Even if you haven't been carefully following along with Superman or even Supergirl and other titles up to this point, Superman: Leviathan Rising #1 is an excellent way to get set for the DC event of the summer"and if "Event Leviathan" is even a fraction as enjoyable of a read as this book, we are in for a serious treat. There aren't any low-points in issue #1 of the Leviathan series. Bendis pulls no punches introducing readers to a list of old-school DC criminals mixed with a new face or two. The mystery surrounding Leviathan grows, the peril increases as Superman is over-matched by this group of criminals who are really good at being criminal. I highly recommend this story for readers who are looking for a fresh Superman story. Read Full Review
Leviathan Rising seems poised to be an event title that lives up to the hype and buzz. This is already shaping up to be the best Bendis contribution to Superman by far. Read Full Review

This book was beautiful, funny, and thoughtful. Even the Supergirl portion, who I am all but completely ignorant about was personally compelling. But Lois Lane was the MVP in this issue. Read Full Review
Superman: Leviathan Rising #1 is an expensive comic, coming in at $9.99 for approximately 70 pages, but three out of the four stories included are really top-notch, making it worth the high cover price. The issue serves as a very exciting appetizer for the upcoming Supermans Pal Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane maxi-series, debuting next month. If a good comic feels like a meal, then this issue is an excellent buffet, one where you might find yourself leaving a little overstuffed. Read Full Review

Superman Leviathan Rising #1 is both a great set-up for future stories and a stellar one on its own. Your mileage may vary on certain stories, but as an overall package, it's very well crafted. It hits you right where all good Superman stories should, and in a few places, you may not expect. Read Full Review
In relation to the main story however, the mystery that surrounds Leviathan as a villain has made this a captivating storyline that has been teased and threaded throughout many of the DC properties. This 73-page issue is certainly one you won't want to miss. Read Full Review

Definitely leaving me wanting more, Superman: Leviathan Rising Special lays the groundwork for what will surely be an exciting and memorable event. Leviathan is the most interesting villain introduced in a while, but will the mystery surrounding him have a satisfying pay-off? Read Full Review
Not much is really revealed in terms of what to expect for the event itself, but with the mysterious tone throughout this comic and the choice to place such an emphasis on the investigative journalism of Clark and Lois, there's some early signs that the event will be unique. Read Full Review

I enjoyed what we got out of our "Super" characters in this issue, but a lot of this didn't seem needed by the end and some of it just came off as nonsense that didn't care if it tied into the rest of the DCU or not. The art was great throughout, but overall, this story just seemed bloated to get it to its price tag. There's some important stuff to the Leviathan story here that got me excited, but it didn't get me excited for the Lois Lane or Jimmy Olsen books. Read Full Review
Imoptimistic the next issue (and those that follow) will build upon theestablished foundation. Answers will be forthcoming, if we are patient. But ifnot, well, I doubt Ill be surprised. Many of DCs recent events have failedto live up to the hype, but this is the first one to feature Bendis. I am toomuch of a DC fan to be anything but optimistic. Read Full Review
It's telling that the best parts of theSuperman: Leviathan Rising Special #1 are those that have nothing to do do with the Leviathan storyline. It is to be hoped that the new Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen series might get a sizable sales boost from the preview here. As for the rest of the book, the Leviathan organization may be rising, but this(anything but) special crashes and burns exiting the gate before it can get onto the runway. Read Full Review
Just rating this for the Jimmy Olsen story. I haven't read Fraction in a while and this was just a ton of fun in a few pages which is more than I can imagine Bendis did with this entire run. It's also nice that this has nothing to do with Bendis' Superman so even more points. Leiber on art is also perfect. Great read.
This really amps up anticipation to the Leviathan storyline. The way they made Leviathan seem a match for Superman is great. It was also written and drawn very well. However, the addition of the Jimmy Olson story in the middle did drive the momentum to a screeching halt for a while. I get a Lois Lan comic series but is there really demand for a Jimmy Olson comic series?
This was mostly really good, I feel like the Supergirl part was the weakest, and the Jimmy Olsen bit was a nice preview for Matt Fraction's mini.
"You're the best"
I was interested in Leviathan before, but now I just need to know how it will unfold. The whole Event is bigger than I anticipated.
And the special itself is great. Entertaining from the very first page to the last, with really good dialogue.
Clark and Lois together were great, Lois alone was also great, as was Ms. Leone and Leviathan him or herself. Jimmy's story, with the blood spewing cat, was a bit odd and I kinda don't know how Kara fits in all of this since I am not reading her solo title.
Ah, I almost forgot, there even was a tie-in to the Naomi series.
Yep, this special is definitely worth some attention.
The best part of this book is the Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane parts. So I'm actually kind of excited for those miniseries now. The rest wasn't too bad either, just less entertaining. For once in a long time, Bendis writes something where things actually progress and his writing is better for it because we're not stuck on the same plot point for too long. The Supergirl stuff by Marc Andreyko probably means more to people who've read the Steve Orlando run, not Andreyko's run, so it's odd that he focuses on these mostly absent characters. And it's fine, I guess. Not sure why I should care, honestly. Overall, not as bad as I thought it would be going in, which is a blessing because 80 pages is a lot.
Paquette is so good in this, and though the art transitions to other creators was done in a logical manner, I just wanted more Paquette. There are some good ideas here, but it feels disjointed. Great set-up for Lois, though.
Wow lacklustre and let down are understatements
Especially with a $10 price tag
It was good, but nothing special. Best part was Dex- Starr& it’s nice to see Talia getting a story again. The Supergirl story was kind of boring though.
I was shocked to find that I did not enjoy this. I hated the Jimmy Olsen parts.
Didn't have to be oversized. Intentionally harkens back to simpler, slightly less epic Silver Age Superman stories, complete with Jimmy Olsen slapstick. Wish they milked Clark's kidnapping more and spent less time on people trying to find him. Did not care for Supergirl segment, so it was annoying they forced us to try and catch up with all her mediocre adventures. We don't even really need her here tbh and her segment doesn't make a strong case for her inclusion.
THE GOOD:
-Yanick Paquette has always been a great artist. This issue is no exception.
-I'm surprised to say I like Leviathan. He has a different personality than I expecting, his face changing thing is cool, and he's not as cliched as I thought he would be.
-Not much happened plot-wise, but the Lois Lane story was well-written, and well drawn. I loved the interactions between Lane and Batman and Wonder Woman.
-The Supergirl story was good. Like the Lois Lane story, not much happened, but I liked the relationship between Kara and her family, and it was well-illustrated.
THE BAD:
-Why can't Bendis ever write… normal?
-Eh, overall Bendis' story was rather unint more
Felt like a lot of time wasting, tbh. But whatever.
Hated half of the art work and story. Thought it would be more interesting then it turned out to be. Thought the female villain rather looked a lot like Ophra.Which was kind of funny. Not sure yet if I'll bother with the Event. This wasn't that good and feel like I wasted money on buying it so probably wont read the rest of it.
Reminded how Lois abandons her family to write a book from a hotel room and now know to smoke and drink. Completely ignores the fact they are parents. The Supergirl part did not read well. I actually like the art overall.
