There is nothing that I did not personally love about Amazing Spider-Man #42. Readers be warned, most of this issue is about Gog, as it serves as the Origin of Gog. Therefore, Spider-man does not appear that much in this book, although that did not take away from how good the story was, in my opinion. I really enjoyed this issue because it was heartfelt, fresh, and it provides background to a character that I did not know much about. The origin of Gog was interesting and I am definitely excited to see him in more books after this issue. I have not been the biggest fan of Spencer's Spidey run, but I think this was one of his strongest issues to date. Though I was not the biggest fan of the 'lifeline tablet' story line, I really liked how it connected to the origin of Gog, giving the overall arc a greater scope and purpose. The artwork by Ottley is solid, and feels true of a Spidey book. I am going to give this one a light 10/10, because I really enjoyed this issue. This one definitely has me excited for the next one, and for more Gog!

This issue surpassed all my expectations. I really enjoyed Ove's origin story and felt that it was quite compelling. Ove shares many of the qualities readers enjoy about Namor, while also possessing his own unique personality traits. Take that and mix it in with some enchantress and you've got an interesting new villain! The artwork was solid and added to the emotion and weight of the story. This was arguably my favorite issue of Thompson's entire run (issue #8 was also amazing) and I look forward to more. 10/10

Immortal Hulk #32 Mar 26, 2020

I really enjoyed Immortal Hulk #32 and #33. Since I read both of them together in one sitting, this review will apply to both issues, but I will only post it on #33. Firstly, it's good to see the story picking back up again as we delve into the implicit destruction that Xenmu has been dishing out. One thing I would especially like to note about these two issues, is that the author seems to be once again evoking those feelings of horror, and gore, and I love it. It's good to see some of the visceral images that we know Bennett is capable of make a return to the book, those splash pages will be remembered. Also, the return of a certain Hulk, whom I will not reveal, was a welcome surprise and also steered the story in a direction I was not expecting. Overall, this character was a welcome addition to an already stellar band of heroes. You begin to see Xenmu's plan really unfold, while also making progress in way of the Roxxon arc. However, one thing I personally appreciate, was the jaw-dropping ending of #33, what a way to get readers excited for what is to come. Overall, I think this series is nearly back up to the standard it set for itself with the first 12 issues, and I can not wait to see what is to come. I give #32 a 9 and #33 a 10.

This title has everything you could possibly want from a comic book; impeccable visuals, rich storytelling that is engaging as well as interesting, and a great balance of action and plot. Artist Nic Klein impresses even more with every single panel, his rendering of Galactus is incredible and will be appreciated and remembered for some time. This title stirs up feelings and vibes that are reminiscent of the 'Thanos Wins' storyline that was done by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw not too long ago. It seems this will be another Hero-defining run as Klein and Cates make their mark on one of Marvel's most epic superheroes. Thor (2020) has me excited and eager to run to my LCS on release days. 10/10, looking forward to the showdown in the next issue.

This was one of my favorite anniversary events yet. To start, I honestly enjoyed all the jokers stories in this book. Each brings with it their own unique tone and artwork, while presenting their own take on Joker and the themes which emerge from the character. There were some genuinely cool moments in this story which pay tribute to historic moments in DC, such as the moments which occur prior to the "Killing Joke" to give an example. I found myself really enjoying the origin of Punchline, and I felt that Janin was the perfect choice to bring that work to life with his vivid imagery. Another story that really resonated with me was an elseworlds Joker story, which has some cool surprises. Overall, this was an awesome book and I honestly did not mind grabbing a variant because in my opinion, the book was well worth the price of admission.

