I really loved this, for a comic that I had no clue as to what it was all about, I was pleasantly surprised. If you’re a fan of samurai stories or even if you’re new to this stuff, I think you’ll enjoy this.

I’m a total sucker for time travelling stories, I love movies like Back to the Future, The Terminator and even Timecop, hey it’s cheesy, but it’s fun. This is a solid beginning for a new comic book company and I’m looking forward to more of the same.

Superman’s back in action in this new monthly series! Superman busting corporate criminals? You better believe it. With Superman in Metropolis, you know that Lex Luthor ain’t far behind. This issue certainly lives up to it’s title with heart pounding action all the way! Written by Grant Morrison who needs no introduction and DC Comics veteran Rags Morales on pencils. From DC Comics. Based on a character from the novels of Caitlin R. Kiernan. I found myself bored to tears by this first issue. The protagonist is some Buffy The Vampire Slayer clone who talks to birds who talk back and exchanges riddles with werewolves instead of slaying them right away. I suppose its only saving grace is the illustrations by Steve Lieber who gives the drawings a look of medievalism in a modern world. If you’re a fan of Kiernan’s books, then by all means enjoy yourself. I just can’t recommend it. From Dark Horse Comics.

Spidey in space? Wouldn’t be the first time. Nice little space adventure that I rather enjoyed, with touches of Spider-Man humour we’re all fond of. Johnny Storm’s impression of Tom Cruise from Risky Business is a riot. I’m new to Giuseppe Camuncoli’s illustrations, but I’m impressed. With the help of inker Klaus Janson & colorist Frank D’Armata, the images of the space station floating in the void of space is quite a sight. Looking forward to the next ish! Another fun-fuelled issue filled with humour, action & suspense. Watching Spider-Man & The Human Torch bicker like an old married couple was hilarious. I’m looking forward to the “Ends Of The Earth” chapter when Doctor Octopus reveals his master plan. Written by Dan Slott & Chris Yost & illustrated by the wonderful Giuseppe Camuncoli. From Marvel Comics.

This issue kicks off the much anticipated “Ends Of The Earth” saga, featuring a dying Doc Ock who has nothing to lose. Dan Slott continues his outstanding writing & gives Spidey some new toys to play with. Stefano Caselli (Avengers The Initiative) provides the illustrations and does a fine job. From Marvel Comics.

As a long time Spider-Man reader, I’ve always loved The Sinister Six, but they’re not the same Spidey punching bags they once were. With a dying Doctor Octopus who’s got nothing to lose as their leader, they’re more organized, patient, bad-ass & deadlier than ever. Like Mysterio tells Chameleon “This is The Sinister Six. You’re in the majors now. Act like it!” I like Spidey’s new armour, except the helmet looks a little too close to The New Warrior’s Night Thrasher. Another very entertaining issue. The Sinister Six have done the impossible, they’ve beaten The Avengers. Watching The Sandman in his element is a blast, but Spidey still has few tricks up his armoured-sleeve, courtesy of Horizon Labs. This is turning out to be one hell of an exciting story arc, of course it helps to have Humberto Ramos (Crimson) as your penciller. Written by Dan Slott. From Marvel Comics.

Ends of the Earth continues with part 4! Spider-Man, Black Widow & Silver Sable squeeze Sandman for some valuable information on Doc Ock’s plans, but not before going head to head with the rampaging Rhino! Plus: with time running out, Spidey makes a desperate call to a number of super heroes from every corner of the world for some much needed assistance. Another “hot” issue from Slott & Ramos. Keep up the good work boys. From Marvel Comics.

This is a great issue filled with a few surprises you won’t see coming, but I really wish Marvel would stay with the same artist for every story arc. Don’t get me wrong, I like Stefano Caselli’s illustrations, I just find it annoying when they swap artists all the time, it’s distracting and it takes you out of the story a little bit. All in all it was still a very enjoyable series and I strongly recommend it to any Spider-Man fan. If you missed out on this series, hunting for the back issues is sometimes difficult, so maybe wait for the trade when it comes out, it makes a nice gift, all packaged neat & tight. Dan Slott delivers yet another kick-ass Spider-Man issue and continues to astonish readers with everyone’s favourite wall-crawling super hero. A little birdie told me that the upcoming #700 issue will be a game-changer for Spider-Man and that Slott will be a hated man. It remains to be seen. From Marvel Comics.

Things go from bad to worse for Spider-Man and the scientists at Horizon Labs and I loved every moment of it. From Marvel Comics.

I always enjoy the wall to wall Spider-Man fights and the Spidey Vs. Morbius match did not disappoint. All in all a decent enough issue. Written by Dan Slott & illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli. From Marvel Comics.

This story arc had its ups & downs, but was for the most part, damn entertaining. This issue and its entire story arc, gets a rating of 7 stars.

This was a difficult comic to rate. On one hand it has cool cover, the main story is great, the second story is ok & the third is not so good. On the other hand 5.99$ is way too much money to spend on a single comic and could’ve of easily been just about Alpha at the normal price of 3.99$. I’ll let you make the choice.

Things are picking up starting with next issue, as the Hobgoblin returns old school style! Can’t wait.

The countdown to AMS #700 continues, but in the meantime we’re still treated to some kick ass Spider-man stories like this one.

If you collect this series, what are you gonna do? Not buy it? Of course you will, because like me, you might be a completist or is it a completionist? Whatever. The thought of having a gap in a series or not having the final issue is unacceptable. Now I'm actually looking forward to Superior Spider-Man, this new Spidey (Doc Ock) seems more bad-ass & brutal than the old Spider-Man. Just look at what he did to the Scorpion's jaw and you'll get the gist of it. Dan Slot still writes and ex-Scarlet Spider penciller extraordinaire Ryan Stegman takes over the illustrating duties. Spencer digs in deep to give the readers, old and new, the current situation about the current state that is Peter Parker/Spider-Man's life, with new events and a very brief recap of why he does what he does as Spider-Man and who he is as a human being. Good script and the usual humour that defines Spider-Man

The Running Man mixed with The Hunger Games & dipped in American Gladiators is a recipe for a very fun new title from the unstoppable force known as Image Comics. This new creator owned title from Jonathan Ross & Bryan Hitch (Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest) has a captivating story and is jam-packed with action & suspense. These are some of Hitch’s best illustrations since his work on The Ultimates, his attention to detail is unsurpassed. I can’t remember being this excited over a comic book, make damn sure you don’t miss this one.

Another fine looking issue from Jonathan Ross & Bryan Hitch (The Authority). Hitch’s illustrations come to life with the simplest of details like blood splatter, pieces of debris & explosions. His attention to detail is astonishing and I love the way he uses two page layouts with a couple of panels sketched into the corner pages. A great issue for a great title. See you in thirty! Like many of Image’s new titles, this one is very unique and offers a new twist on the super hero genre mixed with our society’s obsession with today’s reality TV shows.

So far, this mini series is an awesome read & a first-class companion book for Snyder’s monthly American Vampire title.

This mini series was just as terrific as the monthly American Vampire series, which brings up the question why didn’t Snyder just insert this story arc into the monthly AV title? Regardless, I had a real blast reading this series, it had plenty of action & gore and some room for new characters & the development of the regular characters as well. This issue gets a rating of 9 and so does the entire mini series.

Aquaman is one of those titles I collect, that I’m never sure I should drop or not. I really enjoy each and every issue, but sometimes I feel conflicted and I think to myself “It’s good, but is it good enough to keep? Are there better titles out there?” Sure there is, but for now it’s a keeper.

Don’t mess with Aquaman! It’s basically what this new monthly series is trying to sell you and I’m here to tell you… I’m buying it! Over the years Aquaman has always been the less popular super hero, It’s even mentioned in the storyline in a hilarious seaside diner scene. I was never a fan. I don’t know if it was the costume, the fact that he could control the sea life or he was just a copy of Namor from Marvel Comics. Who knows? None of that matters now because this issue is fantastic! Written by Geoff Johns (Green Lantern) and drawn by Ivan Reis (Green Lantern). Like Johns did for Green Lantern, I predict an awesome new direction for Aquaman. This one surprised the hell out of me. The savage attacks by the underwater creatures know only as The Trench continues as they cross paths with Aquaman and Mera. The Trench part 2. There will be blood in the water! Written by Geoff Johns and pencilled by Ivan Reis. From DC Comics. The New 52.

The bloody battle with the sea creatures simply known as The Trench ends when they decide to retreat to the bottom of the ocean. Aquaman brings the corpse of one of the creatures to an old colleague who’s a marine biologist for some answers. Plenty of action all around and a little a bit of light is shed on The Trench. Written by Geoff Johns & illustrated by Ivan Reis. From DC Comics. The New 52.

This is the conclusion to the The Trench story and it was a wild ride! I’ve got a feeling we’ll be seeing these aquatic uglies again someday. As chilling as they are, I can’t help but feel a tad sorry for them. So they snacked on a few humans, they’re just trying to survive as a species (the world is over populated anyway). Arthur finally gets the respect from humans he so rightly deserves. We also get a glimpse of things yet to come and it looks promising (no spoilers). Here’s to Aquaman! As long as Geoff Johns is on board so will I. Written by Geoff Johns (Blackest Night) and illustrated by Ivan Reis (Green Lantern: Rage Of The Red Lanterns). From DC Comics.

The first page of this comic starts with a bang as Aquaman is free falling from the sky and crash lands in the middle of a desert. What a way to start a comic! We get some armed assailants who steal the mysterious artifact from the navy, some insight on Arthur’s past and Atlantis’ connection to The Trench. Geoff Johns (Justice League) & Ivan Reis (Blackest Night) keep dishing out the goods as one of The New 52’s best title. Reis’ illustrations with some very talented inkers & colorists burst out on every page. From DC Comics.

While Arthur’s away, her queen will play! As Mera tries to interact and somehow fit in with the townsfolk, she proves that she’s not a woman you want to antagonize. Her great strength & water manipulation powers are an awesome sight and would put the aliens from The Abyss to shame. Not a bad issue from the team of Johns, Prado & Reis. From DC Comics.

From Arthur’s past comes The Others as the malicious Black Manta returns with a vengeance! The mystery surrounding the origins of Atlantis slowly unfolds as Geoff Johns (Flashpoint) & Ivan Reis (Brightest Day) keep on delivering the goods. From DC Comics.

Some interesting flashbacks from Aquaman’s past as the Justice League wasn’t the only super-powered team he was associated with. This series keeps me coming back for more every month, because of the talented works of Geoff Johns (Green Lantern : The New 52) & Ivan Reis (Blackest Night). From DC Comics.

Some questions are answered as some brutal action scenes are displayed. Another fine Aquaman issue by Geoff Johns (The Flash: Rebirth) & illustrated by Ivan Reis (Brightest Day) displays a killer last page. From DC Comics.

This series keeps dishing out the goods as Aquaman is finally standing out as a pinnacle hero of the DC Universe. From DC Comics.

Ive been having doubts about continuing this series, but like me, if youve come this far into this series, you might as well stick around until the story arc wraps up. From DC Comics.

Despite my complaints, I still enjoy this title. I just wish the plot would be have a little bit more meat.

Now of course this was only the first issue, but I thought it was terrific and I look forward to future issues.

In the end I really enjoyed this comic, the dynamic rapport between Archer & Armstrong is totally there and will probably be there in many, many future issues. This is just a fun series.

Like other new Marvel Now titles like Uncanny Avengers, Thor God of Thunder & Indestructible Hulk, this one’s red hot and I can’t praise it any more than I already did. Make damn sure this is on your LCS’ sub-list.

