Bit and PiecesI can't say enough good things about this series, and I'm looking forward to see what Marvel can do with Daniel Warren Johnson next. Beta Ray Bill is the best thing I've read in years, and the entire creative team should be proud. Read Full Review
This has been a breath of fresh air in the world of stuffy Marvel comics, normally crammed with multiple plot points and devices. A simple quest plot with a limited entourage has helped the title keep the reader's interest. The balance of humanity and humour was pitch-perfect leaving me feeling satisfied and not complaining about lost plots or nonsensical characters. Read Full Review
Beta Ray Bill is the superhero comic of the year, by far. This series has been great from start to this finish, ending with the sort of final battle that other comics and movies wish they could pull off. Read Full Review
This is a pretty complete story. Johnston is the real deal and nails this story perfectly. He is very talented. I can't wait to see what he creates next. I will certainly be there for it. Read Full Review
Beta Ray Bill #5 is a glorious finale filled with wrestling holds, airbrush on the side of your van-worthy splashes, and some heart and friendship too as Bill's quest comes to a satisfying close. Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer helped me fall in love with a character that I wasn't super familiar with and also demonstrate how sound effects and the use of color can help turn a fight scene into a story. I look forward to their next project, Marvel or otherwise. Read Full Review
If there is no more to come in this story, Beta Ray Bill will remain an outstanding piece of spectacle with some of the best pages produced at Marvel Comics in 2021. However, readers will likely be left hoping Johnson plans to continue Beta Ray's story as issue #5 ends with an interlude rather than a conclusion. Read Full Review
Beta Ray Bill #5 ends in such a way that you'll be dying to know what character Daniel Warren Johnson will tackle next. The impact of Johnson's art and take on this character -- and Wonder Woman last year -- is resoundingly obvious. This ending certainly is fitting and satisfying in its own right, but Johnson leaves the character in a place where much more could be told. For that reason, this is a great finale, especially if you like beat 'em up action. Read Full Review
It's not going to be to everyone's liking, but it's a very specific, very stylized kind of comic that we don't get a lot of in the Marvel Universe. Read Full Review
This, and the rest of the miniseries, absolutely rocked. Bill hitting Surtur with Made in Japan through a giant spike was a truly incredible thing to see. Throughout this book, Johnson has proved he does well at pacing and balancing different tones. The action here was great, with some truly awesome splash pages, but even just the talking and emotion of this book hit just as hard, if not even harder. Bill may have been able to "fix" himself physically, but his emotional scars are far from healed and they will continue to stay deep within him.
Arte e espetacular e roteiro previsível desde a primeira edição. O que não impediu o gibi de me deixar sem folego nas cenas de ação.
The best from Marvel in years.
Probably the best way to end this particular character story. Bill finds not just what he wants with the Blade of Twilight but gets to confront what brought him there in the first place. Surtur is like a living reminder of everything Bill lost; his original appearance, his family, and by extension his original weapon that was like a symbol of self-worth. So seeing Bill get some cathartic payback on Surtur is a sight to behold. Especially since his struggles seem so believable and the friends he has put so much on the line to help him out. Skurge in particular finds what he wants in one last hurrah where Scuttlebutt does something so ridiculous, readers can't help but look in awe as Skurge weeps a bit at it. Which is why it's so tragic to semore
Solid mini-series! Anyone should check this out!
Bill defeats Surtur with timely assists from his friends. It's a pretty straightforward wham-bam finale, illustrated with great skill and passion. It's an electric guitar solo of a climax. The final scenes sketch in a few hints of melancholy around Bill's victory, hinting at second thoughts and unintended consequences. Being ambiguous about feelings isn't inherently bad, but I personally would have liked to finish with some more concrete character insights. Still, it's a hard-rocking end to a fun series. The creator's intentions have been clear and consistent throughout, and I think he was pretty dang successful in expressing them.
Yea. This was good. Its ended nicely and really solidified this as an overall great series. Ive said it before, its serious, goofy, action packed and has just comic book fun with what its doing.
This was a good ending, and I thought the art was cool. I wasn't really quite as invested in the writing, but it was quick.
This was nice in the end and I'm getting used to this guy's art.
