Batman (2011) #33 |
Jul 24, 2014 |
Its clear Snyder is a writer capable of bringing new life to a seventy-five year old city as Batman reaches his anniversary this year. Hes successfully created a story that not only brings the mythology of Batman to the present, but also adds new energy to the city as he builds up his own version of Gotham. Hes managed to go from Secret City to Dark City to Savage City and keep it fine-tuned the whole way through. With a character full of iconic stories Snyder has successfully created a well-crafted story of his own with Zero Year. |

Batman (2011) #40 |
Apr 30, 2015 |
Snyder has said before that this is his last turn on a Joker story, and with the way this ended we should all be okay with that. He pits two rivalsupon one another in a way that shows how truly dependent they are on the other's stance in Gotham, and it's also one of the craziest and most detailed fights you've ever seen. |

Jan 21, 2015 |
The wait is finally over – and it was well worth it too! Issue #38 of Batman and Robin reminds us why Damien is one of the best Robins, if not the best Robin to ever patrol the streets of Gotham with the Dark Knight himself. But even as Robin is raring to go and drive fear into the scum of Gotham his father makes sureto remind him that he's the one “dressed to scare the bad guys”. |

Batman And Robin Eternal #6 |
Nov 12, 2015 |
This issue of Batman and Robin Eternal kicks off with some great action and delivers some chilling looks into the past. The artwork is impressive throughout out and Daniel gives fantastic representations of Batman along with his many allies. A scene towards the middle of this issue shows Batman in the middle of the two pages as the narration on either side breaks down what he knows about mother – it's here where we get the most hardboiled/noir type language in the issue. Daniel showcases Batman in the middle of the pages and determined, covered in the pouring rain, as lightning strikes in the background (it's going to be your new phone background pic). This issue is on fleek! (as the kids say). |

Batman And Robin Eternal #10 |
Dec 11, 2015 |
This issue of Batman and Robin Eternal hits all the right notes. Lanzing and Kelly craft a script that gives us just enough insight into the Batman/Robin story happening in the past, along with a touch of the story happening with Harper and Grayson, but they keep the bulk of the issue invested in the most interesting and action oriented story currently taking place in the seriesRed Robin and Red Hood! The artwork byRoge Antonio, Geraldo Borges, and Allen Passalaqua delivers some eye-popping visuals (especially in the Red Robin scene mentioned above). Pasalaqua uses colors well throughout the issue to createdifferent vibes depending on the characters and situations – with Batman and Grayson/Robin in the past we see Batman brooding in the dark cave, and with Red Hood and Red Robin we see a lot of bright backgrounds and colors as they traverse the island and fight off their attackers. This issue delivers the laughs, the action, and the shark spray! |

Batman And Robin Eternal #20 |
Feb 22, 2016 |
This issue raises the bar from issues prior. Seeley does a great job at pushing the story forward and pushing down our heroes into more chaos. ArtistsRoge Antonio and Geraldo Borges do a great job bringing the script to life and creating some hard-hitting scenes – both figuratively and quite literally (that incoming kick from Orphan looks like it's going to hurt!).The character reveal at the end is also a nice surprise and should prove to shake up the story even more! (We've been missing a level of smartass remarks that Red Hood just can't deliver quite as well as this newest addition to the series). Looking forward to the next issue of Batman and Robin Eternal! |

Batman: Eternal #11 |
Jun 18, 2014 |
Seeley scripts a great issue from the story by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV and is only pushed to greater heights by the artwork of Ian Bertram and Dave Stewart. The beginning scene tying up with the ending is a proper call back to the events in earlier issues, but does well to not disrupt Batgirl's story taking place. This time around Batman Eternal hits a high note, it rips doorsfrom their hinges, and throws scorpions (really…scorpions!) with a story that brings the funny and action all wrapped into a wonderfully drawn comic. |

