‘Black Panther' turns the page and enters a new very strange chapter following the very tense dramatic thriller that opened this latest series for the former king of Wakanda. ‘Black Panther' continues to disassemble its title character stripping more away from the former king as he comes to grips with his own sins while dealing with the threat of the almost comically on-the-nose Colonialist. ‘Black Panther' returns to where it all began, revealing the mastermind that has been pulling the strings since issue one in a story that continues to test T'Challa and pull the character apart more and more. ‘Black Panther' moves ever closer to the series endgame, taking its title character even lower while preparing to potentially at least partially dig him out of the hole that he dug for himself. ‘I Am Batman' handles the social and political commentary well with each issue, while it seems to be struggling a bit still to actually build a solid foundation of a world/social structure or more for Jace Fox in his new life. ‘I Am Batman' continues its roller coaster of a run by taking time away from the heavily cop-focused stories to dive into Batman's mind and fears, while also finally connecting the character more to the DC Universe at large. While there are new aspects to be found within, the reliance on the same few elements is proving to be far more harmful than beneficial for the character and series as a whole.

While Miles Morales' star has never been higher within the film and other realms, the character is stuck in a proverbial rut when it comes to his birthplace, the realm of comics. An overreliance on past elements is keeping the character from the heights he should be soaring through on a regular basis. A partially new creative team does their best to move things along, but an overall lack of consistency for the book as a whole is beginning to take its toll.

More than one or two Miles is too many Miles, especially when this book isn't living up to giving the Miles we know and love enough focus or attention in his non-Spider-Man or non-Multiverse life. Unfortunately, this series is seemingly stuck in a bit of a rut, and it's not coming out of it soon enough.

Another month brings another issue of Miles Morales's adventures centered around the multiverse and clones and his uncle and a handful of things that have come to seemingly define the character too much in comics these days. On the surface, this dark reality has some intriguing characters and concepts at play but at this point feels too much like been there done that.

Even a decade into his existence, Miles Morales is a character that Marvel Comics doesn't seem to know how to use at all and continues to coast off the same story fumes over and over again. While overly fine in concept, Miles Morales's return to the multiverse and dive into dystopian futures is pretty formulaic.

Miles Morales's big multiversal adventure is finally (thankfully) over, in an issue that is plagued by many of the same issues that have been there almost the entire time. Marvel Comics has failed their second Spider-Man character quite a bit these days but with only one issue left of this run perhaps there is some hope on the horizon for something more. Miles and the audience deserve something more.

The grips of Shadow War are just too much for Robin to overcome, as the series loses some of its normal energy and voice in service of helping conclude this big multi-series crossover event. It's still visually gorgeous and energetic but isn't reaching the same heights that have become the standard for this book.

A truly gorgeous and energetic action-packed issue is somewhat marred by a few ill-conceived story bits not hitting in the way the writer likely hoped that they would. At the same time, quite a number of elements developed through the previous ten issues begin to reveal themselves even more as the final issue is coming up. Despite some stumbles, there is a lot that this series is saying about the real world through the lens of Gotham that are worth checking out.

The United States of Captain America is a book at war with itself as it tries to live up to its promises of diversity and representation while shoehorning in an uninspired very by the numbers comic book plotline. Really solid artwork and some good character work as well as the backups focused on the various new Captains truly help keep this book afloat.

Marvel Comics' near-decade of symbiote revival might be running on fumes as the latest Venom series tries to find its place within a sphere where seemingly everything has been said & done numerous times. All of the creative team are solid individuals that feel somewhat mismatched with this book and the premise that seems to be on display at the moment.

Logan and Wade continue to do Wolverine and Deadpool-level things as the long-running plotlines of the series continue to casually walk forward, at least promising some sort of big confrontation with the next issue. An overall fine issue in an overall fine series that gives some fans of the characters exactly the type of meal they've always eaten and always want.

‘Wolverine' celebrates 25 issues by taking the highs of the previous issues and plunging right off a cliff as the title character yammers away and the big plotlines sputter to a lackluster conclusion. A really solid backup helps keep the issue afloat but suffers from standing alongside the main story.

