There are those that defend Bendis all over the place North American Michael Bendis literary apologist are all over the place.

I haven't seen them here very much, Bendis is getting trashed here and there isn't this kind of visceral reaction I see from the Two Toms apologists, where they go out of their way to insult people who don't like their idols' writings. Why is the message "I don't like it and I want to say it" so difficult for these people to grasp?

Even when I rate their comics highly and I just have the audacity to add a bit of critique in my reviews, they always screech like maniacs. It's not happening with any other writer besides these two.

Bendis has almost buried JL as he did Superman. I've tried reading his current output and it's almost painful to read. The dialogue the poor characterization the utterly forgettable villains. His sole purpose on JL seems to to push Naomi as a property and that's it. As much as I detest the writing of king Ridley Tynion and Taylor Bendis is almost unreadable.

Oh Bendis is unreadable, I'm not saying otherwise. I'm just saying that his fans aren't that rabid, at least not here. His run on Superman was awful, his Young Justice was awful, his Legion was terrible and he made me drop Justice League. His career at DC is a shipwreck.

The only comic Ive ever hated was Rob Liefields, Hawk and Dove from new 52, and it wasnt because of his art. Only trade paperback Ive ever ripped up, couldnt stand to keep it in my collection. This was when I first started reading comics, I hadnt even known he was famous in the 90s.

Even Bendis is a God compared to that idiot.

No. This story is a ripoff of True Grit, and instead of adapting the story to the character, Tom King just let the Rooster Cogburn character remain and put it in a Supergirl suit.

It's about passion for the character. It's not surprising. If Batman would become the opposite of what he was or Superman in the main continuity would, this small upset would seem like a match compared to the hellfire that would rise. Have main continuity Superman under no influence of Kryptonite get shitfaced at a bar, start a fight and go out and puke and the outrage would be on the front page of magazines. This is Kara's fanbase saying no. Tell me you would say the same if this was Kal.

It would never happen though. DC recalled a magazine for Kal just holding a beer once. DC:s double standard on how they treat Supergirl and Superman is appalling, but people who don't care much about the character never notice.

That double standard does not only go for DC though. If Kal had been drinking and fighting and puking you can bet this would have been reflected in the reviewer scores for breaking character. When it comes to Kara though barely a handful of the "professional" reviewers weigh it in their score. Kudos to those who do. There should have been more of them.

She didnt start a fight, she protected a girl who was attacked and robbed. Alcohol is not only bad people, its common for all types of people to celebrate with it. To have kara wait till she is 21 goes to show what a girlscout she actually is, and you can obviously tell... this is her first time. Im just fine with this being a depiction of 21 year old kara myself.

I'll keep writing these reviews and I'll always speak my mind. If King writes a good book, you can be damn sure I'll give it a high rating, if you check Rorschach there were a few issues that I really liked and rated pretty high.

Tom King was literally pulled off Batman 15 issues short. Even the fan dead DC saw he was tanking the flagship title. I had zero interest in his consolation prize BatmanCatwoman which as I expected is the same standard of lazy garbage he did with Batman. He seems to fare a little better reader wise with second and third tier characters like mister miracle but I dont care. He succeeded in stopping from buying my favorite book for nearly 85 issues and his writing stinks on ice.

Yeah ok art is subjective but I don't even give King that leeway for what he did to batman.

I'm glad you made the Bendis comparison because I've caught him too many times doing that "This is how real people talk" schtick that Bendis tries to do but these days fails at terribly. He's not as bad as Bendis in this department but there were moments in his Batman run where he came REALLY close and yes folks, some people still take a chance on a new Tom King #1 even when they historically hate him.

I actually really, really liked his run up until #50. I though he brought a lot of very interesting ideas that Batman desperately needed at that time. That's what these people don't get, I don't "hate" Tom King, I'll praise him when he writes a good book, I'm not petty like that.

But after the second half of his Batman run, after Heroes in Crisis, after Batman/Catwoman, after Strange Adventures I started to notice that no matter how badly he writes there are always going to be a lot of people who're going to praise him even when his writing is atrocious. And they're always rating his stupid shit with 10 like it's a masterpiece. It's a disgrace.

If on the cover of this book it would be the name of, I don't know, say, Robert Venditti? No one would care about this and the rating would be very, very low. But since it's King let's all pretend this is Watchmen or something. And yeah, I also agree about Supergirl and Batgirl, DC continues to screw these characters by giving them only to bad writers. Which is a shame because along with Wonder Woman, they're the best female superheroes DC has.
