There’s a lot going on here, unfortunately I don’t think the execution was there. Character voices felt off to me. Too much of the dialogue was just, bad.

Thought things couldn’t get worse after gang war, but things thing seemed all over the place. Glad JRJR isn’t doing the in book art at the moment, if we can get him off the covers too that would be outstanding. I’m sorry but I can’t buy MJ and Peter being this chummy already when the dude was going to propose to her and she just gets with another guy. Hallows Eve was a creative idea but it feels like Lowe and Wells are acting like Oprah and just giving everyone powers.

I did not know there was a leak so I was not spoiled going into the book, and oh boy, I almost wish it's what I thought was going to happen. The art is JRJR, if you like him you'll likely be very pleased but just can't stand the way he does faces. The book in a standalone situation is fine at best. For transparency, I have not enjoyed this arc. The basic premise of two individuals on the verge of being engaged suddenly with two different people I cannot buy in to. It's not like they had a fight and breakup, they're just with different people. MJ only emotional confliction really shows when Peter returns for her and she just feels bad that she likes Paul now. I can buy MJ growing fond of Paul (assuming no Stockholm) but not her being conflicted when Peter gets back. *Spoilers* Kamala dies? The cameo character? I think MJ being with Paul, a random dude, is disrespectful to her but Kamala dying as a cameo character? If I was a Kamala fan I'd be very upset. Yes, it's something she would do, but why as a reader of Amazing Spider-Man do I have any attachment to Kamala other than knowing she's Ms Marvel? Nothing done in this story made me care any more or less about her than I had before. If they were marketing this as the biggest shocker in 50 years they should've just killed MJ (I did not want that but it would've made for a better story). I think the book for whole year would've been passable if you just cut MJ from the story entirely and replace her with someone else then have whoever replaces her die instead. Peter is going back to save whoever it is because he's Peter. Yes, we would lose some of the conflict with the FF and Cap because it's not MJ, but I think the overall story would've been better for it. As a conclusion to "the biggest thing to happen to Spider-Man in 50 years" I was extremely underwhelmed. As just a book without the marketing and fan noise, it was just fine. I've liked Wells on some stuff in the past but I think it's fair to just call it an L and put a new team on the book, and maybe a new editor. A fully fresh team would bring life back to something that's been through a lot of ups and downs recently. Spider-Man is a massive character and there never going to please everyone, but they can surely do better than this.

I tried to care, I couldn’t. Didn’t enjoy Morrison’s take or how everything that happened in the previous book was completely thrown out the window, but hey, that’s comics.

I’m sorry but the art is not good, that first panel… geez. It gets better as the book continues, but that’s like saying a turd doesn’t smell as bad the longer it sits. The first few panels makes all of the intensity from the prior issue a joke. I am moderately intrigued to see what happens with Janice. If this was any other book than ASM I would’ve dropped it 30+ issues ago.

Writing wasn’t bad but it was very stereotypical superhero tropes throughout the whole issue. 2 things were done right, the art was great and 2 of the last 3 text bubbles from MJ - she was already a hero. That’s what made her great, she didn’t have powers and she was a force in what she did in her own way. This is forced and not needed. Major L for Nick Lowe who still oversees the subpar state ASM is in.

I was enjoying actually this arc, but this one did not stick the landing for me. I feel like they could’ve done a lot more with this but instead it just abruptly ended. Art killed it the whole way through which is the bulk of my score on this one. Side note, Lowe had a response to a fan in the fan mail that was extremely tone deaf, and in my opinion out of touch. Takes like that are a cause for concern for me if this is the guy overseeing the book.

Narratively this was much better than the prior issue but JRJR continues to prove he’s not an amazing artist. Pun intended. His work on faces is a joke and should not be paid to be drawing a top tier marvel book. Janice’s new costume is horrible. I know a lot of people like JRJR but I can’t stand it. He’s so inconsistent and even when he’s doing ok for him I still don’t like it. Super nitpick panel, the scene where she hulk is throwing Spider-Man, the physics are way off. Her arm is fully extended so his body should be further out. It’s easy to nitpick when you don’t like something, yes. But the art as a whole is subpar.

Basically nothing came out of this entire event except, minor spoiler, Tombstone is back on top. JRJR’s art quality was all over the place in this issue. Some panels were ok and others were just, bad/low effort. Jackpot (aka the superhero we never needed or wanted because MJ is great as herself and doesn’t need powers) made a brief cheesy appearance. If you’re tired of this mediocrity, Ultimate Spider-Man is a great read. The only reason I’m still getting Amazing is because I’m collecting the series as a whole.

