I am astounded about Prince’s capabilities. The mix of complexity, psychology and straightforward genre storytelling reminds me of the best moments of Vertigo in its heyday. And Whenever I think I got Prince worked out, he surprises me anew. Must be the most exciting author working in comics today. Just wish he would expand beyond then anthology format and would start a long form series.

Perfect. So much Heart in a marvel book... enjoyed every page and just kept thinking: man, why are there not more comics like this from the big two. I’m shocked how low the resonance was for this issue. For me a 10/10

is this some kind of adaptation or branded stuff? utterly forgettable and joyless. was expecting more from rahal.

10 for the art, 6 for the story.

Art and colors were PHENOMENAL here, Hotz brings a nice Wrightson horror flavor and a perfect sense of composition, perspective and love for details.

Wow, the release couldn't have been timed better. A bit eerie.

Wow. What a masterpiece.

A bit pointless, though pretty (but a little stiff for my taste).

Imagine 5-6 more writers of Hickmans caliber working in the medium, on mainstream books. We’d have the glorious rebirth of comic culture in no time...

Wow! What a pitch-perfect first issue. I'm not only deeply impressed by the level of storytelling and the fantastic page layouts, but also eagerly awaiting no. 2!

So many pages on hand, yet so little story told. Hate to diss a debut, but this one's the perfect example, why Image books are lacking for a long time: they don't utilize no (story) editors.

Can’t believe how incredibly good this is.

Whenever I think I'm done with Lemire, he pulls one out of his seemingly superdeep hat... Fantastic debut with INCREDIBLE artwork and coloring.

The art sells it.

Pretty good!

Meh.

A dysfunctional, though loving family goes through some bad stuff (and grows closer). By Jeff Lemire, but it's a new series.

Marvel 2099 (2019): Alpha #1 Dec 10, 2019

This is how you do an excellent first issue. Really dig the new art style by Jonathan Luna and the b&w, too.

This was messy.

With basically every mystery still being very mysterious and only one issue left... and with sales numbers, which don't necessarily warrant a second "season"... is this once-promising series up for a serious nosedive?

Played by the numbers. Meh.

The tonality was right, the artwork was great, just that the story didn't really grab me.

It's exactly what you'd expect. Pretty solid.

Far Sector #1 Nov 25, 2019

Good writing, terrible art and colors/digital „effects“. Too many subplots and backstory/exposition makes it feel pretty slow, which is not good for a (expensive) first Issue. Not sure if I’ll be back for more...

I wish it was as good as it pretends to be. But I am pretty sure I will enjoy it more in a second reading.

Pure joy. Sooks art ist incredible.

Really good art but they got two writers and 30+ pages to tell what... half a chapter of a story? Also: this super-generic "funny" in almost every dialogue just doesn't click with me. I read it and it was fine and I wished all the time Peter David would be allowed to write an X-Book again...

Solid. Well told. But not really hooky. Maybe also a little bit offputting that it's such an obvious tv pitch...

It's tragic that the AMAZING art by McCrea (and the colors by Spicer) got wasted on this. While the writing itself is not bad, the story idea seems just so bland and predictable. And I also don't get, why the writers used such a slow pacing and so much exposition for the kick-off of a mini-series. But they did write the characters well and I guess it will be a decent collection when done.

Very cool. I seem to always enjoy writers the most who originally come from prose BUT also understand the comics medium. Happy that I gave it a chance in spite of the horrible junk cover.

Perfect. Best first issue since Vision #1.

Love the unique pacing and the fantastic art on this. It's the right kind of confusing, where you want to find out more. And it does feel a lot like old school Vertigo, which gave a series the time to get going, instead of creating a sales pitch with the first issue.

a bit too pretentious for its own good. great artwork though.

strong first issue!

more like an excuse for tradd moore's hyper-psychedlic extravaganza, but: hell yeah.

Coloring's pretty good.

Great first issue!

This looked and read like everyone involved in the creation couldn't wait to get this homework done. I try to find SOMETHING nice to say about it, and it's that Meggan is featured in this book. Not the character from Excalibur but some alternative version of her, completely free of personality and/or inner conflict, but still: the name and costume were correct!

Liked the previous issue more, but Liam Sharps art alone makes every penny spent worth it. The build-up was a bit too long, but the ending of the issue was nice, so I'll stay on board for whatever weirdstuff is coming next.

More than solid work by Higgins & Reis, visually and tonally quite a unique book in the current Marvel rooster. Really sorry this is only a mini. It could have become an interesting book in the vein of Nomad in the 90s.

Maximum blandness: achieved. Boring and anti-climatic storytelling: done. Humour, which isn't funny: yup. Not super-bad, just super-skippable.

Batman/The Maxx #1 Oct 15, 2018

It just keeps up the fun factor. Love it.

The decision to wipe Nightwing's memory doesn't please everyone, which is understandable. But from a storytelling perspective the new psychological handicaps have a lot of great potential. I'm on board.

The weakest issue in a long run of great issues: It just didn't have a story.

It's warming up the Superior Foes thing (which was very cool back in the day), but not it's just lukewarm. Like the retelling of an old joke: not as funny anymore. Art was really bad, too. One issue in I'm already out again. Waiting for the next writer (or Zdarsky's comeback).

The first misstep for this otherwise great series.

Fuck, YES. This, after the rather lackluster No 6, was surprisingly intense with a hand full of "Whoa!"-moments and the craziest ending I have ever witnessed in a Hulk book. A++

Yup, as good as everyone says it is. This and Amazing 801 were the best Spidey issues in a long time.

Ehm... what did I just read? Krakoa's a super-interesting concept. Reviving Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandoes could have been exciting. But neither is showing in this comic. Missed opportunity.

Sub-par art, overloaded plot, weird story rhythm (could be coming from the art), the Punisher as a guest star in his ow book and in general not a good entry point for newcomers, so: meh.

LOVED IT.

Cardboard characters playing out info dumps. This is what happens when you get your news from sensationalistic websites and news shows: superficial and undifferentiated hyperbole and phantasies about hyperviolence and civil war. Though it's a clever business move by Ales Kot to drop this at a time of peak-alarmism and Trump-Tweet-journalism. I can feel the hate, alright. (Not to say this can't turn into something more interesting, but the first issue isn't very promising)

This is "Marvel Saga" all over again. Art ist fun, so is the format. But it's a plain boring read. Meh.
