Do you think Tynion had time write in boosters too? I'm so thrilled he's leaving Batman.
The Justice League has long protected Earth from all manner of foreign and alien invaders over the years, always keeping a vigilant eye to the skies for the next threat. But what if the threat was already walking the Earth…hiding in plain sight…watching…waiting for their moment to strike… In the tradition of DCeased comes a terrifying new series from the twisted minds of James Tynion IV (Nice House on the Lake; Something is Killing the Children), Matthew Rosenberg (The Joker Presents: A Puzzlebox; 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank; Hawkeye), and Otto Schmidt that will tear the Justice League apart in their war with the undead!
DC Vs. Vampires could have been a silly, stupid book with no purpose but cashing in on Halloween and the horror market. Thankfully, it proves to be so much more than that. This book is a must read for all fans of vampire fiction and DC Comics. Read Full Review
DC vs. Vampires #1 feels like it could be the next DCeased, in both fun, horror leanings along with being a perfectly contained, off-the-walls Elseworlds story. Issue #1 is a strong start, but its ultimately the paired mystery and horror with Otto Schmidts detailed linework and gorgeous colors that are going to sear this book into your brain. If nothing else, this book belongs on a pull list for the art and color, and if Schmidts track record is to be an indicator, that work is only going to improve as the book moves forward. A smart DC would have run this event over Halloween culminating in the finale just in time for the big day itself. The issue is a good start to an Elseworlds comics and the surprises within the first issue will draw in many readers just to see a new spin on their heroes. Read Full Review
This is far from a standard DC comic, it's making no attempts to be a family-friendly tale, and the creative team has committed to the tone in a way that sells it a lot better than the concept does. This is a pretty promising start, and a worthy successor to DCeased so far. Read Full Review
DC Vs Vampires #1 is the latest horror-infused series from DC, taking some bloody twists and turns while setting up its premise. In one issue, the stakes (if you'll pardon the term) have been set, and other heroes are slowly becoming aware of the vampire invasion. I look forward to future issues and recommend it to fans of horror comics or the DC Universe in general. Read Full Review
Schmidt does brilliant work with the art in the issue. The characters look great and the art style is perfect for action, drama and horror at the same time in some scenes. Read Full Review
With 11 issues to go this was mainly a setup issue, which was fine since the premise seems like it could easily work in the maxi-series format. This was a strong hook now its time to see if the rest of the series delivers. Read Full Review
DC vs. Vampires #1 by James Tynion & Matthew Rosenberg is a good starting point for this series. Honestly, I could not expect any more for issue #1 than what was delivered. All of the cards were not laid on the table, so that allows the reader to keep some type of interest. After reading this issue, I want to dive into the background of the vampire Andrew Bennet. From the way he is written throughout issue #1, he seems intriguing. I would recommend this issue for anyone who is looking to read something a little bit spooky for October. Like me, you may go into it thinking it is one thing, and you will emerge with a new curiosity to see how this storyline plays out. Read Full Review
DC vs. Vampires #1 is a solid debut with some twists and turns you'll need to experience for yourself. While it takes the familiar formula of alternative timeline heroes fighting (fill in the blank genre) the way the story is presented and the details makes it stand out as more than fill in the threat. There's a lot of potential here that'll keep readers on their toes, especially after that final segment of the comic. This is perfect for the Halloween season and perfect to sit back, relax, and just enjoy. Read Full Review
The premise is great and I still believe that it's going to be a strong 12 issue run, but the apocalyptic cover art is not what you'll find inside the book. Don't let this dampen your appetite for a good spooky story, though, as it is Matthew Rosenberg and James Tynion IV writing after all, and these guys always tend do deliver a great Batman tale… so give DC Vs. Vampires #1one a try! Read Full Review
Don't open this comic expecting "Citizen Kane," but if you like"DCeased" and don't mind seeing a few of your favorite characters get their limbs ripped out, this may be the comic to get you in the Halloween spirit. Read Full Review
It set up the villains and conflict nicely while allowing for some mysteries to build behind the scenes. Using established creatures and characters will enable them to cultivate the story instead of being burdened with creating an epicenter and cause of the destruction. Schmidt doing the colors and art for the issue gives it a cohesive and natural feel. Read Full Review

DC vs. Vampires #1 didn't do it for me. I was bored throughout, from the slow pacing to the drab art. Of course, this is only the start so things can change for the better, but my first impression was not good. Read Full Review
DC vs Vampires is a decent enough start and it works well at following in the footsteps of DCeased in presenting a world where the heroes might not manage to save the day, I just wish it was able to do so in a manner that was less muddled in its presentation and threw in a bit more detail when it came to its backgrounds. The death of the Legion of Doom was bad, but Zan's brutal, gleeful on-panel murder makes this one a depressing slog, and the last panels indicate that this is once again gonna be a 'Batman does it all!' story. Read Full Review
First of all, this cover is fantastic and will likely stick out in my brain when I think of this series years from now. Tynion and Rosenberg craft a fun, yet horrifying story here as we follow Andrew Bennet as he tries to warn the DC heroes of the coming threat. Otto Schmidt's art and inks were a huge highlight in this book for me. The red tint given to the flashbacks were beautiful. The flashback including Lex Luthor was my favorite part of this issue because of Lex Luthor's character moment where he tells Bennet to let people know that he saved them. I am excited to see where this goes next.