Death Metal #1 is an awesome first issue. Surprisingly, this issue is unlike many of Snyder's first issues in that there is not as much exposition as usual, which is a welcome addition. Instead, the issue features glimpses into a world that is largely conquered by Perpetua and her stooge the Batman Who Laughs. The premise for this event is interesting, and the stakes seem to be high. The issue features some awesome moments for different characters like Batman and Wonder Woman. Also, it is always nice to see Swamp Thing get some love in an event. Additionally, there were some new batmen characters featured in this comic book, and for that reason alone this book is worth getting. This issue sets up what looks to be an exciting event going forward with lots of action. This is one I enjoyed and I am looking forward to more. 9/10.

I was looking forward to DCeased: Dead Planet because I really enjoyed the first DCeased event. I gotta say, Tom Taylor continues to amaze with this elseworld tale. Following the events of DCeased, our heroes have created a new Justice League and receive an alert from a tracer which has them return to Earth on a mission. The stakes are high, and knowing how Taylor has killed of a great deal of characters in the first outing, no one is safe here, adding a real sense of weight and excitement to every page because each panel could be a character's final panel. This is a very exciting event which is not afraid of taking risks and avoids being cliche for the most part. A high recommendation and an enjoyable read. 9/10

The action began to ramp up in this issue as we see the Hulk take on one of the monsters, while also making sense of the Minotaur's plan. Also, we get to see more of Hulk's plan unfold through the eyes of his friends, Betty and Samson. There were some epic visuals, due to a fantastic job from artist Joe Benett, who always brings consistency and a presence of horror to the book. In the final panel, Ewing does a great job of setting up what is going to come in the next issue. 9/10.

Once again, Donny cates and Nic Klein deliver a dynamic, action packed comic book. In this issue, the plot centers around Beta Ray Bill vs Thor, as Bill believes Thor is a traitor for helping Galactus. The panels are astonishing, with Klein delivering several detailed splash pages depicting the battle. I also appreciated Klein's rework of Bill's costume, as I like the new design. Cates provides some solid work but the plot does not advance much in this issue. However, the action is great and there is an interesting twist at the end. 9/10

I really enjoyed this issue. The focus of the series remains on Thor's tenure as king, and how that has shaped and/or distorted this notion of "worthiness". The shift from focusing on Thor to Throg was a welcome addition to this issue. Solid artwork, and a fun dynamic between Thor/Loki and Thor/Throg. Also, great to see Huginn and Muninn finally being utilized, as Cates said they would play a tertiary role in his run. Last page has me excited for next issue's quest! 9/10.

My first thought prior to reading this issue was concern regarding Frankie's aging. Luckily, that is explained early on in this issue. I really enjoyed the first issue of X-men/Fantastic Four by Zdarsky and Dodson. I found the artwork to be consistent, and likened it to Larraz and Silva's work on the House of X series. I really enjoyed the characterization of Kate and Franklin in this issue. Credit must go to Zdarsky as a writer, as he knows how to create a compelling plot without forcing anything. The story progresses naturally and flows smoothly. I was sold on the miniseries from the start, but the end of this issue has me even more excited than I was before. 9/10

This issue of Amazing Spider-Man was not as strong as last week's, however, it was still a great issue all around. The story continues right where it left off in the last issue, with spidey and boomerang caught in the middle of gog. The end of this issue was unexpected and has me interested to see what happens next. Also, the issue features some welcome light-heartedness, as opposed to the influx of kindred drama in recent issues.

I really enjoyed the first issue of this new Ant-Man miniseries by Wells, Burnett, and Spicer. The issue nails the characterization of Stinger (Stature), and Scott. Now living in an unconventional place, Scott is looking for bigger jobs so that he could make some money and find an apartment. The issue has some solid artwork, and colors are vibrant, really bringing the world to life. The script is comedic and the jokes worked for me. Also, there are some interesting new villains introduced at the end of the issue which could serve as the main villains for the miniseries, I am assuming. All in all, I am looking forward to the next issue. 8.5/10

I have been looking forward to this issue for quite a while, and it does not disappoint! The story begins to ramp up with Tynion showing us more of the Designer's plan. The artwork is solid. For those waiting to see more of punchline, we get more of her here, and she finally gets to meet Harley Quinn. One thing I really enjoyed about this issue was the dialogue from all the characters, especially some of the exchanges between Batman and Deathstroke. This issue is exciting and ends on a cliffhanger, and I am sure many fans will be even more excited for the next issue. 8.5/10 and I am happy to be excited about the Batman title once again. In my opinion, this is definitely much more exciting and feels more 'Batman' than King's run.