Brian Michael Bendis (Powers) & Mark Bagley (New Warriors, Ultimate Spider-Man) are the creative duo behind this new series. Writing The Avengers is second nature to Bendis, the heroes & villains are quickly set up & the action is fast paced. Looking at Bagleys illustrations is like visiting an old friend, his visual style is perfect for this type of high octane super team. I like how the villains have a typical villains meeting and comparing themselves to the mafia made me chuckle. My only complaint and its a minor one, is that this series is hyped up only because of The Avengers movie and thats fine, but I predict when the movie comes to an end by the end of the summer, so will this series. This is a prequel of sorts to the highly anticipated AVX saga. Some tense moments between Wanda and Vision as some Avengers are ready to forgive & forget for her past crimes (see Avengers : Disassembled & House Of M). Hopes story is pretty straight forward as she foils a bank heist perpetrated by The Serpent Society. Great illustrations by Frank Cho (Liberty Meadows). I think things will kick into high gear with next weeks release of Avengers Vs X-men #1, unless you were lucky enough to get a copy from your local comic book shop (you know who you are). Scarlet Witch story written by Brian Michael Bendis (Powers) & Hope Summers story written by Jason Aaron (Incredible Hulk). From Marvel Comics.

John Romita Jr.s illustrations look better than ever. With the help of colorist Laura Martin, The Phoenix Force looks white hot. Written by a handful of the finest writers Marvel has produced: Jason Aaron (Wolverine & The X-Men), Brian Michael Bendis (Moon Knight), Ed Brubaker (Winter Soldier), Jonathan Hickman (FF Vol. 1) & Matt Fraction (Invincible Iron Man). Nuff said! From Marvel Comics.

Pulse-pounding excitement as the fight of the year enters round 2 and Im loving every minute of it! Written by Jason Aaron, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Jonathan Hickman & Matt Fraction. Elegantly illustrated by John Romita Jr. with a stunning cover by Jim Cheung. From Marvel Comics.

To advance the story further (and to sell more tie-in issues, lets face it) and for reasons I wont spoil, The Avengers split into 5 different teams to locate Hope. For the first time, Marvel introduces the Marvel Augmented Reality App. There are a total of 6 of these logos (AR), including the cover. Theyre supposed to enhance your e-comic experience. I have nothing against e-comics, but what I have a problem with is product placement in comic books. Its bad enough that our movies are over saturated with product placement, but a line must be drawn for comics. Mark my words, this is simply the beginning. As far as this issue goes, it feels like a filler, nothing more. Written by Aaron, Bendis, Brubaker, Fraction & Hickman. Illustrated by John Romita Jr. from Marvel Comics.

Thus ends the first act of AVX and so far its a very standard romp. Round 1 started with a bang, but then slowly started to descend into mediocrity & banality with every passing issue. Im confident that things will eventually start to kick in with the next chapter. I did like Wolverines idea of a fur coat. Written by Aaron, Bendis, Brubaker, Fraction & Hickman. Not the most exciting issue to date, but at least the story turns for the better. I won’t spoil it, but let’s just say I didn’t see it coming and it adds a little bit of spice to a currently dull series. This issue packs a punch & gives us the fun & excitement I haven’t felt since the first issue. There’s hope for the future of this mini series. No pun intended. When it’s all said and done, you’re either gonna like this series or you’ll down right loathe it, I’ll let you decide. For me, I’m somewhere between mediocre & good. Wait for the trade or better yet, wait for your LCS to have a sale on back issues and pick them up cheap. This issue gets a 7 and the entire series gets a 6.

Plenty of action with a straight forward plot. Enough to keep me around for more.

Not much to say really. We get to see a few of Cables flashbacks (or flashforwards?), some with Hope as a child and others as a young woman. Its fun to watch Cable toy with The Avengers like hes playing chess, knocking them off one at a time. Written by Jeph Loeb (Batman : Hush). Hes done better. Illustrated by Ed McGuiness (Superman). The Red Hulk never looked better and bulkier, especially with a B.F.G! From Marvel Comics.

By now if you havent got a clue as to what fate awaits Hope Summers, than youve been living in a cave for the past 6 months. As this prequel to AVX mini series wraps up, Ive come to realize that it took 4 issues for Cable to take on key members of The Avengers just so Hope can have her Phoenix moment. This story couldve easily been told in a single issue one-shot. Plus, you really dont have to purchase this series to read AVX, so save your time & money and skip this issue/series altogether and enjoy AVX, youll thank me. This issue gets a 2 star rating and a 1 star rating for the entire run. Not even Ed McGuiness illustrations can save this turd. Written by Jeph Loeb. From Marvel Comics.

After the long winded 12 issue AVX mini series, I'm pretty much done with this concept. Do yourself a favour and skip this one.

This is only the first issue, but it has an awesome start to it and I got a feeling this will be a very different series, but will still deliver the goods we’ve come to except from this series of the B.P.R.D.

If you’re a die hard B.P.R.D. fan, you’re gonna get this series no matter what I say and that’s fine, but if you’re a random reader of this series like me, you’ll probably enjoy this. This issue gets a rating of 7 and so does the mini series.

A creepy story (isnt it always?) about red neck vamps and a mysterious green mist that almost seems alive. Written by Mike Mignola (Hellboy) & Scott Allie (Solomon Kane). Illustrated with a disturbing flair by Jason Latour with a horrific cover by Becky Cloonan (Demo) that will chill you to the bone. From Dark Horse Comics.

What can I say that I haven’t already said. This is a very good first issue and I look forward to the second part. From Dark Horse Comics.

The protoplasm hits the fan as the B.P.R.D.s agent Vaughn encounters vampires, ghosts, deadly mushrooms & his partner ? Or whats left of her. The nail-biting conclusion to this terrifying mini-series. Written by Mike Mignola & Scott Allie. Illustrated by Jason Latour & another freaky cover by Becky Cloonan & Dave Stewart. From Dark Horse Comics.

Low on action, but high on plot, this story sets the stage for some exciting future issues. It's not the best issue of Baltimore, not by a long shot, but it's good enough.

It didn’t knock my socks off, but I did enjoy it for what it was, a harmless delightfully entertaining nugget of a comic with some potential for growth. From Dark Horse Com

I’d like to give this issue the low rating it deserves, just because of the s**t they pulled with the ending of the first story. However with Snyder & Capullo at the helm, I just can’t bring myself to do that.

The caped crusader is back in this new ongoing series! Theres a knife-wielding killer on the loose in Gotham and the trail leads to Bruce Waynes inner circle. Who can it be? Find out in Knife Trick. Written by Scott Snyder (American Vampire) and illustrated by the very talented Greg Capullo (Spawn, The Creech). Im anxious to see where Snyders taking this beloved DC character, with his razor sharp stories and snappy dialogue he uses for American Vampire. Capullos art just springs to life on every panel, hes come a long way since drawing Quasar for Marvel all those years ago. A great start for new readers. Love the new title art as well.

Bruce Wayne has been targeted for assassination by The Court Of Owls! Plus: Does Dick Grayson have an alibi for John Does murder? Another fantastic issue from writer Scott Snyder and penciler Greg Capullo.

Batman discovers the truth behind the Court Of Owls as The Talon strikes a deadly blow! This series just keeps getting better and better. Written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo.

As Batman gets closer to the mysterious Court Of Owls, The Talon, like a bird of prey is closing in for the kill! Plus: Bruce Waynes first detective case before he was ever Batman. Another great ish! Batman hasnt seen this much abuse since his first experience with the Venom drug (see Batman: Venom tpb. Awesome trade). He is pushed to his limits both physically and psychologically as this series just keeps on getting better and better with every issue. I dont know if your copy of this issue was like mine, but pages #16-#19 were printed upside down. Was this purposely done to give the reader a sense of dementia like Batman was going through? Or was this just a printing error? Im gonna go with the latter. Written by Scott Snyder (Severed) and illustrated by the breathtaking art of Greg Capullo (The Creech). From DC Comics.

The struggle continues as Batman fights for his life against a formidable enemy. The Talon is turning out to be one tough hombre. Hes right up there with other hand to hand, fighting/killing machines like The KGBeast, Bane, Deadshot & Deathstroke. Plus: The last page proves that theres more to The Talon than meets the eye. Written by Scott Snyder (Batman: Gates Of Gotham) & illustrated by Greg Capullo (Spawn). Fro DC Comics.

Its a royal rumble in the bat-cave as Batman takes on a dozen Talon assassins single handedly. And from the pages of the Avengers Jarvis? The #1 DC series continues with another action-packed issue. Written by Scott Snyder (Severed). Illustrated by Greg I hope he stays for many more issues Capullo (Spawn) & Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire). From DC Comics.

What else is there to say? This is the single best Batman moment of 2012 and nothing could top it, unless of course next issues conclusion does exactly that (oh and a little summer movie called The Dark Knight Rises too). The Fall of the House of Wayne is written by Scott Snyder & James Tynion IV. Illustrated by Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire). From DC Comics.

This entire Batman run was a total thrill ride from #1 to #11, which for me, makes this the finest New 52 series DC has to offer. This issue gets a 4 star rating & the entire story arc gets a 5 star rating.

I was anticipating the arrival of this issue for a while & it didn’t disappoint. Batman & the Joker have tussled more times than any other hero & villain, but this time the Joker’s going to strike at Batman where it hurts… through his family. These are good times to be reading comics my friends.

The illustrations are by Jason Fabok, whos work Im unfamiliar with, looks great, but strikingly resembles Gary Franks (Supreme Power, Superman : Secret Origin) art. Its almost identical, its by no means original, but it sure looks nice, especially the cover. At 4.99$, its a tad expensive, but well worth your hard-earned cash. From DC Comics.

To tell you the truth I prefer my Batman stories with Batman working solo, without The Boy Wonder. I remember after the death of Jason Todd (the second Robin), the Batman stories were very dark and some of the best Ive ever read. Not to say this isnt a good looking book. Written by Peter J. Tomasi and illustrated by Patrick Gleason.

Not a terribly good comic. The first act is ok, but the second was a little confusing. The recap and the end about the history of the whole Batman Incorporated campaign did shed some light on this story. But I was still disappointed and definitely not worth the price of 6.99$, ouch! Save your hard earned money, there a better Batman stories out there. Like I said, this wasn't my favourite Beast of Burden comic, but anytime I get to visit this neighbourhood is a good time for me. I hope to see more of these in the near future.

Glorifying bad guys has been done before, but with the right script & originality, a new villain like Madder Red emerges to offer something fresh & new. This was a remarkable & unexpected comic, I can’t recommend this one enough. And finally, to summarize Madder Red, I’d like to quote Tony Montana by saying “Say hello to the (new) bad guy!”

Not as mind blowing as the first issue, but still peaked my interest and kept me glued to every discomforting panel. Move over Joker, there’s a new madman in town and his name is Madder Red!

Now to be fair, this is just the 1st issue, so maybe the best is yet to come. However, my theory with horror comics is that in order to hook in the reader immediately, the first issue has to go for the jugular and not say “That’ll do pig”

Remember that feeling you got when you watched The Neverending Story or Goonies? Or when you read your very first Harry Potter novel? Now grant it, the Harry Potter books were published when I was already an adult, but I'm trying to illustrate a point here. That innocence we had as children when adventure is displayed in front of our eyes and that sense of wonder that only a kid can dream of. That's how I felt with Birthright and I'm hoping to get that feeling every single month.

With the current controversy surrounding this series, this issue will no doubt be a “hot” item and it’s going price will rise considerably. Will it hurt or help Howard Chaykin’s series? Only time will tell.

