I can't give this anything less than a 10. All these writers came back to perfectly represent all eras of GL, and the best GL had plenty of attention (Guy Gardner). RIP Denny O'Neil. You were a great Batman and GL/GA writer. You also brought us The Question.

Fantastic and I can already tell that Carnage bit will be a future classic quote.

Wow. Some of King's best work on Batman to date, I would put this just under Batman Annual #2. Lee Weeks' art was perfect for every scene, and the trunks are back!

A twisted father/son camping trip. It doesn't stand much ground on it's own as it is very light in story length, but as part of the arc it is very atmospheric and the reveal at the end was pretty crazy. I love that Thomas Wayne used his skills as a surgeon and also that he can't stop singing while being with his unconcious son. The art is some of Janin's best to date. Absolutely gorgeous issue.

"...I'm still here" Damn, that last line gave me chills. So we see the often criticized use of a folktale from an earlier issue used as double allegory for the events of the run, and more parallels to Bane, with the climbing out of the pit. There is something really satisfying about Batman breaking out of his funk of the past like 20 issues and denying that Bane or Thomas Wayne managed to break him. Is this the start of the redemption act? It is also interesting how rooftops were where Bruce feels most at home, but almost everything terrible that has happened to him was atop a rooftop, and now while deep inside a pit, basically the furthest thing possible from a rooftop... he finds his motivation and strength to fight back. This run better have a happy ending where Batman returns to the rooftops with Catwoman. The art was really nice again, especially Thomas' bright crimson symbol while descending into the pit.

This was amazing. I didn't expect the City of Bane to literally be a working city ruled by Bane. It was simultaneously striking, alien, and hilarious to see all the villains doing what they do in this issue. Also the way y'know who shows up again? Perfect.

That was a beautiful issue and actually really captures the loneliness, and dodging, of a relationship with hurt on both sides.

Even better than the last issue. I am sorry everyone who hates this run, this might be my new favourite run. I love the Batman and Catwoman relationship too much.

Heavy issue. I can't lie Alfred's message hit me in the feels. When he says he made a vow like Batman did, only to see Bruce smile again... and how he saw that for a brief moment before it was taken away. By the end I really wanted Batman to kick his father's ass so hard. I got some Solid vs Liquid Snake vibes from this upcoming showdown and I am all in.

I agree in many ways with Linkush, this isn't a real ending and I was flipflopping on if I was completely satisfied with it. Hopefully it will be all wrapped up completely in Batman/Catwoman (especially since Gotham Girl is supposed to marry Duke by the end of his run, and that doesn't happen here). However as a celebration of this run I couldn't be more happy. Allegories out the wazoo with the football game (in Porky's!)referencing Batman's struggle, a sort of cheeky message to readers saying those who have lost will understand, and Batman and Catwoman having that realization they don't need a traditional marriage... because since when did they decide that law rules what they do? Yeah, pretty much as good an ending I could hope for with 20 or some issues being cut. The one area I did feel let down with was the showdown with Thomas. There was practically no action packed showdown at all, but really that was never what this run was about anyway, so I will forgive it. Oh, and looking forward to Tynion IV's run.

Batman (2016) Annual #2 Jun 20, 2018

A celebration of the versatility of Batman, from the darkest stories to the fun. This is basically Tom King's Batman Universe and a good aside to his run which features less traditional Batman.

I thought my enthusiasm for this book waned a bit over how long ago the last issue was... nope. One of the best books out right now.

If I could give a book an 11/10, I would give this a 14.

Incredible. Those 60 pages flew by and I still wanted more, that is rare to impossible.

Very odd for a Batman story, but also incredible. I loved everything about this book.

This was a very interesting look into what is going on in Batman's mind while trapped in the Dark Multiverse. It reminds of Snyder at his best in the days of the Court of Owls and how he can explore the more vulnerable parts of Bruce's psyche.

Love this.

Wow. This issue was a complete homerun. It is good the series wasn't all just shitting on Bruce, I was beginning to worry.

This book is incredible. All of the characters are well developed and interesting and given a full issue to themselves in this volume.

Everything about this book shows a team trying to achieve quality.

Dark Nights: Metal #2 Mar 29, 2018

For as messy as the middle half of this main event was, I was expecting Snyder to miss the landing, and while this final issue didn't fix everything wrong with the middle half of the event, it did deliver an epic and satisfying conclusion. This really should have been a Crisis title, but I think the name they chose gives you the impression it is a smaller event. My main complaint would be that the New Age of Heroes weren't really tied into the event at all, I was expecting them to be.

Tom Taylor does not half-ass anything. Despite being a spin-off this was entirely worth reading because of the quality.

Classic arc in the making.

Clayface has always been my favourite Batman villain ever since I was a kid, so I loved this modern retelling of his origin and hope it creates new fans. The art and environments were phenomenal.

A love letter to fans of Dragon Ball and mechs.

This was brilliant at times, I felt like I was reading a Young Animal book with how much it just wants to have fun and is trippy and self referential.

So glad this series got extended.

As a cat person I still have to agree with the ending.

Doctor Star and the Kingdom of Lost Tomorrows #4 Aug 29, 2019

What sets apart Doomsday Clock from other events recently is how confident it is in itself. It has high expectations to live up to, nerd expectations (looking at you friend whose name rhymes with Macy ;)), the highest of all expectations. For me it succeeds with flying colours. I predict a lot of purists will cry foul that Comedian was saved, but another group would complain if he weren't included at all. I was completely absorbed front to back. The art by Gary Frank really nails the darker aesthetic you would expect from the Watchmen meeting with the DCU and Geoff Johns is like the only writer I can think of who could do this justice. I think purists should get over Watchmen's legacy and appreciate the event for what it is. Watchmen will always be the fantastic graphic novel it is, that doesn't mean you shouldn't ever attempt to pull any risks or put it on a pedestal that can never be touched. Do you know how many ongoings have heroes with groundbreaking graphic novels? Pink Floyd didn't stop after Dark Side of the Moon. Why should Watchmen?

I was afraid we weren't going to learn more about Rorschach until the final few issues, with all the delays happening it somewhat gives the impression it didn't really progress the story, but collected this will be a really great part of the story to read and as always I loved the backup feature further fleshing out the world of Watchmen.

Filled to the brim with Johns' passion for these characters. There is just so much in this one issue.

We're in it now, boys.

Green Arrow (2016) #50 Mar 19, 2019

Grant Morrison shows he is well versed in Silver Age Green Lantern and as a fan who has been hoping for a return to that style, I am very pleased with this. Liam Sharp's art really surprised me, it perfectly fit Morrison's story.

An absolute dream come true for Silver Age GL fans, who are also Grant Morrison fans. Liam Sharp also deserves props for how incredible the art he is delivering on this title is, even if there was a slight error in panel 2.

Creative and a welcome change of formula for Green Lantern. This is already a modern classic.

Loved the Starlings dressed up for a funeral.

I have read numerous entire runs of Green Lantern and they are my favourite comics in all of comics, so I do not say this lightly... this is one of my favourite issues ever in GL history.

I read it a second time and got context for some of the other characters and I am now upping it to a 10.

I can't believe some of the things Grant pulls from... it is extremely rewarding as a diehard GL fan who has read all these stories. I can't wait for Blackstars and the return of this book! I was starting to wonder if I still like Liam Sharp, but this issue won me over on his art once again.

I think this deserves a 10 just for stand-out it is with its' roast, even as a big fan of Tom King's Batman. The story itself was good as always too.

I can't help but give this a 10. I have been waiting for ages to see the Darkstars return and this did not disappoint, they even made some interesting changes to the Darkstars that open up a lot of possibilities for stories in the future.

I really want to be more varied with my scores for this series, but this series keeps surpassing my expectations. I can't even predict what will happen in each arc and it is always something I didn't know I wanted. Like a twisted and grimey Little Mermaid love story.

Morbid, cynical, and great as always.

A hundred times yes. DC has squandered their JL book for too long since Rebirth began (Priest was better, but not perfect) it is so great to see a good Justice League book again, and the best way to start it was definitely with a new Legion of Doom.

Scott is killing it lately.

I'm all in.

This was incredible. So much lore and detail packed into one sci-fi epic and this felt like the culmination of everything Snyder has done the past 2 years.

Justice League Dark (2018) #11 May 28, 2019

Okay, I'll admit I am a little hyped right now but this is like the ultimate DC fan title, it is so cool to see these characters that would never interact with each other before on the same team and this makes the DC Universe feel even larger and is probably the most excited I have been since after reading Rebirth's one-shot. The art is also amazing.

Okay, wow. I love Marv Wolfman's old work a lot and my expectations for this were not high at all after seeing his recent work on the second Raven series, but Marv Wolfman may have had good reason to push for this to be published for so long. This story perfectly captures the feeling you want while reading a Superman story and though his origin stories are a dime a dozen, this is a very unique period of time for the book to take place and very well done. I dreaded this but quickly changed my mind.

