Ground floor and going up! This issue uses the right bait for readers as you are automatically intrigued about this story. You HAVE to know what powers these five have. You HAVE to know what their motivation is. This issue is the itch that you have to spend a long time scratching so I am in for the long haul!

This comic has the right amount of horror, dread and Tarantino-type story telling (that's a compliment) that can easily be translated to the big screen as a movie. These kindred of the senses are scary. I am not sure how this vengeance tale is going to play out, but it definitely makes me more appreciative of all my senses. What a cliffhanger as two frames of this comic gives us Hannah's motivation in the fullest! Read this comic on the edge of your seat as it is written for you to do so!

This all out war in this issue had some casualties. The "worshippers" fell into Hannah's meat grinder first and It's an odd tale of vengeance and a wife/mother who has prepared for a battle against self-proclaimed gods. This battle may have had casualties, but it appears that the survivors of the Chimera are going to teach the world a lesson. Read this comic on the edge of your seat as it is written for you to do so!

I already want the remaining issues! Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones hit all the right notes. Clayton Cowles letters like the pro he is and Leonardo Ito splashes that 80's vibe across the pages that we so wanted! Again, love that "Prince" cameo and those fedoras. Again, James Tynion IV delivers a book end set that delivers, and the meat of the comic is also rich! The first story between Joker and Bane is worth the price of admission, but pages 22-23 resonated with me. Sometimes a comic world even in chaos is a better world.

Sean Murphy has tapped a vein in Black Label by rewriting the Batman legend in his own way. He trimmed where he needed to, mixed around some characters, and strayed enough from Batman canon to make this all new and fresh. This Batman timeline is worth every penny of your hard-earned cash!

Verdict Batman: White Knight was special. The beginning of this new chapter of White Knight is like “The Empire Strikes Back” It's going to eclipse the White Knight. Extraordinary #1 opened a bit of a portal to the old Flatliner movie. It is intriguing that as we glimpse into the story, a near death if not death experience can provide you some sense of powers. Too scary to think about, but I am glad that Schwab does. It makes for a really cool intro to what is going to be a great 'cat and mouse" chase! Buy this book!

I loved the diversion from the main story and it was definitely needed. We needed to know what the back story was for the Grim Knight. We are left with more questions in what the ultimate plan is for TBWL and how the Grim Knight fits into it as I cannot imagine a world where both of these creatures co-exist. The egos are too big. Jim Gordon turns out to be the real hero in this as his police training and interrogation skills keep peeling back layer after layer in the Grim Knight. This Grim Knight wants to get a second chance at Gordon. A Gordon that Jim doesn't know, but the goodness that is Jim Gordon appears to permeate through all time lines. Spawn #317- If you need to catch up on all things Spawn, then check out Spawn: Compendium that came out recently. It collects Spawn #1-50, and is a wonderful down and dirty on the origin of Spawn. It comes out just in time to be in concert with what is coming up in the Spawn Universe. The crescendo must be building, but this one was a bit stale. Obvious campy chatter, and not as much detail in the pens and pencils that we are used to seeing. The bar is too high in this game"or rather the meter is climbing up (Spawn fans will get that), so keep it there Todd!

This is another pivotal issue as you have seen the combination of Medievil Spawn, She-Spawn and Al now working in some fashion together. Get ready for more additions (or subtractions) from the team (?). The challenge for Todd McFarlane will be to relinquish some reins on the storylines that will be generated from this new diverse set of Spawns. This is a great opportunity for the Spawn universe to assimilate some other aspects of the Image comics line of heroes and villains as well as generate some new frontiers to explore. However, keeping the bar as high as it has been set will be challenge!

Cygor and Wanda have placed a bit of nostaliga if not humanity in Spawn's heart. He can go ruthless in seconds, but also he is very cognizant of how many characters he has pulled into his battle with Heaven and Hell. The foreshadowing of Wanda's comment gives us a catapult into August with King Spawn #1. It's shaping up to be a great Universe with McFarlane pulling out all the stops!

Mar 5, 2024

Dan Jurgens makes it a game changer, with Mike Perkins' stunning art and Mike Spicer's earthy colors making Gotham look even more run down than we've ever seen it before. Some of the scenes depict Gotham out of a Blade Runner-like environment... Rainy, dark, and desperate.

The first issue was an appetizer, but this time Jurgens really shows off his writing skills in The Batman: First Knight #2! This comic is well worth checking out, as I'm not one for period pieces and wasn't even a big fan of Gotham by Gaslight. However, we do see a Gotham at its lowest point and a Batman with absolutely no tech, but full of resolve. Dan Jurgens has shredded the Dark Knight down to his bare bones, so let's see what Gotham can throw at him now!

The Bat-Man: First Knight (2024) #3

May 22, 2024

The Batman: First Knight #3 concludes the storyline with some religious overtones that play very well into the origin of Dark Knight. Recently DC's been toying with a lot of variations of the character by breaking him down or perhaps making him more powerful. This Black Label three-issue story arc is well worth the read, as Dan Jurgens grabbed my attention from the first page of the first issue.