My point is that I didnt love it and I didnt hate it, Im sort of in the middle. However, I do think it has potential and in the next couple of issues I hope Im right. From Valiant.

Not Valiants best title, but certainly not its worst. Now I realize they presently only have 4 titles to their name, but Im just trying to make a point.

If you’re like me and you enjoy stories about hard core action, violence, blood, gore & high tech military intelligence, than strap yourself in, the bullet train is about to leave.

As far as new super heroes goes, The Bounce manages to deliver some decent thrills here and there, but isn’t a game changer for comics by any stretch of the imagination. For the curious only.

I would recommend this comic to all horror fans and I can’t wait for the next issue.

This first issue didn’t quite have the punch and tug it needed to pull me right in. Looks great, but something’s missing. It’s like a greasy pizza, it’ll fill you up, but you’re missing the nutrients your body needs. Here’s hoping that’ll change with more issue

Like other series like Revival, Saga & Great Pacific, Image knocks another one out of the park. If every issue of Clone is as interesting as this one, then I’ll be sticking around month after month.

Now this might be a little premature considering this was just the first issue and all, but if you’re a horror fanatic like me and you’d like something new & fresh then by all means dig in, you won’t regret it.

Dark Horse really nailed it with this new mini series. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary and a little insane than look no further. Crazy is sold here and it’s called Colder.

I pretty much praised this series as much as I could. Buy the issues or wait for the TPB, you’re in for a wild ride. This issue gets a 9 and the entire mini series gets a 10.

Final Verdict:I read an interview with Paul Tobin and Juan Ferreyra on how they want to extend the series into a few more limited short comics to really flesh out the story of Declan and his world of insanity. This news made my little horror heart swell up with joy and with Colder : The Bad Seed, it’s off to a great start.

This was a terrific read. It felt like I was watching a TV show that should be aired on the Sci-Fi channel, but it’s better than that, its comics, scratch that, it’s Vertigo.

The illustrations are stunningly drawn by James Harren (Abe Sapien Vol. 2), with the help of colorist Dave Stewart (The Massive) depicts a visual feast for the eyes for the beautiful city of Messantia and its citizens. One of my favourite drawings is a bottom-page panel where Conan, beaten & scarred, sits miserably against the cold stones of his dungeon waiting for his execution. Very cool. The angles used to display the savage death match are also cleverly done and the final panels of said fight are not for the faint of heart. I truly believe, this is the way Conan was meant to be portrayed in a comic book. I absolutely loved the crap out of this comic and if youve never read a Conan comic, give this title a chance, you wont regret it. From Dark Horse Comics. Pub. Date June 13, 2012.

Teen Titans meets Kick-Ass as Image does it again with a new & exciting comic book debut. Were introduced to the lead characters called Kid Vigilante, Yoshimi, The Fearless, The Magician & the egotistical Apollo. Written by Landry Q. Walker & illustrated by Eric Jones, whos illustrations are unfamiliar to me, but I was totally impressed nonetheless. Pick this one up (if you can, Image #1s tend to vanish quickly off the shelves lately), you wont regret it.

Giant robots & personal tragedy unfolds as Image Comics newest & exciting series kicks into high gear. I could be wrong, but I think the writer's a big fan of The Flaming Lips"Oh Yoshimi, they don't believe me. But you won't let those robots eat me. Yoshimi, they don't believe me. But you won't let those robots defeat me.Written by Landry Q. Walker & illustrated by Eric Jones.

This issue really ups the ante and its a title I look forward to every single month. Keep up the good work boys. From Image Comics.

A well-deserved break after the events of The Omega Effect, as its date night in Hells Kitchen. I really enjoyed the story about Matt & Foggy, how it paints a perfect picture of their friendship. Written by Mark Waid (Incorruptible) & illustrated by Chris Samnee (Ultimate Comics Spider-Man : Scorpion). From Marvel Comics.

The man without fear certainly earns his name as he takes on a plethora of costumed crime syndicates all by himself. And this series certainly earns its title as one of Marvels best ongoing series. Written by Mark Waid (Incorruptible) & illustrated by Khoi Pham (Mighty Avengers : The Unspoken).

Despite my lack of interest in Chris Samnee, this is still a great issue to an even greater monthly title. From Marvel Comics.

If youre not reading this comic or this series, than where the hell have you been? Its only Marvels best series. Pick up Daredevil by Mark Waid in HC Vol. 1 & 2 on sale wherever comics are sold.

With every passing issue, this title keeps getting better & better.

With Mark Waid’s Daredevil series and BMB’s Dardevil : End of Days, this truly is DD’s year. As one of Marvel’s beloved characters, no one deserves it more.

What can I say? Along with other amazing titles like Saga, Punk Rock Jesus & the monthly Batman (The New 52) series, this one ranks very high among them. I simply can’t recommend it enough.

As far as setting up the story to the highly anticipated Dark Days : Metal series, this is obviously a required reading, I thought it was intriguing enough and looked absolutely amazing, but a little on the pricey side.

Now I can't speak for my self, but if you want a break from avenging super heroes or time-travelling doctors, this might be for you. I had a blast.

Its a shame because Im a fan of Kurtis Wiebe, it just feels like not a lot effort was put into this. From Image Comics.

Nice to see The Defenders back together again after all these years, it fills my little comic book geek heart with glee. Who knew Doc strange was such a player? Written by Matt Fraction (Invincible Iron Man) whos made a name for himself at Marvel and illustrated by Terry Dodson (Spider-Man/Black Cat : The Evil That Men Do). Not a bad start for a new series.

Some action and some funny banther between Doc Strange and Red She-Hulk. Throw in some armed Dr. Moreau-like animal half-breeds and youve got yourself a decent enough second issue. I just hope the story picks up eventually. Written by Matt Fraction (Thor : The World Eaters) and illustrated by Terry Dodson (Wonder Woman : The Circle). From Marvel Comics.

The New 52 continues with Detective Comics #1 featuring none other than Batman! The Joker is up to his old tricks again, but this time hes got a mysterious & deadly partner The Dollmaker! The ending of this issue got everybody talking, its a shocker! Not a great start for this title. Written by Tony S. Daniel and illustrated by Ryan Winn.

Despite the boring back up story, this was a decent enough issue that merits the rest of the upcoming story arc.

Part vigilante and part Sandman, The Dream Thief is a curious first issue for a potentially intriguing mini series.

The second wave of The New 52 begins with a what if? storyline with new & forgotten heroes with endless possibilities. An exciting story about true heroism & sacrifice brought to you by James Robinson (Starman Omnibus Vol. 1) & illustrated by Nicola Scott (Teen Titans : Prime Of Life).

Illustrator Nicola Scott does a fine job with the look of the issue, with The Flash zipping all over the place surrounded by an abundance of electricity. I like the design of The Flashs costume, with bits & pieces taken from different Flashs. The Flashs helmet from the Justice Society of America with a dash of Impulses (now Kid Flash) big boots, while still retaining Wally Wests & Barry Allens red & yellow signature colors with a splash of blue added. Plus : one in-your-face cover with The Flash taking out some filthy apokorats. Written by James Robinson (The Shade). From DC Comics.

For those of you who were turned off by last issues gay plotline or if you quit this title for any other reason, then youre missing out on one of DCs finest title. So good I read it twice.

What can I say that I havent already said? This is a great title.

Reading this really took me back to when I was a kid watching late night horror films from Hammer or even cheesy, but still creepy movies from Elvira's repertoire of shlock. I've always enjoyed these wonderful one-shots and I look forward to more.

This is a new mini-series about a young femme fatale that borrows heavily from everything from Hong Kong action movies to The Matrix, Kill Bill, Elektra and even The Long Kiss Goodnight. This is writer & illustrator Raffaelle Iencos love letter to those movies & comics and it shows. It has action, bullet time, martial arts, swordplay with plenty of blood splatter. Having said that, theres nothing wrong with that, except weve all seen it before and it brings nothing new to the game. I find the illustrations a little clunky too, but the cover definitely kills. Regrettably, theres not enough here for me to recommend. Image has delivered better material than this. Its all icing, but no cake.

Everything I mentioned makes Evil Empire a decent enough comic with some potential to explore this world slowly crumble piece by piece, but what surprised me and what will make me return for the second issue was the ending. It came out of nowhere and completely caught me off guard.

This was a totally fun horror comic that has plenty of potential. If you’re a horror junkie like me, you’ll want to pick this one up.

The illustrations look like the artist went to the J. Scott Campbell (Danger Girl) school, which I guess is this comics only saving grace. If youre a fan of this type of comic than by all means enjoy, you could do alot worse. Its just not my cup of tea. Written by Davide Aicardi and illustrated by Livia Pastore. From GG Studios.

Plus: Black Bolt & The Inhumans guest star and as if this wasnt enough for you, witness the origin of Galactus! 7.99$ is a lot of dough to cough up for one comic but its well worth the price. This is a good starting point for new readers and I think I just found my new monthly title! Dont even think about missing this one!

This first issue has all the ingredients for a potentially great comic series, an original idea, an exciting opening sequence, action, romance, blood & guts, intriguing villains and an awesome cliff hanger ending. I absolutely loved it and waiting for the next 30 days will be unbearable.

L’AdditionHaving dove in with zero expectations, this HC graphic novel just entertained the hell out me. It left me with a huge grin on my face and a grumble in my stomach. Warning! If you read this on an empty stomach, you’re will get very hungry.

With great moments of mystery & humour, this is a solid enough new beginning for a strong female protagonist in a strong male dominated super hero world. I will definitely stick around for the next issue.

There aren’t that many ghost comics out there and it’s funny because at first glance, Mary’s style has that typical look you remember from your childhood, covered with the white sheet and all. But this takes your typical ghost story and totally flips it. I miss those two bad-ass guns from before.

I enjoyed 5 out of 9 stories, which isn’t too bad and at a hefty cover price of 7.99$, it was definitely a gamble. Some stories were hot, others were not, but in the end, it was worth it.

I really enjoyed this first issue and I feel that with a story like this, there’s plenty of potential for a long & fruitful series.

We’re only at the 2nd issue, but I can tell that is and will continue to be a very special series. I’ve seen some LCS that still carry copies of the 1st issue, so if you act now, you should pick it up pronto. You won’t regret it.

This was a quick read and not as story based as the first & second issue, but all in all a good issue.

If you missed out on this series, good luck finding the original sold out issues. Make sure you don’t miss the TPB coming out May 14. With titles Saga & Chew, Great Pacific is one unique series from Image that I simply cannot avoid.

Writer Joe Harris stated in this issue that he’ll taking a break, as the GP trade comes out in May, but that it’ll be back in June for a whole new story arc. With the way this issue ends, I certainly look forward to it.

This is a great starting point for new readers and a great addition for regular readers like myself who just adore the Green Lantern mythos and what Geoff Johns has planned for it. Don’t even think about missing this one.

You know what a bad-ass Green Lantern villain you are when you grace the cover of the first issue of a new monthly Green Lantern series! You the man Sinestro (or at least the alien). Written by Geoff Johns whos an old soul when it comes to anything Green Lantern and illustrated by Doug Mahnke whos no stranger to Green Lantern either. Good stuff!

Im loving this series.

Sinestro keeps on proving time & time again that hes the ultimate Green Lantern bad ass! Another fine issue from the Johns/Mahnke machine. From DC Comics.

The Green Lantern universe keeps on expanding with the origin of the Indigo Tribe brought to you by Geoff Johns (Aquaman) & illustrated by Doug Mahnke (JLA). From DC Comics.