The tone and dialogue grab your attention and refuse to relinquish. Can we get an ongoing?

Mister Miracle (2017) #7 Mar 16, 2018

Mister Miracle (2017) #9 Jun 14, 2018

That Stan Lee and Jack Kirby homage tho'

Jack Kirby would be proud as others have said. This was fugging good, dude.

I already miss it. Does anyone know what the successor teased at the end is? :V If they mean spiritual successor I hope it isn't Martian Manhunter. They have called that "Martian Manhunter by way of Mister Miracle" but I have far less faith in Steve Orlando.

Seminal work. A complete deconstruction of the Mister Miracle that is great for people who have read every Mister Miracle volume and easily approachable for anyone else. Completely stands on it's own and if you like stories that dive a bit deeper into the human psyche, this story is for you.

In a podcast on Word Balloon, Mark Russel said he grew up reading a lot of MAD and it really shows here. I am an Athiest who grew up in a very Christian area, including my parents, so these jokes really hit home.

Consider this a review for the full series since the omnibus is not listed. This story is masterfully crafted and entirely open-ended without feeling limited by that choice. Every book in the series could likely stand on its own and be a pretty good read, but it is reading them all together that makes this an absolutely incredible story. This longform story of Seven Soldiers who can only be successful as a team without ever meeting, leaves many unsuspecting threads to other stories in the line and it all builds to a climax that makes use of it all (just be sure to be extra attentive, as I missed a very important detail myself). This is basically the bible of how to successfully crossover several titles into a grandiose epic. Not all stories are equal however, sorry Mister Miracle.

That was a trip. Interesting concept, and very funny read.

Silver Surfer: Black #4 Sep 16, 2019

Off to a pretty great start. Funny enough even though Tom King is known for deconstruction of a character, this is the closest thing to silver age Adam Strange since his solo series in the 90s' changed his appearance and totally retcons his supporting cast's motives for the worse. The name of his daughter is wrong, it is supposed to be Aleea, but that can just as easily be blamed on the editor. Small con. It feels much different than I expected. It didn't wow me quite as much as Mister Miracle's first issue, but it is definitely a different feeling TK title. Love the art from both artists. Some fantastic visuals.

I am glad this isn't canon because of how certain characters are acting, not that Sardath has never had a heel turn before. This book is fantastic. The real star all along has been Mister Terrific. His giving Sardath the God Hand has cemented this issue as a classic.

This felt so grounded. Almost like a Nolan version of what Adam Strange could be. With every issue the story escalates further and you can just feel the tension with every appearance of Adam and Alanna as the investigation goes on in the background. Doc Shaner and Mitch Gerads both kill it as always. Throughout this series Alanna has felt very cold and scary, but given the past story and the 30 days of isolation and survivial, it really makes sense for her character to evolve in such a way. Definitely far from the sweet Alanna in the silver age days, but still a very gripping and deeper take on the character.

I am now realizing Tom Taylor is the perfect and only choice for this book since he isn't agfraid to kill characters.

The perfect ending to Tomasi's run on Superman and a real feel good issue.

I love this book. Adapting one of the most important Superman stories historically and with amazing Gurihiru art.

Portland hipster trash.

Somewhat surprisingly, Tom King really gets Superman. This was psychological and inspiring all at once. It is actually interesting to compare how Tom King's Batman deals with hopelessness vs his Superman.

All I want from my Superman stories are pure hope overcoming all obstacles, and both of these stories had that in droves. The second issue was very melancholy and hopeful simultaneously. Great stuff.

Superman in absolutes, much like Year One, but done much better.

Swamp Thing Winter Special #1 Feb 9, 2018

Classic in the making.

I am way into this story.

Here's these characters you never heard of before, now I'll make you sad about them.

This was fun and completely worthy of this run and the Sandman name. I will be sad when G. Willow Wilson takes over.

I will enjoy Si Spurrier while he is still on this incredible run.

Simon Spurrier closes out a near perfect run on The Dreaming and leaves everything back in the toy box for the next writer and man, I do not envy G. Willow Wilson for following Si's lead. I am happy this run ended before giving any chance to mess up and screw over Sandman's legacy. I am a bit worrisome for the next try at it. Be smart G. Willow Wilson, and only use characters you have the confidence to do justice. When people recommend Sandman from now on, this run will be a thought if the reader wants more. (BTW loved Dora)

Every panel of this first issue is burnt into my memory, ever since around 1997 when I first read it, there are few books like that for me. I am actually reviewing the original Image copies of The Maxx since I personally slightly dislike the colouring of IDW's run, but you could argue the more warm and soft colours of Maxximized work for the dreamy themes of the comic. It just comes at the cost of a sharper, more vibrant, and aggressive look that also works. The world of The Maxx is a real trip and is basically a big metaphor for escapism from your own problems, people who can relate to this will get the most out of it. I think The Maxx has gone overlooked for too long and is quite possibly my favourite comic book of all-time. Now, is the perfect time to revisit this cult classic since Maxx Returns was announced on the book's 25th anniversary.

This book is big and beautiful, really makes you appreciate the Black Label format. Denys Cowan's style looks tremendously different than it did in Denny O'Neil's run on the character and still so much different than his Deathstroke work, it is a bit sketchy but I dig it. Jeff Lemire has successfully returned Question to form while integrating aspects of Steve Ditko's Question.

This really could have been a Jonah Hex book, but I am not complaining. This has really made Question more of a mystical character, and that is a bit strange, but it also works. Loved it.

Very meta while remaining very true to Hellblazer's past.

A lot of fun to read and innovative storytelling.

It was really satisfying to see Batman go on a one-man army run through Arkham after all the depressing stories lately. Y'know, even if it was all a bunch of villains taking the fall.... Fall and Fallen. I get it.

I didn't think annual #2 could be topped, and I am not sure it was but this was a heartwarming story about my favourite old man in comics.

I love this book's style. I also have a theory to what is going on...

That Superman scene was so heavy...

Goodbye to one of my favourite modern runs. 50 whole issues all by the same writer, that is so rare in 2019.

Possibly the best single issue of Detective Comics since Tynion IV.

A good cure to dry eyes.

This potentially fixes everything wrong with the DC Universe since New 52 if they stick with it. Canon as it is now is questionable how it will lead here, but it sounds like it *will* happen. Also that surprise crossover... kind of blew my mind.

Eternity Girl #4 Jun 14, 2018

This story is hitting all the right beats, except for the nasty art. Luckily the artist seemed to put all his effort into the most important panel.

Wow, this is so much better than I expected and I was already expecting good things. Vendetti is killing it lately.

That was bizarre... I love it.

This is the arc I have been waiting for since the series started.

Man, this is like a Green Lantern fan's heaven right now. The Darkstars have actually been made cool, they always had such huge potential and Vendetti has donr it. He clearly has respect for the pre-Johns era GL and that makes me very happy.

This is the kind of Harley story we need. My only complaint is that Stejpan uses overused phrases a little too much (eg. Path to Hell is paved with good intentions, recycling door, and the definition of insanity). The art was beautiful and Harley is really well written.

I hate new Harley as much as the next guy, but this issue really worked. Sam Humphries is a good writer with a bad character and this issue showed him playing to the strengths she has.

As a musician myself I loved all of the song references a lot. My favourite issue so far.

Very tense and engaging the entire way through. Solid sci-fi story and an interesting format.

Great.

This was absolutely jam packed considering it is a 3 panel story with two stories unfolding at once. The last few issues it felt like whether something was up or not, was up in the air, however this one suddenly got dirty feeling. The art really captures feigned smiles and disappointment in oneself. As a fan of Adam Strange and his secondary cast of characters, and having to read Sardath's turn from lovable elder to messed up survivalist... I hope Alanna is only just making it look worse for herself. I am pretty sick of political comics, and this is definitely one, but it is actually relevant and comes off as realistic. There really is an alternative media station that loves to soil the water by bringing up much smaller things as a counterpoint to support their own, and rally its viewers together for conspiracies. They also got Aleea's name right. Giving me hope they go back and fix issue 1's typo in the trade.

Watch the movie first since this is a direct sequel, but I am pretty confident you will enjoy this.

Pretty solid celebration of one of my favourite heroes since being a small kid. The standout story to me was Marv Wolfman. I knew he still had it in him! There was a pretty good variety and I like how each Robin had their limelight. Also dug Tom King, Tomasi, Tynion IV, Amy Wolfram, Chuck Dixon (I legit thought he was blacklisted), and Judd Winick.