It’s kind of hilarious to see the meh Electro on the cover and as soon as you open the comic there’s an almost full page of him that looks outstanding. I don’t like JRJRs art but they did him dirty with that. Honestly had a moment of wanting to tear the book apart during the first interaction of Peter and MJ. In later scenes it feels like either Wells is teasing a reunion or just flaming the people who are unhappy with the run. If something is being setup with this crazy Michelle woman, I’m not feeling it.

I love Black Cat and MJ, but Jackpot shouldn’t be a thing. MJ is powerful in her own right and never needed a power gimmick. The book is fine, but doesn’t make me care enough about something I never wanted in the first place.

Just meh. Not much to say really, some funny Rek-Rap lines.

Interesting world. Dialogue was to cheesy for me. If you’re into cheesy dialogue and 70s? 80s? style space stuff you’d probably enjoy this.

High reviews got me to read the 2nd one. More of the same from the first issue. Not my kind of book, but can totally see why some would enjoy it. I hope those who continue to get this enjoy the ride.

Felt like more could’ve been done with the alien parasite, a tad anticlimactic.

Fun book, on theme for Halloween. It’s almost like if Wells doesn’t touch MJ he does a decent job. Crazy thing here is we’re just ignoring the previous arc, what? Did Peter not just go through one hell of a time? As a standalone it was fine but definitely didn’t flow.

McGuinness’s art was spectacular, bumps up the score some for me. Story was fun, but still don’t see why we jumped straight into this after everything we left behind in the prior arc.

One of the best issues of this arc, still not phenomenal by any means. Thought this was some of JRJRs better work, and I’m not a fan of his work at all. Overall still just hard to get behind. Looking forward to reading Ultimate Spider-Man 2 more than seeing the end of this event.

It was fine, which is good for this run. Enjoyed the art.

This was hard to follow as a stand-alone, fortunately I was behind on my books and I was able to pick this right back up and put it together.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2023) #12 Dec 4, 2023

It’s, fine. I don’t think I’m the target audience here. Hope those it’s meant for enjoy it.

I was excited to see this was going to be a thing, but it it felt a little empty. It gave us the superior Spider-Man feel, but it didn’t feel like there was a reason for the book to exist. It ended up really being about a new villain and I thought we’d be getting a superior Spider-Man story.

It’s still fine, I’m still enjoying it, but I think I need something to pull me back in. The 4-5 month break here didn’t help here, I was a little lost when I opened the book. We’ll see what happens when the arc ends.

Full disclosure: not a fan of the last few issues for MANY reasons, but objectively speaking this was good. What’s happening here actually makes sense, people are processing the prior events in believable ways. I liked the art, but did notice a small miss on the costume. When he was fighting Shocker he had on the “Osborn suit” but when he got back to the apartment it was the normal suit. Not sure if that was meant to be an off page change of clothes but assuming it wasn’t, it was a small attention to detail that I wish was caught. I did forget the arms had sentience, that threw me for a bit of a loop.

People giving this a 1 are those who are in the “I hate this run camp.” It’s ok not to like the book but to rate it a 1 is just petty. Your saying that it is literally the worst thing ever written, it’s not. It’s also not a 10 because OMG shocking event happened!!! Everything that happened with Damien made sense. No one ever helps other cities when dire things are going on and King, whether you like his reasoning or not, did give us a reason as to why there isn’t any outside help coming in. It did seem a little rushed to me, the last page was kind of forced/random. Dialogue between Damien and “grandpa” was entertaining. Possibly a must buy for collectors because of the potential event in the story.

It started shaky but I think the landing was stuck here. As to why this was needed in the middle of the run, I don’t know. I think this would’ve been better served with a couple more issues to feel like a true sequel to the year one arc we got a while back.

I’m enjoying the run, I don’t understand all the hate other than the “retconning” of the Joker’s motive. He’s always been obsessed with trying to push Batman over the edge, to get him down to his level. At least it fits the narrative here.

I enjoyed the first issue more, but a good read IMO. Art is still phenomenal and I’m enjoying the more realistic take on the characters so far. Not the typical Harleen, no, but definitely an intriguing take.

I’m not a huge fan of the “it’s a milestone issue we have to touch on everything” setups but this one is actually done well. The art on the first 5 pages is absolutely stunning. If it’s not sold out and you see it on the shelf, at least look at the art on those pages.

Refreshing to see good art again on a premier book.

Not as good as it was hyped up to be, but still a good action issue.

Bump in score cause of the art. The art is amazing, narratively I’d put it closer to a 7. King’s pacing for the run overall has been slow, I almost feel like this all should’ve been included in the previous issue. I can see where the Bruce and Selena are “talking at not to” perspective is coming from but I don’t think it’s as bad as others. Had the overall pacing in the run been better this would have a higher score. It’s needed for the overall story I believe he’s going for to work.