After Batman, Green Lantern is my favourite DC The New 52 title. Although DC & Geoff Johns never officially announced it & the way the Guardians are scheming, I think another major Green Lantern event is coming out in 2012. Fingers crossed. This entire story arc gets a rating of 4 stars.

Im just thrilled to have Black Hand back & Im anxious to get to the Third Army storyline. From DC Comics.

An action heavy issue with a jaw dropping finale. Dont miss this one Green Lantern fans! FYI : This story continues in 2012s Green Lantern Annual #1 (out soon).

Learning more about the new Green Lantern and that’s good, but I can’t wait to get to the meat & potatoes of this catastrophic event.

This annual delivered in spades and will satisfy any Green Lantern fanboy out there. Make sure you get this one, as its required reading that kicks off the Third Army event in a big way.

The illustrations, combined with the colors are very vivid, which gives the comic a dream-like & surreal feeling to it. I really dug the “Final Destination” horrific accidental deaths. Grant it, there was only two, but you have to admit they’re extremely gruesome and creative. Having this series as a monthly ongoing series would get tedious & repetitive , but as a mini-series, it works. I look forward to the next issue. From Image Comics.

This mini series is a riot and it makes sense to release it in a limited series. I love the fact that it’s only 4 issues, no long commitments that an unlimited series has & less money to spend. From Image Comics.

I’ve always found reviewing individual comics harder to write, because its part of a story arc, an unfinished product, which is why I’m giving this a 7, but I definitely see the potential and look forward to reading the next three issues. In the comic book medium, we are constantly bombarded with superheroes and super villains, big guns, big pects and even bigger breasts. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you’re looking something different with some intelligence and closer to humanity’s heart, this could be the comic you’re looking for.

I find with Grant Morrison, its give or take. I’m definitely a fan of some his work and I’m on board for this crazy ride of a series. As for Darick Robertson, his illustrations only enhances my appreciation for comic books.

With two more issues on the way, I’m hopeful the series will eventually pick up.

The illustrations are by Khari Evans (Daughters of The Dragon : Samurai Bullets) who draws incredible facial expressions, like sunken faces & piercing eyes that give depth to the characters (Mr. Tull, Joe Irons & the Chinese army). With the help of colorist Ian Hannin, they have created one beautiful looking first issue. Grant it, individuals with mind powers are nothing new in the world of comics (see X-Men, JLA etc), but if you have a solid story, lovable characters with a chance for development & a decent enough creative team, than the possibilities are endless. Having just read & enjoyed X-O Manowar #2, Valiant is definitely on a roll. It remains to be seen if they can keep up the streak with upcoming titles like Bloodshot and Archer & Armstrong. From what Ive seen so far, I believe they will. From Valiant Comics.

This is potentially becoming the best title Valiant is publishing at the moment. If you have to read only one series from Valiant, make it this one.

Im really enjoying this series, as I look forward to every new issue. Valiants summer keeps on getting hotter with every new comic, not even Marvels Avengers Vs X-Men can keep up with this kind of heat (even with the Phoenix Force).

This series is definitely Valiant’s finest, as all the elements like great characters, cool powers, a captivating plot, snappy dialogue & beautiful illustrations come together to deliver one hell of a comic book.

I wasn’t completely blown away by this new direction, but all in all an enjoyable enough issue and a story arc that took me by surprise.

Its wall to wall action and has a clever story that will occasionally throw you curve balls too. Image has done it again. If you only buy one comic this week, make damn sure its this one.

I was anticipating this mini series ever since a saw a preview a few months ago and it didn’t disappoint. I look forward to the next issue. Make sure you pick this one up. From Image Comics.

This series has got me, hook, line & sinker. I can’t wait for the next issue.

I love this mini series. It started with a bang, dropped a little bit towards the middle, but came back full throttle in the end. As your doctor I recommend five doses of all five issues of Harvest or wait for a full overdose and get the TPB (that's the last of my medicalsurgical innuendos & puns I swear).

Now I appreciate Marvels attempt to breathe new life into a classic super hero, but it just didnt fit for me. Theres a reason the past Hawkeye series didnt work. Hawkeye is a supporting character. Always has always will

Now I did enjoy this new issue, but I find that with the Hellboy series and also the B.R.R.D., they’re a better read as a whole, like a TPB or HC instead of individual issues. So either I purchase the comics individually and don’t read them until the mini series is done or I wait for the TPB. Which ever you decide, make sure you do not miss this series or you’ll go to hell as well, condemned to a tortured afterlife with nothing but Archie comics to read.

Now this is just the first issue, but the bottom line is that if you’re a Millar freak like me, than you have to pick this up. Period. From Marvel Comics, Icon & Millarworld.

Not a bad issue, nobody slaughters the mob quite like Hit-Girl. Written by Mark Millar & illustrated by John Romita Jr. From Marvel Comics.

Image Comics is on a roll lately, coughing up new, inventive titles that are selling like hotcakes. Titles like No Place Like Home, The Manhattan Projects & Saga and this title is no exception. Its original, has a lot of fresh ideas & does a satisfactory job introducing the characters to the reader. My biggest problem is the artwork, it didnt agree with me at all. Looks rushed & splattershot all over the pages. The preview for issue #1 seems like an improvement in the illustrations department, so it has potential. I did like the astronaut scarecrow character and the teams B.P.R.D. solution at the end was a nice touch. Written by Michael Moreci & Steve Seeley. Illustrated by JM Ringuet & Axel Medellin.

I laughed, I didn’t cry, I sighed, I cringed and I shook my head, but in the end this isn’t my cup of tea. However, if this is your bag, then by all means enjoy yourself, you could do a lot worse.

This is my very first Aspen Comics issue and it wasn’t bad at all, it’s very much steeped into pop culture, which should appeal to a young audience. I’ve just peeked into Aspen Comics website and I’ve browsed through their repertoire of titles and I look forward to reading some more of them. Only three issues in and this series is one those titles I look forward to every month.

Joe Bennett’s art continues to impress me, as he draws new and horribly twisted ways for the Hulk to morph into Banner and vice versa. Shades of John Carpenter’s The Thing come to mind. This is and continues to be my favourite Marvel title, if you love the Hulk and the Horror genre, you owe to yourself to follow this series.

This story from Jason Aaron (PunisherMax) is action packed and features awesome artwork from one of the founding members of Image Comics, Marc Silvestri (Uncanny X-Men, Cyberforce).

Amanda Von Doom (no relation to Dr. Doom) and her Mad Squad need the Hulks help to take down Bruce Banner but should the Hulk care? Plus : Find out why Dr. Bruce Banner is slowly losing his mind. Asunder : Part 2. Written by Jason Aaron and pencilled by Marc Silvestri.

Enjoying this series very much but apparently next issue is not illustrated by Marc Silvestri. I hope hes just taking a break and will be back in the near future. If theres one thing I hate about the comic book industry is artists leaving half way through a story arc. At least commit to wrapping up the arc. Otherwise another fine looking issue from Jason Aaron (Scalped) and Marc Silvestri (Cyberforce). From Marvel Comics.

Were closing in to revealing the identity of the one that separated Banner from the Hulk. The storys all right and the art is from an illustrator I havent seen since the early days of Image Comics. I never really liked Whilce Portacios work, along with Rob Liefelds Youngblood I thought Wet Works was one the worst series from Image Comics. Bring back Marc Silvestri damn it! At least theres a nice cover from Leinil Francis Yu (why couldnt he pencil this issue?). Written by Jason Aaron (Avengers VS X-Men) and illustrated by Whilce Portacio (Uncanny X-Men). From Marvel Comics.

Banner & The Hulk taking turns smashing each other gets a little stale, but its a lot of fun watching Banner use his own modified Hulk-weapons that would make The Punisher jealous. The Bannermen are ridiculous to say the least. All in all, a mediocre issue, but at least it has an explosive ending. Written by Jason Aaron (Avengers VS X-Men) & illustrated by Whilce Portacio (Uncanny X-Men). From Marvel Comics.

Jason Aaron wraps up this storyline which will change the Hulk forever. The entire run was just mediocre at best, the problem for me wasnt the story (although the whole Mad Squad thing was very hokey) and it wasnt the covers (Leinil Yu is awesome). No offense to illustrator Whilce Portacio, but I never cared for his style of artwork, the limbs and heads seem disproportionate to the bodies, chaotic and all over the place. It didnt work for The Uncanny X-Men & Wetworks and it sure as hell didnt work for the Hulk. To draw the Hulk, you have to fill in the shoes of legendary Hulk pencillers like Dale Keown, Gary Frank, John Romita Jr. Not an easy thing to do. This issue gets a 3 star rating & so does the story arc. From Marvel Comics.

A new story arc finally begins as this issue takes a hilarious turn when the Hulk takes a vacation and celebrates his freedom from Bruce Banner, but is he truly happy? Plus : The Orb returns, trust me youre gonna laugh your ass off. Written by Jason Aaron (Avengers Vs X-Men) & illustrated by the crisp drawings of Jefte Palo (Taskmaster : Unthinkable). Im unfamiliar with his work, but as long as its not Whilce Portacio, Im good. Also sports a breath-taking painted cover by Michael Komark. From Marvel Comics.

Steve Dillons illustrations are always a treat to look at except that his version of the Hulk looks weird, it just looks like a body builder covered in green paint. Having said that, I didnt completely hate this issue, there are a few funny scenes, like when the Hulk tells the Punisher to shoot him in the face to crank up his anger. Hilarious. This was a disappointing issue, especially when the last one was so fun. From Marvel Comics.

Ive always been a huge Hulk fan, but if this title doesnt soon shape up, than its el droppo for this title. Maybe Ill check out the Red Hulk series. From Marvel Comics.

Like he did with Daredevil (and still does), Mark Waid has taken the Hulk to new and exciting heights. This is definitely one of Marvel Now’s better titles and I simply can’t recommend it enough.

With a character like Iron Man, who’s home is Earth, it’s fun to see him thrust into spatial situations among the stars & alien cultures. After the first mediocre story arc entitled “Believe”, I think a space opera storyline is just what this series needed. Kudos!

We’re 2 days away from Iron Man 3 and while the character in the movies seems to be going forward, the character from the comic is going backwards. It’s not a complaint, but merely an observation.

The VerdictThe verdict’s in and ladies & gentlemen… It’s guilty. IDW is guilty for bringing back a kick ass character with a chiselled chin & a gigantic chip on his shoulder. Judge Dredd is guilty for being a fascist bully/arsehole with a gun & a badge. And finally, I’m guilty for loving every second, every image & every panel of it. The sentence is an addiction to a new monthly series for life. Court’s adjourned. My iso cube’s waiting, gotta go.

This new JL series takes a different approach by re-introducing the heroes to each other for the first time. Im curious to see where this is going. Superman and The Flash enter the fray and do what super heroes do bestthey fight! Until tempers simmer and they come to a realization that they have a common enemy. Plus: Victor Stone is in the wrong place at the wrong time, with devastated results! Another great looking issue from Geoff Johns (Blackest Night, The Flash) and Jim Lee (Wild C.A.T.S, The Punisher War Jounal).

The mysterious winged creatures have started their invasion as the sword-wielding Wonder Woman joins the ranks of The League. Plus : Witness the birth of (dramatic pause) Cyborg? Wasnt he originally in the Teen Titans? Whatever. This series is finally starting to pick up. Written by Geoff Johns and pencilled by Jim Lee.

As Ive mentioned in my earlier reviews of the Aquaman comic, do not mess with Aquaman, hell sic great white sharks on your ass! Always a treat to see Darkseid in all his glory, especially when hes illustrated by Jim Lee. A classic villain. My fantasy duo of villains would have to be Thanos & Darkseid, together would make the heavens tremble. Another hit from Geoff Johns (Green Lantern) and Jim Lee (Batman: Hush). From DC Comics.