So much variety and different talents in this one. Tom King's story obviously stands out and it is good to hear more from that plot line. It was a really touching story. Paul Dini, Mindy Newell, and Ed Brubaker also had some solid stories. Man, Kelley Jones' Catwoman looks horrendous, but his Clayface more than makes up for it. One thing I realized while reading this is how awful some of Catwoman's art has looked in the past, even if it now stands as classic. Even Darwyn Cooke... that has to be my least favourite Darwyn Cooke piece ever.

Brian Azzarello's Joker story was worth it alone. The meta commentary was so well done and it is some of his best work in a long time. I also dug Punchline a lot more than I expected.

It was very pretty. Worth the wait.

The art and style were top-notch and I love Brian K. Vaughan from previously reading Private Eye. Really good issue. I am just wondering if you could speak Spanish and not English, if you could get an entirely different viewpoint by reading the Spanish sections? That would be brilliant since both characters end up with the same fate. I don't speak Spanish sadly so I can't confirm. (This review was 3 years late because Image offered it as their FCBD 2018.)

Really love the art here and the underlying mystery. The head has some dark commentary and it creates good chemistry with the main character.

This one has a ton of plot and twists. I was pretty gripped the entire read.

This was a great read start to finish. It is a basketful ahead the other Hillhouse comics.

Quite a welcome jump in tone, from overly optimistic and hopeful to dark and moody. I read an interview from Mairghread saying she wanted to capture the darker likes of Gail Simons's Batgirl and I believe she has succeeded tremendously with both this and to a only barely lesser extent #26.

Man I missed this goofy JLI-like Booster so much! He was so much more entertaining than his recent appearance in Action Comics. I was so confused by a lot of what was going on but slowly put together the big picture. My only complaint would be that I can't imagine Dick Grayson ever becoming what he was in this issue.

Fantastic. I had this spoiled for me incorrectly like 3 months in advance, the way it was executed was so much more sobering than I was expecting. I also liked the reference to his critics, I am sure that will make them happy. It was such a profoundly repetitive and pretentious moment, I must say.

Loved the tone in this one, and it is nice to see some of the ties coming together.

Okay, real talk. I really loved this. The art was incredible and stories that have James Gordon and the GCPD turning on Batman are some of my faves... there are also multiple threads being tackled all at once.

I was so confused up until the end, wow that callback. At first I thought it was going to be one of the many alternate universe Batman, maybe even the one we saw at the end of #60, but it seems we have taken a detour.

I didn't think of the rooftops connection before, I really loved the art and trippiness of this. Intrigued to find out just what the hell is going on.

Batman (2016) #66 Mar 19, 2019

There may have been like no dialogue or progression, but that doesn't make it bad, story telling can be done visually and what a beautiful issue this is.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS There were a lot of hints throughout the nightmares that Batman and Catwoman's love was false and this reveal has once again thrown this run over on it's head. Although it makes me slightly uncomfortable to see Batman tearing up because he realized he was in denial about false love, it is still a very human and relatable thing and makes it a pretty heavy plot point.

We learned so little to anyone who was actually paying attention. I actually have more questions... but the writing was on point and this issue is so quotable.

When I heard of Captain Atom showing up, I had predicted the government wanted to wipe Gotham off the map or maybe that Psycho Pirate controlled him and Bane was using him as a deterrent. I totally forgot somehow Gotham Girl is already a deterrent... This was pretty great. I am in love with this idea of Gotham being run by villains and it continues to deliver.

Batman (2016) #93 Jul 7, 2020

It was great seeing the Batfam all togerher and sharing their experiences with Alfred. Ric was surprisingly handled well, he stuck out like a sore thumb, but the story made good use of a shitty editorial decision.

This reveal was still pretty cool despite being spoiled ahead of time.

Love this. Strangely I think this might be the best use of the Dark Multiverse since Metal, and I love Batman and Superman teaming up. Best pair in comics.

The art isn't worse, it is just different. I love Nick Derington, he is like a modern Darwyn Cooke with strong classic vibes. I also love the chemistry between Batman, Supes, and Ra's in this issue. Williamson is doing a fine job with this one.

This is the best of the 3, I am convinced now. It is great to see Eastman's art.

Batslevania.

That scene with Azrael murdering a bunch of Arkham was 👌

Some of the writing was questionable, but can't say I didn't come out loving this and how far it goes.

The best issue yet.

These were all solid stories, but I especially loved Dan Watters'.

Batman and Green Arrow is a team up I didn't know I wanted and a Batman space adventure? Man, this is the best thing DC has gotten from the Bendis contract. Nick Derington is great as always, maybe a bit rushed looking in comparison to the last batch of issues.

Wow. Just wow. What a fantastic conclusion to this story, I thought it would be difficult to end on a high note but this has become a classic Batman Elseworlds story. Highly recommended.

Cool homage to golden, silver, and bronze age comics. From what I can gather it appears to be heroes dealing with a post-reboot of their universe.

Idk what to say... if the purpose of this book is to get me excited about all 3 of these books, well 2 succeeded and one was just a great short story. I had a discussion with a friend about Bendis' Superman story and her problem with the issue was that it doesn't explain anything, and I definitely agree with her, however Bendis gives a lot of details in interviews and I was able to piece it all together save for what happened with Lois Lane. Personally, I think Bendis did a pretty acceptable job. Tom King's story was short and sweet, and No Justice Prelude had some incredible art and visuals and did a good job introducing the teams. I hope the event itself won't be too cluttered. Totally worth the 25 cents.

You can tell Tom Taylor really loves the DC Universe with books like this and Injustice, and he works best with zero restrictions that mainstream ongoings don't usually allow.

And you thought nobody was safe in Injustice.

Tom Taylor just loves death.

Amazing. Loved Taylor's Green Arrow especially.

Dan Slott's insecurities about The Terrifics aside; this was a very enjoyable read, with lots of heart and character.

This was a surprise. I love whenever there is a new GL to follow and having one so isolated on their own in the middle of the farthest sector is a cool idea. I expected to not like Jo, but I was pleasantly surprised. She isn't obnoxiously full of herself, but almost cynical about her alien and inhuman surroundings. The art is fantastic and the colour options are very unique. For a Green Lantern book... it sure has a lot of teal.

It's starting to give me some Blade Runner vibes. GL meets Blade Runner? Yes please.

There are some flaws and inconsistencies, but the story is really good and man... that art is out of this world. Especially love the teal approach to the colouring.

This was a really good issue. Sam Humphries is turning this around for me.

This gives me hope for the upcoming series. Perfect character work for the Harley Quinn of this universe.

Incredible. I haven't heard this origin before, so I assume this was a reinvention of how he becomes reincarnated and why and I think it is a pretty interesting way.

Hawkman can do that? I'll accept it.

Does anyone else get the sense this arc (with the origin at the start) feels like a movie pitch? It even technically has an end-credits scene. I loved it, even if I was expecting the deathbringers to be end-run material.

Excellent. I see a lot of potential for an anthology of Hawkman's lives after reading this.

Running out of things to say about this book really, it is just really good. I am far too lazy to care about the Krakoan alphabet though.

I legitimately do not know where this is leading to and that intrigues me.

Great art and minimalist storytelling create a pretty atmospheric comic. I'm impressed.

Wonderful Vertigo Hellblazer at its best.

Nothing that new, but executed well and love this team.

This kind of Batman story has been told several times, and Jeff Lemire himself has written a similar story with Moon Knight. Even with that against it, it's still just a pretty solid comic book. It made his Joker series a lot more interesting by expanding it.

This was a really DC Crisis lore heavy issue and to have it in a normal issue of JL is kind of unexpected. Tynion IV does a good job making it all work and the comic felt very meaty. You definitely get your moneys worth.

I loved the old Legion of Doom and their emotional exchange with the younger heroes, especially Grodd and Flash. The art as always is way too good for a biweekly series.

Surprisingly good character chemistry, good art, mystery, and... apparently someone worships Cyborg and a crazy batfamily member? Okay, the last part threw me off guard, but I am way too on board with this to see how they will explain this.

God damn. Dan Abnett really stepped up his game for this one, this has officially become a book worth reading. I just hope you know... isn't actually y'know.

Continued to be impressed with Dan Abnett's JLO

A sequel that improves on it's predecessor in every way, and since the original was already quite solid, that is not a small feat.

This was the best Question appearance since he was first teased to be returning in Batman (although on second glance that is a female Question. The Lois Lane stuff was good too, ofc I suspect a certain crowd will be upset.

I am giving out so many high scores this week, but everything is so good.