‘Wolverine' continues its journey to seemingly wrap up or at least address its bevy of dangling plotlines, doing so in a way that just doesn't seem to fully hit the mark as much as it potentially could. This intro issue is very much a paint-by-numbers sort of story but could be setting up for something far more interesting with the following issues. Time will tell.

‘Wolverine' adds more of the same wrinkles to one of the many Wolverine/X-Force-related plotlines that keep on going, dragging the character deeper into a well of been there done that. Much like a prominent character at the distinguished competition, we might be running out of new things to say/do with Logan at this point.

‘Wolverine' takes a slightly different approach in walking down a heavily traveled road, mostly spinning its proverbial wheels before slightly advancing the overall plotline. The approaching new year could bring something far less rerun-like for the clawed mutant, but all signs are pointing towards the outlook not being good.

There is only so many times one can go down the same path before it starts to just become far too routine, and that is very much where ‘Wolverine' is as a title and character currently. Some interesting nuggets are consumed by the all too familiar tropes that have plagued the character for decades, with not a bit of relief in sight.

There does appear to be a thing as too much when it comes to how much Logan/Wolverine is in a story, and X Lives of Wolverine is very much treading all over that line. While there is a lot of great art that showcases the various eras of Logan's life, the overall reasons for what is happening are elusive as the story is told in a disjointed way as it tries to expand or wrap up a lot of dragged out X-Force plotlines.

‘X Lives of Wolverine' is a story that standing on its own would be relatively fine in execution, but as a centerpiece kicking off the next era of X-Men-related books it can be somewhat lacking. Artistically it's really well done, pulling off what is being asked of them with simple colorful, and brutal ease. Perhaps being read as a full complete unit with its sibling series might bring more to the book overall.

Toxic masculinity and unlikeable or empty characters fill the pages of this mini-series that remains upright only through the beautiful worldbuilding being done on the artistic side. Racial stereotypes and gore seemingly for the sake of gore also drag down a story that should have been quite compelling in concept.

Marauders returns to being basically stuck in place as the issue tries to tackle some very heavy and serious topics but does so in such a poorly dismissive way. The art team does great work with the mostly talking head issue they are presented with, including some old-school classic comic level energy with the issue's flashback.

Marauders is a series that has continuously treaded water for far too long while far too often stepping on the wrong side of various serious topics in almost glib or smug ways that do more harm than good. The art team does a good job bringing the energy up within these pages, even if the art style and part of the story heavily clash in tone.

Around and around we go, as Miles Morales's latest issue continues to go nowhere fast despite the story arcs finale being only one issue away. Despite a decade of existence and massive levels of popularity, Marvel Comics continues to hold Miles Morales back from the heights he could and should be swinging through regularly.

The United States of Captain America continues to be a premise born of possibly good intentions that is missing the mark in almost every regard while providing a truly cliche jump-the-shark level Captain America storyline. There are a great number of creators trying their best, but it's clear that despite their best efforts the overall package is not living up to the massive expectations.

The United States of Captain America coasted on such highs as it began only to stumble through fields of cliches and missed opportunity on the way to this average conclusion. The artwork continues to save the book and gives a lot of glimpses of what might have been had far more interesting paths been taken. In the end, the diversity bait and switch was a throughline from start to finish, a far too common occurrence with the industry.

What If…Miles Morales was a concept that maybe seemed cooler on paper but in execution, it has played right into the boring rut that Miles Morales has been trapped in for years. Everyone involved is trying their best, but some concepts/stories just don't work out no matter how much work is put into them.

Mann's World concludes on a truly bitter and still gory note that leaves not a lot of substance or messaging to be taken away by the final pages. It still remains a visual delight, outside of the gore, through and through, and is worth flipping through just for the beautiful art alone.

There isn't much constructive that can be said about this fourth issue of the overall weak multiversal What If series that has been given to Miles Morales. Egregious racial stereotypes, complete washing out of every character of color's personality as they cosplay as white Asgardians, and painful dialogue alongside art that is okay when it's not playing into racial tropes.