As the first story arc wraps up, the ending left me feeling a little empty. Some will love it, others will downright loathe it. Im reminded of the Grant Morrison Animal Man series ending which left a bad taste in my mouth. For me, the jurys still out on this issue, but I think Ill stick around for a few more issues just to see where it goes. After all, theyre the worlds greatest super heroes! Jim Lee takes a break, but provides the cover, as guest artist Gene Ha (Top 10) takes over the pencilling duties with some decent enough looking illustrations. The real treat is the Captain Marvel backup story featuring the wonderful illustrations of Gary Frank (Superman : Secret Origin). Written by Geoff Johns (Flashpoint). From DC Comics.

A riveting issue with the very eager to please Green Arrow who shows he has the chops to be in The Justice League. Written by Geoff Johns & illustrated Carlos DAnda (JLA Kid Amazo), Ivan Reis (Aquaman) & Gary Frank (Batman : Earth One, Midnight Nation). Cover by Jim Lee. From DC Comics.

A new and intriguing story arc begins about the architect of the book Justice League: Gods Among Men. Since the very first issue, this title was always pretty to look at, but lacked in the plot department. With this new issue, I really think this series will eventually pick up. Written by Geoff Johns (The Flash : Rebirth) & illustrated by Jim Lee (All-Star Batman & Robin). From DC Comics.

This one completely took me by surprise and I rather enjoyed it. The 3D cover is cool as frag and the twist ending alone is worth picking this up and if you don’t like well bite me fan-boys!!!

As an ongoing series and its lack of originality, I don’t think I would’ve invested in this series, but as a 5 part mini, there’s some potential and I think there’s something here for both horror and crime drama fans.

This comic looks good and has a nice presentation to it, but it just didn’t do it for me.

This is a fun trade, filled with mayhem and carnage weve come to expect from a Punisher book, but I cant help but wonder that this would have been a better ride under the MAX imprint, to really cut loose with the violence and gore. Still, its nice to see The Hulk, Deadpool and Daredevil get their asses handed to them by The Punisher. Looking back, this is more of a 'big picture' review and not just of the single issue. It's difficult to look at these from a 1 issue perspective knowing how much of the previous issues are being used and what they building to be used in the future. Not everyone is a fan of the slow burn style books that arcs span 10-12 issues, but if you do then this one is a keeper. Mind the Gap has beautiful art and a story that has way more hits than misses. Definitely consider it the next time you are in the shop.

This first issue won’t be the average comic book reader’s usual cup of tea, but I was completely enthralled with it, rotting cat and all. It’s twisted, it’s weird, it’s gross, but it caught my eye and hopefully it will catch yours as well.

Now I love Marvel, but as a company they never learn by their mistakes. Back in the 90’s Morbius had his own title, part of the Midnight Sons crew that involved Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider & Blade. It failed miserably and so will this one. Morbius has always been an interesting villainsupporting character, but that’s all he’ll ever be. Period.

The story opens and ends with intrigue and characters are competently introduced, which makes me crave the next issue and that’s a very good sign. Unlike the Rodriguez character, Millar’s not a speed demon when it comes to shipping out new issues, I think it took Superior a full year to wrap up and that was a mini series. So I figure this mini will wrap up in let’s say 2015? I hope I’m wrong.

This comic isn’t terrible, it looks great, except there’s not enough here for me to recommend. With great titles like American Vampire, I Vampire & The Strain I just don’t see how I could.

This was a total surprise, I didnt expect to be this much entertained by one issue. I only hope to see more of it in the near future. From DC Comics.

Marv Wolfman is no stranger to DC, hes written everything from Batman to Teen Titans, to Deathstroke to the original Night Force series. Fans of Tom Mandrake will remember him from the pages of The Spectre. Mandrake has a unique horror style with twisted nightmarish panels, terrifying shadows & beady little eyes on the more darker characters. I havent decided if Ill continue with this title, but it helps that its a mini-series.

This is officially my very first Nightwing issue and its a doozy. Some interesting background about the history of The Talons, especially one in particular as Nightwing is in for the bloodiest fight of his life! Written by Kyle Higgins (Batman: Gates Of Gotham) & illustrated by Eddy Barrows (Superman : Grounded) whos work Im unfamiliar with, but is a gifted penciller. I love the soon-to-be-dead point of view of a Talon assassins victim cover. From DC Comics.

Broken, cut, bruised & exhausted, but not beaten, Nightwing is out to prove to the Talon that hes not a pale Batman imitation. Pure DC magic, brought to you by Kyle Higgins & Eddy Barrows.

I picked up issue #8 & #9 because they were Night of the Owls tie-ins, so Im officially starting this series as one of my many monthly titles. It goes against my better judgment, because god knows I collect way too many titles, but I like Nightwing, he has a rich Batman history and in my opinion has a lot of potential. Im also a sucker for an awesome cover, which this title seems to put out every month. I will definitely pick up the first Nightwing (The New 52) trade when it comes out in October.

A thrilling issue that deserves a decent rating. From DC Comics.

This comic intrigued me more than it entertained me. Will it change your geeky comic book collecting life? No. Is it worth purchasing this first issue and perhaps the second & third? I think so.

I thought this was a fun read, not to be taken too seriously. Silas is cool protagonist with plenty of potential for future hazardous exploits & character development. If youre looking for a science fiction space adventure for pure entertainment value, then look no further. On the other hand, if youre looking for a ground-breaking & thought-provoking comic book, this aint it. You might want to skip this one. From Image Comics.

After reading the last issue, I was prepared to ditch this series all together, but after reading this latest issue, it opened up a new & interesting chapter and completely hooked me back in. I’m like the Micheal Corleone of Planetoid, “Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in!” If you’re a little late with this series, try to find issue #1 & #2 or like a lot of people, just wait for the trade. I truly love & admired what Ken Garing has done here and I’m looking forward to the next issue’s epic finale. Just don’t keep me waiting for another 2 months is all I ask.

I’ve said this before in a previous review, if you’re a fan of movies like The Terminator, Mad Max, sci-fi schlock like Spacehunter : Adventures in the Forbidden Zone & Soldier (yeah I know it’s pretty bad, but in a good way) then this series if definitely for you. Get the comics or better yet just wait for the TPB, you won’t regret it. I can’t wait to see what Ken Garing does next. It’s funny, in my review for Planetoid #1 I said to disregard this comic, but I’m glad I gave it another chance. This issue gets an 8 and the entire story arc gets a 9. I really enjoyed this comic and if you’re looking to take a break on capes, the supernatural & sci-fi, then this is a nice change of pace. Looking forward to the next issue.

With guns blazing, a cool cover, sporting a new Punisher logo and a tough as nails attitude, this re-launch is a welcomed addition to a brand new chapter to my favourite anti-hero. It’s gonna be a blood bath!

From the desert scene from Lethal Weapon to a scene from Heat to the jaw dropping ending, this is one bad ass issue.

The premise for this mini series had me hooked the moment I heard about it, having never read Greg Rucka’s regular Punisher run, word of mouth was very positive, so picking this puppy up was a no-brainer. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be picking up The Punisher by Greg Rucka Vol. 1.

The OutlookI quite enjoyed this Wild, Wild West meets Ghostbusters little tale, unfortunately, it loses a few rating points for borrowing heavily on M.I.B. & Cowboys VS Aliens. Having said that, it’s still worth a look. I look forward to the movie.

What makes this a real treat is Richard Corbens (Hellboy Vol.10 : The Crooked Man & Others) illustrations, presented in beautiful black & white. His style really sets the mood for the story with detailed facial expressions & the way he uses the ink for the light & shadows is downright eerie & frightening. I really got a creepy feeling reading this and I also got a Mike Mignola vibe like the way he writes about Hellboy with European haunted castles & weird monsters. Between titles like Severed, The Strain & now Ragemoor, horror comics are coming back in a big way and Im more than happy to tag along for the ride. From Dark Horse Comics.

Cockroach cooks, crazy monkeys & disgusting worm creatures, thats just a taste of what Ragemoor has to offer, as the castle plunges deeper & deeper its occupants into horror & madness. Has my vote for the strangest title of the year for sure. Written by Jan Strnad & illustrated in beautiful black & white by Richard Corben who displays his weirdest cover yet. In the end it did what it accomplished to do, deliver a bizarre & disturbing horror story about an ancient evil castle with its doomed occupants that dwell within. Dark Horse is the best comic book company that delivers these types of fright stories for any horror fanatic like myself and here’s hoping they continue with that tradition. The entire story arc gets a 4 star rating.

I think this series has huge potential and I’m curious enough to stick around for at least a few more issues to see how it unfolds.

It’s hard to find a good comic mini series these days, much less one involving an alien and a clever who dunnit, but if you look hard enough you might find a gem in the Resident Alien series.

A funny and original spin on the alien visiting a small hick town story. Its also a murder mystery with some real interesting players involved. Written by Peter Hogan (Tom Strong) & illustrated by Steve Parkhouse (The Milkman Murders). Originally published as Resident Alien : Welcome To Earth chapters 1-3 in Dark Horse Presents #4-#6. From Dark Horse Comics.

A whodunit with a sci-fi twist as the plot thickens in this very enjoyable little mini series from Dark Horse Comics. I like how the alien interacts with the people and his curiosity & fascination with the crime that was committed. Will this E.T. find his way home? Written by Peter Hogan (Terra Obscura) & illustrated by Steve Parkhouse (The Milkman Murders).

A good issue for a really good series. My anticipation for the next and final issue is driving me crazy. From Dark Horse Comics.

The good news about coming to the end of this fun mini-series is that Dark Horse is planning to bring back the friendly alien doctor in the pages of Dark Horse Presents and eventually in a new series entitled Resident Alien 2 : The Suicide Blonde. If you’re looking for something different to read, than I highly recommend this series, hunting for back issues shouldn’t be too hard to find, or you can always wait for the tpb which will eventually come out. This issue gets a 4 star rating and the entire run gets a 4 star rating as well. Here are my reviews of Resident Alien #0, #1 & #2.

This was a fine second issue for a creepy & mysterious story with limitless potential. Its a familiar setting with a unique approach and I look forward to more issues. One of the better series from Image Comics

For some reason this series reminds me of X-Files, it gives you just a peek of the wizard behind the curtain and just when you think you’ll have some answers, it slams the door in your face with more questions.

The illustrations, coloring & Hazels lettering are all done by Fiona Staples (North 40) and she does a phenomenal job. I love the pages where Hazel explains where her parents are from, using a star map and lettering it the way a child would on a black board. Image Comics knocks another one out of the park with this title and Ive got a good feeling about this one. This feels more like a Vertigo title, than an Image title and although there are no warnings on the cover, this is definitely not a book for younger readers. There is nudity, coarse language and sexual situations, which doesnt bother me, but might be offensive to some readers. I must sound like a total square right now, but I think people should be warned. Heres another warning. Skip this title and youll be missing on something very special. Just saying.

With this issues theme, it has definitely taken a turn for the more adult readers only style, which is not a complaint mind you, but if youre a parent who loves comics and your kids are also into comics, then I think you should be aware of that fact. Having said that, this is Image Comics finest series as every issue just gets better & better. Written by Brian K. Vaughn (Y : The Last Man) & illustrated by Fiona Staple

I have a feeling this series will never run out of gas, its that good. If you missed out on Saga 1,2,3,4 it could be hard to find and expensive too, so my advice is to wait for the trade to come out. Reading it in one nice volume will be rewarding. From Image Comics.

