The bestselling team of JEFF LEMIRE & ANDREA SORRENTINO (Old Man Logan, Green Arrow) unleash their most ambitious story to date with this complex and mesmerizing new supernatural mystery series. Norton gets closer to the secrets of the Black Barn as Fred discovers a grizzly new crime in Gideon Falls.
Lemire is a master of the slow burn and he is raising the bar with this one, the onion skin is slowly pulled away revealing just enough to keep the pace deliberate and steady. I certainly confess to being a huge fan of Lemire's work in all the various genres he has proven himself in, but Gideon Falls is that rare comic book I would unreservedly recommend to all readers, anyone who enjoys an engrossing thought-provoking plot and characters fully fleshed out and as human as your next door neighbor. If you haven't jumped on this one yet I would certainly grab the trade when it comes out or just pick up 1 and 2 in back issues and join the fun now. 5/5 Read Full Review
With its slow burn feel, emphasis on mood, mystery, and character, 'Gideon Falls' feels like a prestige HBO/streaming service show. It's a unique horror title with some of the most gorgeous art you will find in any comic book. Read Full Review
Gideon Falls is slowly piecing itself together as one of the greatest horror mysteries of the decade thanks to the combined efforts of a staggeringly magnificent creative team, and I cannot laud the series enough. Read Full Review
Gideon Falls #3 delivers once again. This is a title thats a tremendous monthly read, but might be even better in trade format to avoid having to wait on the next issue. Read Full Review
Gideon Falls has been a slow burn, albeit a very satisfying one. Every page turn is filled with dread as we gradually unravel the mystery that connects these two men. I'm eagerly anticipating their meeting and more importantly, what will finally pull them together. On the surface, they couldn't be farther apart, so what about this peculiar Black Barn will link them? Read Full Review
This book goes from strength to strength. I like the balanced pacing and the retention of mystery as we go along. It toys with horror but with a real-world backdrop that seems quite appealing - I can imagine myself getting comfort from Father Fred's little sermon - he is a darling despite what the local cops think (even if he was tempted by the whiskey at the start of this issue). Bring on the next issue - this series is great. Read Full Review
GIDEON FALLS #3 is the next chapter in the epic horror surrounding The Black Farm. The writing and pacing is nearly perfect, and the artwork is the greatest highlight of the issue. Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino continue to produce greatness, and each page turned leaves your heart beating faster. Read Full Review
A comic with a horror theme can seem difficult but as expected, Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino deliver. You are excited and scared to pick up the next issue and that's how any good horror should be. Read Full Review
Gideon Falls #3 is another impressive showing from this series, and it leaves me wanting more as a good comic should. The atmosphere is palpable, the meandering pacing works well for the setup, and the characters are interesting. This one gets another recommendation. Give it a read this Wednesday. Read Full Review
As we dive deeper into this story and learn more about the mysterious Black Barn and the odd characters and events that surround the eerily dark and possibly evil structure, more and more questions come to mind. Here, in Gideon Falls #3, Lemire progresses the plot forward just enough to keep readers hooked, but not enough to leave said readers feeling satisfied or comfortable by what new details they've learned. Even though Gideon Falls is different and weird from a distant view, the mysteries inside are what will keep you coming back. So have a little faith, because I think everyone here will need some to get through whatever it is that's coming for them. Read Full Review
This issue does an outstanding job of connecting character to every element of the story making the work of the issue much more compelling. Read Full Review
If you haven't jumped on board please do because it's only three issues in, and I have a feeling Jeff Lemire is going to tell an amazing story. Read Full Review
While not the most exciting or tense issue, "Gideon Falls" remains one of Lemire's most haunting and ambitious projects to date. Read Full Review
Gideon Falls is that kind of series where it's still working through the "pilot" episode for me and hasn't quite hooked me hard just yet. As I said last issue, Lemire has earned the trust to keep going with it but it's not grabbing my interest like a number of other recent works of his. This issue expands things a bit more with the characters and some intriguing choices are being made, particularly with Dr. Xu. But it's still lacking that hook that I'm looking for to really nail my interest down and get me to the point of eagerly looking forward to more. I'm hoping that it'll show up sooner rather than later. Read Full Review
The boil down the audience for Gideon Falls there are three types of readers for it. The ones that are enjoying it, the ones that aren't and the ones that will read it in trade. All three will have very different experiences which is one of the great and interesting things about comics. I wish I were in that third category because I have a feeling it would be better to digest as much as possible in one sitting. Instead, I find myself in that second group. Read Full Review
Still love this.
This series, after 3 issues in, has already had me intrigued to its mystery. I am so loving this series right now. It is so great! I never loved a book with a horror/mystery genre this much in my life. Jeff Lemire's script is so great! Andrea Sorrentino's art is so perfect for the tone and mood of this book. Dave Stewart's colouring is also perfect in setting the tone and mood for this book.
3 books in, we still have yet to get a concrete clue as of what is truely happening and the mystery surrounding the "Black Barn" is still....well....mysterious. In this issue meanwhile, the characters get more defined and there are also some slightly more informations revealed.
The only thing though, i just wished this issue's end more
This is the most anticipated series in my pull list along with Death Bed. I am starting to feel the pacing drag it down a little, but it's more because Lemire and Sorrentino have created a really fascinating beginning and I'm getting greedy to want more story each month. Norton's traps were gold, and I found myself smiling when he told Dr. Xi to watch her step. We're also starting to get more info on Gideon Falls and fleshing that creepy town out with a disturbing cast of characters. Love the back and forth between storylines.
Creepy. Love how lemire is building everything up. Very cool comic.
“Gideon Falls” is still on a slow burn as of issue #3, but it’s deeply rich in terms of creating a mood and tone of dark fear. There is also interesting characterization here, a given for Lemire. The showstopper is still the gorgeous, complex design and layout by Sorrentino. This book looks incredible. I reread the first two issues before this one, and together they make a brooding, suspenseful read, leaving me excited for the further development of this story.
The mystery keeps on building, loving this dark tone of the book. The story is progressing, but not too fast, which I find very fitting for this book.
Gideon Falls has been a really cool comic. It has good art with a dark, eerie feel to it. It also has some pretty good writing and a slowly building mystery. Things are about to start getting a little crazy and I'll be here for the ride.
And there i was completely out because of the final of issue 2. I even't try. So I will not be a perfect Reviewer for this one.
Cover - Still love it. 2/2
Writing - That's seem always well written but I could really tell. 2/3
Arts - The art is too great the face in the barn give me some nightmares. 3/3
Feeling - Not my kind of comics, so sorry about that. 0/2
