Honestly, the simple fact of the matter is, I'm not exactly the target demo for Thanos. I'll be even more honest and say I haven't clicked with any of the Mad Titan's previous series. But Cates and Shaw have the goods here, and this first issue shows that maybe Marvel wasn't crazy for giving this guy an exclusive right out of the gate. If you're looking for a wild dive into Marvel continuity that shows there's still plenty of kick to the House of Ideas, look no further than Thanos. Read Full Review
Thanos is one of the most badass characters in existence and the creative team does him justice here. Read Full Review
"Thanos" #13 is a very strong debut issue by the same team of "God Country": the main character is spot-on and the art delivers on the sheer scale of his adventures. Curious to see how Cates takes the setting and timing to interesting places, without becoming inconsequential. Read Full Review
A great start to a story where we will get to see the Thanos we wanted to see all along. This is the mad titan in all his power-hungry glory. And I can't wait to see what happens next when his future self and Thanos interact. Read Full Review
Continuing its tone, characterization, and journey for Thanos to reclaim who he once was. There is no need to worry about Donny Cates as he is clearly the right man to keep paving this road for Thanos to become great again. Read Full Review
Where Thanos was a decent (if flawed) addition to the Marvel library in its first year, the series is now on track to become one of Marvel's most exciting titles. Cates and Shaw once again prove themselves a talented creative team, and Marvel made a wise decision by keeping the two together as they make the jump from the creator-owned world to the Marvel Universe. The creative team here really came out swinging and delivered on every front. Thanos is a book that nobody knew they needed, it's now a staple of cosmic Marvel and a must-read title. Read Full Review
All in all, Thanos #13 is a tremendously fun start to a new arc and creative teams story. It will be a lot of fun to see exactly how it progresses over time. Read Full Review
Thanos #13 is an intriguing read. The promise of the storys name is enticing. Our beloved Mad Titan is the walking massacre that he should be. The art is great. While it doesnt bring us any especially deliciously vile moments of savagery, it certainly caught my attention. What do you have for us next, Mr. Cates? Read Full Review
Holly Shit! Donny Cates who the Hell are you?? Just kidding. Donny Cates once again does what he did in the God Country series, well...made everything god-like. Marvel hired the perfect guy for this series. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Freaking cool art by Geoff Shaw and awesome reveal at the end. MIND. BLOWN.
#THIS IS HOW MARVEL COMICS SHOULD BE AND FEEL LIKE!
Brilliant!
Great first issue. I usually groan and suffer through time-travel stories. However, this one shows alot of promise.
Cates reminds me of Hickman: Well-written, great ideas, and a good dose of humor.
Donny Cates grabs his chance to turn a status quo from marvel into a fresh start.
His delivers on the attitude that you would expect from Thanos.
Great arc with a lot of surprises! Marvel's best first issue in a long time (well, since Vision)
I really liked Thanos from the great team of Image's smash hit "God Country" with Cates amazing writing with Shaw's equally awesome art. Not knowing too much about Thanos, Cates excellent writing made this story flow and with Shaw's excellent art the story was real good and I can't wait to see where Cates and Shaw take the awesome Thanos. This was all around fun what a comic of this character should be like. Bravo Cates again on another great story.
Wow! Cates and Shaw knocked it out of here.
This is prepping to be one of the best series to come from Marvel Legacy. There's great dynamic art from Geoff Shaw with a fun story from Donny Cates.
Sinister but unbelievably awesome forces snare Thanos and drop him into a time-twisty new premise. Donny Cates's script is a jewel. In just three pages, he makes the Chitauri work in comics for the first time ever. Geoff Shaw's art has a slightly scratchy finish, but the bones of his visuals are impeccable. This looks cinematic as all get-out, and the story lives up to the art. This might be the perfect heavy metal comic. Cosmic fire and blood and conquest and an unrestrainable tidal wave of *pure awesome* washing you right past any weak spots. I have no idea if this level of enthralling fun can be sustained but I'm just slavering to find out in the next issue.
Brilliant comic from start to finish and the cosmic Ghost Rider character is awesome so far, definitely excited to see more of him
Having read The Paybacks by Cates and God Country by this writer/artist duo I am not disappointed. They have breathed some new life into what felt like was a title circling the drain
I'm in!
Would have got a better grade if the ghost rider wasn't so cheesy. Really does not fit the tone of this book. Really cool concept though and Thanos continues to be badass. Art was fantastic.
While taking over the helm from Lemire, Cates does a good job. I feel as of it lost the dark grittyness of the last 12 issues however. Pretty solid over all.
So I am a bit late to the party, but there is this Marvel book everyone loves and I had to check it out after it ended. Did the first issue live up to the hype? Yes and no. First of all, let me say it is a solid issue and I am already seeing potential with Ghost Rider, but at the same time not a whole lot happened in this issue and it feels a bit light on content. I haven't had anything spoiled for me, but I assume at least for Thanos fans that the cliffhanger was a big deal. Solid issue.