Otto Schmidt art? Sign me up.
Damn this was awesome.
Andrew Bennett becomes the device that sets the stage for Dc next big genre elseworlds story. Tom Taylor's "Dceased" was such a hit that it got three spin-offs/continuations. I hope this has the same affect because this issue really lays the groundwork for, a fun story. Tynion & Rosenberg use some some pretty effective characters to get the idea of how dangerous this coming "vampire vs mankind" war. Character decisoins/use works. Artwork is good & I can't wait for #2.
Pencil/Ink: Good
Writing: Outstanding
Story: Great
Layout: Good
Color: Great
Lettering: Great
This is a what-if series. What if vampires took over the DC world...and the beginning is more horrific than I had hoped. Tynion expertly twists expectations and surprises the reader. Excellent beginning.
Edit: Upon reading other reviews...I did NOT pick up any vaccination politics in this book. Equating vamps and viruses and making an anti-vamp injection is a well established story element in the vampire genre. Maybe the writers ARE making a statement, but whether they are or not does not diminish this book if you are willing to ignore politics while reading this. It also happens to be Halloween. Maybe more
Pretty good start. The twist at the end was wild and makes the issue work better on re-read. I like how it combines bloody brutality with a healthy dose of humour.
This was so much fun.
Give me MORE.
“‘Go to hell!’ ‘No need. We’re bringing it here.’”
This was just freaking awesome. What a blast of a read right here, which I will highly recommend for anyone who needs something different and wildly fun. This is setting up to be one of DC’s best books of the year.
This comic had some moments that I found a little surprising but I'm happy to see them really going there with it.

Anti-vaxxers getting ass-blasted over this is the funniest thing yet, and actually improves the reading experience.
I’m all in.
The start was pretty good. And I LOVE Otto's art!!
I wasn't expecting so much fun. It really is the next DCeased, and I just need a DC vs Werewolfs next.
It's a good book for the concept but I can't pretend that I don't realize the reason this book was created for right now: to promote vaccination. The panels from Schmidt weren't subtle at all. Now, I should add, so that I'm not misunderstood, that I am vaccinated and I think people should get the vaccine so that this whole nightmare can be over as soon as possible, though I don't think it should be forced upon anyone. I felt the need to add that because I'm sure the usual crazies here would have come to attack and pretend they understand I said something else. Now the problem for me here is that the way Luthor creates the shot here is... just stupid. He just takes the syringe, injects himself in the neck gets the blood out and... that's it.more
A really solid Elseworlds series that has a great pacing and plot. yeah, the art isnt great but I think this is an exception since it fits the tone and vibe of this alternate universe.
I went into this expecting to hate it, but it's actually fun.
Weak start, still, kinda fun and it has a huge potential
Tynion tends to use a lot of exposition, too much affects the pacing negatively, good hook tho.
Way too many pages are wasted on exposition that could have been explored in 2 pages, but overall the book still has a lot of potential.
It's a decent read it just didn't do much for me. I hope others enjoy it a bit more than I did
Not a huge fan of it, the writing and the plot is as generic as it can be, its DC Vs. Vampires. Weak start, i hope the next issues have more fun moments
I did not find such a wonderful delivery, to be honest I got bored a bit.
