I don’t like the final issue as much as others do, because it doesn’t give the Watchmen characters enough respect. They also don’t really have a purpose in this story. Plus Doomsday Clock remains to be irrelevant for the DC universe. Overall Johns disappointed at the end.
MAJOR SPOILER!!
I find it hard to believe, that Dr. Manhatten is convinced so fast by Super more

I really don't understand how people can like this. Well, maybe on one level, which is as fan fiction.
I'm not so precious as to say that Moore's wishes should be respected and Watchmen characters should never be seen again....mind you Before Watchmen was a pain (despite beautiful Darwyn Cooke material).
But this...I won't get into the entire series and just mention a couple more

Yeah this is a very good point; Watchmen is timeless. Doomsday Clock is really of one period in time and will definitely not age well.
Bane and Thomas should kill each other. Also Gotham Girl is still insane, and Hush junior is stiil in Arkham.

let's see how long it takes for Gotham Girl to disappear from DC Comics, never to be mentioned again.
Amen @myconius . Gotham Girl is just an homage to Tom King´s daughter "Claire". Yes, he just made his daughter a bad copy of Supergirl. Maybe a cameo the day of her birthday would be ok but made his daughter a leading charachter in Batman comic just because he can and want to is very disrespectful and unprofessional.
I secretly expected Tom King would at least provide something special for the final issue. I'll agree with the majority of reviewers that this was not good. It was not even mediocre. It was bad. The art is really good though. Tom King has some great collaborators who provide the soul of the book and give each issue a lot of value.
But there is no story here. There's no plot, no resolution, n more

we are reading the same book. but those high scores must be high off the tom king kool aid.
What I disliked............
1. King just did the minimum to finish the story up. This issue feels like he just threw it together and didn't care about giving the fans a real story. I liked a lot of Kings run and disliked a lot also. However with all of what I liked I felt hopeful and was looking for this to be an epic ending. Instead it was more the dying embers to the fire. Okay one more thing I just realized. Batman is holding that kryptonite rock in his gloved hands and GG touches with her gloved hands and gets her powers shouldn't that mean that Batman now would have powers?????
That means King is very careless and just as we talked after Batman #84 inconsistencies DC really need some people to review issues looking for flaws before printing.
Well. That was bad.
Like actually bad.
Terrible even.
Alfred is dead for no reason. And it just didn't feel like it. No one seems to mourn him. What exactly happened to the batfamily? Are they okay?
So, Selina and Bruce got married. Yay.

Agree with myconius. Tom King thing is to kill and degrade characters, He just leave but saddly his mess remains.
No, Tom King, throwing incoherent shit, glueing it up with no context and pretending it has a message is not writing. 85 issues, and everything you've set up at the beginning, every promising thing, went to complete disrepair, and in some cases was just abandoned. Example? Gotham Girl killing Batman - remember when she, herself, teased that in the first arc of the series? If you do, well, you're omore

You mean in main continuity @myconius? Because I remember in main continuity he died long time ago in 60's smashed by a rock when saving the life of the Dynamic Duo and then soon returned as a very weird rogue named The Outsider. In Dark Knight Returns Alfred dies at the end. And recently he died in Injustice killed by Zaz for Superman order. And maybe there are another 1 or 2 times outside main continuity but right now I don't remember at all.
@Detective Chimp - yeah. in the main continuity. he sacrificed himself to save Brice & Dick, and was replaced by Aunt Harriet, then due to Alfred's popularity they just brought him back. i suspect somewhere down the road DC will be widdling Alfred being alive back into continuity, after they're done trying to capitalize on ALFRED R.I.P. ..not sure if i want to actually waste $4.99 on that.
SIMPLY AWFUL! Just as the overall King´s run. Does this crap worths the dead of Alfred? What do we get in return? Gotham Girl? I really hate her, she´s got 0% appeal. Bat & Cat? I´m done with bat & cat. It was just tooooo muuuuch bat & cat! I really like Flashpoint Batman and Bane as characters but King just wasted them in a very idotic way. @myconius I'm feeling as going for the same path. If they remove Bruce Wayne just as removed Alfred I won't care about BATMAN anymore.
Maybe DC just needs a scary drop in their sales to stop printing crap. They don't care for the readers anymore.
I don't know what linear story telling did to King as a child, but it must be terrible. Because King just refuses to tell a story in linear order.
Apparently Thomas Wayne's whole motivation is that he fell in love with the Selina Kyle of his world and he wants Bruce to, in some sort of weird psycho-sexual transference thing, seal the deal.
Apparently Martha Joker killed Selin more

Damn, so Batman is completely ineffective and once again has to have SuperCat come in and save him I mean, Thomas took out the ENTIRE BatFam but Catwoman can take him down no problem. I guess it could be worse, this could be Batman's main solo book. Wait, it is? Oh shit, this does suck then.
Gotham Girl apparently, though has had fairly limited interaction with Bruce since the beginning more

don't you just love all these loose ends that King left hanging? i really think he had absolutely no clue what to do with Thomas since tossing him in at the end of issue #50. ...and everything's been so muddled and dragged out, that i don't even remember what King's reasonling for Booster Gold's sidekick Skeets being involved with Bane was.
What happened with Psycho Pirate? And yeah, Skeets too. So much was left behind and people will complain and say “but he didn’t get to do the full run he wanted”. Too damn bad, if he was a writer worth a shit he could have wrapped it up in the 16 issues he had from the time he found out he was off until now.
Prelude:
Well, it's the last issue of Tom King's run on Batman. A series that showed so much potential at the start but lost it at #50 and never got back to that level. Let's see how this final issue goes.
The Good:
It finally happened.
Janin's art is great in this issue.
The Bad:
The pacing is completely broken.

pacing has been something Tom King has never understood. ....that nand how to tell a good story.
thank god this pathetic P.O.S. Batman run is finally over!!
leave it to Tom King to riddle his "grand" finale with a juxtaposition of something totally non-consequential to the climax. this comic is ALL over the place! does he think he's being clever?