This series is the reason I absolutely adore comics.

If you’re new to this series, I’d suggest you purchase the first TPB and if you’re not, welcome back to one of the best series comic books have to offer. Vaughn & Staples have begun a new & exciting chapter for this weird & wonderful universe and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

With current titles like Wolverine Max, Wolverine & the X-Men & the March release of Wolverine, if this keeps up, the character will have more titles than Batman. Unfortunately, there’s not enough green in my wallet to get everything but we’ll see how this new series progresses. Is it groundbreaking work? Not by a long shot. Is it an entertaining first issue with potential? Hell yes!

Writer Christopher Yost (Red Robin : The Grail) does a good job reintroducing Kaine as a potential hero to old and new readers, while penciller Ryan Stegmans (Fear Itself : Dracula) illustrations are very good and vivid. The verdicts still out on whether or not Ill continue collecting this series, but this first issue is a step in the right direction. From Marvel Comics.

Supporting characters are starting to appear like Dr. Meland, Aracely & Annabelle the red-headed bartender & possible love interest for Kaine. Some intense moments like when Kaine threatens a mugger in ways that Spider-Man never would & his fisticuffs with the sniper. Ouch! Some tough looking baddies are introduced that will eventually spell trouble for our web-spinning protagonist. Im just loving this series. Written by Chris Yost (Amazing Spider-Man) & illustrated by Ryan Stegman (Spider-Man : The Return Of Anti-Venom) whos artwork Im really digging. From Marvel Comics.

Another great issue from Chris Yost & Ryan Stegman. The action is non-stop and I know its just a matter of time until we see a Spider-Man/Scarlet Spider reunion. From Marvel Comics.

Guest illustrator Neil Edwards (Spider-Man : Season 1) does his part with the drawings, but hes no Ryan Stegman (Scarlet Spider #1-#4). A nail-biting, edge of your seat story written by Chris Yost. From Marvel Comics.

This wraps up Ryan Stegmans incredible run on Scarlet Spider and I had a blast with every issue. From one red super hero to another, Khoi Pham & Tom Palmer from Daredevil take over the pencilling duties starting with issue #7. See you in thirty. From Marvel Comics.

Not a bad beginning for this titles new direction. Written by Chris Yost. From Marvel Comics.

No doubt will the plot thicken and questions will be answered as we get to future issues, but with Image Comics spitting out new #1s like newborn rabbits, will this one be a keeper? Well see.

Tensions are high as this issue has it all! Inter-dimensions, strange worlds and the fate of a fellow Secret Avenger is unclear. Im really starting to appreciate this series thanks in part to the creative team of write Rick Remender (Venom) & illustrator Gabriel Hardman (Betrayal Of The Planet Of The Apes). From Marvel Comics.

The action is brought up a notch as The Secret Avengers are pushed to their limits by The Father & his Descendants. Will Beast suffer the same fate as Ant-Man? How long can Flash Thompson ignore the Venom symbiote in order to assist his fallen comrades? Written by Rick Remender & illustrated by Gabriel Hardman. From Marvel Comics.

This issue wraps up the story arc, I really like the direction this title has taken. Hawkeye has proven himself as a competent leader and Captain Britain & Venom make fine additions to the team. Written by Rick Remender (Venom) & illustrated by Gabriel Hardman. Another cover by the very talented Art Adams (stop doing the covers and draw inside already). From Marvel Comics. The entire story arc gets a 4 star rating.

This was a hard one to grade, on one hand it’s very ambitious, but I wasn’t feeling it. On the other hand, I have to give credit where credit’s due. Maybe 20 years from now I’ll be reading the third generation of Shadowman and who knows, it might have surprises for me yet.

With Ten Grand and now Sidekick under his belt, it seems that JMS can do no wrong. Will he achieve the hat trick with the upcoming Protectors Inc? I’m optimistic.

I hate to compare a comic to another, but there’s nothing here that grabbed me. I think Mike Mignola is one hell of a creator & writer, but this feels uninspired to say the least. Not even a surprise guest star from Mignola’s creations could save this comic. This issue gets a 5 and so does both issues.

There’s something special about a black & white comic, it has a certain charm to it. It gives the reader a real sense of mystery and beauty unlike anything I’ve ever read. The Walking Dead has it, Punk Rock Jesus had it and now Snapshot has it too. An awesome first issue.

The Punisher meets Lobo in a story that’s not to be taken seriously. If you can deal with that aspect then this might interest you. I thought it was an original twist on the Punisher mixed with a dash of sci-fi. From Marvel Comics.

From the creative team behind the critically acclaimed series 100 Bullets, comes a brand new sci-fi mini-series. Orsons an ex astronaut genetically engineered to survive a space mission to Mars. Now he lives on a pier in a bad part of town just living day to day, but his mundane existence is about to change when he crosses path with Tara, a little girl held for ransom by a gang of ruthless sea pirates. Written and illustrated by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso. Not a bad first issue. Suggested for mature readers.

Orson, an ex astronaut fights off sea pirates to protect a little girl named Tara. Plus: More flashbacks of Orson as an astronaut and his crew on Mars. Plenty of action and violence and some insight on Orsons past. Written by Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets) and illustrated by Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets, Batman Broken City). Suggested for mature readers.

A very average issue. I hate to say it, but if this series doesnt start to get better by ish #4, Im gonna have to quit it. But then again its only a mini series, decisions, decisions. Written and illustrated by Brian Azzerello and Eduardo Rizzo (100 Bullets) which by the way, anyone will tell you, is a much better title. From Vertigo/DC comics. Suggested for mature readers.

To be honest, I had no idea what to expect from this mini series, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. The HC collection comes out on Nov 28, 2012 or save a few bucks and get the TPB which usually comes out a few months later. Makes a great gift for that certain Spider-Man fan. This issue gets a 7 and so does the entire series.

What can I say? This first issue completely exceeded my expectations and gave this old Star Wars fanatic a jaw dropping experience. If you’re a Padawan to Star Wars, go watch the holy trilogy (the good one) and come back and read this first issue. If you’re a Jedi… buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Having steered away from the Star Wars comics, its a real treat to be reading them again and what better way than to start with a Darth Maul comic. I didnt even know he was still alive, but then again its a comic, characters always come back, even in Star Wars. From Dark Horse Comics.

This series does get better as the story progresses and I look forward to the next issue

Looking forward to how this mini series wraps up and it makes you wonder if the bad guys can win, even in the Star Wars universe.

With this final issue, this series kind of left me with an empty feeling, like there was something missing in the end. I do believe that Darth Maul is a character with huge potential and hopefully another series will nail it. This issue gets a 6 and so do all four issues.

From Mark Millar & Leinel Yu, the creators of the smash hit Superior comes a new mini-series featuring the bad guys. The heroes & villains are quickly introduced as friends & enemies are reunited & a teleporter kills in a very unique way. With wrapping up Kick-Ass 2 and the upcoming Secret Service, the Hit-Girl spinoff, Jupiters Children & Nemesis 2 all on the way, 2012 is Mark Millars year. From Icon, Millarworld & Marvel Comics.

Calm, cool & collective, Johnny Bolt rounds up his players like Danny Ocean would, except these bad guys can level cities. Im digging this series. Written by Mark Millar (Wanted) & illustrated by Leinil Yu (Superior). From Icon/Marvel Comics.

Ocean’s Eleven meets the Sinister Six in Mark Millar & Leinil Yu’s Super Crooks. Some great moments throughout the story. I like how it’s explained to what happened to the last guy who stole from the Bastard, well to the people he knew anyway. And the con to get the Bastard’s house blue prints is pretty clever. Leinil Yu’s illustrations are as breath-taking as ever with his best cover yet. I’m enjoying the hell out of this mini-series. From Marvel/Icon.

When it’s all said and done, Mark Millar delivers another awesome series and proved that the bad guys can win from time to time. Now hopefully Secret Service will be just as engrossing. This issue gets a rating of 9 and all 4 issues gets an 8 (click here for issue 1, 2 & 3).Also this issue features a little bonus, as Frank Quitely dazzles us with a sneak peek of some rough sketches of his upcoming collaboration with Millar entitled Jupiter’s Children. Enjoy.

Now this comic surprised the hell out of me, but not as surprising as the very last page which I will not spoil here. I expected something like this might happen, but I thought for sure we’d see it several issues down the road, certainly not this early into the game. Having said that, as a Spider-Man freak, I think I’ll enjoy this series and wait with anticipation until the return of the one true Peter Parker (you know it’s gonna happen).

This was a good issue, but for a while there I almost dropped this title… twice. I’m still onboard for 2 specific reasons : #1) As I mentioned, I’m craving the return of the one true Peter Parker/Spider-Man and I want to see that plot develop in its entirety. #2) Now with several Marvel titles, illustrators come and go quickly. This is a fact I’m finally starting to accept, but if Humberto Ramos does the occasional story arc, this title will be on my sublist.

This issue was a great introduction to a potentially awesome comic series and I look forward to issue #1.

This is a promising & strong beginning for what I believe will be a very entertaining series. The unstoppable force known as Image, does it again.

For me, this is one the hottest mini series Marvel has to offer. Telling the complex story of Thanos’ beginnings is not an easy task, but Aaron does it which such ease. Where will the next issue take us? I think I’m too petrified to find out.

With Dark Horse & Image producing so many mini series out there, it’s hard to decide what to get and what not to get. For what its worth, I recommend this comic, but don’t expect the second coming of The Dark Knight Returns or Watchmen.

This new ongoing series will feature Spider-Man teaming up with a wide variety of super heroes, especially the big guns like Wolverine, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America & The Punisher just to name a few. We start off with an army of Moloids attacking NYC and its up to Spider-Man and Red Hulk to deal with it. The battle ends up deep under ground to reveal The Mole Man is up to his old tricks again. Or is he? Subterranea is under new management! Written by Zeb Wells and featuring the manga-influenced style of Joe Madureira (Battle Chasers). This is basically the new Marvel Team-Up series. Weak on plot but heavy on the action. Worth checking out.

Written by Zeb Wells (Spider-Man : Crime and Punisher) and illustrated by Joe Madureira, who loves his giants monsters, massive shoulders and extra large swords. Fun times!

This was a fun ride for this new ongoing series from Zeb Wells (Carnage U.S.A) and Joe Madureira (Battle Chasers). Leave your brain at the comic book shop when you read this, high on action and low on plot. What it lacks in story certainly makes up with the illustrations, I could stare at Madureiras art all day. The Rulk is as grumpy as the one true Hulk, Spider-Mans still a jokester and J.J Jameson is still a douchebag. Next for this title, Spidey teams up with Hawkeye. A straight forward stand alone story featuring Spider-Man & the cocky and over-confident Hawkeye. You can tell The Avengers movie is closing in because Hawkeye seems to be everywhere these days. I like Hawkeye, hes a legend in the Marvel Universe, but you have to admit, that ending made him look pathetic. A few chuckles here and there, but only recommended if youre a fan of this series. Written by Zeb Wells (Carnage U.S.A) & illustrated by Greg Land (Uncanny X-Men). From Marvel Comics.

A day in the life for The Avengers with some funny banter between Cap, Spidey, Wolverine, Hawkeye & Spider-Woman, but not so much with The Serpent Society, they get knuckle sandwiches. With Leinil Yu (Supercrooks) as illustrator, you cant go wrong. Written by Zeb Wells. From Marvel Comics.