I'm a sucker for anything with Talia Al Ghul in it. The fact that a lot of artists and authors' work is featured as either intentional Easter Eggs or a carry over from DC Executive Jim Lee's days at Marvel, the intention is good. I appreciate the series on a lot of different levels. With no true killings and no true reveals, at least in my reviews, however, there is one item of note. The main cover, which features Superman and Wonder Woman attempting to subdue Batman, indicates a Clark transformation. Unless I miss something, he has combated magic/occult pretty successfully in the past, despite being more vulnerable to it than human beings. He's the saving grace in all of this so far, so how's he being duped into thinking Batman and Green Arrow are the vampires? Unless he's pulling an Andrew Garfield on us… whoops! I digress…

This comic is almost to the end of its run. Arguably it's an homage to the 1970's with all the rawness of a Mad magazine story. Alfred E Neuman has nothing on Ernie Ray. By this time you have waited until you can purchase all of the Collected Editions. That's okayBilly Ray is a guilty pleasure in terms of art as well as shock value. Remender has created quite the look back and arguably the look forward in this character!

I'm both excited and somewhat scared of what is next in terms of time flow within these borders of the US. This is a really well written and illustrated comic. This issue was a bit light. Not the urgency of prior issues to escape a land, cure the Sky virus, watch out for the back stabbing. While it dealt with the artistic side of things, it was a bit far fetched for me. But UC fans"you need to keep on keeping on. Every part of a race cannot be perfect nor can every issue. We have been spoiled by this group of artists and authors. Perhaps the pandemic gave us some rust we need to shake off for this series!

If you use this issue as a jumping off issue, whew! Good luck! This particular issue is a tangled story that you really need a score card to even keep up. That being said, the authors did a great job of publishing a "letter" at the end that provides both context as well as a "see you in April" as this comic is being developed as a movie. Not sure if the task of writing a screen play and the comic is overwhelming , but this particular issue is very frenetic.

I'm in too deep. Once I start a story line, I cannot give it up. And the past two issues have me scratching my head. Somewhere Humphries put this on a shelf, and forgot where the story was going. Shame on me if I am missing the clues, but there are more phones out here than a cellular store has to sell.

Dial H For Hero (2019) #9

Dec 9, 2019

While this issue brought some issues to full circle (the allure of dialing the phone"any of the H phones and Miguel's motivation to help but at a cost), but I feel like things have been forced from a six-issue run to a longer stint. And while I'm not sure how this is going to end, I don't know that Humphries does either.

Dial H For Hero (2019) #10

Jan 4, 2020

This issue gets things back on track and provides the duality issues of Robby Reed/The Operator /Mr. Thunderbolt. And it looks like Miguel has made an impulsive decision to stick things out with Robby Reed and a trip to Apokolips. All the pieces look like they are fitting together in this thing called Dial H for Hero!

Dial H For Hero (2019) #11

Feb 4, 2020

What started out with Miguel's quest to be a hero has ended up being an odd maze of characters and a thinly veiled plot line to coincide with the recent issue of Justice League in what may be a major "reset' in time lines. To borrow a phrase from an old phone book commercial, "Let your fingers do the walking!" Unless you have some nostalgia for The Reign of the Supermen, walk on by this one. It's a 12 issue series and next issue will wrap this up. I hope Miguel and Summer find a home in Young Justice as this ride has been tough.

I hope Miguel and Summer find a home in Young Justice as this ride has been tough. I think those two characters can be perfect wild cards to the stability of the characters in Young Justice. If this is what it took to get them into the DC Universe, then so be it. Or rather "Sockamagee!"

Batman vs. Ra's Al Ghul (2019) #1

Sep 12, 2019

There has never been an artist that clearly draws Batman and Bruce Wayne with such care and precision. And Adam's contributions to the Batman canon are an art to behold (ManBat, Ra's Al Ghul). However, the dialogue and rhythm of this story is a tough read. If you are into retro, and you want your characters around the 1970s and 1980s, then perhaps this is your Batman. It's a lighter, different side of Batman (albeit a whining side and not a winning side). However, this is your father's Batman"not yours.

Batman vs. Ra's Al Ghul (2019) #4

Feb 16, 2020

There is a time when all good athletes must retire. And while Mr. Adams can dribble and shoot, he can no longer remember the plays (script). As for Batman Vs Ra's al Ghul #4, leave the script ideas to someone new and keep drawing. His art is awesome. His scripts are not!

If Scott Snyder would pair with Neal Adams, the Batman book that would resonate from that pairing would rival anything in the canon. But alas, we find ourselves here. Buy this series knowing that you have art that is beautiful, but a story that is muddled.

Buy this series knowing that you have art that is beautiful, but a story that is muddled. Go back and re read issues #1- 6. Please comment as I would love to hear your impressions as I feel like I was give a map but nothing matters as Adam's script is word spaghetti.

