not true, he gives pretty much every Transformers issue really high scores and the same with absolute Batman, he just has really high standards.
THE SHOCKING ORIGIN OF DIANA'S DEADLY WEAPONS! Diana defied the will of the gods in leaving Hell, and Hades, lord of the underworld, takes that personally...but when he interrogates her, her tales surprise him. Will it change her fate? Kicking off a two-part guest arc from the breakout artist of The Cull, Mattia De Iulis--and featuring a surprising and delightful backup tale of Li'l Diana by series writer Kelly Thompson and superstar artist Dustin Nguyen!
This book is really special and DC needs to do everything possible to keep Thompson on board and avoid the temptation to rush into crossovers or big Absolute Universe events. Absolute Wonder Woman doesn't need any super friends. Not when she's got these super creators crafting her adventures. Read Full Review
And the issue ends with a couple of one-page comics that Thompson wrote involving a young Diana that feel...they almost feel pulled out of a parallel dimension where lil Diana might have been on the comic strip page next to Dennis the Menace. Its sharply clever stuff that hits all of the right beats to be a single-joke strip in an era long after that sort of thing has become fashionable. Its a fun ending to a very fun issue. Whenever a guest artist comes on board, it's always a risk that the series will lose its momentum especially when the regular artist is as incredibly distinct as Hayden Sherman. But Kelly Thompson has worked with Mattia De Iulis before, and the two put together an incredibly surreal book with photo-realistic art. Read Full Review
Absolute Wonder Woman #6 takes us into Diana's past trials and shows how strong of a warrior she is. The back and forth she has with Hades sets the stage for a big battle looming on the horizon. This team is crushing this issue and I am ready for battle! Read Full Review
Equally enjoyable is the short story Li'l Diana, where we see a young Diana learning the magic of transformation from her adoptive mother, Circe. Also written by Kelly Thompson, this story offers a refreshing bit of light relief after the edgier main plot. Read Full Review
Absolute Wonder Woman #6 is a fantastic kickoff to a two-issue interim story arc that delivers some of the best art in comics today. Read Full Review
The opening pages of Absolute Wonder Woman #6 does some of the best work to put over how badass a superhero can be. Read Full Review
Even with a new artist and a new story, Absolute Wonder Woman doesn't miss a beat in telling large scale, deeply personal stories. Read Full Review
Absolute Wonder Woman Issue 6 is the stuff of legend. Hayden Shermans art in the first arc was terrific and perfect for introducing the character. But De Iulus turned the story into a mesmerizing fantasy brought to life. Read Full Review
Absolute Wonder Woman #6 is a gorgeous arc opener, but carries a few problems that hold it back. Despite those problems, Thompson, De Iulis, and Nyguen power through it to deliver a solid issue. Read Full Review
Absolute Wonder Woman #6 delves into the origins of Diana's lethal arsenal, revealing the secrets behind her Nemesis Lasso as she faces Hades after escaping the underworld. While the plot's pacing feels slightly uneven with a seemingly unnecessary Basilisk encounter, Kelly Thompson's character work on Diana and Mattia De Iulis' stunning artwork, particularly in portraying Diana's strength and Hades' unique personality, remain highlights. Absolute Wonder Woman #6 opens up the series' second story arc with impressive visual flare from guest-artist Mattia De Iulis. The sheer beauty of the realism-inspired artwork is breathtaking to behold. All whilst Diana is being setup to face an incredibly personal battle ahead. Read Full Review
Absolute Wonder Woman #6begins the long story of explaining how Diana obtained her special weapons and escaped Hell when Hades calls her to account. Kelly Thompson's script has the right concept and ideas, but the overwritten, ponderous dialog slows the issue to a crawl. Conversely, Mattia De Iulis's exquisite art makes this series look ten times better. Read Full Review
The moment you find yourself applauding after finishing an issue... that's when you know it's a solid 10. Everything about it is top-notch, and the thought of waiting another month is unbearable.
While we have a new artist on board for this issue, after just a few pages, the transition felt as smooth as a fine single malt whisky."
Why the hell is this site still including reviews by Gabe Hernandez?
The guy literally gives EVERY single comic a low score. He single handidly is bringing down the averages of several great series on this site. His reviews read like rage bait in order to drive up hits on his page.
The guy is a hack, and this site loses credibility by including his reviews.
PS This issue is a 10.
Perfect.
Continues to be brilliant, even under a guest artist. De Iulis makes the mythology feel huge and epic in scope.
The change of the interior art from Hayden Sherman to Mattia de Iulis was a little jarring, but it fits with this story, in my opinion, and Iulis is absolutely fantastic. So, I can't really complain that much. Aside from that, this was a well-written first half and I'm looking forward to more.
Best issue of Absolute Wonder Woman by long shot. Mattia de lulus needs to take over for Hayden Sherman. His artwork is more engaging than Sherman’s cartoonish style.
Gorgeous fill-in art and a dramatic change of setting, combined with a thrilling flashback and origin story for Pegasus, keeps this book riding high once again!
Absolute Wonder Woman continues to floor me and be the best series out of the Absolute line-up. I also really love the art for Mattia del Luis, I will have to check it out. It is so beautiful.
James Gunn, all you need to do is base DCU Wonder Woman on this, and I guarantee you everyone will love it even more than Gal Gadot's version. This Wonder Woman is so based because she has a likable interesting personality with dialogue that is engaging, and her lore/backstory is so interesting. I am going to re-read her entire series back to back because of this issue.
The art here is a definite step up. I'm just not a fan of Hayden Sherman's art. I'm also not a fan of the design for Hades. A blue glob just doesn't match the character. We already had the origin story of the lasso and now we get a second one. She also has two more lassos according to this issue. It feels like a completely different person wrote this one. I do like the ending, but I wish there was more story to this issue and not a rehash. Feels like a waste of the incredible art.