This issue of batman features the penultimate chapter of the 'Dark Designs' storyline and it was quite an enjoyable issue. Firstly, I read this issue twice to fully appreciate the scale and nuance that Tynion brings to his Batman story, and there is plenty. Arriving at this point of his first 'Batman' story arc, he has added a number of characters, gadgets, tricks, and tropes to make this run feel as if it were truly his own and is something I really enjoy. Tynion utilizes all the characters well to add a sense of weight to his storyline. Batman's world is really falling apart here, setting up the chaos we are sure to experience in the upcoming 'Joker War' story arc. There is an exciting battle between Punchline and Harley Quinn which will leave fans excited for more. We get to see Tynion play with the underbroker more, to get a sense of the character and their place in the Gotham mythos. The issue features great moments with Batman and the Designer which take unexpected turns. The artwork by Guillerm March is fantastic and he brings an interesting quality to the joker, preserving his elegant clownlike manner while also managing to capture his e sadistic and twisted nature, even through a phone call. Overall, this issue was great and has me very excited for the Joker War. 8.5/10

Batman: Dark Age (2024) #2 Apr 24, 2024

I really enjoyed this issue and I appreciated the fact that it was not a throwaway issue, but rather an issue which ties into the storyline of the main Batman title. Additionally, the story introduces some background information on other characters we have seen appear in earlier issues of the Batman title, such as Mr. Teeth and Gunsmith. Of all the stories in the book, I felt that the Mr. Teeth story was the weakest, because it felt like it did not have much going on for it. However, the other storylines in this issue were very enjoyable and had some moments that should not be missed. Among them is the Joker meeting with Deathstroke to discuss a potential deal, with a surprise appearance from Punchline! If you are interested in the 'Joker War' storyline, then I would recommend picking up this issue because it shows you some of the plot threads which take place in Batman. Not all of the artwork in this issue appealed to my tastes, but it remains a solid issue nonetheless. 8.5/10.

Great issue. I am still not a fan of forced tie-ins to existing events, but I love me some babs/dick centric issues. I am glad Tom Taylor is finally advancing this relationship forward, as we have had years of writers beating around the bush. Also, word to the wise, just because you enjoy babs/dick doesn't mean you can't enjoy the kori/dick dynamic. I appreciate each of them for their differences and effects on shaping Dick as an individual. 8.5/10.

This issue was another prelude to the Joker War. The issue features the aftermath of the Two-Face and Batman conflict from last issue, which takes some unexpected and enjoyable turns. Additionally, the issue shows more of Joker's plans and how he intends to take down the batman. Personally, I am a fan of the Court of Owls, so to see them included was a welcome addition. Walker's artwork is solid and I feel that he brings an added element of horror to the Joker. His character really looks and feels decrepit and twisted. Overall, this issue was very enjoyable and ends with a cliffhanger that will be sure to have readers on the edge of their seat for the next issue. Not to mention, there features the return of a bat-villain that hasn't been around for a bit of time, which is always exciting. 8/10

Batman/Superman #9 is a solid issue as it presents a first look at a new villain, the Ultra-Humanite. Silly name perhaps. However, Sanchez's artwork does a fine job of bringing him to life, and the story sets up an interesting premise around atomic skull.

Art feels rushed in this issue. I am enjoying the story so far but I feel like too many pages and a great deal of focus are being placed on Jon and Jay's relationship as opposed to fleshing out this new role for Jon as the "Superman" of Earth. It seems like the next issue (annual #1) will introduce Lex Luthor into the mix, which could make things more interesting. 7.5/10.

