Couldn't agree more, a great book!
The groundbreaking new series from the creators of The Sherriff of Babylon and BATMAN #14-15 continues. The insanity of war is the insanity of Mister Miracle. Darkseid and Orion's forces clash violently on the battlefields of New Genesis. Stained with blood and glory, the New Gods fight on. As they move closer to victory, Scott and Barda begin to see that every step forward leads them into a deadly trap. Where do you run when the path ahead is your enemy's triumph and the path behind is your family's defeat?
There is so much subtle storytelling here. The use of stories from Scott's memory, the references to Dr. Bedlam, the shaky, fuzzy depictions of panels, all tell the story without forcing any exposition on the reader. This is a book that trusts its readers to just get what is presented to them through the images. King and Gerads continue to tell a fantastic psychological drama with an emotional depth that will not let you put this comic down. Read Full Review
Mister Miracle #3 is another strong entry in a twisted, dark saga to expert creators are telling. Read Full Review
So continue buying this series... then buy it in hardcover... then again in trade paperback to give to your friend. This is the best series going on in comics right now. Read Full Review
Okay, seriously, just buy this one, guys. You won't regret it, unless the therapy bills get too high. Mister Miracle #3 is beautiful, it is haunting, it is disturbing, and it's one of the best comics I've read in 2017. Read Full Review
King, Gerads and Cowles are interrogating this world - while still being respectful of Jack "The King" Kirby - digging into the core of New Genesis and Apokolips, planets ruled by gods and fuelled by the exploitation of slave armies to unearth the harsh realities of both. They've already found plenty of rich veins, and there's still so many left to mine as the series continues. Read Full Review
As for those who say this comic doesn't live up to its hype, my (not so) humble opinion is that they're flat-out wrong. It does that and much more, and I am certain it will be considered one of the greatest comic books of our era. Anyone who calls themselves a comic book fan, or even a consumer of important contemporary media, and does not read this comic is making a huge mistake, and doing themselves a grave disservice. I'm still not fully sure whats going on here, but I do know enough that I like it. Mister Miracle isnt the average comic and its one of the strongest monthly titles DC has going today. Read Full Review
Tom King and Mitch Gerads are giving us Game of Thrones in space. I gotta repeat, this isn't just a stale rehash of the beef between New Genesis and Apokolips. This is a war. I repeat, this is a fucking war. Mofos are getting got out here. By the time it's all said and done, Mister Miracle will be the gateway comic you give to newcomers to introduce them to great story telling, grounded gritty art, and the psychology of rebuilding a character for the modern time. Three issues in, Mister Miracle is unquestionably one of the best books DC is currently publishing. This series continues to offer a fascinating glimpse into the mind of one very troubled god. It manages to blend mundane human drama with epic cosmic spectacle and royal family intrigue. This is another beautifully rendered and expertly structured issue. The prospect of nine more is very appealing. Read Full Review
This story continues to captivate. Both the art and narrative are viscerally interesting and keep the reader both entertained and intrigued about what it all means. Read Full Review
This book is a treat to read carefully, looking for hints or clues about what's really going on. Mister Miracle is faced with the most dangerous trap of his career, and I can hardly wait to see how he escapes. Read Full Review
The team-up of King and Gerards continues to astound. Now that we are three issues, you can tell that a lot of love is going into this comic series and that we are all the better for it. King’s writing is a cut above most other series at this time and Gerards art continues to be the perfect complement. Read Full Review
The static panels are back. Yes! I love seeing those static panels, it gives me that acknowledgment that there is something really messed up with Scott Free's mind. Read Full Review
I am liking where this is headed and I can't wait to see what comes next. Read Full Review
King and Gerards are firing on all cylinders and if I get this kind of series every few years from someone like Tom King similar to The Omega Men and this then I'm going to be a very happy comic book reader for years to come. Read Full Review
Some sequences, however are not as strong. For example, the page where Mister Miracle climbs the crane would have been better told had Gerads used a vertical nine panel grid system, or simply three panels read from the bottom up. It is true that most readers would have started from the top but the page would have been more elegant. Such pages show the limits of the nine-panel grid. Breaking it into a three-panel vertical grid would have been better. It makes me worry that the nine-panel grid is being fetishized instead of used as an effective storytelling tool. Read Full Review
Mister Miracle is getting weird, but it hasn't lost me yet. The newest issue really ups the sense that nothing is as it seems, but what we do see is really fun to read. Read Full Review
While it seems that Tom King still wants to keep his cards close to the chest, this issue was interesting enough to get me back onboard the series. Mitch Gerads great art helped matters and I am now back on the Mister Miracle trolley. I just hope I can stay on for the remainder of the journey. Read Full Review
If you're not a big Fourth World fan (because I'm not) don't let that stop you from picking up this book. Tom King and Mitch Gerards are making something great and you don't want to miss it. Read Full Review
Mister Miracle #3 was a disappointing read. King has the kernel of what could be a really interesting story. However, the execution is so poor that it ruins the potential of the story. The problem is exacerbated by the artwork in this issue. I would not recommend Mister Miracle to readers who are long time Jack Kirby fans. Nor would I recommend Mister Miracle #3 to long time Fourth World fans. I would not recommend Mister Miracle #3 to fans of mainstream super hero comics. However, I would definitely recommend Mister Miracle #3 to readers who are fans of indie comics and indie style super hero comics. Read Full Review
Every time I finish reading an issue of Mister Miracle I'm always speechless.
