All in all, X Many Lives Of Wolverine #1 is an outstanding first issue to the newest chapter in the Krakoa saga. Percy and Cassara make a great team, and they knock this one out of the park. Theres not a ton of substance, but it gets right down in it, letting the events tell the story instead of getting too wordy. Its an exciting, fast-paced comic. Read Full Review
Overall, Percy nails this first chapter of Wolverine's newest saga. Where it goes from here, I have no clue. But what I do know is the journey, and the death toll, should be wildly entertaining. Read Full Review
Percy and Cassara provide a much-needed kick in the $&$ to this new X-MEN era of comics. INFERNO closed the Jonathan Hickman chapter of X-MEN while X LIVES OF WOLVERINE begins the next official phase. And just like HOXPOX offered a fresh start, my hope is X LIVES OF WOLVERINE can do the same. Why? X-MEN comics as a whole throughout the Hickman era were certainly above average but lacked direction and began diverging farther and farther from one another. Writers began telling their own stories and they lost their conductivity. My hope is writers like Percy and Duggan (who were by far the best writers of the Hickman X-MEN era) can bring this all back together as one large tapestry, which is what we all thought it was going to be when HOXPOX began. X Lives of Wolverine #1should comfort X-readers unsure of the future of the X-line while also bring in those who felt the X-books eschewed more traditional super-heroics in recent years. It's an excellent first issue, promising an exciting Wolverine adventure that honors the character's history while giving him fresh vitality for the X-Men era to come. Read Full Review
Based on the first issue, X Lives of Wolverine isn't going to set the mutant world on fire the way HoX/PoX did, but it is easily Percy's most ambitious story to date, and this is a stellar start. Read Full Review
X LIVES OF WOLVERINE #1 hits the ground running with claws out in the biggest event of Wolverines lifetime and thats saying something. Get ready, bub, as Benjamin Percy continues to cement his place as THE definitive Wolverine writer! Read Full Review
The next stage of the X-Men's Krakoan Age begins as Wolverine takes center stage on a journey through time to protect a mutant that has a major part in how far mutant-kind has come. It's a very Wolverine-like story, one's mileage will vary with that, that has some intriguing components that could make it work as a bigger X-Men story as it continues. Read Full Review
While X Lives of Wolverine #1 is an entertaining debut, it fails to establish this series as the next must-read event in the Krakoa era. Read Full Review
Leaving readers with more questions than answers, X Lives of Wolverine #1 feels like more of a big jumbled fight than the start of an event thats going to really matter. But we shall see. Read Full Review
Light on exposition, but high on action. This comic hits you with the action quickly, with all that you'd expect from a comic with Wolverine and Omega Red, while starting a trip into Wolverine's history. Read Full Review
Even though Percy did seed Omega Red's anger against Krakoa in previous issues of X-Force, the character works as a B or C-plot not the centerpiece of an event. Joshua Cassara stages the fight between Wolverine, a badass Mrs. Xavier, and the Omegas in a compelling way with gritty colors from Frank Martin, but it feels like a generic video game fight. With the appearance of Rasputin and the presence of Jean Grey, the upcoming timeline hops might have better stakes, but honestly after 40 pages of this, I'm not sticking around every week to see if they do. Since I was a kid wolverine has always been my favorite. I read and collect every issue of wolverine and the X-Men. There have been some epic stories and this definitely feels like it's going to be exactly that! I had a lot of confidence in this as I absolutely love how Benjamin Percy writes wolverine. It's a great time to be a wolverine fan I can't wait for the next issue
I have very little idea what's going on here, but I am thoroughly enjoying it nonetheless. Stellar artwork from Josh Cassara too.
This was very good. I liked the pacing and the story seems interesting.
SNIKT! (I would have liked more plot btw)
Yes, THIS has my attention.
I really enjoyed this first issue.
The opening round of what looks to be a cross-time duel between Wolverine and Omega Red, with the battleground being Xavier's personal history. I like the way this first chapter yeets us into the media res, but the clues about the larger context are already starting to fit together without a lot of hand-holding exposition. Another big plus is that the art is insanely beautiful. The creators had best be careful; a start this finely-tuned and stylish is gonna kick my expectations up into the stratosphere.
The X-Men love their time travel almost as much as Wolverine loves awkward poetry. The surfing story was a low point, and while the clock talk was eye-rolling, it was definitely a step up. Overall, I liked this story and the unique approach Percy is taking. I would consider this a safe start to what could be a very complicated story.
My opinion of Percy's Wolverine run was that he seems to get the character but he didn't have any fresh ideas to bring forth. This one is a somewhat fresh and interesting idea. I liked this, I hope it gets even better from here. There are some seeds thrown here regarding the main plot but sometimes you just need a little Snikt! to enjoy a Wolverine book and this qualifies.
A pretty solid start here. Cassara's interior art is definitely the highlight of this, as he's such a perfect fit for Wolverine, but Percy's story is intriguing as well. I think this could have come together a little smoother, but I also understand that, as a first issue, this has to introduce multiple different things for the other four issues to come. Either way, this has a lot of potential, as Wolverine fighting Omega Red through time to save Professor X is a fun premise, and hopefully it only improves from here.
I love Omega Red. And having a storyline that involves him time-hopping through Wolverines life is a cool concept. The first issue didn't blow me away, but you can see the foundations of a great story to come.
This story is Percy following up on his X-Force and Wolverine runs so if you're loving those then boy this is for you! Me, I gave up on wolverine early on and X-force after 25 issues. So this story builds on them and tries to give you something to get your attention going forward. But It's just not enough. I will stick with it for now because it's weekly so the narrative shouldn't take a hit from a monthly release. But the next phase of the Krakoan age post Hickman is sadly off to a rocky start. HOX/POX was such a great story that I feel like I can never be satisfied unless those threads are weaved in here and in Destiny of X. Otherwise I'm out. Nobody has 3 or 5 years to slowly churn something that the original creator didn't want to play more
We're off to a solid start here with an action-packed issue that's light on actual plot, but really well illustrated by Josh Cassara. His artwork always has a great visceral quality to it that's perfect for a Wolverine book. Percy story is a little all over the place (I think intentionally), but he's got a strong voice for Logan and when he locks in on the character moments it really works.
I was anxious to read this, but unfortunately, like all of the xbooks for the past several years, it just really wasn't worth reading.
