Verdict Batman: White Knight was special. The beginning of this new chapter of White Knight is like “The Empire Strikes Back” It's going to eclipse the White Knight. Think about when Frank Miller got his mitts on Batman. Sean Murphy has the same hold on Batman and it is a white knuckle thriller. Go back and get White Knight. But make sure you get into this ground floor issue of Batman: Curse of the White Knight. Bring Azrael into the fray is magnificent. Read Full Review
Time will tell if this is a worthy sequel to the original series, but so far it is a welcome return to form. Read Full Review
As opening chapters go, Batman: Curse Of The White Knight #1 is a darned strong one. There are classic Batman and Joker moments, some deep – yet necessary – emotional moments, great dialogue and terrific art. The version of Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael that's introduced feels like a vintage, yet also brand-new at the same time, iteration of the character. I can't believe that Mr. Valley has been around for 27 years this year! I'm so old… but comics as good as this one make me feel young again. Read Full Review

It was just under two years ago that Batman: White Knight #1 came out and a little over a year since the final issue, yet it feels like we've been waiting forever for Sean Murphy's story to return. I'm honestly chomping at the bit for the next issue of this series, with everything put towards world-building in issue one. The stage is set for one of the most fun runs of our modern Batman lore. Read Full Review

Batman: Curse of the White Knight is a deep cut, shining a light on all aspects of the Batman mythos. The very fabric of a city, religion, the definition of a hero are explored. The first issue sets the pieces in place for another epic story arc that reconsiders how we look at Batman. Writer Sean Murphy continues to prove his prowess as an artist in several respects with Batman: Curse of the White Knight Book One. Read Full Review
Overall, Curse of the White Knight is another very strong start to the White Knight mythos, and something you should get your hands on if you are a fan of the first series. Sean Gordon again tackles both writing/art duties and neither area suffers as a result of the man taking on a double work load here. From great character designs, to a unique feeling and setting, with a creative story expanding on a great Batman elseworld tale its all here. $4.99 can be spent in much much worse ways. There's a lot still to be answered here, but Murphy's art is brilliant from the first page to the last and it seems like this next chapter will be faster to get started and no less brutal. Read Full Review
The comic is an improvement on the previous volume. It delivers an intriguing mystery that goes its own way while building off of the myth we already know. Cures of the White Knight delivers a straightforward Batman story that plays to Murphy's strengths. It shows growth as a writer and how to create a new volume that's both new reader-friendly and has a little extra for those who have been along for the ride. Read Full Review
Though a less bombastic premier than that of its predecessor,Batman: Curse of the White Knight #1 is nevertheless a fine debut for Sean Murphy's latest Batman. This is a comic that sets you down one way of thinking while still leaving you acutely aware that it could end up going absolutely anywhere. And thats one of the many reasons it seems poised to become every bit as awesome as its predecessor. Read Full Review
Overall this is a set-up issue and there seems to be more There seems to be something more to how Joker ended up breain store for future issues. Because the way Joker has been interacting with the rest of the characters seemed to indicate there is much more to this history than we can already perceive. Those questions as to Batman and Joker's history helps make this world that Murphy is creating something that readers want to come back and learn about. Read Full Review
I thoroughly enjoyed Batman: The White Knightbut this issue is not as strong of a start as I was hoping for. That being said, the final pages showing us what is to come, something that has already been teased on the cover and within the marketing for the book, was spectacular. I will be picking up the next issue and if you enjoyed the Batman: The White KnightI recommend picking this up. That being said, don't go in without doing your homework or expect this to be an easy jumping-on point. Read Full Review
Batman: Curse of the White Knight #1 already has a very interesting world to play with, and hopefully Murphy uses this sequel to hone in on the themes that made the original so great. Read Full Review
It’s not easy being good in a world gone mad, but one would expect a little bit more fireworks to the inner conflicts that have established Batman: Curse of the White Knight #1. While the return to Sean Murphy’s dark world looks great and opens with a bang, the slow reintroduction of Batman, the Joker, and new wild card Azrael (with a new origin to boot) just doesn’t have the same spark as watching a newly sane Joker cleaning up the city. Despite the mega hit debut that spawned it, the real Curse of the White Knight might foretell a follow-up slump. Read Full Review
Love the way Sean turns Batman history on its head
Loved it! Azrael seems to have let himself go but is stronger than he seems, so it’ll be great to see more of him. The dialogue and the artwork for Batman and the Joker was top notch.
It's amazing!!! Though this is mostly a set up issue but it's a tribute to batman mythos. It's a definite pick if you picked the first issue.
It's been a while since I've read Batman: White Knight. It was an excellent and self-contained Batman story that ended cleanly. I never thought that the White Knight story would see or need a sequel. I feel that way regardless of how this story turns out.
The Murphyverse is Sean Gordon Murphy's imprint and feels like the spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series. I like Murphy but I think his profile is slightly overrated by people in my #Comicsgate circle because he's not a twat on social media. This is not a slight on him as an artist. I find his art to be interesting but It's not my favorite. How the story lands for you will also depend on your nostalgia for Batman: TAS. If you're a fan of the classic stories you'll more
Well if it isn’t my old arch nemesis: cursive😐😐😐.
Ooh damn. Already an improvement over white knight in terms of pacing. Whatever Murphy has cooking for the story has me excited.
"It was my only job, and i failed ! And the only reason i finally saw my mistake was because my greatest enemy rubbed in my face."
Damn, that was awesome. Murphy really is one of the best artist out there and he is one hell of a writer too
Pretty good start for a first issue. Joker is back in action, loved the jail break and Batman deducing his escape. Moving forward, I guess there's going to be a lot to catch up on the mystery of Gotham's curse very much involving Bruce Wayne, Azrael and Joker.
Batslevania.
Another promising run from Sean Murphy.
It's an intriguing story with nice art.
good first issue. Art is great as always, and I like the setup they're going with Joker and Azrael. My complaint about this issue is it is very short compared to the other black label titles. I was expecting around 40 pages, but this was just the normal length of a comic book
I loved the original series, so I'm happy to see it's back.
Once again, Sean Murphy gets crazy with his ideas and makes us think differently about the Wayne family. And just like last time, it was interesting.
This was a set-up issue, so there wasn't a lot of action, but I think Murphy did a great job and I'm excited to see where this series will go.
And as usual, Murphy's art was great. I love how he draws his characters.
Good History, but not more than that.
I was expecting a different than the normal batman history following the previous saga. I have hope that the next books will be better.
It's very interesting! But I think White Knight is pretty damn good than this. But we'll see
Not as an interesting start as the White Knight was, but good still. I'm interested to see where this will go.
I didn’t like White Knight much. Harley was annoying& unbelievable in it& it did a bad job with the other villains. The first issue of the sequel was good though. Joker is finally acting more like Joker, Harley thankfully wasn’t in it ( wouldn’t be surprised if she shows up later though), but I’m not sure what to think of Joker‘s Napier personality. This makes him look like a Two Face 2.0.
Azrael ( Jean Paul Valley) was well portrayed in this issue, so this teases an interesting story coming up. Overall I hope this will be better than White Knight.
I wasn't a huge fan of the original series. Seems this one will be about as good though. It's pretty good. I'm not loving it but it's not a chore to read either.
Eh. I didn’t love the first series. We’ll see.
I was very disappointed in the first series and unfortunately did not enjoy the first issue of this one either.