This is a very tough book to review, since it is basically Looney Tunes shorts in comic format. If you love Looney Tunes, you will enjoy these stories since they nail the art of Chuck Jones and the writing of the classic Warner Bros. cartoons. There are 3 "shorts" in this book. The first is Down for the Count which is your typical Ralph and Sam slapstick, I loved that they showed Wile E. Coyote and Ralph in the same panel, not sure if the cartoon ever addressed they were separate characters. The second stars Daffy and Foghorn. In this short Daffy is holding a play of Macbeth and Foghorn warns him that saying Macbeth on stage causes bad things to happen. The third and longest story involves Sylvester and Tweety, Granny asks Sylvester to stay home and answer the door for her new pet arrival and the pet who shows up isn't who he expects.

Dick has always been one of the more positive characters and seeing him become so cold, cynical, and untrusting (Not unlike Bruce Wayne) in his latter years really hits home how bleak this future has become. The only thing keeping me from giving this a 10 is the thought that it was 12 issues of forming a nation and we knew it was being formed from issue 1, so story wise it may have told very little while being quite dense. Obviously I still love it, it was written well, but it deserves that criticism as who knows how it will hold up or even if it will be necessary reading material after X-men is finished.

This seems to be a sequel to Raven from a year or more ago, which I enjoyed enough. It is always good to see the creator of a character have a go at their creation again and I think so far this is looking very promising. I think Wolfman generally does competent work.

I feel like the art in this will be hated by some people, but to those who like it, like me, it will be one of the defining qualities of the title.

Like Mister Miracle, this is a series where the artist is just as important as the writer. I would say even more so, but we all know Donny Cates is a good writer.

A lot of buildup showing newcomers what kind of character Mister Terrific is. Constantly quizzing himself, with the help of his T-Sphere. This was probably the most Tom King portion of the book. He loves to use dry and casual scenes of characters doing what they do. Building up expectations for the reader. "Sometimes it appears you're in 3rd, but you're actually lapping the ones ahead of you" The scenes of Doc Shaner are all beautiful. The writing seems to be setting up some deeper themes of racism or colonialism. Mitch Gerads' art is perhaps on par and sometimes better in my opinion than on Mister Miracle, but they have completely different styles. My only concern is how this read as a second issue. It definitely leaves you wanting more than what was given, an issue that will be completely solved without the delays and being placed inside a trade.

Exactly what I was hoping for.

I enjoyed this ever so slightly less than the debut issue, but it seems like the beginning of something special.

The new characters are actually growing on me. I totally expected them to be death fodder.

The first half is great because I always like when Superman is viewed from a normal person's perspective, and the bit about contradictions... where Flash is said to be the fastest man alive, yet Superman has still managed to beat him several times. The second story is a literal deconstruction of what makes Superman *Superman* and is really well done. It also gives off the vibe of a sci-fi anthology which makes me all the more excited to see Tom King's take on Adam Strange in Strange Adventures.

I like how Tom King challenges Superman's morals by placing him in situations where he is forced to make a decision with no winning.

New writer Gene Luen Yang is doing a Terrific job. This actually feels more meaty than any of Lemire's single issues. Oh and it didn't effect my score, but I liked the cover that was making fun of Bendis' Action openers.

I surprisingly dug this. I don't like Cullen Bunn as a writer but he is always better at horror or violent stories and this played to those strengths.

The scene in this and #9 show Jon Davis-Hunt is a master of action scenes. This book always has had a very slow pace, but if you can look past that you will get total gems like this issue. Looking forward to see where this will go.

That scene with the UFOs just outside the small town? Incredible.

This was the standout issue of the week for me. A book that knows how to have fun with it's honestly incredibly lame character leads.

This is one of the best books coming out of comix right now. Disagree? Too bad.

Possibly the best message in modern comics.

Of all the TMNT/Batman crossovers so far, this one starts the strongest. I wondered what they would do after exploring both Batman's world and TMNT's in the previous 2, so combining them is like the natural progression and some of the designs are just damn cool like Red Hood Raphael.

I dug this issue. It gave us more character heart to hearts and even seemed to address Batman's mental state as of late.

Simple but good. The art really stole the show. Not that it is difficult, but this may be one of the best Katana stories in quite a while, even though it did nothing particularly new.

Batman: Secret Files (2018): Secret Files #1 Nov 1, 2018

Batman The Animated Series might just be my favourite run of any media of entertainment, and during the show part of what made it great imo is how grounded it was. Almost every villain in the show had a reasonable explanation to explain everything that is going on with them and why they become who they are. Psychology, science, whatever. The only really extraordinary or unbelievable concepts were like Supergirl and Etrigan, which seemed pretty alien to the rest of the series(but still were very welcome). That was like 2 episodes. There were a lot of unexplored characters and concepts that Batman is a lot more known for in the comic books, especially how he fits into the greater DC Universe. I am all for exploring that. I am so happy they got Paul Dini and Alan Burnett on board so this is the real deal.

This was surprisingly good with some excellent art, dark story, and great action.

The cliffhanger is obviously a fake-out... right? ...right? A solid issue that kept my attention all the way through (that is an accomplishment) and seems like it will have a lasting effect on all Bat books if this is part of the distrust for Batman in Doomsday Clock.

This had some real surprises and intense moments. Cool to see things set up from the start of Detective, and all throughout the run, come into play this far down the line.

Excellent and also confusing... I thought Batman carried over evrything from pre-New 52?

This was a good hook for a first issue of an arc and the cliffhanger was pretty crazy. This is like the Flash version of City of Bane, and I think that is pretty COOL.

There are some plot points seemingly being reused from earlier in the run, but it does seem like it is going elsewhere based on the "Next" cliffhanger and that could lead to an interesting arc.

Green Arrow (2016) #42 Jul 5, 2018

Julie and Shawna have come a long way since Birds of Prey. I would have never thought they would deliver the best Green Arrow since Jeff Lemire last wrote. I actually found this issue a bit sad...

This feels like a Green Lantern straight out of the 80s', just with an added flair of bizarre Grant Morrison. I like what the cliffhanger promises going forward. This is some of Liam Sharp's best work, only being beat by Green Lantern #1 and #7. Not counting the purposely(?) horrid designs of the evolving apedroids.

It seems like this is going to be the big finale and that makes me a little sad. Hopefully Grant Morrison decides to do a Season 3.

I didn't love this quite as much as previous issues, but it was still very good. Interestingly I remember a Green Lantern medieval story in Silver Age GL, but for once I don't think Grant Morrison was actually making reference to that. Also, this makes the variant I ended up with for #8 feel more relevant.

Donny "Always Good Except That One Time" Cates strikes again. This is one run that I am sad won't break the 20 issue ceiling™.

This is like the best Superman comic this week, except it isn't Superman. Loved seeing the GL constructs shatter and really emphasise the strength of Zod. Kneel indeed :>

Vendetti continues to do this justice.

The art was really bad, but Bryan Hitch has said the book couldn't afford him with the numbers it was pulling in and we should be thankful that DC took a loss to keep this book going. Anyway, with that aside, the story itself was really good and I am indeed thankful to still have Hawkman around.

As a guitarist since my youth, this book really spoke to me about why I am into and love music. It also is relevant to me as I approach 30 and get older. This is like the coming of mid-life age bible for musicians, who are also comic book fans. It is a simple over-the-top story, with underlying depth about leaving past regrets behind and moving on while yelling into the void.

Honestly, I read this to see how Scott Snyder would revitalize Spawn... only to find out this was mostly written by Todd McFarlane and if the book didn't say so, the Scott Snyder story wouldn't have even stood out as Scott Snyder. This still did its job of getting me interested in Spawn again. The story where Spawn is covering himself up without the symbiote is pretty damn cool looking. Congrats to Todd on being the longest running indie book! Although tbh I thought that was Cerebus? I have mad nostalgia for Spawn from when I was a kid, it's nice to be excited again.

Thankful at this point for any Superman that isn't written by Bendis and this is some good, basic Superman.

This is the Superman we all know and love. Great wholesome moments and laughs in this one.

Very solid use of Toyman and Lex. Kind of reminded me of the animated series a bit.

A Superman mystery story. Very welcome if you ask me.

The first story was very fun and I loved it, the second story was passable and a bit confusing.

I was sad to see the previous team leave the book, because I really enjoyed Superdad. However, Bendis is off to a good start. My only gripe is the cliffhanger was very dumb and tells you basically nothing.

So Wonder Woman Last Knight on Earth then? I do like seeing Wonder Woman get a dedicated graphic novel about the end of the world that would usually be reserved almost exclusively for Batman. I don't like the new Cheetah design.... eww. Yes, I get she is a mutation.

Somehow it felt very short, but it did it's job well of getting me excited for the upcoming months of DC Comics.

Mark Russel out-silver ages Grant Morrison with this issue. There were *so* many stories involving small families or civilizations in Silver Age GL. The commentary was solid as always too. Mark is one of the only writers I don't cringe at when they are trying to deliver a message.

Tom King is doing a great job of making KGBeast seem terrifying.

