Don't read this if you are looking for escapism. That being said this comic is amazing. It plays off of the current fears that are relevant in the year 2020. The fear of pandemic, and the rise in fascism and authoritarianism in the world are both successfully drawn from. Both Stracszynski and Deodato bring their A-games. The writing is great, but is mostly exposition for the future of the series. As this is part 1 of 6 I really liked this, however I will want the comic to become more character driven as it progresses. If I'm being honest, I'm not usually a fan of Deodata's art, but his art really suits this story. The art is gritty, realistic and flows very well within the narrative. If this comic can keep it up, this might be a modern classic. What a debut from AWA!

I have grown tired of the large number of comic events that almost never reach my expectations. However this is not one of those events. This issue is a fantasy epic starring the X-Men. While Hickman and Howard did an incredible job crafting the story, the true star is Pepe Larraz. The art is some of the best I have ever seen in comics. I don't think I could have wanted more in an opening issue to an event. Hopefully the rest of the crossover will keep up the great work.

I'm not going to lie, I've never read a TMNT comic before. I used to love watching the 2003 cartoon as a kid, and when I heard of the concept of this series I was intrigued. I was expecting a Dark Knight Returns take on the turtles. Dark and violent. And while it was both dark and violent at times, it still possessed the fun I remember from the characters when I was growing up. This issue was action packed, fun, dark and full of heart all at the same time.

What a great issue! This is what I've been wanting from the Tynion run from the beginning. Action, great characterisation for several characters and just great work all around. Tynion is getting a better grip on Bruce's individual voice and Selena's. His Joker is terrifying in the best way, and Catwoman acted far more like Catwoman. The art was great too, Jiminez and Albuquerque did excellent work.

This comic really caught me off guard. Based off of the previews I had decided I was not going to buy this series. The art didn't look like it was going to appeal to me, and I personally find Greg Pak's writing to be very hit or miss. When I visited my local comic shop I was surprised to see this issue almost sold out early in the morning, so I decided to buy it and give the first issue a chance. And boy am I glad I did. Pak had big shoes to fill following on from the great runs from Gillen and Soule, however he succeeds in making his Vader true to the films and previous comics, while putting his own take on the character. Reading this story I sensed a genuine sense of rage coming from the character that I have never experienced before. It is almost as if you are inside Vader's head, seeing things from his perspective in a way that the previous Vader series did not attempt. The art also shocked me. In the previews I thought the art looked really generic and bland. However while reading the issue I really enjoyed Ienco's art. He managed to convey pain, sadness and anger through really well drawn facial expressions. The art also flowed very well and made for a seamless and consistent reading experience. While I haven't subscribed to this series yet, I am looking forward to what comes next in issue 2.

This was a great first issue. Tom King, Mitch Gerards and Evan Shaner have all brought their A-game. The story feels very relevant to the modern era of the USA with both main political factions distrusting the media (e.g. left-wingers distrusting Fox News and right wingers distrusting every news station but Fox News). This struggle to tell fact (fictional fact anyway) from fiction feels like it is going to be a key part to the series, and is genuinely intriguing. By having Shaner draw the scenes in the past with such a clean and aesthetically pleasing style, this book is able to employ one of the best uses of the 'unreliable narrator' I have ever seen in comics. The art is absolutely amazing. Gerards' art is so gritty and unique, and Shaner's art is like a modernised version of classic sci fi art. My only problem with the comic is that it feels a little bit too similar to Mister Miracle. King has not done enough yet to separate Adam Strange from Scott Free, however he has 11 more issues to establish Strange's personality.

This may only be the second issue, but this has already become one of my favourite series I am collecting. Taylor manages to make all of the characters likable, and give them distinct personalities. The story in the issue is a great one-and-done which manages to add to the overall arch of the characters while being a complete story on its own. Bruno Redondo's art looks incredible on paper. I'm used to seeing his art on a screen from the Injustice series, but on paper his work looks so crisp and amazing. All of the characters are drawn in their own styles, and their designs are really cool for new characters. The rest of the art team does a great job helping his pencils come to life. The book has a very classic and fun feel to it, yet it feels modern and relevant at the same time. If you're a fan of The Suicide Squad, Deadshot, Harley Quinn or just DC in general you are doing yourself a disservice not picking up this book.

