It's sad that Red Hood fanboys are still harassing and trying to cancel Chip Zdarsky over Urban Legends. I know some of them got banned from this site for unspeakable and perverted things.

I almost feel sorry for people who've wasted so much money on this Tumblr fic that have to trick themselves into liking it.

Kevin Conroy's story alone is better than all the nostalgia pandering crap that DC publishes from over-the-hill writers that peaked a decade ago

I pity those who are too illiterate to read this comic 🤣🤣🤣. Maybe they're projecting their own loneliness.

I wonder how many fanfic writers are going to sue Murphy for plagiarism?

I can see why this book is being canceled. Sales are pretty low, huh? There are more sock puppet accounts astroturfing this than there are people reading. You can tell how they all use the same writing style. Very similar to a certain account that got banned for perverted and unspeakable deeds. It's very worrying, I fear his mental health will not hold up. Hopefully, he's barred from touching any guns.

Azzarello understands Jason Todd as a character very well, and he's 100% on his analysis. Unfortunately, he fails to do anything to break the cycle of terribly written Red Hood books.

You can read the exact same thing on a fanfic site for free.

Interesting. A lot corporate sock puppet accounts have come out for this book.

It's little wonder why pre-order sales are so bad for this.

What a cringefest. Murphy should take some time to learn how to write instead of name-searching himself on Twitter on the time. Just shows that being friends with Scott Snyder is more important to DC than having writing talent.

This book is so pointless. It's a boring exposition dump on half-ass pages that DC decided to call "manga-inspired" because they couldn't bother to pay a colorist. Just bad writing all around. I pity the people who have to keep convincing themselves that this is amazing.

I've always said that Hush was a shallow and overrated piece of trash made solely for the lowest common denominator, the type of person who lacks the brainpower to critically dissect a poorly written mystery. Jeph Loeb is in full Ultimatum form here, a hack who depends solely on his name and corporate branding to sell. Looks like I was proven 100% right, looking at the people who are desperately shilling for this, like the pedophile apologist and his weird parasocial relationship.

Smart narrative about morality and revenge that cohesively weaves itself through multiple timelines without missing a beat. If you want a story that holds your hand and treats you like an idiot, I'm sure there are other books out there.

If you thought Death Metal was pretty dumb, then this one knocks it out of the park with how badly it mangles up its own story. Those who are illiterate would love this, however. Tailor-made for those without critical thinking. It's funny how corporate simps like Fenix have nothing to say about the writing quality of the books, only the marketing budget.

It's a good comic, which means that pedophile-supporter Ethan Van Sciver is blubbering into a webcam somewhere.

Who was the idiot who looked at Brett Booth's art and thought, "this is acceptable for a professional artist"? Nepotism is not good, folks. lol Brett Booth's friends getting salty

Need more Batman comics from these excellent creative teams.

Possibly the best comic DC is putting out right now, now that Hellblazer is over.

Does a solid enough job looking at Damian's insecurities, and giving some fun but meaningful interactions between Damian and Selina. Was a bit more wordy than it probably needed to be.

Long exposition monologues that serve no purpose, awful cringe-worthy jokes, broken postures, and disjoined paneling. Who thought Scott Lobdell or Brett Booth were good ideas?

Doomsday Clock #5 May 30, 2018

Reads a lot better than what the Bensons did with Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. The plot was kind of pointless.

A rushed plot that leaves makes the whole entirely mostly forgettable, outside of the setup for the New Justice books.

Shows a lot of promise and understanding of Superman. People can put their pitchforks down.

Very little to take away from these showcases. They're all just lead-ins for hypothetical future stories that may not even exist. Good artwork, though.

Fun, vibrant book that puts the characters in action. Hopefully, it doesn't lose its spark with the departure of Meyers.

Well-plotted and paced, though it suffers a bit too much from exposition dumps towards the end.

Overall, it's a decent conclusion to an underwhelming crossover that tries to be too many things at once. This issue provides a big bombastic finale but it isn't quite able to find its thematic conclusion. We're better off resuming the storylines of two excellent Batbooks and a decent Detective Comics run.

8.5
Gotham Academy: Second Semester #2 Oct 11, 2016

Laughably awkward issue about Red Hood projecting his daddy issues all around him. The eyeroll-worthy parallel that the writer attempts to draw between Jason's resurrection and Bizarro's revival would be comical if the writer didn't expect readers to take it so seriously.

An entertaining start to a crossover, even if it's not as good as the regular book.

Maintains a consistent tone from the previous crossover issue.

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #2 Sep 15, 2016

Smart issue full of intrigue and espionage.

Less disjointed than the first issue. A pulpy fun mess is what it is.