You know desperate times call for desperate measures when Spider-Man, Daredevil & The Punisher work together as a team. Written by Greg Rucka (The Punisher) & Mark Waid (Daredevil). Illustrated by Marco Checchetto. The story continues in The Punisher #10 and concludes in Daredevil #11 (I hate when they do these types of crossovers). A below average rating for a below average comic. From Marvel Comics.

Wanting closure to the Ends of the Earth saga is the only reason I picked this up, but I wished they had put a little more effort into it.

Now this isn’t a game changer in comic books that much is clear, but it’s a lot of fun and if you just go with it I think it’s worth your time and dough.

Like Concrete : Three Uneasy Pieces, Resident Alien #0 & Criminal Macabre : Die, Die, My Darling!, these stories were taken from the series Dark Horse Presents. So far Ive been impressed with what that series has delivered and I feel like picking up this title, but I have to admit Id rather collect these reprinted series as their own titles.

Having to wait 30 days between each issue was a real bummer and really interrupted the flow of this story, I think that as a TPB, this story will better aprreciated. There aren’t that many gumshoe comics out there, so when you get a chance, don’t let this one slip through the comic book rack cracks. I give this issue a 9 and an 8 for the entire run. This is a one shot comic, but on the final panel, the writers state that the story will continue. Whether it concludes the story remains to be seen, but regardless, I thought this was an average comic. If you’re a fan of this type of aqua schlock, then you might find this to your liking, otherwise skip it.

With it’s over the top style and an even more over the top ending, TETOB & B is a piece of guilty pleasure that cannot be taken seriously, but promises a damn good time!

I was never a huge Doctor Strange fan, even Harry Potter never really did it for me, but this feels like Image took those elements and made it for adults and I’m on board the magic train.

Two of the criterias for a successful first issue are a captivating story & a fascinating protagonist. It has to suck you in immediately. And this issue does that in spades. On another note, Id like to wish Image Comics a happy 20th anniversary! I feel like I should give a gift, but the truth is, Image has given me a gift with another sensational new title.

The greatest minds in the world gathered in one room, solving complex problems and keeping them hush-hush from the general public in the second issue from Hickman & Pitarras strange new series. Ive never read a comic book quite like it. From Image Comics.

Issue #1 was good, issue #2 not so good & now with issue #3 Im really starting to appreciate this very unique series.

Regardless of who pencils this series, its still Brian Wood’s baby and I’ll be there to sample every page.

Now it wouldn’t be a Massive comic without some extra information at the end. The Thirteen News Network (basically its CNN) has an interview with Captain Callum Israel about everything from Ninth Wave to the Kapital & The Massive. It’s a fascinating Q & A period and helps new readers on the background of these characters and their mission.

With the monthly Conan, Star Wars & the upcoming all female X-Men title, Brian Wood is one busy guy. Let’s hope he can juggle them all at once.

This is by far my favourite series Brian Wood has ever crafted and “Subcontinental” is the best story arc as well. Throughout the series, the crew of the Kapital have encountered more dangerous and hostile situations then they can count, but with the Moksha incident, nothing’s more hazardous than the truth. This issue gets a 10 and so does the “Subcontinental” story arc.

What I love about this series is that I learn something new with very issue. Sure it’s fiction, but Brian Wood takes his ideas and blends them with real geographic landscapes & bodies of water the likes of which I’ve never heard of. If it wasn’t for this issue, I never would’ve learned about the Farallones. It’s the Discovery channel in a comic book. Knowledge & entertainment all rolled into one. Thank you Brian, Declan, Bellaire and all the peeps at Dark Horse, keep up the great work.

I was always a fan of Brian Wood’s DMZ, but The Massive is, for me anyway, the best work he’s done. I think next month’s new story arc will be an exciting one, as The Kapital sails to NYC… start spreading the news! This issue gets a 9 and the story arc “Polaris” gets a 10.

Wood knocks it out of the park once again, as the story arc goes Water World and reminds me of that scene in The Day After Tomorrow in the flooded streets of the city, but the Massive series is much better than both those movies put together, that’s a given.

In a world dominated with the often mundane and generic super hero title, this series continues to uphold my faith that there are genuinely original comics out there that deal with topics rarely seen in comics today and The Massive does it in spades every single month. Hats off to Brian Wood, Garry Brown and Dark Horse Comics. This issue gets a 9, but the three part story arc gets a solid 10.

007 meets The Mod Squad in Mark Millars new series from Icon. The illustrations are from the legendary Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) who needs no introduction. The story of Garys family is interesting enough and the rescue attempt on Mark Hamill, yes the Mark Hamill, goes horribly & hysterically wrong. Plus: The list of kidnapped victims is hilarious. Put em all together with a nice cover and youve got the makings of a potentially great series. From Icon/Marvel Comics.

All the spy stuff straight out of the 007 movies, without the dressing. Not the best Millar’s ever done, but it’s getting interesting. Written by Mark Millar (Superior, Wanted) & director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men : First Class). Illustrated by Dave Gibbons (Martha Washington Goes To War). From Marvel/Icon.

This definitely Millar’s less interesting projects, but with 4 more issue’s to go, I’m willing to wait. From Icon & Marvel Comics.

We’ve come a long way since the Shadow’s last incarnation with the cheesy Alec Baldwin movie from some years ago. This version doesn’t sugar-coat it like that movie did, this is more vicious & bloody and has some sense of character development. After all, it is written by Garth Ennis, the guy responsible for such gems as Preacher & Crossed. For Ennis, the violence is tamed downed a little bit, but I had fun reading it. Illustrated by Aaaron Campbell (Dark Shadows Vol. 1) & a stunning cover by Jae Lee. From Dynamite Comics.

Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogans novel, the first in a trilogy, comes to life in this new series from Dark Horse Comics. Having never read the novel, I was unsure as to pick this up, but with David Lapham (Stray Bullets, Crossed : Family Values) adapting the story and one hell of a cover by Mike Huddleston (The Coffin), how could I resist? The back up story for this first issue has an intriguing and very Hellboy-ish feeling to it with Its European mythology and folklore. Im anticipating the second issue. Suggested for mature readers.

Things are moving fast as the vampire infection starts to spread. If horror, vampire themes & movies like Outbreak are your bag, then this series is for you. Yikes. Things are heating up as newly formed vamps are popping up all over NYC. The tension really starts to build up as this issue serves up plenty of blood & gore for all horror fans like myself. Theres supposedly a movie in the works, but I think a tv series would be the way to go, on AMC or HBO. Taken from the novel of the same name by Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan. Scripted by David Lapham (Stray Bullets) & illustrated by Mike Huddleston (The Coffin). Suggested for mature readers. From Dark Horse Comics.

This series just gets crazier with every issue. The tension is as thick as the blood thats spilled and the vamps look like something out of H.P Lovecrafts worst nightmare. Taken from the novel of the same name by Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan. Scripted by David Lapham (Crossed Vol. 3 : Psychopath) & illustrated by Mike Huddleston (The Coffin). Suggested for mature readers. From Dark Horse Comics.

The series takes a little break from the current crazy events happening in NYC and focuses on a terrifying story of the Holocaust. It’s a tale that sent chills down my spine as we delve into more vampire history and their impact on Europe. David Lapham keeps the creep factor cranked up high with some nail-biting tension. Mike Huddleston (illustrator) & Dan Jackson’s (colorist) frightening use of colors & shadows for the WW2 era would make Mike Mignola (Hellboy) proud. And E.M. Gist’s painted cover fully captures the theme & mood of this issue. Sleep tight. Based on the novel of the same name by Guillermo del Toro & Chuck Hogan. I keep praising this series because along with American Vampire (click here for my reviews of Vol. 1, 2 & 3), this is one of the finest vampires series the comic book industry has to offer.

The tension for this series is stacked high, especially with the final page. If you missed the first 7 issues, vol. 1 for the first trade is coming out Nov. 27, I strongly recommend it.

Someone once asked me which vampire series I preferred, Scott Snyder’s American Vampire or The Strain? That’s a tough one. Although both are terrific and deal with bloodsucking creatures of the night known as vampires and the humans who attempt to stop exterminate them, they’re two totally different species. I think when the dust settles and as both series are completed (whenever that happens), I’ll be able to make a decision. Until then I’m just enjoying the ride.

With the 2nd collect trade coming out, the sequel series called The Fall & the upcoming FX TV show, the future for this series as a franchise, shines brighter than the very sun the vampires are afraid of. This issue gets a rating of 8 and the entire run gets a 9. Kudos to the hard working people at Dark Horse, I can’t wait for The Fall. Cheers!

The next time somebody sceptically tells you that the vampire genre has finally run out of gas, set ‘em straight and point them to your LCS.

I’ve been ready for this series ever since it was announced last spring and now that it’s here I can safely say that it was well worth the wait.

This first issue didn't blow me away, but there's enough here to keep me in suspense and to check future issues or at least until the first story arc wraps up. I admit it was fun to revisit this world and I have a lot of affection for these characters, but with other popular titles who dominate the market with themes of the supernatural, the occult & aliens, are the X-Files here to stay? We'll see if the truth is out there.

This is a brand new series from the creative mind of Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead, Invincible) & illustrated by Nick Spencer (Morning Glories). I like Spencers illustrations, its very noirish and looks like the kinda art Ed Brubaker would be associated with. Kirkman has tackled comics about super-heroes and zombies, but here comes something completely different and fresh and I applaud him for it. We get to see Redmond in action as a top notch thief and the story of how he met his apprentice Celia is awesome (car thieves take notes). Its The Thomas Crown Affair as a comic book! Good movie, good comic. From Image Comics.

Redmond is like Danny Ocean, cool, collective & a smooth-talking master thief always looking for that last big job to finally retire and change his thieving ways. More insight on his past jobs & partners. Add some sparkling banter and youve got yourself a good issue, but not a great one. Written by Robert Kirkman (Haunt) & Nick Spencer (T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents Vol. 2) & illustrated by Shawn Martinbrough (The Losers Vol. 2: Double Down). From Image Comics.

Image Comics does it again, as 2012 is their year, no doubt about it. I really enjoyed this issue and I recommend it to anyone looking for something different.

Only the first issue, but it got its rusty hooks in me and it will not let go. Henriksen, Maddrey & Mandrake have the potential for a truly terrifying tale and they’re off to a good start.

Can’t praise this comic enough and I think my review sums it up. Check it out if you want something different. Move over Dennis the Menace, there’s a new problem child on the block and his name is Todd!

With fascinating characters, a good plot and an epic ending, Translucid is a just the fresh breeze I was looking for lately.

Having been away from The Ultimate universe for a while, Im impressed with what Ive seen. It sure has expanded with a new Spider-Man, new worlds like Tian & The City popping up and making all kinds of trouble for The Ultimates. Jonathan Hickman has crafted a wonderful storyline and Esad Ribics illustrations are incredible. Great issue, an even greater series. Written by Jonathan Hickman (FF Vol. 1) & illustrated by Esad Ribic (Silver Surfer : Requiem). From Marvel Comics.

The Hulk finally gets to let loose as he rampages through Reed Richards City. Part of what makes this series so great are the fantastic illustrations of Esad Ribic, I particularly liked the page where The Hulk is facing a floating Reed Richards. I wouldnt mind having that page as a wall poster in my man-cave. With Zorns people initiating the first act of war and the way this issue ends, next issues gonna be apocalyptic to say the least. Sigh. This series is running out of gas and does something I despise, 4 different artists for the illustrations. Is that really necessary? Is Marvel having contract issues with their illustrators? Esad Ribic please come back! The reality is and I think everybody will agree with me, is that the Mark Millar Ultimates was a much better series and Im seriously thinking about dropping this title. Written by Sam Humphries & Jonathan Hickman (FF). Illustrated by who gives a crap! From Marvel Comics.