I'm still gutted this is getting cancelled. It has been one of the most consistently great comics available each month. I hope Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo can repurpose the characters into a new take on the Justice League International or something similar.

Usually I hate these overpriced one-shot tie-ins. I had low expectations for this book, and mostly bought it to keep my Cates Venom collection complete. However my low expectations were blown away. This issue had great horror elements, while still feeling very much in the Marvel universe. It was both a great one-shot and lead in to 'the King in Black'.

Pretty light and fun for a "Death of" book. Jed MacKay continues to develop into one of Marvel's best writers. I hope to see him write more of Stephen Strange in the future if the character somehow survives. Lee Garbett's art definitely looked better in print than from what I saw on the preview pages. Overall it was a strong start to the miniseries, and I am very interested to see where they go from here.

This issue was a hell of a lot of fun, but at the same time it almost felt messy to me. Chip Zdarsky has quickly become one of my favourite writers over at Marvel over the last year. I had a lot of fun seeing the FF interact with the Krakoan X-Men. For the most part Zdarsky managed to give the characters unique individual voices too. Seeing Franklin Richards getting the spotlight from a different writer was great to see as I personally haven't been enjoying Slott's take on the character. The issue also felt rich with continuity in the way that only a true Marvel fan could write. The art was good too. Dodson isn't one of my favourite artists but they managed to draw loads of characters on the same pages without the book becoming too messy. My issue with the book was that all of the characters and sudden changes in plot in the second half of the issue, made for the plotting to feel over the top and messy. However this almost added to the crazy fun of the issue, similar to how I enjoy the messy and speedy plot of Star Wars: A New Hope. Overall it was a fun issue and I am definitely going to be picking up the rest of the series.

I'm enjoying Tynion's run so far, but I'm not loving it just yet. The thing that I appreciate the most from this issue is the dialogue. Tynion manages to give the characters their own voices which in my opinion is essential for Batman, his allies (in this case Lucius) and his enemies. The story has me intrigued, but I'm not quite hooked. I've enjoyed all of the action, but I also feel like not much has really happened in the first 3 issues of Tynion's run. However I do want to keep reading more because I am a fan of Tynion's recent writing in other books and believe that once the series gets going he will manage to deliver on the promise of this series. On the art side of things I have absolutely zero complaints about Guillem March. The art is gritty and action packed, just as Batman art should be. It's going to be interesting to see where this series goes next.

This issue was fast-paced and fun, but not amazing. It reminds me of the Clone Wars tv series in many ways. Sacks' writing is good, if not a little bit generic. Villanelli's art, designs and interpretations of these characters is what has me invested, however I'm still unsure if I will keep following the series after the end of the story arc. Let's hope Boba's involvement can help this series make its mark, because his brief appearances have been the highlight of the series for me so far.

While the Avengers: Empyre #0 was fairly essential reading for the main Empyre book, this book does not really add anything for anyone who hasn't already been following Slott's run on the Fantastic Four. The only thing that really made this book stand out was Silva's incredible artwork.

Not a bad Harley issue, but this was not a good Wonder Woman story. I haven't read a Wonder Woman book in awhile but this was just kind of mediocre.

I want to like it, but I just didn't. There were parts I liked, such as Daken, Rachel, and Eyeboy's characterisation, but I am not yet convinced to continue reading this as a series. I do still have hope however, as this is still an interesting cast, premise and creative team.

Very mixed feelings on this. Byrne's art was absolutely incredible, but Bendis' dialogue gets in the way of the storytelling at times. However it is by far the most readable Bendis book I have read in years.

Bendis should not have both Action Comics and Superman. The whole point of having two books about the same character is so that there can be two different takes on the same character in case you're not into one. The only difference between Bendis' AC and Superman is that Action Comics has worse art than the flagship book.