I don't know if seeing all the negative reaction lowered my expectations or not, but I thought this was awesome. I loved the gorey folktale visuals overlapping the fight between Batman and KGBeast, and his reaction at the end really shows we are seeing a Batman who is tired of the whole song and dance. This is going to be good. Love the Heroes in Crisis tie-in and also finally using Gotham Girl and the thread from Batman #50.

It was a fun issue, very much akin to the Super Friends arc. It will be nice to be over with the Knightmares though.

This felt very light on story, but even though it was over too quickly... I dug it. I am a fan of John Romita Jr sometimes and I would have never put him on a Batman book, but his art here is at least well inked and coloured which makes for a very interesting look, but not up to the high standards of artists this book has had.

Sweet jesus. I know people are expecting the climax soon, but how is this issue just a recap? It gave us mostly information we didn't previously know and could only speculate on. It is definitely convoluted as heck, but bitch... this ain't my first Metal Gear Solid 2.

Short but action packed. It is quickly becoming evident it will be impossible to tie all loose ends in 3 issues, maybe DC should have let him finish his run.

Thankfully this issue happened. I was so used to detractors complaining about not knowing what happened to Thomas Wayne for *ages*. I knew from the start it would be explained. So I would reply "It's a mystery. Keep waiting. That's what mysteries are... a mystery." Of course now that it is revealed they will continue to say things like "Tom King never had anything planned, he just made it up on the spot". It used to be "Tom King forgot". As for the actual issue itself, umm it sure isn't the kind of penultimate issue you would expect. The way it is delivered is a bit of a clusterfuck, likely due to the premature ending. It seems the flashback is being told in reverse from Thomas Wayne's perspective. I would have to reread it to confirm that observation. It doesn't really give much new information that observant readers couldn't already piece together, but it does explain how Thomas Wayne is still around. I also haven't read the Flashpoint Batman stuff from the past, so I can't say how much of his past is new material here, but I do like that he took Selina under his wing and they had a kind of father/daughter relationship. That establishes a connection between the two immediately, and with one issue left it is information that is sorely needed. Looking forward to the... wedding? Showdown? As well as Tynion IV's Batman, which I previously thought I wouldn't be.

It feels very plain after Tom King's run, but I still dig it.

Favourite one so far.

Love to see the Ultra Humanite again.

Salty Ultra Humanite is fun.

This was a lot of fun and good character moments for all involved. Atomic Batman looked really ridiculous though lol

This feels more reminiscent of Tynion IV's Detective run than Mike W. Barr's Batman and the Outsiders, and I would personally argue that is a good thing.

This was pretty enjoyable and I like that this book references Tom King's run, but without any real nod to Gotham City being the City of Bane, and Duke off not being married to Gotham Girl... the continuity of this issue is definitely questionable, at least until we find out Gotham Girl doesn't marry Duke until the end of Batman/Catwoman.

I liked this one.

I like the almost theatrical way Batman does his detective work in here, that is like my ideal Batman.

The best issue so far. More story than previous issues, but still fairly light.

Pretty much exactly what I wanted from this series, I now have an interest in checking out Joker.

Pretty standard Batman fare, but it is also a bit refreshing since there isn't a lot of standard Batman anymore.

Wow, some of these panels by Kelley Jones are masterpieces, like the one where you can see the batmobile taking off in the reflection of Commisioner Gordon's glasses. He also captures just what is great about the dark half of the dark Knight in his work. Scott Peterson is also worth bringing up for his clearly passionate writing of this character and his rogue gallery.

Batman The Animated Series had so much better examples of how Batman is responsible for how Gotham is, I would even argue some of these don't add up at all, but perhaps it is commenting on it from another angle, a butterfly effect rather than Batman indirectly or directly being responsible. I loved Kelley Jones' art and the story was still effective. It is good to see Scarecrow being used effectively, he hasn't had the best stories since Rebirth began

I am surprised I liked this. Like, you have no idea. I couldn't stand Seeley's Nightwing and his Hellblazer is awful, but I actually found this pretty well-written.

This was really strange... but I liked the heart to heart between Bruce and Dick.

These vary in quality, as they always do, but there is a sense they are getting better with each one. The standout to me was Steve Orlando's Midnighter and Apollo story, the choice of Mallah and Brain as villains they could relate to was pretty brilliant. Some of it was borderline fan fiction, like Stuart Moore's, but it reads like something your friend would write as an inside joke and that is kind of okay too. The Superboy story was pretty heavy too... that was a fantastic and well written short.

Some simple, well-written stories. Some felt too underdeveloped with the page limit. The standout for me was Steve Orlando's Batman with Greg Smallwood's art that perfectly blends the art deco of Batman The Animated Series with classic film and comics.

Most of these were enjoyable and for one of these holiday anthologies that truly is a Christmas miracle.

Interesting concept. I think the excerpt in the back about how people overthink love was an interesting read as well.

Very strange happenings in this one, but it is so welcome after James Robinson. This actually gave me Arkham game vibes. It felt like a story that would have happened on one of the missions, not complaining though those games had excellent writing. Also this could be a huge stretch but the font of "The Mark" looked a lot how I remember The Mask's logo and Doug Mahnke was very prolific on The Mask. Coincidence? Probably...

I like that Tomasi has come up with a way to reinvent his Arkham Knight character for comics.

I love the way Batman and Robin interact in this series, the ending felt far less grandiose than it seemed to be building to. Also Arcane was an awesome edition, but he felt wasted, he could have easily been replaced by Clayface or Poison Ivy and that seems like a big missed opportunity for one of thr coolest Swamp Thing villains.

I think Bats and Spectre have an interesting combative dynamic on a team. This honestly just made me want to see Kyle Hotz draw a lot more Spectre. With the pattern of appearances of certain underused characters since Rebirth mostly always leading to a series, I actually do expect a new Spectre series soon.

Simple but effective.

Pure Batman, can't complain.

Mr. Freeze has always been one of my favourite villains ans his execution here falls short of his Animated counterpart, but I still feel so bad for him and wish Batman could do something besides lock him away lol

The story was very light, sure. The visuals and narration by Peter's letter made it a decent read. Oh, and I know what a Kobold is. That reveal was hampered a bit by you, the writer, having to explain it to the reader.

So... this is not anything like Electric Warrior, but it does seem to be a future sequel to Kamandi and I am totally down with that. I actually am super indifferent on Steve Orlando (only really enjoying his recent Image work), so the fact I enjoyed this comes as a surprise to me.

I am into this. A mystery/espionage story involving some of my favourites in the universe, although I cringed when Batman said the Ghuls are not into New World Order. I feel like they would be all about New World Order given the numbers. Alex Maleev's art is the show stealer. Delivering the proper grit for a story like this.

I have been so flip floppy on whether I enjoy this book or not. It hits all levels of legit excitement and legit disgust. This issue specifically won me over though, Harley's character is obnoxious and just downright terrible, but the plot in this one shows that the book has growth. Like an old punk band starting to become too old to be singing songs about being 17. The 4th grade humour and annoyance was toned down (but still there) in favour of a solid plot with a darker tone.

The bad: Harley Quinn's characterization remains the more obnoxious one we have come to hate and she is extremely annoying in this issue. The good: The concept of Harley becoming a Fury and anything involving Apokolips for fans of New Gods like myself. It is strange but I like the story and hate the character (since Palmiotti)

Harley Quinn (2016) #46 Jul 20, 2018

I liked this almost entirely because of Lord Death Man. Harley herself is as obnoxious as ever.

All the references are perfect for fans of the DC Universe as a whole, if you came here for Harley though you may be disappointed.

Harley Quinn (2016) #57 Jan 20, 2019

Look, I can complain all day about how I hate this version of Harley, but Sam has found a better use than anyone in the past by making her extremely meta and confirming she is outside of continuity. This had some fun moments.

This deals with a lot of heavy themes and I respect that.

I didn't think I would miss this version of the character, but seeing this world and cast again did feel a bit nice. If you cannot stand immature Deadpool Harley, probably skip this one. Reading this really shows how much more emotional depth and maturity has come to Sam Humphries run as of recently. Side note: I legit thought this was a one-shot before finishing it. Guess I was thinking the Azzarello book.

I am genuinely shocked at the fate of one character, but it was executed well (pun intended). It will be interesting to see where this goes from here, I could see this going good or bad.

Clay Mann's art is really powerful here. I liked a lot of this, especially Barry's reaction to hearing Wally's news. It's good to see some of these characters let loose, I have always wondered if Harley and Superman especially are burying pain deep down.

Sometimes the crazy hero dialogue can be a bit confusing or hard to follow, but overall I liked this a great deal.

Anyone who thinks this is sexualized is a maroon.

It seems to slowly be becoming more familiar Hulk fare. The characters are all great.

