This comic reminded me of the feeling I had when reading Brubaker's "Sleeper" or Tom King's "Vision": the certainty that I was encountering something special, a sleeper hit that will make me eagerly follow all future works by an author. Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs, if they play their cards right, have a future classic on their hands.

It had been a long time since I had read a series that had entertained me so much. The heroes are interesting, their motivations clear, the story interesting. There is an interesting "Astro city" side to it.

I have been frequently disappointed by Black Panther comics (And when I say frequently, it's actually most of the time since the botched ending of Doomwar), and between Ridley, Coates, and Ewing, I've lost count of the number of times I've been misled by a promising first issue that turned out to be a disaster. But... I want to believe; Hill seems to finally be an author who loves Black Panther. Let's see what comes next.

I have not read a Spider-man comics as exciting and cool since Superior Spider-man.

You know what ? I like B-movies. This issue was not great, was not very smart, but it was like a very good, brainless b-movie of the 80 with Batman. And i'm up for that.

I'm a bit surprised by the reception of this arc: for me, it's been a long time since I've read an Avengers comics this good. Of course, there are flaws. The Ashen Combine isn't developed enough, the action is too scattered... but when you compare it to Jason Aaron's run, it's like night and day.

My only grip: it would have worked better as an Ultimate Punisher Series. But, it was very good.

The best Black Panther comics in a long time (however, a bit more risk-taking wouldn't hurt; we're in a new universe, the Storm-T'Challa relationship feels a bit déjà vu).

Most of the stories were not extraordinary. But these are new writers (for most of them, I think), in full progress. And the Superman story, “We Just Have to Make it to Spring.”, had a profound effect on me. And even though I'm not the biggest Superman fan, Because it's one of the most complicated superheroes to write correctly, when an author understands the character, it always makes for particularly touching, interesting and strong stories. For that one (and one or two other stories) it deserves a high rating.

Reminds me of Immortal Hulk (which is good) but it lacks the gut-punch of the first issue of Ewings. But it's vastly superior than the Cates issues, love the horror theme, and better that a lot of other comics.

Moon Knight is the new Daredevil. Even his worst issues are very good.

Like all "Queer" anthologies by DC or Marvel, it doesn't deserve such a high score by critics. As usual, some authors are clearly underwhelming, for example, the Midnighter story, one of my favorite hero, was abysmal (and I could never get used to Leah Williams' style) but there are a few stories that are clearly Beautiful, powerful and particularly emotional: Grant Morrison (even if, as usual, I didn't understand everything, and it's cool) Cantwell, a few newcomers... Clearly the best "DC PRIDE" anthology.

Good writing, but the art is not up to par...

It smells like editorial intervention "put on Black Panther, it'll sell more". But even if this issue is a bit below the first one, it's still pretty good.

Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #37 Nov 8, 2023

It was ok. We were promised an answer about who is stronger between Thor and Hulk, but despite the watcher's promise at the beginning, the answer remains vague (not that it's a problem, the stronger in this kind of story always depends on who the author chooses). My real problem is with the ending as a whole, everything goes too fast, it would have deserved one more installment.

Thor (2020) #27 Sep 29, 2022

It was decent and not agressively insulting to the fans of T'challa. And maybe it's the best we can get for a Black Panther book this day.

Mid.

I like Zdarsky but don't understand the hype for this run, but to each their own.

Edge of Spider-Verse (2023) #3 Jun 21, 2023

The guest artist for this issue is terrible. How can they pick such a bad artist for such an important character? And the story is starting to feel repetitive; it lacks surprises, and we're beginning to get bored. It's not a disaster yet, but they need to move forward because this run is losing more and more interest.

The problem is that the indian Spider-man of Across the spider-verse is better designed, much interesting, much fun... it's not fair, but this character suffer of the comparison with his animated counterpart in every aspect.

It's time to put a stop to these "crisis" events. To only give us fan-service and the same story, again and again.

Leah Williams has cool ideas, cool concepts, but she is not a good writer.

Thunderbolts (2023) #1 Dec 7, 2023

Hero vs hero fight. What a total lack of originality. Aaron managed to make his Avengers in this issue ineffective, stupid and unbearable at the same time. Quite a feat. After that, Bryan Hitch is still good and there is some action. It's not unreadable, but I can't wait for the end of this series.

Wyn is just a less relatable Doctor Strange, and there is not on sympathetic character in this comics.

Torunn Gronbekk is not a bad writer, and with time and experience she can be very good. But this is messy. She got a poisonned gift.I can't fault her too much because she's trying to salvage Cate's plot, but it's not good...

I really can't with Orlando. His stories are always disjointed, and he tries to write social commentaries in his X-Men, and it's ok (it's the X-men after all), but it's always heavy-handed and it lacks complexity.

I feel like I've read this story a dozen times, by better writers.

After this series, I take the bet: we will never heard of these characters again.

I understand what they wanted to do. But this is one of the most depressing Superman comics I've ever read. Mike Allred as always is excellent.

Yeah, it's Mariko Tamaki. One of the worst comics writer since maybe Gabby Rivera and Chuck Austen. But this comics has for him to not be aggressively bad, like a lot of her comics, it's just bland and boring. The artist is good, though.

It had started so well. But for a few issues now, I've been terribly bored; the overall quality, whether in terms of the artwork or the story, has significantly declined, and overall, it feels tedious, as if the story is going in circles. It seems like Philip Kennedy doesn't believe in it anymore.

What a mess.

Wow... Tini Howard must be stopped. And what happened to Zdarsky ? Are there any editors left at DC?

Damage Control (2022) #1 Aug 29, 2022

Loved the Krakoa era, but it's clear that without Hickman, the writers are completely lost. They don't know what to do, beside Ewing, the concept is too big for us. Time to go to a simpler concept, Marvel don't have anymore writers who can write this kind of projects.

Night Trasher vs shoplifters. Ok, not what I expected for this first issue (and the art is abysmal)

What If...? Dark (2023): Moon Knight #1 Aug 16, 2023

As usual, a bad "what if" with shallow, unambitious characters, and an arc that takes far too long to get to the point (if there is one). It's time Jason Aaron decided to conclude this arc, he's losing our interest fast.

There is a whole new generation of authors who know they are mediocre, but who have understood that in the age of social networks and polarized opinions you don't need to be good to sell: you just need to insult readers, pit the most radical ones against each other to get people talking, play the "meta" card, and then all you have to do is take advantage of hate-reading to make your sales. The proof that it works, I read this comic book even though it's probably the worst thing I've read this year.

Long time no read, but since when do the X-Men torture and kill their enemies for pleasure?

This issue was cool but nothing special. But I rate it 10 just to counterbalance the homophobes.