This issue wraps up the story arc into a nice package, but sadly this was my final issue of The Ultimates and Im not about to start Ultimate X-Men & Ultimate Spider-Man, especially with the upcoming crossover Divided We Fall. If theres one thing I despise is inter-series crossovers. Written by Sam Humphries & Jonathan Hickman. Illustrated by Luke Ross, Ron Garney & Butch Guice. From Marvel Comics.

Now this was the first of many of new titles for Marvel Now, Marvel’s re-booting of its titles. I’m sure they won’t be as awesome as this title was, but they’re definitely off to a great start. If you’ve always collected Avengers titles and never collected X titles or if it’s vice versa, than I think you might enjoy this title. I can’t recommend this one enough.

This is definitely one of Marvel Now’s big guns and it’s a title that just gets better with every new issue. Not to miss.

The roster for this team is simply awesome, some of the most powerful mutants together in one kick-ass group. A strong new beginning and a great looking title. Written by Kieren Gillen and illustrated by Carlos Pacheco (Superman/Batman Absolute Power).

Another high octane issue from writer Kieron Gillen and penciler Carlos Pacheco (Superman/Batman Absolute Power). I know I once wrote that I was getting a little tired of X titles and you would rarely see reviews about them, but this is a very cool title! That doesnt change my reviews of the Uncanny X-ForceStephen.

I do however have a beef Id like to share with you about the cover of this issue. You see, comic book covers are sometimes like movie trailers, they lie. A comic book cover, just like a trailer shows little bits of things to come, edited perfectly just tograb your attention. Walking in my local comic book shop I was in complete awe when I saw the cover to this issue. Dont get me wrong, its a fantastic cover, how can you not like it? A Celestial is about to crush Cyclops under his thumb and Cyclops blasting said thumb with a full on optic blast! I just think Its misleading and Marvel doesnt need to use cheap tactics to attract more readers. What makes this a good title is the stuff inside, not outside. Written by Kieron Gillen (Generation Hope : Schism) and illustrated by Carlos Pacheco (Green Lantern : No Fear). From DC Comics.

Not too familiar with The Phanlanx, but thankfully the first couple of pages gives the reader a quick rundown on their history. Theyre an alien race of one consciousness, one hive-mind, kinda like The Borg from Star Trek, but more terrifying. This is a stand alone story and its a good one, its also a sad story and by the end of it, you cant help but feel a little sorry for The Phalanx. A well crafted tale written by Kieron Gillen (Thor) and illustrated by Brandon Peterson (Ultimate X-Men) who also provided a stunning cover featuring Colossus in his Juggernaut mode. The X-Men visit a new world created from the ashes of a nuclear blast by the hands of Angel under the possession of Apocalypse (see X-Force #14 for more details). Psylocke has kept this information from Cyclops and the rest of the group, so you know eventually the truth will come out, it always does. Tabula Rasa is like the Savage Land but more evolved, full of wild plant life and strange and dangerous creatures. It adds some mystery and is a good start to this new story arc. Written by Kieron Gillen (Journey Into Mystery : Terrorism Myth) and illustrated by Greg Land (Ultimate Fantastic Four). Im unfamiliar with his work, but with this coloring team at his side it looks great. From Marvel Comics.

We get more answers about the origin of Tabula Rasa and its inhabitants and Magneto uses his helmet in a very unique way. Is Psylocke smiling on the cover? A good issue from the writing and pencilling team of Kieron Gillen (Siege : Thor) and Greg Land (Uncanny X-Men : Quarantine). From Marvel Comics.

This story has kept my interest since it first started as Kieron Gillen (Generation Hope: Schism) keeps the story flowing and Im really starting to dig Greg Lands (* see Avenging Spider-Man #4) illustrations. Good stuff. From Marvel Comics

This was a fascinating story arc. A new world was explored, lives were lost & alliances were forged. I loved the light hearted moments between Hope & Namor and his encounter with the tapeworm queen was off the hook. Namor, you sea-dog! Kieron Gillens writing is solid & I hope illustrator Greg Land sticks for several more issues. From Marvel Comics.

Probably the last amicable team-up between mutants & avengers before The Avengers VS X-Men crossover. The cold-hearted, android-like Unit is an interesting character to say the least. In a particular grizzly scene, he experiments on an unsuspecting father & son hunting in the wild. The rest of the prisoners like Terminus & The Skrulls have their asses handed to them by The X-Men & The Avengers who are trying to take control of the crisis. Ill miss Greg Lands illustrations, but Carlos Pacheco is a fine artist. Written by Kieron Gillen. From Marvel Comics.

Unit is turning out to be one fascinating character as he has some helpful information for Hope Summers. Theres also an interesting conversation between Cyclops & Abigail Brand, commanding officer of S.W.O.R.D. Written by Kieron Gillen & illustrated by Carlos Pacheco & Paco Diaz and a in-your-face cover by Adam Kubert. From Marvel Comics.

A different point of view of the events seen in AVX #1, but with a more detailed look at the awesome battle between Colossus & Red Hulk. I like the very last page as Cyclops activates his back up plan. The comic feels like dj vu, but still a decent enough issue. Written by Kieron Gillen & illustrated by Greg Land. From Marvel Comics.

Namors sexual prowess is hilarious and watching The Thing beat the tar out of giant monsters is reminiscent of old school Fantastic Four battles. Great stuff. Written by Kieron Gillen & illustrated by Greg Land. From Marvel Comics.

This was different, but still a great read. Move over Dr. Doom, theres a new tyrant in town and his name is Mr. Sinister! From Marvel Comics.

Despite being an AVX tie-in, it still manages to steer a little bit away from the current main event and concentrate on Mr. Sinisters activities.

This was an amusing comic with a confident & cocky villain being one step ahead of his enemies. Good stuff, I cant wait for the next issue. Written by Kieron Gillen & illustrated by Daniel Acuna. From Marvel Comics.

Despite my praises about this first issue having colourful characters & wall to wall excitement, I was still a little disappointed by its confusing plot elements. Like the title says “Where is Jake Ellis?” where indeed?

The TreatmentGo straight to bed with a recommended heavy dose of this issue and it wouldn’t hurt for you to get a shot of Witch Doctor Vol. 1 : Under the Knife just to be sure. Call me in 30 days for a refill of your prescription.

So what exactly am I saying? Not sure. I’ve never read Wolverine Max, this title has Alan Davis, Savage Wolverine has the extremely talented Fran Cho and Wolverine & the X-Men is simply awesome. Let your taste or your wallet be your guide.

The Brood are back in a big way, under control & on a leash with a very big and menacing alien holding on that leash as their master. Watching Wolverine & Quentin Quire wearing tuxedos, making a killing at the casino is a hilarious sight, not sure if headmaster Logan teaches cheating at gambling back in the classroom, but I suppose its for the greater good of the school. The fights with The Brood inside Kittys body reminds me a little bit of that movie Innerspace, priceless. Jason Aarons writing is what makes this title one of Marvels best series and Nick Bradshaws Arthur Adams like illustrations dont hurt either. A title like this is the reason I love comics. What a great series this turned out to be! Solid stories, fantastic illustrations, wonderful characters & an abundance of action. This is Marvel at its finest and my favourite ongoing title. If you missed out on the first couple of issues, you can always pick up the tpb which I think comes out in April or May, you wont be disappointed. Written by Jason Aaron (Incredible Hulk) & illustrated by Tim Bradshaw. From Marvel Comics. This issue gets a rating of 4*, but the entire story arc earns a well deserved 5*.

Another awesome issue from Marvels best x-title. Watching aliens from Planet Sin making bets on which planet the Phoenix Force will destroy next is priceless, sadistic, but priceless. Written by Jason Aaron (Avengers Vs X-Men) & illustrated by Chris Bachalo whos drawings looked a little muddled last issue, but hes back in top shape and it looks fantastic. From Marvel Comics.

Scott Summers & Logan, two of the most stubborn X-Men have a serious discussion mutant to mutant as some mutants from the school join the fight to save Hope, but which side will they choose? Written by Jason Aaron (Scalped) & illustrated by Chris Bachalo (The Witching Hour). From Marvel Comics.

Dont get my wrong, I love this series, its the best x-title out there. But these AVX tie-ins are useless and a waste of time & money. Now I do appreciate Nick Bradshaws cartoony style, but I think Ill skip the tie-ins from now on and just read the AVX series. Yes Ill have gaps in my collections, but who cares? What can I say? After 25 issues, this is still a very worthy comic that’s #1 on my monthly pull list.

Mutant truant and little bastard Quentin Quire is one those characters you just love to hate. Not quite a good guy, not quite a bad guy, hes looking out for number 1 and nothings gonna change his mind. Im interested in seeing how this story will unfold. Kind of a cash cow for Marvel, I mean they couldve easily published this series as a story arc in the pages of Wolverine & The X-Men. Cmon! At least its only a 5-issue mini-series . FYI to be read right after Wolverine & The X-Men #3 (out right now). Written by Brian Wood (DMZ) and illustrated by Roland Boschi (Ghost Rider : Heavens On Fire). From Marvel Comics.

Most teenagers like Quentin Quire play videogames, but most teenagers arent powerful psychic mutants who can create whole worlds in peoples minds filled with characters, settings & stories. Hes about to find out what happens when the players of your own mind games start to break free, especially when that player is non other than Wolverine. Written by Brian Wood (DMZ) & illustrated by Roland Boschi (Punisher : In The Blood). From Marvel Comics.

Like I said, I like this comic and I totally recommend it, but as a monthly series… we’ll see.

What else could I say about this terrific comic book? I was totally blown away by what Ive seen & read. Looking forward to Harbinger, Bloodshot & Archer & Armstrong, coming out in the next month or so. Welcome back Valiant, hope this time youre here to stay, because I certainly am. Its humans vs. aliens in a prison riot among the stars. Valiants X-O Manowars second issue is about action and survival, as Aric leads the prisoners to revolt against its cruel captors. Some new information on the aliens is revealed, theyre called the Vine and their crops seem to harvest their offspring which I thought was interesting. Written by Robert Venditti (The Surrogates) & illustrated by Cary Nord (Secret Invasion : X-Men) with colorist Moose Baumann paint a vibrant & stunning picture of the Vines bio-dome-like lush gardens. With issue #1, #2 & now #3, the story revolves around Aric & the Visigoths alien abduction and the discovery of the armour of Shanhara. So itll be interesting to see where the story will go from here. Great stuff. From Valiant Comics.

This is a really good series. Some would argue that it’s nothing more than a remake & a replica of the old series, but from what I can remember of that series, this one comes up with new & different ideas & that’s what a good creative team can accomplish

Valiant’s flying knight in shining armour explodes out of every panel, as this series gets better with every issue.

How much more can I praise this title? If you had to collect only title from Valiant’s catalogue, I would go with this one.

X-O Manowar is a tour de force for Valiant, make damn sure you’re reading this series.

The action is tight and the illustrations are hot. This is a great issue and an even greater start to what will probably be the best story arc this title has ever had. Bring it on!

As terrific as this story arc was, I think the best has yet to come when Aric takes the fight to The Vine home world in next month’s “Planet Death” storyline. See you in 30.

A very satisfying beginning to a much anticipated story arc, “Planet Death” part 1 does not disappoint. On a side note, it was recently announced that Robert Venditti will be Geoff Johns’ successor on Green Lantern. After seeing what he accomplished with the Vine’s origin and home world, GL’s alien races & strange worlds seems like a perfect fit and I can’t wait to see where he’ll take it.