It's becoming a bit formulaic with the body horror scenes. Also a bit light on progression. Still good though.

This is a big change in focus for the book, but I was kind of into it... even if I often forgot it was a Hulk book.

This is my review for the entire arc. So one thing immediately clear to me is that there are certain things Vendetti does better than Snyder with the JL and that is their personal relationships. Snyder wrote Batman and Superman's relationship fantastically, but kind of didn't touch on the rest of them as a web of friends. This is kind of what Snyder's time on JL was missing since it was more of an epic, so I like it for that.

Not my favourite issue, but this book is always great.

Fastforwarding on the relic search was a good idea. This book is finally starting to satisfy my need for more Jessica Cruz. I thought she looked pretty sick in that cloak with the blaster too, wouldn't mind if DC made that into a collectible.

So... is Cyborg officially a New God now? Because that is kind of awesome.

Making great use of DC canon.

So in preparation for this story I read both Gail Simone's Rose & Thorn and Tom Taylor's Rose & Thorn, to become more familiar with the character. I actually ended up digging this. I would say it is only for people familiar with Rose & Thorn and the DC Universe.

I liked the focus on Lois and Supes' relationship in this issue.

Loving this series. It really makes me miss Greg Rucka and I hope he gets an ongoing after this maxiseries is over.

I can already see the Dadwing jokes, but as someone in my late 20s' who avoids social networking and only got my first smart phone a couple years ago, I kind of relate. I found this issue a bit old school feeling, but I will take old school and simple over what Nightwing's solo was before. This issue honestly seems more in line with Oliver's politics, but seeing who wrote it I realized why it felt a bit Green Arrow lol

I love that they are finally doing something interesting with Nightwing, it's good to look forward to a book you have been disappointed in since Rebirth started.

I am enjoying this new direction more and more.

I likes this a lot. Actually making this tasteless turn of events into an actual plot that is interesting... good job Jurgens. I never doubted him after hearing his plans on Word Balloon to redeem this book.

Thank you for trying to scavenge this and turn it into something cool, Dan.

It ended in an open ended manner which I definitely appreciate. Solid ending overall.

Pearl was good and I look forward to issue 2, but what I really loved was Citizen Wayne. No, Citizien Wayne is not effecting my score, I just wanted to say it. There may be hope for Bendis at DC with his creator owned titles.

It was pretty good, feels like a slow burn type book with realistic interactions. My only complaint would be that the last few pages felt like they ran out of script, but what was there was still visually striking, even if it added nothing really to the story.

This issue didn't really progress the story much, but it had some good character moments and overall I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I am way on board with Jason returning to his roots. The main question is if this is a new status quo for Red Hood or just temporary since the title is still Red Hood and the Outlaws, crossing out the title makes it seem like a temporary thing.

8.0
Red Hood and the Outlaws (2016) #27 Oct 14, 2018

The way Jason dealt with Batman was pretty brilliant. I liked his characterization here.

Perfectly captures the look and the personality of the characters, and as a big fan of the source material, I absolutely adore this. My only worry is that it overuses concepts from old episodes too much. There were about 4 things from classic episodes in this one title and I hope it doesn't take away from this feeling like new episodes on paper.

So I am a bit late to the party, but there is this Marvel book everyone loves and I had to check it out after it ended. Did the first issue live up to the hype? Yes and no. First of all, let me say it is a solid issue and I am already seeing potential with Ghost Rider, but at the same time not a whole lot happened in this issue and it feels a bit light on content. Thor (2018) #6 Oct 22, 2018

I didn't love it. Anyone notice how Donny kind of adds a gimmick to every character he works on? Venom is now more dragon, Frank Castle is goofy and in space, The Inhumans had Vox, Silver Surfer is black, Rocket had a mech suit, and now Thor is Super Saiyan 3 Goku. I am starting to see this personal trope in his work. Sure, it's cool. Sure, it's epic. It is also a bit childish and tryhard. It just makes me wonder if Donny is capable of writing a standard story without altering the characters in any way.

A couple things: 1. Why back to the purple costume? Don't get me wrong I like it, but she literally just changed costumes and I liked the new one. Was it because it is too sexualized? 2. Not digging it as much as I was Tom King's run, but it is alright. Is it just me or does it seem like Tynion IV is going for another big masterplan immediately after City of Bane? It almost feels like he is telling the same story we just heard, but minus the stylistic writing or depth that came with it. Overall it is an enjoyable but completely disposable Batman so far.

It's really a hard pill to swallow that there is evidence all over the world that Captain America was not responsible for Stevil's hostile takeover as part of Hydra, but some conspiracy theorists have a big enough voice to make it a problem. I just find it all very unrealistic, there would definitely be a small percentage of the population who is crazy and believes it was actually Cap, but conspiracies usually are a vocal minority at best and don't really have any power in the grand scheme of things. I won't hold this wacky writearound for Hydra drama on the current writer though, it isn't his fault Nick Spencer decided to make two Caps and therefore make it much more difficult for Cap to have to rationally deal with the aftermath of something he personally isn't responsible for. I know this sounded really negative, but my problems are more with Secret Empire's cop-out ending, more than this issue itself, and that is why I am still giving it a positive score.

This was an alright arc. It was basically Lady Killer 3 but toned down and it would have been the worst of the trilogy.

This issue delivers some solid action that flows nicely from panel to panel, but Joelle Jones doing the art is once again missed.

The action in this series is consistently excellent, but it would be nice to feel a sense of conclusion to the events started from #1.

It was nice to see Jolle Jones art again, even if for two pages. I wonder if her offer will take part in City of Bane.

There were some feel-good moments and lots of references to Wally's awesome Flash run, but please never make Donna Troy talk in hashtags again...

This is basically a solo John Stewart story where Huckleberry Hound takes the place of a washed up comedian in a bar that he shares his stories with. In other words, Huckleberry Hound is really only an aesthetic to the story and doesn't help nor detract. The story itself is pretty solid, but only recommended for Green Lantern fans, like myself.

By no means perfect, but fun if not a bit messy. I liked all the cameos in this one.

This started feeling a lot like Batman Universe and it got me excited for it. I liked the team-up of Flash and The Atom, but I don't like how much Atom worships Flash for being a scientist... he said Flash was the only one! What about Ray Palmer?!

I am a sucker for these shorter silver age style Flash stories, especially when it brings back the GL team up.

Solid, but not quite the game changing debut I was expecting from Tom Taylor.

This one is strictly for GL fans and even then, mostly those of the Silver Age GL. Grant Morrison is giving us Silver Age fans a lot of love at the expense of everyone else. That is a double edged sword. Even with that I found the art pretty hideous and at times it was a bit hard to follow.

I like their relationship here, like when Ivy offered to turn around and finish the job. Simple and effective.

The criticism around this issue is so exhausting. Love is mentioned twice, but I guess we should all ignore common sense and dive face first into the river full of identical logs, as we all roll downstream without any individual thoughts or rationality. While we wallow in the bliss of anger and stupidity. I can justify the choice easily. This wasn't the real Ivy, she was only along with Harley the course of this series. Therefore she doesn't feel like the true Ivy, hence the sorrowful goodbye kiss as she disappears for good. "Cinema Sins" complaints would have also been raised about why they had time to make out while in a hurry, differentiating between a quick kiss on the lips and making out is more difficult in a still image. I do love this relationship and I am a straight man. I do not mean to offend anybody if I misrepresented what they found wrong with it. I just don't think DC editorial pulled a 180 on bi-sexual representation (BoP came out the same week and has lots)

This is my review of the entire arc. So this is a weird one... it isn't really a good story, or that well executed, but I can already tell it will be a very memorable one for how much of a thinking man's comic it is. It asks the question of many differing viewpoints and what the best course of action is. Immediately it is clear who Simon Spurrier's favourite Justice Leaguer is, as it is quite clear Simon Spurrier at least suggests to us all along that WW might be the one with the right opinion, but many of what happens kind of undermines her own points. If the point of WW's ideals are to not interfere when the citizens are about to kill one another, why is she okay saving them from others? Aren't both instances interfering with the natural course of their civilization?

Nothing a whole lot to say about Looney Tunes, you get exactly what you expect. These books are basically just new shorts in the style of classic Looney Tunes animations that Warner Bros. haven't really done a whole lot of in the past 30+ years. The art and writing is spot-on. This one focuses on Sylvester. The thing I always liked about Sylvester, and generally all Looney Tunes characters, is how teaming him up with certain characters can completely change his role and personality. Team Sylvester up with Tweety and he will be always get mauled by dogs while scheming to get a snack. Team him up with his son and he will be a dad who goes to great lengths to impress his more intelligent son, but always fails. Team him up with Porky as a pet, and he becomes a silent character who deals with some threat Porky is completely oblivious to. Classic stuff.