This issue featured the conclusion to Tynion's "The Dark Designs" and while it was not a terrible issue, it was the weakest chapter of this storyline. The main purpose of this issue is to set up the joker war, which it does so effectively. However, there are sluggish moments which slow down the momentum that was being built in previous issues. For starters, the conversation between Catwoman and Batman felt it was misplaced. I understand Tynion is trying to show how vulnerable Batman is following the death of alfred, but at times he can be a bit verbose when discussing the matter in his issues, especially when Bats is climbing random parts of gotham introspecting, and the issue ends with pretty much that. There were still some interesting moments in this issue, like Joker and Punchline sharing some devilish moments with Batman. Also, there are subtle moments of foreshadowing with Deathstroke, pointing to the notion that this joker war event will have grand consequences for gotham city and its people. One thing I really appreciate is how much Tynion's Batman is much more reflective of the Batman we have grown to love and understand under editors like Denny O'Neil, here we see the calculative, determined, and traumatized DETECTIVE who will do whatever it takes to save his city. Overall, the issue was good but it felt like it slowed down some of the momentum leading in to joker war. Still, I am looking forward to Joker War. 7/10

Personally, I was not the greatest fan of this story arc. It felt silly for someone along the lines of Harvey Dent at times (Church). There were some interesting plot threads in this storyline, but I felt they could have been executed much better. However, there were still some good moments in this issue, like that Batman moment with the chidlren at the hospital, and the artwork was still great. The Joker War preview was exciting as well, 7/10.

You can tell the artwork was rushed this issue. I am a fan of Tynion, but honestly, it feels like he's focusing more on his indie titles, substack, NHOTL, and joker. However, I do find that I am enjoying Miracle Molly more with each issue. 6.5/10.

Batman (2016): Fear State: Alpha #1 Aug 31, 2021

The artwork as always was fantastic, however I felt there were certain issues with the story. Snyder retains his bloated exposition-heavy writing, and the resolution within the story felt unearned and sudden (Superboy Prime). Still a fun and silly read.

I enjoyed the first two stories of this book, however there is undeniably a great deal of issues with this book. For starters, what is the purpose of this book? Because beyond the first two stories, which are about the Darkest Knight and Robin King respectively, there is no cohesion or purpose to the book. The rest of the stories featured are about two to three pages of nonsense. They do not add much to the lore of the characters or the event itself, and when you are paying 5.99 for such a book you would feel as if you would want something of more substance and quality. While I can appreciate the first two stories, there is no denying that the "I Am Here" storyline is a massive exposition dump. I mean literally half the story are splash pages of exposition, which add nothing to anyone who is familiar with the metal/death metal storyline. The "King of Pain" storyline is by far the best in this book, though I can see some people having issues with Riley Rossmo's artwork in that story. Personally, I did not mind as I felt it added to the sinister nature the story was trying to tell. Overall, this book is cool if you want to read the Robin King storyline, but beyond that I did not see much point for this book. 6/10

Filler. Inconsistent artwork on the Venom Beyond story arc. Cates took interesting characters like Codex and Virus and just made them completely useless. The "emotional breakthrough" to solve the conflict within this arc felt cheap and silly. I was very hyped for King in Black, I still am, but not as much as before. This arc started out so well, but ended as a mess. Hopefully King in Black is a step up. 6/10

I spent my entire time reading this book not understanding what the hell was going on, and I read every issue before this one. Honestly, I am a fan of Brian Michael Bendis's work, but the stuff that he has going on at DC has not struck my fancy as of late. The artwork in this issue is a mixed bag, because while the characters do not look awful, it is really difficult to understand what is going on in the background. The issue just feels like a mess of stuff is happening and the reader is supposed to somehow follow through with all of it. Not to mention, there are just way too many characters for any moment to be truly appreciated. Also, the cover straight up lies to you, it says Doctor Fate is in the book, but he is not. 2/10
