What is there to say about Fiona's artwork that hasn't been said already? It's fantastic. Mesmerizing. Haunting. She's winning Eisners for it so you shouldn't need to look here in order to recognize what she's doing. We will continue to appreciate it and obsess over it and scratch our heads at how a series like this is still being sold for under 3 dollars. |

Deadly Class #6
Jun 24, 2014 |
Remender has delivered a story that is not only funny and fun to read, but it also packs a strong message about one person's journey to findwhat they're made of. Showing that running from your past can be far more damaging than facing the facts, Deadly class is a smart story as well as an enjoyable one. The first three pages are some of the most exciting pages to look at and read. A huge hole is left while this series is on break and I'm already looking forward to issue #7. |

Deadly Class #7
Sep 16, 2014 |
Not only are we getting a strong story with interesting, dangerous, and exciting characters, we're also getting a closer look at the things we all deal with yet don't vocalize. This book reads like an exaggerated story one might tell at a party, but with the grittiness and honesty of real life. You get so caught up in the action, the intrigue of it all, and you almost miss out on how down-to-earth this story really is; the realistic problems these kids deal with (along with problems not a lot of us have or would want). Remender and Craig continue to build upon the strength of their first arc and constantly bring love and hard work to this story as it moves forward. |

This series is doing everything right, and the readers are reaping the rewards. It's great to see these smartmale characters dismiss Velvet as just another woman when, in reality, she's strong enough and smart enough to kill them all. It's comics like this that show you how creativity and great storytelling are not dead. Hollywood may not see the need for strong female characters because they feel there isn't an audience for it, but comics are continuously showing us that that is definitely not the case. Let them have their Adam Sandler comedies and Tom Cruise action movies; I'll gladly take an issue of Velvet over them any day. |

Southern Bastards ends with a bloody all-out fight that allows for the next arc to go in any direction the artists please. It's an exciting ending and I, for one, cannot wait to see where Southern Bastards goes next. Jason has promised us that this is just the beginning, that there are more characters we haven't met yet and a lot more of Craw County to explore. Jan 29, 2015 |
More than just an action-packed crime story, High Crimes mixes reality, honesty, regrets, and redemption into a story that will take you places you weren't expecting. It delivers an honest message with authentic characters that you forget aren't real people while you're reading this comic. Paired with Moustafa's artwork, High Crimes is quietly doing what a lot of comics hope to achieve: entertaining their audience while giving them something to think about. |

Jun 4, 2014 |
Gabriel Hernandez Walta's art is nothing short of gorgeous. To be able to draw Magneto shopping for groceries and make it justas compelling to look at as the full page spreads of his past mayhem is atruly art. You add Jordie Bellaire's talent for coloring on top of that and what you have is an issue that subtly changes moods while offering readers the same strong story that they have loved so far. Last but not least is the lettering by VC'S Cory Petit that quietly enhances each page and knows when to break up sentences to make them stronger. It's just another facet that goes into this comic that makes it one I'm always looking forward to. |

Winter Soldier: The Bitter March #3
Apr 21, 2014 |
Each issue has been funny, interesting, and a great bit of storytelling, but part three has seen the most action. All the build up to these characters fighting each other has finally culminated in this "Who is stronger than who" battle. On top of all that, the train they are all on has been rigged with a bomb. Rick Remender's writing is downright enjoyable. When mixing action, comedy, and horror all together, it has to feel natural and he pulls it off perfectly. Nothing feels out of place in dialogue or intention and that creates an exciting read for its fans. |

Bennett does an amazing job at progressing the story while also giving an intense look into these character's backgrounds. While you're catching up on what has happened over the years, you're also watching things play out in real time. The desired effect is reached as you're finding more and more reasons to root for some characters and not trust others. While they're being tracked down and running for their lives, this daughter/father team must deal with their own past and their own feelings so the tension is being built up from two different angles. |

Panels that show you everything, but are just vague enough to be interpreted in numerous amounts of ways. I can't wait to see what the rest of this series has in store. The Bunker #5
Aug 5, 2014 |
Fialkov presents a story that gives us all of the facts, yet even we don't know what the right decision for these kids to make is. One false move, one character not joining with the others, and this whole thing could blow up right in their faces as all of their future problems haunt them once again. Adding to the tension is the artwork from Infurnari. The look he has created for this world is just as bleak as their futures. This story is just getting more and more crazy and it feels like the more we know, the less we actually know. |

