enjoy more