In some ways it delivers, but it can't help but hit some really tired cliches. The ending cliffhanger is a mess that brings to the surface the ever-present problem with Big 2 comics: that their individual stories are often getting derailed by the "big picture".

Fantastic character work and world building here. Looks to be one of the best books of Rebirth hands down.

3 issues in, this book is what it is: a character fan service book full with awkward narration and quips that aren't quite as funny as the writer thinks they are. There's very little in the way of a plot, conflict, and tension.

Some good stuff, some bad stuff here. Most of this issue flowed well, except for the contrived writing that leads to the cliffhanger. The only reason there's any tension to the cliffhanger is because of the rumors of a certain character being killed off. Barrows is back on art, and his work is considerably weaker than Martinez's.

One of the best stories to come out of the Big 2 in years. It's smart, heavy, and doesn't hold the reader's hand, instead letting them project their own interpretations and ideals onto the characters.

7.0
Titans (2016) #2 Aug 24, 2016

Decompressed as it may be, there's a lot of character and thematic depth being explored here and Rucka makes each panel worth it. There's more substance in each issue here than there is in many other "quick read" books, like Suicide Squad or Red Hood or Justice League.

This arc really stumbles its way to the end. Dialogue continues to be overexcessive, and there are major gaps in the logic that dictates how characters behave. Percy's pacing problems from his previous series continue here. All in all, Green Arrow is a just a mediocre comic with good art.

7.5
Aquaman (2016) #5 Aug 17, 2016

Pacing of the dialogue is off, and the personality clashes are too on-the-nose. A disappointing debut.

Strong and emotional conclusion to the first arc, although its cliffhanger get is awkwardly integrated.

Book of the week. Excellent character-driven issue that continues to explore Nightwing's psyche.

Comprises of two okay stories, neither of which are interesting enough on their own. The 13-page "main story" does barely enough to introduce everyone's quirks, but little else. A disappointment coming from the previous New Suicide Squad run.

A strong Rebirth issue that is packed with both action and heart, and plants the seeds for a first arc.

From the same writer of Prez, Flintstones turns its premise on its head and becomes a sharp satire on the failings of modern society. A must-read.

Consumerism hits bedrock. This is one of DC's best books, and is up there with Superwoman for book of the week.

Earth 2: Society #15 Aug 11, 2016

Heavily fragmented story that moves at a clunky pace, and doesn't really hook the reader in until the end. JRJR's art is a poor fit here.

Forget the god awful Deathstroke runs of the past. This is a deep and challenging book that examines the morally gray role of a self-serving mercenary in a world torn by political conflicts. This is DC's top anti-hero book by far.

Detective Comics (2016) #938 Aug 10, 2016

A Jason-centric issue that accomplishes what it needs to, but still relies too much on flashbacks and exposition to drive the plot forward. Soy's art does the heavy lifting here. Lobdell's dialogue fluctuates between passable and groanworthy.

A fulfilling comic with a ton of story packed into 20 pages, and plenty of surprises. Art is very clean, and despite having so many panels, the storytelling does its job very well.

Nightwing (2016) #1 Jul 26, 2016

It's not terrible, just mediocre. Rehashes a bunch of familiar elements without adding anything new. Tries too hard for cheap emotional moments, but lacks the logical progression from scene to scene. The book's plot is relegated to just after-the-fact exposition. The characterization just comes off flat, and the direction seems that this book is going to just be a poor man's Grayson. Soy's nice art is sadly wasted.

Provides a great deal of backstory and character depth to the Gothams, while still moving the plot brusquely along with minimal handholding. Easily among the best Rebirth books.

A dull issue with god awful narration. There is very little logic in character attitudes, and the series continues to take a "tell, don't show" approach to the Oliver/Dinah relationship. Only propped up by Ferreyra's excellent art. Safe to say this is one of the worse Rebirth series.

A slightly-better-than-mediocre Bat book. There isn't much to this issue outside of a plot twist that was telegraphed well in advance, and makes very little logical sense. Clearly the weakest among the double-shipped Bat books, but not quite terrible. Best treated as a fanservice book.

Aquaman (2016) #2 Jul 6, 2016

Deals with the emotional impact from the previous issue, while setting up the greater plot. Lots of intrigue, and little nods to classic Batman stories.

Green Lanterns #2 Jul 6, 2016

A straight-forward action flick. Hitch handles widescreen panels well, but struggles with close-ups and faces.

A good intro with an explosive start.

A slow issue, but unlike other "slow" issues (see: Wonder Woman), but the plot has been utterly unremarkable. Second issue of this arc, and it's stuck with characters talking about their backgrounds to one another. And then throw in some Tim/Steph fanservice that seems to be in there just for the sake of pandering to Tim fans. Seems like Detective Comics just continues to be the "Batman book that's nowhere as good as the main Batman book".

