They say love is when two hearts find their happy place right next to each other, but to Heartless, that's just the wall of jars of hearts he has in his back office. As Dick and Babs's two hearts do find their happy place next to each other, one question they ask each other proves difficult to answer.
The story opens with Batgirl contacting Nightwing in the midst of the chaos surrounding Haven. Then, Nightwing engages Blockbuster in a showdown of grand proportion. Afterwards, a surprising maneuver from his enemies, thwarts Blockbuster attempt at recruiting allies. Later, Nightwing and Batgirl have a heart-to-heart conversation. And finally, a deadly enemy returns in a surprising manner. The Story: All I can say is WOW! Tom Taylor has crafted a dynamic, well written narrative that not only changes the landscape of Bludhaven but solidifies a beloved relationship. I was especially impressed by the fight scene. I found that the back and forth between Nightwing and Blockbuster perfectly displayed their personalities, and Nightwings final warning to his old enemy was divine. However, my favorite part of the story was the interaction between Dick and Barbara. Ive always been a fan of the duo, but Taylors reedition of this couple has me rooting for their success. Finally, there is the surpri Read Full Review
Nightwing remains undefeated in terms of providing the A-list experience for a high-profile solo character. With the threat of Blockbuster and his crew addressed for a moment and clarity on the Dick/Babs front, this next arc offers a lot of exciting potential for an entirely new status quo. And as usual, I can't wait. Read Full Review

Nightwing #96 is summer action movie greatness. I loved every panel, the twists and turns were sublime all the way to the final page, and there was enough humor squeezed between the broken glass and electric arcs to make things amusing. I'm hyped to see what comes next in Bludhaven, from rebuilding to what will befall Nightwing next. This was a phenomenal issue. Read Full Review
One of the major plots of ‘Nightwing' comes to an action-packed heart-pounding satisfying almost two years in the making conclusion while setting up what is coming next and continuing to move the title character forward. This series is truly a delight to flip through, a gorgeous colorful, and powerful superhero story that wears its character-focused heart on its sleeve at all times. Read Full Review

Taylor and Redondo have earned their spots as two of the best creators to get their hands on ol' Dick Grayson this issue alone cements that idea. Read Full Review
Taylor and Redondo have been doing some really remarkable work with Nightwing. Its a fresh look at Gotham that delivers depth in comedy, drama, and action while also giving the look and feel of the varied architecture in the background that one might expect out of the second largest city in the DC Universes US. Its so rare that a series works so well on so many different levels. With any luck, the series can look forward to many more months of Taylor and Redondo. (Its always so frustrating when a team like this fades out of a series.) Read Full Review

Nightwing #96 is a masterclass in the philosophy of less is more using simplistic shapes, plots, and color palettes to reinforce the emotional core of the story being told. The dynamic action sequences and cavalcade of characters are a strong selling point of this run, but the Dick/Barbara relationship and its momentum is the reason to pick this issue up. Its the hinge in which expectations can be subverted, and is used organically to let the couple, and the individual characters of Nightwing and Batgirl grow and develop. With a relaunch of the DC Universe incoming, and Nightwing front and center, one can only hope that these progressions of the character can pioneer the next chapter of the larger publishing line. Nightwing #96 caps off the Blockbuster battle with great fight sequences and plenty of clever tactical moves by Nightwing's friends and the locals of Bludhaven. The character has reigned for some time, and it's nice to see him lose so spectacularly. Read Full Review
I do like this run, I truly do. It's just a bit of a letdown that Blockbuster's fall was - at the end of the day - not that big of a deal when Nightwing can call in a favor from anyone and everyone he knows at a moment's notice because that robs the stakes for future adversaries. Will Heartless be a far darker, more immediate threat? We shall see... Read Full Review
The final fight between Nightwing and Blockbuster was an intense battle that was a great payoff for the direction of Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo run on this series. Along with the major development in Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon relationship made Nightwing #96 an enjoyable end to "The Battle For Bludhaven's Heart. Read Full Review
Nightwing #96 is an exciting, if unsurprising, finale for Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's "Battle for Bldhaven's Heart. The action is gripping, the art effective, and the romantic angle with Dick and Barbara is heartfelt. While the simplistic plotting begs the question if the overall storyline was too slowly paced, it's hard to imagine fans of the series being disappointed with how everything plays out. Taylor and Redondo are in a good spot to continue forward with the series, I only hope that the plotting can maintain this quicker pace while delivering truly surprising twists. Read Full Review
A highly anticipated fighting scene, a kiss full of promise and an intriguing final twist and here’s number that perfectly concludes a story started from the beginning of Nightwing Infinite Frontier almost two years ago. A story that took the time to patiently build characters, issues, relationships, rivalries, …. A story that knew how to make Bludhaven a character in its own right (The Bludh is really a city that should be searched more). A story that showcased Dick Grayson more than Nightwing, who knew how to use his “network” intelligently (family, friends, superheroes), who emphasized his commitment and ambitions for the city… Finally, a story that put Barbara Gordon back at the centre of him love life. What would be nice is more
Fantastic!
I really liked this issue. It gave me everything I wanted as well as some surprises.
The fight between Nightwing and Blockbuster was great. The art was dynamic, and I loved how Dick moved through the sequence. I really wanted to see Dick dominate in a fight, and this succeeded while still allowing Blockbuster to be a formidable foe.
One gripe I had is that the "damage" to Nightwing's suit just looks like circles. There aren't frayed edges or flap material or scorch marks. The suit just seems oddly glued to Dick's body. (Digital version)
Dick/Babs interactions were mostly great. I would have tweaked some words, but overall I loved the positive focus on their happiness and being there for each other.
Good stuff! The lead up chapters were better but still a strong ending!
a pretty solid ending to this first arc. Great art, action, and heart/dialogue in this.
A great finale to the Blockbuster story, almost singlehandedly because of Redondo's kinetic action scene and peerless storytelling skills. Very not excited by the confirmation that now we're going to have to have stories about Heartless though — honestly, this feels like the high note the run should have ended on.
It's just me or Taylor just told us the same story in Nightwing and Son of Kal-El?
Bruno Redondo saves this title from be just ok.
The all-out battle between Nightwing and Blockbuster. Dick is left with the problem of Blockbuster knowing his identity, wanting to protect his family, and his developing relationship with Babs. Good stuff. Babs was great in this issue, she stops the baddies from entering the building by revealing dirt on Blockbuster, and when Dick tells her that they can't be together, from which I rolled my eyes and said, "of course." She instead replied, "Screw that." It was a great turn that I was not expecting. It ended quite sweetly with a heterosexual couple, which we really don't see in comics anymore.
Finally we have some plot!!
Redondo's art carries the day, enlivening a somewhat predictable story with a cop-out ending. And the weird gag with the foul language was distracting instead of funny, and tries to have it both ways in terms of us of such language. (Personally, I can do without it, but either use it, or don't.)
The art is good, the script...... well, can we have some new writing, please?
I got tired of Tom Taylor, it was good to get rid of Ric Grayson's taste, but that's enough.
