After the masterful first issue the bar is high for Ultimate Spider-Man, and luckily writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Marco Checchetto prove that it wasn't a fluke of the premiere and their take on the material has legs. Read Full Review

OK, I know, I got to stop dishing out 10s for Spider-Man comics, but hot damn, what a book! What a series! Read Full Review
Final Thoughts If issue 1 was a prequel, this is Day 1. Peter is still getting used to his powers, hes already lost twice, and Spider-man still has no real identity. Thats bound to change in the upcoming issues. Wilson Fisk is set to take charge, the Goblin is just ramping up his attacks, and Jonah and Ben are very quickly becoming the heart of the book. I cant wait another month. Out of the two books in the line so far, this is the one to beat. Read Full Review
Checchettos art elevates and refines these various elements through deliberately clumsy action and pure warmth in expressions. Paired with Wilsons coloring, which subverts visual expectations while grounding the specific beats into adjacent tones, the art proves what top-tier talent brings to a flagship title. Ultimate Spider-Man #2 is proof the debut issue was not a fluke and there is a level of care and craft that fosters true innovation for the webhead and his supporting cast. Anyone lingering with doubts about this book should jump on this train now, as it shapes up to be quite possibly the defining Spider-Man story of the decade. Read Full Review

Spider-Man fans, rejoice! Ultimate Spider-Man is a great comic series for Spidey fans and superhero fans alike. It blends realistic visuals and tone with the greatest superhero of all time. What more could you want? The answer is more issues of this series! Read Full Review
Ultimate Spider-Man #2 is a wonderful follow-up to the stand-out debut of this series. Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto nail the story of an older Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man. What that means for Peter and those around him provides plenty of potential to play off from. That is shown throughout this issue, building a comic book you are excited to see how it continues in the future. Read Full Review
Checchetto delivers some beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and the immersive imagery with both the characters and action. Read Full Review
Ultimate Spider-Man #2 is a fantastic second issue. If you were excited by the first, the second is sure to amp all of that up. This is a take on the character that's familiar but quite different, acting almost as a "what if riff on things that have been teased in the main Marvel Universe for years. The comic is one of the best Marvel is putting out right now and we're excited to see what the next issue brings. Read Full Review
Ultimate Spider-Man #2 plays on all the correct sensibilities to tell a complete story I can relate to. Read Full Review
Ultimate Spider-Man #2 significantly improves over the first issue by putting more focus on Peter Parker as he tries, fails, and tries again to figure out how to be a superhero. Hickman wisely balances the wonder of a person getting superpowers with the maturity of an older man who thinks before he acts. That said, the second draw of this series is the Parker family and they still aren't given much exposure or anything to do, which is a bummer. Read Full Review
So far, this remains an entertaining and very engaging alternate reality Spider-Man story. Plenty of fun scenes and character moments in this second issue. Read Full Review
Ok this is probably too high of a rating for this issue, but it got me in the soft spot. May helping be Peters inspiration for changing the costume cause it scares her? Got me tearing up a bit with a big old smile.
The banter between Ben and Jonah is great. I legit love it. There is so much in this new world to explore with the character relationships.
I also really enjoy Peter exploring the question, do I need to be the same Spiderman that I was suppose to be? I hope that answer is a clear no with him becoming his own unique version.
Lastly, I chuckled at Peter and the Shocker. Great moment.
Everything has been said by the other comments. This is a great series giving readers what they have wan more
Another phenomenal read, better than amazing. Pun intended. I love the Ben and Jonah relationship, really well done.
If you’re not getting this book and you’re a Spider-Man fan, you should be.
Hickman and Checcetto are as near a perfect match as Zdarsky was. All three master storytellers in their fields. Checcetto really understands Hickman's pace. Fluid and graceful in dynamic or humorous scenes, rigid and dark when it needs to be in tense or sincere moments. I couldn't be happier with how these first two issues have been. I remember talking to some friends about what projects people would like to see Hickman on and a lot of them said ASM. I was pretty against that. Not because I dislike Hickman, I think he's one of the greatest writers of our generation. I didn't think he would fit because ASM has a much different voice and direction that I am not sure Hickman would slot into or conform to that structure. Which is a good thing.more
This was great. This is exactly the type of Spider-Man book that the fans have wanted for over a decade.
I love Peters family dynamics, and the art is fantastic!
The build up of Kingpin and the Green Goblin is also good and keeps me wanting more. Even the Shocker was given his own unique personality and had a fun introduction.
Ben and Jonah's relationship continues to be a surprising highlight as well.
The only thing that concerns me is the lack of spider-sense, but hopefully Pete develops that soon.
This is what we need as a fan of Spider-Man (Peter Parker).