Damage (2018) #11

Nov 24, 2018

To be honest, I am now curious as to where a creature like Damage goes now that he is now confronted with the most powerful hero on the planet. If Superman has indicated that the quartet of heroes before him has taken it easy on Damage, and Damage has withstood a heat vision blast from Supes, then we may be in for some interesting future issues as this collision of old mainstay heroes and new creatures may be infusing their will upon the DC landscape at a pretty rapid pace. I'll take a chance on following Damage….hope you will!

Damage (2018) #12

Dec 21, 2018

I'm in for the long haul. The JLA now has a member that is more powerful than Doomsday and arguably an equal to Superman. How Ethan/Damage chooses to use his powers is an open slate that I think DC readers should enjoy for issues to come!

Damage (2018) #13

I didn't like the inconsistency and also the mistake of having Batman being the one to order Ethan around. Damage needed a softer recruitment to the JLA, something that Batman is not necessarily known for! The art work is great and sharp! The characters are rendered in a great way, and I love the colors! With a book like Damage, they always deliver a battle. And each cliff hanger has been worth it, so we are now past a “Baker's Dozen” in issues, so make sure you go back and “re-read” to get started on this character!

Damage (2018) #14

Feb 24, 2019

The art is like the Dan Jurgen's run on Death of Superman. But the writing is not superlative at this point as I think enough Damage has been done. As they say in social media"."I'm just going to leave this right here"." I hope the writers do the same with Damage.

Damage (2018) #15

Mar 27, 2019

The art is solid, but the storyline doesn't save the character. This is a story of a super soldier formula gone awry. And the story has been told so often, nothing is a surprise and everything is absurd. From what I understand, only one issue remains in this series, so a collector would be wise to gather up all issues. It may be possible that another crew of artists and writers can get a hold of this character and paint a better situation for Ethan/Damage. In the case of this series, too much Damage has already been done (pun intended)!

Damage (2018) #16

Apr 19, 2019

Damage is going to end up in the $1.00 rack with some other titles from years gone by. I really had hoped this would have worked out as a "HulK" or "Doomsday turned good" character for DC, but I'm glad he's sailing off into the sunset. I hope he finds an island with cheap drinks and an easy way to get into a witness protection program. He and We are better off with him gone!

Deep Beyond #1

Feb 9, 2021

I may have to eat my words on this one, but it's a lot to digest in this issue. One gets how a creative team has to set the tone and introduce all the characters and the story. It's like some pieces are forced and organically did not come together. However, Settle in for the haul as the art is strong and elements of the story have the potential to be something special. It's alright to stumble at the start as long as you run the race and finish strong! Let's see what happens in the Deep Beyond!

The Joker (2021) Annual: 2021

Dec 5, 2021

The script for this issue is flawless and real scary" I won't be busting open a pinata anytime soon, but keep your reading glasses on and not your artistic lenses. Again Francavilla is not a bad artist, it's just that DC set the readers up with having Andolfo and March at the helm, and I found the difference quite jarring.

Triage #3

Nov 17, 2019

Levy paints wonderful female portraits and his pencils are strong. He's immediately thrown these women into an emotional crock pot. However, he is not cheap with this trick. While it is very hard to have an original idea and it appears some of his methods are borrowed a bit in this issue, it will be interesting to see how he sews this event up. And if these women can either co-exist in the same dimension given the events in this issue.

HaHa #1

Jan 15, 2021

Prince had a tough job. It's what every fastfood company did when McDonald's came up with the Big Mac. They had to come up with their own copy. The Joker inundated us last year in both comics and the cinema. This is a case where we need to change the lyric and “Send OUT the Clowns”.

HaHa #2

Feb 22, 2021

Prince's second issue is a tragedy. Perhaps when all issues are published and are connected, we will see a six series of short stories that are more designed for pity on these characters than a connection. Again, I commend anyone that tries to infuse energy into a tired theme. DC has all the angles covered in comics with The Joker, Harley Quinn, Punchline, The Clown Killer, etc. Stephen King destroyed Barnum and Bailey's clowns through his work in IT. I'm in for the long haul, but I am not laughing at HaHa!

While I was not very appreciative of issues 1 and 2, I hold this issue as one of those comics that can simply stand on its own. It is light on the reading, but heavy on the thought. The art is both simplistic but evokes real emotion! Well done W. Maxwell Prince

I wish I could quit reading it. I really do, but as Stephen King says " Dear Reader".." I'm in it to the finish. Again, out of everything thus far, Issue #3 is worth your time and investment. Otherwise, the other ones are as useless as a toy in a happy meal.

While this is a series of six issues, the only ones I would invest in is #3 and this one, #5, thus far! Here is hoping that #6 that is coming up is half as good as this one! If you have an extra dollar in your budget, you need to read this one! Especially if you have an older parent or grandparent still around! Sigh".. great story!