Humor makes its way back into the series as Tim Seeley takes over on scripting. Humor isn't the only thing this issue is about, however, as we also get to see plenty of action from the former Bat-sidekicks. A great line from Grayson also reminds us who one of the most badass characters in this series is, “Cass. You're with me. Even off your rocker, you're one of the best fighters on the damn planet.” He says this in regards to Cass who is also being affected by Mother's mind-control and in need of the fear toxin. Even while facing her greatest fears right in front of her Grayson still knows she's capable of great things, that's pretty awesome. The artwork on this issue also hit a lot of high notes as we experience some brutal fight scenes and some psychedelic panels. Soooo many punches being thrownthis issue, and a pretty epic head-butt via Cass don't pick a fight with her. |

This week Tynion gave us some humor along with some big moments (drama!) to the ongoing story. He touched base mostly on the affairs regarding Batman and his allies, showing us that coming together and trusting one another is going to be an important piece of the story. A brief recap on the state of Harpers training also serves as a quick reminder to readers that shell be joining the bat-family soon enough. |

This week brought a few scenes to a close weve seen in recent issues. Batgirl has been having the most trouble and deals with things her own way, and showing a similar desire to save the one you love Killer Croc takes things to the extreme perhaps something Batgirl might have done if not for the appearance of a friend. |

Batman: Eternal #30 |
Oct 30, 2014 |
This week Ray Fawkes takes over scripting duty for the story by both Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV. A lot of this issue has Batman talking with Penny-Two as he traverses the destruction happening around Gotham. Keeping up with all the chaos isn't something one man can do however, and some of the destruction is on such a grand scale I don't think anyone could have prevented it. Fawkes keeps a serious tone throughout the issue, and even gives some dark elements to sections of the text " the part with Batwing during the devastation, won't give away anything, but wow! |

On the artwork side of this issue is Jason Fabok as the artist and Brad Anderson on colors. Anderson comes in and compliments Fabok's artwork in a great way (both are quite detailed). |

Dark Knight III: The Master Race #1 |
Nov 27, 2015 |
Dark Knight III: The Master Race #1 gives the same type of gritty story you've seen previously in DKR and Strikes Again. This is a Gotham in total despair, a Gotham where the cops and villains are hard to tell apart. This is the type of Gotham that truly needs a Batman. Miller and Azzarello are able to once again create a world in despair for the Dark Knight to conquer, all while adding a modern spin on the tale. The artwork by Kubert, Janson, and Anderson is reminiscent of what we've seen before in the series, but definitely splashes in the colors when needed (a chase scene involving cops from the beginning of the issue shows the panels soaked in bright read and blue). Overall, you're going to want to get yourself a copy of this story. Looks like it's going to be a fun ride (in the Batmobile?!) |

The artwork this issue keeps a steady flow of talent despite the difference in styles from one artist to the next, none of which seem stifling as you turn the page (which can sometimes be the case when issues jump around so often with the artwork). The man they grew up admiring seems to have told them to stop their crusade, and the person helping them push forward remains a mystery to them. Batman And Robin Eternal #5 |
Nov 5, 2015 |
This issue tackled various story lines, all following some version of a Batman sidekick (even though Bluebird hasn't technically had the honor of being Batman's child soldier yet) with some things explained well and others left to the “just because” scenario (Bluebird tries to explain why she decided to follow, but it's not a realistic explanation). There's plenty of action this issue, but it falls short of the humor that was fused with issues prior. |

Batman And Robin Eternal #12 |
Dec 30, 2015 |
Issue #12 of Batman and Robin Eternal gives us Grayson's take on what Bluebird saw happened in the past last issue. Though this issue offers a lot of the drama it misses out on some of the humor we've been able to see in other issues – most of that humor comes from Tim Drake and Jason Todd, which were both absent this issue. Bluebird is mostly absent during the issue, but appears again at the end giving us a bit of a lighthearted spin on the otherwise grim tale of the past as told by Brisson. The artwork this issue delivered some great scenes as both Pina and Sudzuka worked well to create an issue with fluent work, all made the better by the colors of Rauch. |

Issue #18 of Batman and Robin Eternaldoes well to expand on the story of Mother, both the past and present versions of it, but once again leaves the story void of the humor that's made issues before so much more enjoyable. Each character is handling the events in their own way, some of them cracking under the pressure, some staying quiet (Red Hood!). The artwork delivers the punches, but falls short when it comes to some of the facial expressions and appearances of the characters. |