Powerful, tense, and full of action. Feels very much like Batman to the core, while still fresh at the same time. An issue that seems to have gone over quite a few people's heads.

Would have worked better had it not distracted itself with the tired "Jason Todd is violent" themes and focused on more on Batman's psyche. Also has trouble fitting in with the awful Millerverse.

Great art, but is stuffed with some of the worst dialogue imaginable, and forced shipping. It's unfortunate when a writer goes for fanservice at the expense of good writing.

Very clumsy storytelling and dialogue, and the dual narration simply doesn't synergize well.

A good thematical setup for what should be another memorable Batman saga. Great use of visuals to convey the changing of the seasons. Duke should make a fine sidekick, as King has a great handle on his character, as seen in Robin War. Probably the best of the Rebirth issues.

Not terrible, but not great, either. It's an improvement from Percy's previous work, which was stuffed with shallow political analogies and unintentional racism. It's still full of Tumblr buzzwords, but it's not as bad this time. Tried a bit too hard to force the Oliver-Dinah relationship. Yes, we get it, DC. They're supposed to be "destined true loves". The art is the high point.

The plot of this was that two grown adults bicker like children... Outside of that, there isn't much. The Red Lanterns are evil again, completely forgetting Soule's excellent run (and the best Lantern run of the New 52).

Superman: Rebirth #1 Jun 1, 2016

A very grounded and personal story that takes its time to re-unite the old and the new, while also delivering a metanarrative that reminds readers why they loved superhero comics in the first place.

Rushed, but ultimately a decent ending that ties previous threads together.

A dull and overly drawn-out conclusion that has to reiterate every little thing on the page, so that readers don't get confused.

Bland dialogue that has to explain everything to the reader, empty plot developments, Jason being a self-insert character, and bad artwork. The usual.

It's a very emotionally heavy issue. The glimpses of future (or Elseworld) Batmans play nicely with the present-day story, and Snyder unexpectedly brings in a Chekov's gun to complete the arc for some meaningful closure.

It's an inventory issue, but it's an issue that nicely captures what this whole book is about. The character interactions are handled well, and Fawkes conveys a firm understanding of who Damian is, and why he's trying to be. The artwork captures the frantic action of the story well enough.

4.5
Batgirl (2011) #47 Jan 20, 2016

A rather introspective and self-aware issue that questions the value of fleeting tranquility, before racing towards an exciting climax. While this story arc has had a few lulls, there's no doubt that Snyder has managed execute a strong and character-driven story arc out of a status quo that had some shaking their heads.

A surprisingly sound character-driven issue that sees Jean-Paul Valley turn over a new leaf, and Jason truly deal with his own death. The latter hasn't seen anything like that in his own series, so it's nice to see this, given that DC has essentially distanced itself away from everything that made pre-N52 Red Hood work.

Earth 2: Society #8 Jan 14, 2016
4.0
Red Hood / Arsenal #8 Jan 14, 2016

Overall, it's a strong finish, despite a few loose ends not being completely addressed. The character arcs for Duke, Damian, and Dick are done very well, with their contrasting viewpoints of what the Robin mantle mean to each character. It does feel a bit rushed at times, with not every plot point from previous issues being fully fleshed out, and the artwork is inconsistent due to all the different artists. Still, it's one of DC's better events, and certainly worth a read (tie-ins notwithstanding).

At its core, this book is slapstick comedy stuffed with visual gags and the occasional sci-fi action, but there's a surprising layer of maturity underneath. What seems like an obvious setup for a love triangle sidesteps the cliched drama, and all characters come out for the better. Differences between the characters' motivations are conveyed clearly without being too heavyhanded.

Gotham Academy (2014) #13 Dec 10, 2015

Very strong issue that moves multiple plots forward. Gordon gets some very nice moments, and the other storylines begin to come together nicely. There's an interesting cliffhanger there as well.

A weak and mediocre issue that spends too much time developing a subplot that ends up being meaningless, and shallow banter between two one-dimensional characters. Eternal seems to have fallen back into filler mode.

The opening is a bit contrived, but the interactions between Grayson and Gordon are nice. This feels mainly like a bridge issue to set up the next major beat of the crossover.

Another excellent issue that examines what it truly means to be Robin, and what Dick Grayson is willing to do to keep everyone safe. Each of the Robins is written very well, and gets time to show off who they truly are beyond a single dimension.

Easily the weakest part of an otherwise strong event. Characterization is very weak here, with Jason once again whining endlessly about how he never lived up to Dick. The Roy and Joker's Daughter adventure ended up being mainly pointless. Worthless exposition continues to be haphazardly thrown around the pages.