Looney Tunes #244 Aug 19, 2018

The first story feels like a bit of a retread of an already existing Bugs Bunny short that parodies Jack and the Beanstalk, but the art is so spot on and it is still enjoyable for what it is. The second story reeks of modern writing and doesn't deliver a satisfying short. The third has the perfect duo of Insurance Salesman Daffy and the talking Super Genius Mud (aka Wile E. Coyote) and it is actually incredible that these two have never met in a short before, the concept of Wile E. Coyote needing insurance is brilliant. Although, this story is not my ideal vision of this pair, it still worked and was my favourite of the three.

Aside from a few typos and some robotic artwork, this had me interested.

It might be because I read this in two sittings, but this one didn't grip me quite the same.

Interested to see where this goes since I am not very familiar with the character. The dark art works well to convey the action and turmoil Rory is dealing with. It gives me a Venom vibe, if the symbiote were a bunch of dead soldiers.

The art was great and the character interaction is mostly great, but I wish every instance of the main cast being bad people wasn't immediately met with the equivalent of "we're just pretending to be bad". I also feel like the Suicide Squad is popping up in nearly everything, but anything is better than their own book I suppose.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man #15 May 21, 2018

There were some good father/son moments here, and maybe I have a bad memory but I feel like we saw this cliffhanger already?

I didn't hate this one. I like that *spoiler* was returned to *spoiler* and also some of the momente between the Els and Zods.

I think I liked this one. Damian was oddly happy and friendly, but forgivable given the topic.

I didn't mind this one.

Probably the most I have ever been onboard for Bendis' direction of Superman, while also completely disagreeing with everything the direction entails character wise and longterm. Literally the worst idea, but good execution here.

So in an interview John Romita Jr. basically confirmed he was what this story was based on, his youth and the general beats. Ignoring this is *not* the definitive Superman origin, it may be the definitive and most realistic representation of growing up in a smalltown in the praries. I have often been embarassed of where I grew up and despised it, like many people from the praries, but this book was so relatable to me and actually made me nostalgic for those years. If a comic has that kind of effect on me, it must be doing something right. I so want to award this a higher score, but it had parts that dragged on a bit long. It may not go down as the best Superman origin, but for me it seems like it will at least be a very memorable one. I also like the addition of Superman joining the SEALs. This is supposed to be the Superman of Dark Knight Returns, so that detour makes sense.

I guess I will be in the minority on this... I think the writing is very outdated, socially. Many people may have a problem with that. Clark Kent's relationship with Lori is also about as deep as a Disney relationship, but while reading it I started to notice how much it read like myth and I really dig that. If you do end up liking this story too, you sure get a bang for your buck... it clocks in at 65 pages but feels longer than many 80 page books. It is a beefy book.

This was pretty nostalgic. It is great to see Marv Wolfman writing the Teen Titans again and this series really hasn't had character specific stories, so more of that will certainly be pleasant. Anyone who gets mad at character development that they won't agree with, stay away from this. However, I found the conclusion to this story pretty satisfying. It makes sense that Alfred being killed in front of Damian would have such a negative effect on him. He is only 13 years old. I'm interested to see this new direction he will go, and for any Damian fans upset... don't worry the status quo will be normal by next year as always.

Geoff Shaw's art really shines here, it was a very quick read, but I am intrigued.

The coming weeks will prove if this is more than a neat gimmick, but I had fun with this one. I got a 3 badness score, always knew I was a bad boy.

This was pretty fun but it will take time to see if it is a worthwhile book since this was all setup practically.

Young Justice (2019) #8 Sep 24, 2019

I had to jump on in the middle of several ongoing stories, but some were relatively new reader friendly. The Judge Dredd story was the stand-out.

Unlike the previous issue, this one seems like it could be a good jumping on point, since it seems to be starting several new stories.

As far as Superman books currently being published go, I would rank them as: 1. Superman Up in the Sky 2. Action Comics 3. Superman Year One .......... 100. Superman This book was pretty good at setup for Event Leviathan and it was genuinely entertaining for the mystery to be unraveling, but enough is enough. Everything Bendis does with these books feels like artifical lengthening. Now, I might have to put it below Year One. At least Year One is doing something unique and unexpected.

Decent.

Just as charming as ever, but maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it this time.

It does a good job of setting things up for the future, but it felt like that is all it was. Also Mary Jane slipping on laundry and putting her arm through a window? Okay... apparently Pete should stop lubing up his clothes.

I don't know how to feel about this one. I loved the humour, but when I wasn't being humoured I was left feeling like something is missing. The art was both incredible (the first 2 pages) and bad. It was very inconsistent.

Honestly, I didn't care about literally anything happening, but Gleason's art was incredible. Especially the page with Silver Sable's LMD getting its head blown off.

The execution is a little lacking and there are more coincidences than you can shake a stick at, but it is intriguing nonetheless.

Batman Beyond (2016) #41 May 4, 2020

Not bad but a bit rushed. The action is kind of laughable after reading Warren Ellis' The WildStorm.

My initial thoughts were it felt like Warren Ellis is barely even trying. Most of the story takes place in the batcave, across several issues, where Alfred is sassy to the point of approaching antagonistic behaviour toward Bruce. Then I realized the one who really deserves the blame for not trying is Bryan Hitch. So much of the page count estate is taken up by action that is awkwardly framed and flows poorly, it is completely embarassing when compared to the action in Warren's The WildStorm, which honestly had some of the greatest in all of comics. I once again loved the theatrics of this Batman's detective work. Disappointing, but not bad in short.

A good deal of this issue is spent explaining or referencing The Maxx and that is slightly disappointing, if not understanding. The little story we did get is very promising and I think Batman's universe lends itself to The Maxx more than I had expected. I'm just excited to have a new Maxx story. He is possibly my favourite comic book character of all-time.

So close... so close. I very much appreciate this is a thing that exists, Maxx is my favourite comic book after all, but The Maxx is only represented here in his base form from the first 20 issues and it doesn't seem to have any place in continiuity. The crossover works well, but also feels like it could benefit from going further down the psychological route of Maxx rather than playing it safe to suit the wider audience.

Don't force politics onto characters you write. Why is Alice talking about the "male gaze"? I am sorry but it is so ridiculous when you are reading a comic and something stupid like that takes you out of it. Other than that the issue was fine, a few flaws here and there.

The art is great as always, but the story and characters are a bit bland.

Okay, I actually really like this twist if it means bringing back who I think it is...

I do not like Tini Howard, but this was actually not the worst.

There is something here, I am not one of those nuns who will just write anything sexual off as the devil's work. There is a genuine uneasy and off eeriness to it that is gripping. However this 7th issue follows a very similar formula to every issue before it and that is pretty disappointing. There are a lot of themes coming into play, but it is currently spinning its wheels.

It was alright. I can't lie that I was a little disappointed in Spidey's quips and him bringing up that they can't all be zingers was cute but didn't give it a pass to me. I have a friend really excited about the cliffhanger, so maybe others will get more out of it.

The Avengers story was fairly good for setting up the new run, the Captain America story was maybe too light on story.

7.0
Flash (2016) #63 Feb 8, 2019

Definitely better than the first issue. I liked Gail Simone giving Flash a few hero moments at the beginning. Shift kind of seems like an attempt at a character with depth, but she faills short.

It was some really cool imagery seeing a future city dominated by speedsters, but something is just missing from the execution.

Weird Science can not get me wrong. I am not thinking of any of these digital titles as a stop-gap, in fact I think they are just as every bit good as mainstream titles and that is why I hold them to the same standards. This was okay. Definitely won't ever be said to be the definitive Reverse Flash story, but for a passage of time and entertainment? It does the job.

Flash seemed not so much himself in the first part, at least until the end. The second story was pretty decent.

Fun, disposable silver age style stories. Riley Rossmo really delivered on the art in the second story.

Both stories had good concepts and execution, but were nothing new.

A passable conclusion. I have generally liked this series but it is often hit or miss and this one I would say is near the middle.

Wow, the Red Hood and Robin fight was so forced you could practically see the puppet strings, and I get Damian is psycho... but my god, man. The only saving grace is the second story which decides to not be as trashy.

I feel like her origin doesn't add as much as it should, and we would have been just as fine not knowing. Glad to see the book is still kicking though.

The good - it is pretty ambitious with a lot of characters involved. The bad - it is really confusing and the characters seem like nothing more than their base selves, a problem I have with anything Orlando writes.

Didn't hate it. The whole staying visible concept was a neat idea, but it was honestly way more sex than horror. I hope Maria Llovet gets more work!

The art is very hard to follow. It is a combination of being too busy, not flowing well panel to panel, and everyone is painted like a part of the background. There needs to be more contrast between characters and the environment.