Thor (2014) #5
Feb 11, 2015 |
This issue presents the art of Jorge Molina. Known mostly for doing amazing cover art for some of the biggest comics going, Jorge really flexes his muscle in this issue. A gorgeous splash page of a fight between Creel and Thor will make you stop in your tracks and admire everything about it. Able to take your breath away with full-page artwork and large scenes that come to life, Jorge can also do smaller panels that pack in a lot of comedy and heart-felt moments. He doesn't go overboard and give this issue a completely different look from the rest of the series, but throws his spin on things. You'll want to get this issue just for what he's able to put on the page. |

I was just having a conversation this morning about how artwork really makes or breaks a title. The story can be great but if what I'm looking at isn't visually appealing I'm more apt to not return to the title. Fortunately for me, I love the artwork just as much as I love the dialogue. Rosanas and Boyd really answer the call with hilarious deadpans, facial reactions to the action that cause you to laugh out loud, and epic fight scenes that flow seamlessly. Everything is working on this title and you really should go and pick it up. |

It can't be easy for them, but they're finding out more about themselves, and this thing, then they ever would have known otherwise. I'm interested to see where this story goes; even though it covered a lot of ground in its first issue, it left a lot to be answered. I have read it a few times now and like it more and more each time through. This comic isn't going to come out and tell you what's going on; readers will have to do a little detective work and reading between the lines on their part, but I found that to be fun. I'm interested to see how the first arc unfolds and where Higgins and Siegel take these characters. Not what I was expecting, but that might be better. |

You have to give Higgins and Siegel a lot of credit. They have taken the superhero story and turned it on its ear. These characters aren't just flying around and using their powers to stop crime (hell, some characters don't even have powers) but they are dealing with real struggles like their children not looking up to them, their wives wanting them to get legitimate police jobs, and whether or not you stay loyal or do what's best for yourself.Issue one left me feeling wanting more, and I got what I asked for with issue #2. |

The best thing about this comic is, as you're reading, you can tell how much fun these two creators are having, and they quickly include you in on the party. Semahn has promised that the story gets far crazier after this point and, after you read it, you'll be excited to see where they'll go with it. |

Love the final panel of this issue. Evely delivers a shocking final scene that will have you dying to see what happens next. Evely's artwork looks vintage and new at the same time. It's hard to explain, but it's wonderful to look at. Her style, along Walker's ability to not sugarcoat any of the story and deliver a gritty and exciting comic, is what will make me keep coming back for more. I'm sure a lot of people didn't pick this up because they had never seen the movies, but you don't have to in order to enjoy this series. This is Walker's rendition of the well-known story, and it's fantastic. |

Oct 14, 2014 |
So much fun. Seriously. Every single issue is another journey into my own past as Gibson and Hesse tackle it with a hilarious spin. From trying to get his license, to living out Street Fighter, and now learning the perils of a game we all didn't give much thought to once the bell rang, The Amazing World of Gumball is brilliantly passing down our memories to the kids of today. I hope this series never ends so I can keep living out my childhood experiences with an adult perspective. |

Another fun issue that makes adults look back on the mischief of their childhood while encouraging kids to enjoy every moment of their youth. |

Beautiful artwork and amazing writing make this comic a must-read. While there is action, danger, and intrigue, there's also a commentary on what we've done to our own planet, how we all need someone to watch our back and protect us, no matter how strong we think we are. It will be interesting to see Cosmos and Thulu come face-to-face, as their inevitable battle draws near. |

When you open this book, just get ready for one of the craziest rides you've ever been on. Keller and Neely make no apologies as they trash the proverbial hotel room that is the traditional comic book format. Monkey erections, humans referred to as “skins”, all out parties, drinking and drugs. Keller keeps the words flowing while Neely fills the pages with humorous and insane imagery. Kristina packs in the colors, making every panel its own little acid trip as bright colors fill the background and push the character to the forefront. Say what you want about this title, one thing is for sure: these artists are giving you their all. They're also making it as fun as possible as from cover-to-cover this series has the feel of a non-stop party. |