Things I liked about the issue........
1. I rather liked that Thomas had a history with Selina in his world. It's kind of cool that she was like his Robin sort of. It was an unexpected twist. And the fact that Martha kills her was sad but cool also. The whole we met here no we met here thing was over kill. @Luna I think they actually need some "serious people" in all comic industry.
True or for the ones working in to start to actually give a damn about the characters and not just the over all credit for having gotten one of their stories out
"My little boy..."
Not bad, I enjoyed this one.
Filler? Yes. Should have been released much earlier to reveal naggingly missing plot details? Most definitely.
But we finally learn how Thomas Wayne got to the Prime universe. It fits, involves a speedster (there is a coloring error in the issue), makes sense and fills a plot point that really should have been filled more

I know that they work now and I'm glad that you brought up the suspensions of disbelief. The flashpoint timeline wasn't erased because it wasn't. And people don't recognize Clark Kent as Superman with glasses because they don't. I know that we won't see eye to eye on the matter but it's always nice to have a civil conversation with someone on the internet. That stuff is rare. Especially now when people are triggered by everything. Literally everything.
The issue's heartbreaking in that it's a window into how much better this series could've been with both a re-prioritization of... priorities and tighter pacing. We needed this dive into Flashpoint bat so much like 30 issues ago, maybe showing the character motivations so we know why things are happening or something, maybe dropping bane entirely because he doesn't do anything interesting and thommore

Agree. Is sad to think about how good this book should be (because is BATMAN!) and how bad actually is for a real lack of common sense from King.
Oh man, what an unfortunate time to release this issue. This could have been so much better if it was released instead of issue #81.
As it stands, this issue does a good job establishing Thomas's motivations. It gives us a much-needed explanation of what Thomas was doing all along and why he did it.
However, I can't say that the fact this issue came so late in the arc didn't more

@Linkush I liked this issue just as you. But the run as a whole is terrible and I don't expect a good end in #85.
So questions were answered. Plotholes were loved. Origins ans background were added. But hey that only means that King doesn't know what he is doing. That was the tale of a broken man and it was profound and touching. It give more depht to the overall run and it really prepare for the last showdown. Not particullary fan of the reverse narration but it was done correctly.

Ooops I give a 10 to this issue Bring me my helmet but read my review because I explain why I really liked this issue 84 even when I think King's Run is almost absolute crap since around #50.
This isnt as bad as the last few issues, but still bad.
We are finally getting an explanation for why & how Thomas can even be in this timeline. I don’t read Flash, but I don’t think Reverse Flash is powerful enough to bring people from already erased timelines back to the canon ( if so, he should bring Pre52 Darkseid& Desaad back to me), so this feels like a deus ex machina.

All the characters deserve better, King is a character shredder, Alfred is dead, all those characters in Heroes in Crisis dead and wally totally ashamed, and I fear next number King ends killing Thomas. What more? Maybe now Bane awakes and decides to start a new life under the name "RANE"...
Yes, I gave #83 a 1 and #84 a 10. Allow me to explain myself. The Good News : FINALLY! We have the background story of Bat-Thomas and I think is just amazing, I really like this character since Flashpoint and I think this background story is very good stuff about Thomas so I spare a review of 10 for this issue but... I've seen porn movies with more plot than this disaster of a comic. Once more, King tries (and fails) to mask lack of an actual plot with a second narrative, pretending its poetic themes match whatever's happening on the issue's pages. And also, once more, he ends a meaningless, shallow comic on a cliffhanger teasing what may come... and eventually, I can bet, it won't. I've been burne too many timore

@myconius I would save Joshua McDonald from Batman News. I think he brings very honest reviews. And what about all that "people" coming just to give a 10 without any explanation just helping to save the people rate from our 1 point reviews? If not for those dubious "people" the ratings would be as low as around 2 points but right now is around 6 points.
This book goes to nowhere. King and DC are just wasting our time. "City of Bane" is ending and all we got is our beloved Alfred dead and so is Bane. King and DC are just wasting our time. - AGREED!!! i strongly felt this since Tom King's very first issue. King should have never been given Batman.
I not very enthusiastic about Tynion but right now we just need King to end his terrible run. He said #84 will be full of anger and #85 will make us cry a lot so I expecting the worst in that last issue.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Tom King has Batman crying YET again!
maybe Alfred wouldn't have died if Bruce didn't leave him in danger in the first place. this really makes Bruce look like a complete failure. how is it that Alfred was even a prisoner of Bane's in the first place?

I remember, it was THE PHOENIX AND THE TURTLE, from Shakespeare if I remember well.
@myconius this beach scene was one of the dumbest in Comic Book history. I hate Bruce for relaxing& making weird fitness poses with Selina while Alfred was brutally murdered. He doesnt get any sympathy from me. I thankfully can borrow Comics from a friend. I only buy the ones I really like, but since they are all trash lately DC saves me a lot of money.
I don't care about any of this. I'm glad now we have confirmation that Bruce was suicidal at his young age and he did make the vow to be Batman at that same young age. No one actually promised a reboot or crisis coming out of Doomsday Clock. From the beginning, Johns a confrontation between the philosophies of Superman and Dr. Manhattan instead of a brawl between Justice League and Watchmen. You can judge how well it performed to that promise.
Doomsday Clock did back then when it was announced& the Button teased that change.