A fun, cute issue that finds time to amuse but also establish strong character work. There is a plot point that kind of comes out of nowhere, but the writers will presumably follow up on that.

Strong issue that fleshes out all of the different characters that will be involved in the Robin War. Some (like Tim and Jason) are better here than in their own series. Duke makes for a strong and relatable protagonist. It's a considerable step up from Batman and Robin Eternal.

A very action-packed issue that shows Kori's more heroic side, and what she's capable of when the people close to her are in danger. "Beware the nice ones" indeed.

Clunky issue, with too much exposition, and poorly paced plotting.

Solid issue with some nice flashback moments, although the plot continues to be contrived and uninteresting. Characterization was strong though. Even Jason Todd is written as a tolerable person, something that his own series is missing.

A solid start that doesn't move the plot forward, but does give the main characters time to settle in.

Starts off strong, but suffers from some severe decompression with too much blank moments. James Bond acts more like Archer than anything else.

Mostly mediocre issue that just shows Superman being a jerk. Doesn't bring in any new development for the character.

Powerful issue that goes deep into what makes Hal Jordan tick, explores his drive and his flaws, and ultimately reconstructs him as a truly likeable hero in spite of everything.

This was really bad. The majority of the issue was just bland exposition recapping previous issues, with some low-brow jokes scattered throughout. A very amateurly made comic.

Rather clumsily handled. Feels like Tynion wasn't sure how to handle Tim's origin, so he scrapped together an ill-conceived background, and left Orlando to fill in the blanks.

Excellent issue that brings in Jim Gordon's skills as a detective and experience as a father to light. A great little two-part filler arc that does exactly what it needs to do.

Interesting twist that really solidifies that central message of this series so far: that Midnighter knows everything there is about fighting villains, but is weak and vulnerable as a human being.

So much soap opera and mishandled subplots. The ending was solid, though.

Completely different from what you'd expect from a Marvel book. It starts off with a creepy suburban atmosphere where you know straight off the bat that something's wrong, and it pays off at the end. The most promising ANAD book so far.

Feels like it should be a significant moment, but it gets derailed by a trite love triangle. Characters are written one-dimensionally, and the main event (the transgender wedding) is treated as a footnote.

Good for entertaining Batfamily interactions.

Weaker than the last two issues. The fight scene feels cluttered and goes on for too long, and the Batfamily interactions feel disjointed. Highlight was Dick giving a lecture to the new Robins.

One of the best issues yet. Maps meets a Robin, and is enthralled with a story about the first. Some major plot development, too.

Mainly a setup issue, but there's a lot of spywork being done, and several plot threads being lined up against each other.

Manapul's artwork steals the show here. The script is mainly a setup for the one-shots, but the art is just gorgeous.

Interesting idea, though it feels like it hits some too familiar beats.

Thoroughly entertaining, with a nice share of satire that sometimes hits a bit close to home.

It's a clever way to tie the Secret Six to the supernatural side of the DCU. There's a lot to look forward to here.

There's a setup to an overarching mystery, and this issue takes its time, while dropping hints everywhere. It's a book to follow for the long haul.

The series has gotten stronger, though this was mainly setting up Robin War.

The Daredevil preview was impressive. The Inhumans previews gave off a good snapshot of what the series will probably be about. Everything else was forgettable.

Dallied around a bit too much. Feels more like a setup issue for things to come.

The most useless of the Superman books. Guest appearances are really shoehorned in. Greg Pak's Action Comics is much better.

The art was really good, but the writing feels really forced. And the whole "dark secret that Batman is hiding from everyone" plot has been done too many times.

Really good character interactions all around, better than the first issue. Flashback sequence was really good, too.

It's sad that this is ending so soon, but there are some really great plot developments in this issue, and it looks like it's heading towards proper closure.

Solid writing and characterization all around. Tomasi really knows how to make his characters come across as real people. A great Jim Gordon story.

Really mediocre. Dialogue was very Bendis-y, and so inorganic. The art is okay. Feels like every other forgettable Iron Man story. Don't expect anything on par with Warren Ellis or Matt Fraction.

The plot and villains were forgettable, but the action and the team-up was a lot of fun. And that's what this book is: a fun action series with lots of snarky banter that doesn't make its characters one-dimensional.

Great way to humanize these villainous title characters. Lots of tension built up. The world feels even bigger now.

Tries too hard with gimmicky guest stars. Dialogue is really bad with cliched one-liners bouncing all around (even worse than Bendis). It tries to go for an emotional moment near the end, but it fails because the narrator won't shut up. Surprised that this didn't get canceled.

Fun, silly, and light-hearted. Starfire is presented as culturally unaware, but still capable and with a big heart.

Feels like a proper Superman title.