Love the way that when “Mate” is used in this comic it has an apostrophe before it. A creative twist on an old word. It's little things like that that catch my eye every time I read through this series. Then there are the things that are more in-your-face. Such as Johnny eating a tarantula, watching his comrades lose their limbs and heads, not being able to enjoy the company of women or friends without seeing some disgusting version of someone who died or meant him harm. This whole series is like an acid trip in the best way possible. |

Tim Seeley's writing never ceases to impress. Twenty issues in and we're still learning about these characters that we already love. Revival is truly a story that never lets its readers down and, instead, keeps coming up with new surprises for them to deal with. On top of all that, Mike Norton's art is fantastic. Being able to balance drawing a fun scene on one page that will have you laughing, and the very next beinga grotesque action scene that will cause you to gasp, truly takes an artistic talent and he does it without missing a beat. Jenny Frison's cover on this issue is equally hilarious and could easily be framed and hung on a wall. If you haven't gotten into this series at this point, I implore you to do so immediately. You shouldn't be missing out on what is one of the more original comics around. |

Original Sin #8
Sep 3, 2014 |
We find out who killed The Watcher, and we see how the characters will progress moving forward. I enjoyed that this issue didn't have as many unanswered questions, but it did still leave some things to be discovered later. You're not going to get a tightly wrapped package with this series, but you will learn a few things as light is shed on Fury's past and why he does the things he does. This title hascast a shadow of doubt on every Marvel superhero going forward and could play out to be very interesting in future series. |

I enjoy Gillen's sense of humor and writing so I'm hoping that I will slowly get into this and feel like a fool for ever having not liked it. McKelvie's art is vibrant and fun to look at. The lettering by Cowles is, as always, perfect for the story. Even with all these talented people though, the issue just didn't strike a chord with me. |

You mix in the perfection that is Matthew Wilson's coloring and the way Clayton Cowles's lettering heightens the talent on every comic he works on, what you're left with is a second issue that is leaps-and-bounds above the first and will no doubt bring in readers, like myself, that were either on the fence or completely against it. We were wrong, doubters. We were wrong to not like it. |

Santos's artwork is awesome. A noir, pulp feel that doesn't come off as tired. He breaks his panels up in such an interesting and inventivewaythat it turns a normal page into something you can't stop looking at. The final panel, mixed with the last bit of narration, was truly unsettling and, if you're not hooked by then, this series isn't for you. |

While this story is lighter in tone at the moment, it looks as though it could head down some dark paths sooner than later. It will be interesting to see where these creators take Silk as it could go in any possible direction right now. For a first issue, it's good. Got me rooting for the main character, made the villain's story interesting as well (that appears to be a pretty dark story), and didn't overburden the dialogue by trying to be too funny all the time. Let's see if Silk becomes a long-lived character at Marvel. |

The first issue packs a lot of story into a small space and promises that there is a lot of action ahead. I just wish that they would slow it down a bit and spread all of this story over a longer period of time. I feel readers of this series, and fans of the books and video games, would be patient enough to not need everything handed to them at a frenetic pace. If they can do this over the next four issues, The Witcher has a very good chance at becoming a comic series that I won't want to miss out on. |

The story as a whole felt rushed. We are in a bar, then we're meeting a priest with a demon sidekick. Then we're meeting a team of “blessed” people. It all happens so fast. Much like when the team is being introduced and you don't know who is who because the names are being said but no one is focused on in panel, this issue seems to be confused and never quite worked its way out of it. Things might turn around in later issues, now that they've given most of the backstory, but it's an uninspiring first issue that doesn't really leave me wanting more. |

A lot of the problem I had with this issue is they focus so much on the main characters, that they don't have supporting characters to help move the story along in a natural and fluid way. The art is much the same way; whatever is in the forefront is given a lot of detail and everything in the background was just kind of put there so it wasn't a white page. If the same amount of attention was given to the backgrounds, it would be able to transport you into their world. Instead you have to avoid looking too long at panels so you don't get frustrated. I hope these issues get fixed as they move along with the story, but, as of right now, I can't say I'm going to follow it. |
