Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield Apr 2, 2025

This feels like it's going to be one of the darkest books in the line, which is a very big change for the Green Lantern line, and it's absolutely one of the most ambitious as it brings truly unpredictable cosmic forces to Earth. Read Full Review

Having read an advance copy of Absolute Green Lantern #1, I can say that I'm ALL IN for another title with DC. Just like the other Absolute titles, this series latches onto the assumption that these characters can still exist with engaging narratives even if some of their key attributes are stripped away. Unlike other reboots or alternate takes from years past, this iteration isn't beholden to everything that has come before. With decades of history, it can be a lot for readers to keep up with. Absolute Green Lantern is a character study done right, with a story that captures the essence of everything that makes these heroes compelling. We've never seen a Green Lantern story like this, and just like the other titles in this line, it feels like a story that is going to resonate with readers. Make sure you add this book to your pull list. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Chad Burdette Apr 2, 2025

Absolute Green Lantern #1 is a strong start to this new Absolute title, while lacking in the ring-slinging action expected from a Green Lantern title, does do a good job establishing the new status quo for the character in the Absolute Universe. Read Full Review

Al Ewing and Jahnoy Lindsay's Absolute Green Lantern #1 is a bold, cosmic reimagining of the Green Lantern Corps that explores a suspenseful, alien-horror story with anime-influenced action. Despite some initial pacing issues, the issue excels with Jahnoy Lindsay's expressive, anime-inspired artwork and a startling, universe-redefining beginning. Read Full Review

Graphic Policy - Brant Lewis Apr 3, 2025

Focusing more on the slow-building tone of dread and the questions that will be explored in the series, Absolute Green Lantern #1 provides a starkly different take on cosmic mythology. Hopefully, Jo's character gets explored as much as Hal's in the next issue. Overall, Absolute Green Lantern #1 forces us to look at the dark corners of space with a terrified expression as we await what terror might land on Earth. Read Full Review

Absolute Green Lantern #1 is a bold reset that pulls Hal Jordan into a darker, more introspective narrative. Al Ewing brings psychological depth and a cosmic sense of dread that separates this from past runs, offering a fresh yet faithful new beginning. It's not an issue that gives everything awayfar from itbut that's part of the appeal. Combined with haunting artwork and an immersive tone, this feels like the start of something very different in the best way. Read Full Review

Get Your Comic On - Christopher Mills Apr 2, 2025

It's a solid start to Absolute Green Lantern, with roles being reversed and a mystery being brought into the fray of things, which seems to be a common factor with a few of these Absolute titles. If the next few issues can give us details on what took place in Evergreen, Nevada, then I believe this will easily be an Absolute title that stays a favourite. Read Full Review

Super Hero Hype - Matt Morrison Mar 28, 2025

The only real flaw in Absolute Green Lantern #1 lies in its marketing. The story builds to a shocking twist that would be far more shocking if it weren't telegraphed by most of the variant covers. Go in blind, however, and you may see the light and enjoy a new view on a classic concept. Read Full Review

    Henchman-4-Hire - Sean Ian Mills Apr 5, 2025

While this is the solid start to a story, I don't think it really nails into any core aspects of the Green Lantern mythos in this first issue, which is what I've come to expect from Absolute so far. Read Full Review

Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez Apr 3, 2025

Absolute Green Lantern #1is a decent start to a reimagined type of Green Lantern mythology. Al Ewing's twist on humans granted energy power feels like something out of a sci-fi horror story, and Jahnoy Lindsay's art captures the spirit of fear and mystery perfectly. That said, Al Ewing's script skips the basics of setting up a story and relies on curiosity and teasing to hook the reader. For some readers, that may be enough. For many other readers, it's not. Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez Apr 2, 2025

Absolute Green Lantern #1 shows potential but ends up faltering with how quickly the whole hook of this story is spoiled early on. The structure of how the story unfolds leaves a lot to be desired as Hal Jordan dominates to much of this issue. While this debut is a swing and miss there is some hope created that Al Ewing and Jahnoy Lindsay will connect better in future issues. Read Full Review

This is the Green Lantern book I've been waiting for. I love the Lanterns but on the main earth it's just gotten way too complicated. It's why I really like the Absolute versions of the characters. I think this is my favorite of the newest 3, The Flash, Martian Manhunter, & Green Lantern. I can't afford to collect all 6 of the absolute titles, I'm going to have to pick 3. This will be one of them.

