Joshua Cassara offers some breathtaking, brutal and detailed art in this issue. I was blown away by the first page and that intense, painful looking montage of what happened to Domino. It actually managed to elicit the kind of anger that Kid Omega was chiding Wolverine about. Absolutely beautiful visuals in this issue. Read Full Review
This third issue is filled with surprises, continues to offer an interesting perspective on the bigger picture, and sets in motion a new war. Characters continue to be written exceptionally well too. If you weren't already all-in on this ride this will do it for you. Read Full Review
X-Force #3 is another very strong installment in what is most definitely a personal favorite in the DOX line up. This issue balances the gritty noir of the procedural with a more philosophical tone this time that is both interesting and enjoyable! Read Full Review
After this issue, X-Force has now jumped up to a must-read title from the Dawn of X books. Being bold enough to have Xavier killed at the end of the first issue was definitely a clever way of keeping us coming back for more, but what creates investment is seeing how the writing tries to captivate us through more than shock value. X-Force #3 introduced us to a major new enemy, once again set the stakes for mutantkind, and emphasized how these aren't the same mutants who would have once ran back licking their wounds. There are, to be fair, a couple elements that don't work quite as wellas we might want. The resolution of Domino's rescue is a little toodeus ex machina, as fun as it is. The Xavier resolution is alittle too clean as well. But those little complaints are minor dingsat best, and it's hard to be too mad at a book that's this much fun. With "The Skeleton Key," X-Force has officially found itsdirection and is confidently moving forward. X-fans can see the thought and detail Percy has put forth on every page of this weeks installment. From the opening page describing the evolution of humanity to the closing dialogue on the final pages, Percy has calculated a narrative that has become a focal portrayal that appears to be the glue that holds all the X-books together. X-Force is thrilling, horrifying, and fascinating; one "Dawn of X" series that seems fully prepared to embrace the potential of this new era. Read Full Review
Overall with several of the other books being so bright and light hearted, this dark book is exactly what we need to balance it out. This book shows the harsh reality of how some of the world still views the mutants. Things are about to get interesting and I highly recommend getting on this ride if you haven’t already. X-Force #3 is another excellent read. Benjamin Percy crafts a story that should appeal to a broad range of readers. Do you like action? Percy has you covered. Do you prefer complex stories with some depth? Percy has you covered, too. Do you prefer smartly written stories with good characters? Yup. Percy takes care of you, too. I would definitely recommend picking up a copy of X-Force #3. This title is worth the cover price. Read Full Review
Important pieces finally fall into place to show us what sort of comic X-Force is going to be. I mostly like what I see, and I'm interested in seeing the creative team really dig into the meat of the series. Read Full Review
X-Force is carving out its dark little niche in the Krakoan corner of the Marvel Universe and fans of mysterious, espionage-adjacent storytelling and going to want to check in on this one. Read Full Review
this book is outstanding!!
Yet another 10 rating by Ben Percy and Cassara. Percy writes a dark and grim X-book, and it works so much better than I would have thought. The art is equally creepy and terrifying and Percy perfectly balances Logan and Quentin’s fight in South Korea with what’s going on in Krakoa. Professor X’s return is written perfectly and Oercy just understands the relationship between Magneto and Charles.
Another stellar issue.
This was another really good issue. I like the elements of body horror with Domino, but that's mostly because I'm sick. And I expected Xavier to come back, and I understand what the purpose of his death was narratively, but it feels weird to me. I guess I just have to get used to the idea that Hickman relayed in one of his interviews. Death is dead, and if it's going to be used, it can't just be a gimmick, it has to be in service of telling a good story. X-Force succeeds in that.
This was the best issue of the series so far. Really nice art from Cassara once again here. When it comes to Percy's writing, I really liked the conversation between Jean and Beast. Plus, I enjoyed the dynamic between Wolverine and Kid Omega even more this time around. I'm looking forward to what comes next with the X-Force team now officially together.
Wolverine and Kid Omega save Domino from the creepy cult! Xavier Returns! That art! Oh, and Black Tom continues to be a really fun character too.
Xavier resurrects and Domino lives. With the high stakes clarified, the former formally launches a black-ops team. X-Force is go! I'm overall delighted with the way this initial arc has come together. It's fast, clear, gorgeously/creepily illustrated, and it may just be the best DoX series in terms of getting its "origin" done quickly and progressing to ongoing stories.
THE GOOD:
-This series is just great. Even the weakest issue felt super strong.
-This art is perfect.
-Another reason why this is my favorite DoX book is that it easily has the most interesting and memorable villains.
-I cannot wait for Percy's Wolverine. The character's so well written here.
-Kid Omega's a great character. He could easily be super annoying, but he's written really well here.
-This script is super good.
-The scene with the death of the assassin was super effective.
-The political thriller nature of this comic is so good.
THE BAD:
-The graphics felt really weak here. They were just unnecessary word-dumps, if more
Best X-men ongoing right after the main book! Never read anything by Percy but this is great work having X-force truly feel like a black ops even in the mundane stuff! Cassara is an outstanding artist in showcasing the gruesome and the beautiful all at once. Guru-eFX colors were a great match. I didn't pick up on the Dean white absence so kudos to him!
Prelude:
I've been loving Percy's X-Force so far and it's been one of the more interesting Dawn of X books. Let's see how he goes with this issue.
The Good:
Xeno is very interesting. Bit Court of Owls but I love what's being done with them.
Xavier is back but that's to be expected.
I like the infographics in this issue, though it's a bit less than the past two issues.
X-Force looks to be very interesting heading forwards.
I also liked Cassara's art in this issue.
The Bad:
Nothing.
Conclusion:
Another great issue in the evolving X-Force story. It's a series I didn't think I would be enjoying so much but I am.
X-Force presents a solid arc moving forward in leaps and bounds with each issue. This issue goes back to the rebirth mythology of the new era of mutants and raises a solid question "Should we fear death?"
Jean's history doesn't lie, she is the mutant who has witnessed "death" the most and having her this time resurrect the leader of the mutant revolution is significant. This makes X-force the most important team at the moment, as it deals directly with the forces that are attacking the Krakoa community.
We meet a new group of villains, the Xeno. The peacock tattoo on his leader's hand gives an interesting characteristic to the character that should be explored in more depth in future editions. Furthermore, we know that more
" I got a feeling... Our luck's about to change. "
- WOLVERINE
X-Force has been one of the most serious and interesting Dawn of X title since Jonathan Hickman took over the X-line last year. I'm reviewing this book after reading and reviewing Wolverine #1 so I'm behind.
This issue covers two main plot points. Wolverine and Kid Omega's extraction of Domino and the resurrection of Charles Xavier by Jean Grey.
The scenes with Logan, Omega and Domino are great and the art is appropriately dark and atmospheric. The rendering of Domino is also pretty grotesque. She's seriously mangled and it's hard to imagine her recovering without the help of a healer.
In a vacuum, the book is really good and if this was not an X-Title I doubt I would have any problems with the issue more
This was a good issue.
I may be in the dog house for saying this but this Issue was dull. Emphasizing how pointless death is for the Xmen makes me wonder what they really have to lose going forward? I know this is the theme we are discovering but this issue does little more than evoke that question. Art as usual was great I just found this issue played out plainly.