Plot
Peter Parker enjoys his new secret identity and at night he takes advantage to learn how to use his spdoeres and help the community with this new nanotechnology suit that is currently all black, it begins to appear in the Daily Bugle thanks to the photos of Peter. May, Peter's daughter, doesn't like that suit and she is afraid of this vigilante.
On the other hand, Ben and JJ Jameson discuss the current situation in the city, where Kingpin, as the owner of The Bugle, hides that he has received several attacks from a masked person, who apparently is the new Gree Goblin.
This comic shows Peter's trial-and-error learning process as a 35-year-old Spider-man, where his innocence is taken advantage of by Shocker, wh more
Another thumbs up issue. This series is off to such an entertaining start. It's interesting to see the first in Peter's family to learn his identity is his daughter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this will probably only help them grow closer. I'd like them to keep it a secret to themselves for the time being. I'd say little May is already developing into a promising original character. Hopefully in time Richard may too. I think it will also be interesting as well seeing father and daughter keep this secret from their own family for now. One thing though, if little May was afraid of Spider-Man in black now, just wait till this reality's Venom shows up (And that's inevitable, just a question of when).
I enjoyed the Shocker's deb more
Near perfect issue. Is is world breaking or mind blowing? No but just like when you're fasting in the summer and haven't had water for 18 hours, water tastes like the best thing you've ever had in your life. This comic book delivers on what we all wanted albeit from a different angle but it ticks all the boxes and I had a smile on my face the whole time. I even chuckled on that last panel with Peter saying that line. It was mm mmm chef's kiss from Hickman and Checchetto on art is beyond beautiful. Seriously, his Spidey is top ten all time. Top him with Wilson's subdued hues that only highlight what's important and we have a near perfect outing. I can see a turn coming at some point but for now I'm all in and twice on Wednesday.
P.S. d more
Two-for-two on great issues. This didn't quite pack the same punch as Issue 1, but I didn't expect it to and it didn't even necessarily need to. I thought this was a super fun first adventure, of sorts, for Peter in this universe. I think it was filled to the brim with great writing and character interactions, specifically. Plus, Checchetto kills it again here to the surprise of absolutely nobody.
A surprisingly straightforward issue delivering exactly what the book appears to promise. Fantastic art. I can't really find anything meaningful to complain about. The villains are a little wooden and does Peter not have spider-sense? In any case, this is certainly the most interesting spider book at the moment.
It’s genuinely excellent, I’m hungry for more.
A strong second issue that sees Peter learning how to be a hero. And he's pretty bad at this right now.
But hes learning.
The JJ and Ben stuff didn't really go anywhere this issue. The Kingpin stuff was cool. But the main drive of this issue is Peter's story, and how he's doing something he should've done ages ago but now late.
Hes a little too self aware of that, and he was also a little too trusting of Tony's message, but I get it. Hes kinda a dolt; bumbling through life and now will have to learn everything... hoe to use this power and how to be responsible with it.
That final line was also hilarious. These folks at marvel know EXACTLY what they're doing and I love it.
This was an extremely fun read.
I only have one problem. I wanted this to be longer. Everything else? I love.
And ending this with "maybe I'll give it one more day"? I see what you're doing Hickman.
this issue shows that the first issue was not a fluke, and Hickman is just firing on all cylinders. If he keeps this up, then this series will overtake Zeb Well's Amazing Spider-Man soon.
I also love how we see how an Adult Peter Parker will struggle, and the art of course is spectacular. I think it is a fantastic idea to have an issue come out once every two months to really get the ideas sharp and to also build up hype.
Really excellent characterization and also funny in a way that S-M hasn't been before. Great 4 page sequence between Jonah and Ben. Lovely art.
A great issue to continue from the amazing introduction to this series. Nothing too crazy happens, but it sets up the future scenarios in a great way that I can’t wait to see develop in the upcoming issues.
It's good. It's not revolutionary for me like some people seem to think it is, but it's really solid. The art is fantastic, and it's a good Spider-Man comic, which we haven't gotten in a while.
Art: 4/5
Story: 4/5
Total: 8/10
Christopher Nolan's Shocker
(Cover Date: April, 2024)
Nothing here makes sense.
The main issue is that we are seeing a mature man playing with his new super powers as if he were a teenager, I mean, do you want him to be mature or not?
I will elaborate later why the story doesn't make sense at all, but first, there are some of the same technical issues the previous one had:
The "bros" relationship between Jonah and Ben feels weird but I won't complain about it, what I did find annoying was the dialogue about the 25 years of cofee, that page was completely pointless. I guess Hickman wanted to get some casual dialogue like the "Royale with Cheese" scene from Pulp Fiction, but the result feels so unnatural that it seems like it was written by an AI, that must be in more
I liked this one alot. Interested to see why certain people are fighting.