I think Al Ewing is a great choice for this story. I love that it feels very horror/sci fi. I really dig the beginning of the story. Al had me hooked from the first page. The art by Jahnoy Lnsday is equally great. This is a great team, and I hope they stick around. I can't wait to see where it goes!

Was super excited to see Ewing attached to a Green Lantern title, and he definitely delivered. Linsday is an artist I haven't really seen a whole lot of, but I like his work here. I particularly think he does a fantastic job of showing the fear in Hal's eyes, with his interaction with the cop at the beginning being when I first noticed it. I know that, after this was announced, Ewing mentioned this would be more horror-based. With what I saw from Lindsay here, I think he can prove himself to be a great choice for this book. Aside from the art, the story was really well-paced and super interesting, in my opinion. Really looking forward to what comes next from this side of the Absolute Universe.

wow..... just wow. The art not only floored me, but I love this twisted horror green lantern concept. This take was done in Earth One Green Lantern, but this series has a different spin on it. Al Ewing's writing may not be my cup of tea, but I can't deny he's a good writer.

Overall, as a DC Fanboy, I am very pleased with the Absolute Universe. DC Comics is just firing on all cylinders on all the series.

Another fantastic Absolute debut issue. This one takes what we know about the DCU GL mythos and completely flips it on its head, starting with a very ominous prologue involving Hal Jordan, followed by what appears to be a horrific and mysterious cosmic disaster that strikes an American city. Without giving away spoilers, it seems like the characters we knew to be heroes may not all be in this universe, and the story calls into question whether the power of the lantern is benevolent…or something darker. Kudos to this creative team for crafting a story that keeps us guessing, and a big middle finger to DC for how this book was marketed. My fellow readers will understand what that means exactly.

I assume this whole story will set up a more appropriate introduction of our hero. Great villains make for great heroes as they say. What’s disappointing is I don’t get to enjoy seeing our Green Lantern in action like previous Absolute heroes.

Although the Absolute series is a reboot of classic DC origin stories, each retelling features a hero well versed in their abilities and overall mission. Al Ewing, on the other hand, submits a story that does not showcase our hero at all. A decision that deftly avoids any critique of her abilities.

Is this a ploy to diffuse DEI rhetoric? Possibly. I’m willing to give Ewing the benefit of the doubt. However, he has a lot to prove with issue 2.

i see a lot of people saying how much this reminds them of Immortal hulk and i get it, i mean it does come close to the things we associate with Hulk, but surprisingly i feel like there is a lot of manga influence here, in the drama of it, the tension and just overall the visual language. The building up of anxiety, the fast pace, and the gradation of it, plus the suggestiveness of art and especially the colors, make those moments really really innerving and all-consuming.

It's a comic that is a lot clearer than some of the other titles of the Absolute line, a lot more tried, and it does not feel as fresh in its structure. I praised the fast pace, but at times it comes at a cost of introducing stuff more naturally, so it feels o more

Its just ok, I guess. Nothing really pops out art wise nor it tells an exciting story. As a GL reader I imagen you're bias, but as a first reader... this is nothing special... at all...

Compared to what the other absolute series achieved in their first issue, this is the weakest start of them all. I'll stick around and I hope it will only goes up from here on.

This should have and could have been really good but for some reason it felt flat. To be honest alot of the art was underwhelming and nothing really was there to drive a fast paced space story. Hopefully this will all be ironed out in a issue or two and I'm hopeful that eventually it will be awesome.....JM

While the Absolute line garners critical and fan acclaim, I believe its focus on dark reimaginings of DC's vibrant heroes squanders significant creative talent. The Absolute Batman series succeeds because the character inherently lends itself to darker narratives.

This Absolute Green Lantern iteration is unsuccessful. The characterizations of the main characters feel significantly misaligned. I strongly dislike the blending of Green Lantern mythology with horror. I'm finished with this series.

DC should have known better than constantly making Hal a pathetic villain while price gouging his variant covers to make money.