More like a 7.75, im rounding up. I’m a Kaine fan, so I’m excited he’s playing a prominent role here. There’s enough mystery here to get me to pick up the second issue.

Level setting issue a bit, liking the slow burn with Rabble. Great job writing the interactions between Miles and Kamala

It has Ric but I didn’t hate it. Kind of filler-ey, but had some moments. One panel got a real good chuckle out of me.

It was good, just seemed like world building and more information for what we’re dealing with. Still enjoyable and left me wanting to see what happened next.

Still moving plot along nicely, still confusing my brain, still intrigue to see where it goes.

Fun story. Back story was good, too. I hope we don’t get over killed with retcon type stuff with Spider-Boy

Fun read, still better a better Spider-Man run than ASM.

I’ve hated this run, but honestly this was one of the best issues from it. I very much dislike JRJRs art but even he did really well here. I wish everyone in the story wore a mask, that’s help a lot.

Where was this the rest of the run? In response to Nick Lowe’s letter responses, there are a LOT of us who have not enjoyed this run, I don’t believe that’s as “bold” of a take as you believe.

Just moving the plot forward, or potentially more. It all depends what happens after the last page.

I love the art, and cover. I love how Ewing is writing this, the voice for the characters is on point. I hope this continues to build to something special.

I love how Ewing tells the stories within the stories, very well done.

That first panel, awesome. Admittedly, at first I wasn't too into it and a tad lost as to what was happening and what the point was. Then at the end, ah, yes. This makes sense. A god is only as strong as the belief people have in them.

This was just a random fill in for the beast world event but it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise.

I’m shocked they didn’t make this a mega thick issue, not complaining through. Mainly filler, but filler that makes sense. It seems like this slow burn is is about to hit the gas.

Fitting end to a great series. I have loved Jason Aaron’s entire run on Thor and I’m looking forward to how he finishes this ride with King Thor.

Thank you for being an author who is carrying the weight of everything from the prior writer into your series. At times it almost felt like an epilogue of Aaron’s run, which definitely worked for the transition to the new direction it appears we’re heading. I got all of Aaron’s run and was going to take a break from Thor for a bit but after reading this I may have to keep it on my pull.

Lot of setup and background here, other than the shocker of course. My only complaint is I feel like we were missing a page or two, things felt a little rushed at the end.

Enough intrigue to pick up #2. I liked what Hickman did with the X-Men, very curious to see what happens here.

Giving it an extra 0.5 for the art in the back story. Wow. The emotion they captured in the faces was phenomenal. The primary story was really good, too, but the props to the back story art was needed.

Good read

Landmark mega sized issues are usually hit and miss, some of the main story and then some background stuff. This is the main story, cover to cover. There were some inconsistencies with the art since they had a couple people on to help. However, some of those full page jobs were awesome. Lots of story and action, very well put together. My only complaint is we have to wait until the next issue to see the end of the big battle.

Fun book, the line on the last page would’ve been better if vultures were actually birds of prey.

Worth checking out for what they did alone in this one. The whole comic being done from the POV of the character is something I haven’t seen before, really cool.

Great read. Twist at the end was unexpected, very well done.

Great issue, cool seeing the external perspective from Batman.

Cool book, unexpected “wrap up” of what was going on. Curious to see where this goes.

This was amazing. Lol.

Some of you thought we’d never miss Slott…

Nightwing is a fox. There are some cold, well done lines at the end of this one.

Loved the Joker in this. Very intrigued to see where this goes.

Everything makes sense now. Or does it? I don’t know.

Very good book. I feel like we’re about to be in for a ride the rest of the way.

That’s how you build up to a battle and make it count. Great job with Rabble, this is the first time in awhile a new villain/foe really stuck out and held their own, in story telling and as formidable. Honestly, I kind of hope she doesn’t have a full redemption arc, it’d be cool to have her as one of Miles’s bigger rogues in the future.

This series started strong and stumbled in the middle, but I believe it stuck the landing. No spoilers, but one page was just, wow. One of my favorite surprises that I’ve seen in a comic in a long time. Well played Chip.

Four Spider-Man comics came out this week, not sure if that’s awesome or says something about Marvel (or both). This and Miles 300 were pretty close for top dog, but I’d give the slight edge to this. An expected interaction occurs, I didn’t know how it was going to go, but I didn’t expect each of the little twists. I say again, this is the best Spider-Man book out right now. If you’re a fan, pick it up.

Who knew a comic that fully takes place during a dinner conversation could be so entertaining?

Great read, I can feel the build.

Another phenomenal read, better than amazing. Pun intended. I love the Ben and Jonah relationship, really well done. If you’re not getting this book and you’re a Spider-Man fan, you should be.