Just as with King's other masterpiece 'Vision', I don't know where this is going, or what's the final goal. But the trail is so god damn interesting...
I just have no word to describe how great this series is. No words I can think of to define what this comic stirs inside me. It's just a perfect balance of everything. THe art is definitely the best I've seen in a comic, ever. The story is beautifully paced and includes humour, drama, action, emotions and often without actual dialogue! I love Tom King, but this series shines the most because of Gerads. If the 12 issues are like this, we are on board for a landmark in comic books history. I can't help but feel like how people must have felts while reading Watchmen when it came out. Just perfect.
A devastating opening monologue and accompanying visuals. Gerads' backgrounds are more intricate, with more vibrant colors than previous issues. A perfect single issue.
Another great issue in this 12 issue maxi-series!
Weird as f$%#...I love it!!!
Incredible. Between King's storytelling and Gerads's illustrations, this book just *does it for me. It's captivating, dramatic, funny, sad, hopeful, and satisfying all in one comic. I look forward to Mr. Miracle each month, and it's always at the top of my pile when I sit down to read.
In what really doesn't surprise me at all this is easily the best book I read this week. Some major developments happen here, I believe, and there's a "Christmas Story" that really sticks with you. If you're not following this series right now I really don't know what to tell you!
♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ We wish you a merry Darkseid, we wish you a merry Darkseid, we wish you a merry Darkseid, and Granny Goodness too... ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬
Without repeating what other's have said, this book is a wonderful piece of art. The characters' emotions are portrayed so perfect, that you easily feel what they are feeling. Being Scott is suffering.
Better than the last issue. What matters here is it feels like more is happening. Scott has become a bit more aware and worrisome and it is clear he is being taken for a ride. What isn’t clear is exactly how that’s happening. That’s not a bad thing, though, and once again I’m consoled by the fact that we have nine whole more issues to flesh this out. I think the pace we have now is alright. Art continues to be terrific.
A work of art. Swallow the paranoid pill.
It keeps going in a worse direction to portray the disarray of Scott Free and his life going against his mental anguish in the face of Orion and Darkseid but It doesn't work for me. Mitch Gerards's art fits this well but it doesn't elevate the story for me but it's very good.
It probably is a big deal that I am not familiar enough with the New Gods mythos/canon but this just did not fully connect with me which is also a responsibility of the storytelling. An annotated version would no doubt definitely improve the appreciation of the developments but probably should not factor into the first read rating. There are probably a lot of clues there. The art was okay. If this does end up to be some grand illusion/delusion then here's hoping the payoff reveal is great enough to make up for all the drama of these deaths that did not happen after all. I'll still check out next ish...
Overated.
So I liked the 1 even if it was dark. I didn't enjoy issue too. For making my mind I brought issue 3.
And there I'm ... There is some good stuff, and stuff I really didn't like.
For the part I love ... The art, even if sometime I have trouble to see if I read correctly the double page in waffle.
I like to see Forager even if that make my head hurt. I have to remember this is a story not in the continuity, so this Forager isn't the one dead in Cosmic Odysey. And he isn't the one in "Bug ! Adventure of Forager" (Who is also out of continuity, like I tell my head hurt).
I cope with Scott felling, and I love to see him with Barda (Damn I need something like that too !).
But I don't like the part when Lighray kill or cap more