Amazing Spider-Man (2015) Annual #42 May 1, 2018

I was so baffled by the plot of Kraven coming back to life and making 87 Benjamin Button clone sons of himself and his weird PETA/but also hunter idealogies. There was so much story in this one issue and yet I don't feel fulfilled or excited for the future issues.

A bit of a mess and Nick sure loves his force fields. As a regular Spider-man story this is fine, but knowing this is supposed to be a Last Hunt-esque story makes it a bit insulting. I personally can't stand Sword Art Online type stories involving VR that traps the user, it is very cliche at this point.

This feels like a story we have been told before and doesn't really offer new insight into anything. The art went back and forth between being tremendous and barfmendous.

Cloak and Dagger (2018) #3 Aug 3, 2018

Well this was a bit of a mess, wasn't it? I have a feeling this was a fill-in arc and Vendetti didn't have much to do with it, his writing is usually miles above this. If you are trying to kick off a new character you should give more focus on the character himself rather than comparing him to Poison Ivy or Swamp Thing, we already know and like those characters. The point of this book is to sell us on Damage. You can tell they want to go for the old Hulk issues where Hulk would go toe to toe with someone in the Marvel universe, and that is a good idea, but we need to focus more on the title character instead of just making him a gimmick.

Well, this was a bit of a disappointment. Everything I have read by Gail Simone up till now has been fantastic (even the recent Wonder Woman\Conan) but this left me feeling very unsure. I found Domino a bit obnoxious and the plot a bit light, but I am hoping we see more of Deadpool and the cute doggo.

Eerie. Didn't love it or hate it, intrigued by it though, and interested in the series returning.

I do think it is cool to see Gail Simone on Flash, but this issue was pretty weak. I am guessing King Shark constantly referring to himself as a shark must be how she characterized him in Secret Six, but as someone who hasn't read that... it was just kind of bad dialogue.

Not terrible, but basic and empty.

Perpetua being a part of this book definitely took me by surprise. Orlando is working well with canon in this book, but the story itself is a bit empty and crap.

Some interesting bits, but largely forgettable and not particularly deep.

I think the problem with the book is it has too many characters and some of them feel underdeveloped or just kind of there. It is a similar problem I had with Steve Orlando's Justice League America, where it had a bunch of cool characters, but they didn't really have any chemistry on the same team.

I kept losing interest before it was over and had to reread pages several times over. What happened? It was a little boring.

Not bad, it is funny how it feels legitimately desperate. I still have a problem with Gwenpool's characterization. She was never this Deadpoolish.

Hellblazer (2016) #23 Jul 3, 2018

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS Wally has his own Scarlet Twilight and I predicted it from the first issue. As expected the response is quite wild, but this issue is not entirely without merit. It does show a dark look at mental illness, and it isn't like the seeds weren't planted since Rebirth. What sucks is the execution. I feel like Wally snapping and doing it of his own free will would have been a lot heavier, instead he sees he isn't alone and loses control of the speed force, which makes it look like an accident and that he hates the idea of other people sharing similar pain. Also, instead of looking to his friends for help and explaining that he didn't mean it... he executes an overly convoluted plan that really hurts the brain to follow, it is so comic booky and ridiculous. So, in the end you are left with a comic that seesaws between feeling like heavy commentary on mental illness and also feeling like a shock comic in the style of Death of Superman or Emerald Twilight. So, the good news thinking of it as the latter is that Emerald Twilight did not ruin Hal Jordan as a character but instead lead to a great redemption arc during his time as The Spectre and then lead into his most famous run to date. So if you are a Wally fan, remember not all hope for the character is lost.

This could have been so much better had it had a segment for each JL member, instead it retreads on old ground and doesn't say anything new about Batman.

A simple, and more engaging than average, story from this not so great run. I like Chronos as a villain and reading this just made me want an Atom ongoing, as long as the writer is someone competent.

Not a total waste, but the best thing I got from this is knowing it is no longer part of my weeklies.

The art really hurts this issue, also not sure I like Jessica's new bitchy confidence.

It quickly became a problem when the whole Legion was thrown at you at once, and felt like they talked just to talk.

The art was amazing and it did have a kind of nice isolationist stream of conciousness thing going on in the middle, but I just wish not every Bendis character spoke like they say the first thing that comes to their head, while being on a caffeine rush.

The pizza with pineapple of Absolute Carnage tie-ins. (So not the worst, it's still pizza. The others have pineapple *and* peanut butter. Except the one about the family. That's pepperoni.)

I found this issue quite boring and is it just me or is Nick Spencer avoiding character interaction between Pete and MJ? We have had so little since they got back together, it is always how much they love one another or interrupted by another character. It makes it difficult to care that they have got back together.

I actually didn't hate this. It was extremely simple, but I was so taken by the monster designs that I was imagining a Godzilla-esque comic in the DC Universe with these monsters... sometimes you have to make your own fun.

Aside from maybe 2 stories, there isn't much here. The ghosts of Elongated Man and Sue being the storytellers that connect everything was a good idea.

It felt like a bad Harley Quinn comic. I already miss Duggan.

A montage of standard hero fare, but not a terrible try for her first ongoing. Although, I would personally avoid using dialogue like "You are a person. You have person problems." The reader should be able to judge that for themself without being told.

Justice League of America could use more passionate writers for the source material and characters, but the removal of Batman from the team is a welcome change. The man already has enough to deal with. The art was actually very excellent this time around. If only the writing were it's equal.

Foxxy Lady, Fishnet Francine, Draculass, Fragman, Pepsiman, and Lightbulb Gladiator take on that disguised alien in Mars Attacks. Steve Orlando does none of them any favours.

There are 4 shorts in this one. 2 of 4 are good, but all are enjoyable for anyone who is a fan of Looney Tunes and has exhausted all the classic shorts.

Even for Looney Tunes fans the shorts this issue are barely passable.

Only one of the stories were new, I don't know if that is the way it has been all along but I noticed it this time.

Not as bad as the past issues of this arc, at the very least it gave us a pretty good quote involving crowbars.

So disappointed. Scott Lobdell improved a lot at the beginning of Rebirth, but I just want someone else to write Red Hood now.

The issue itself is fine but the road to get here really dampens my excitement for the return of Wolverine, especially when he truly isn't here yet and the pacing of this issue barely moved us forward at all.

Leonardo Romero's art is so gorgeous and very comic booky. The book has solid writing, but I was intensely bored up until the last page. I think this may end up not being for me in the long run, but I am intrigued to see where it goes next issue.

This legit feels like a Spider-man movie script. One that never got made. It has that same unambitious and not straying too far from what the public knows about Spider-man feel, while making it penetrable for casual fans. The writing isn't terrible (I don't like JJ Abrams so consider this me being fair), the art is incredible, but it feels empty. There is something not fully developed here. I didn't like it, but I am not writing it off completely yet.

I honestly don't get if everyone else who reviewed this was being 100% honest with their opinions or not, but I am here to give some constructive criticism that the writer may not see... but hey that is the internet. This is clearly a passion project and feels truly indie, they have a gmail and bandcamp. The bandcamp page is to serve as a soundtrack for the story and that is really neat. They are clearly ambitious. However, cute cats can only get you so far and the pacing is a bit too rapidfire, I think this first issue should have spent more time developing the characters. Good luck to the team on future issues, this isn't a homerun, but it has potential.

And the cliffhanger for this issue is... the exact same as the first issue. Oh lord.

A lot of cliche writing with a bit of tragedy. But the real tragedy was seeing how disrespectful the writing was to Batgirl's intelligence as she swoons over Jason Bard with the stink of desperation.

The story is basic and fine but that art definitely looks like the art of a book soon to be cancelled. EDIT: Did that dude from Weird Science seriously call this art decent?

Did Catwoman need a zombie outbreak yarn? No, not really.

I am disappointed because I like Marv Wolfman and I like Cyborg as a character, but man he has no luck in solos.

An average Hellblazer story that does nothing to want to stand out. It was neither terrible or good. Just kind of a thing that exists. One thing that has been in this entire run and never really bothered me till now is the censorship of cursing. Sure, you can take a guess and find out pretty easy what he is saying, but this is an adult series. How can other DC books have gore and adult themes in Rebirth, yet the former Vertigo series gets harmless curses censored? Someone please fix this.

The writing is so bizarrely innocent and ignorant of technology that I legitimately think it reaches the ridiculousness of a B-movie and is a fun read, despite it feeling like being funny was not its intention.

The second half of the series felt like it really didn't need to exist, at least it isn't the end... possibly.

This felt like the most nothing story of the year from DC, and is probably only beaten by Spider-Geddon overall.

I grew up reading Sonic from #1-150ish so I thought I would give this a try. It is clearly for children so the plot is very light and there is very little outside of action. This must have been the easiest issue to write. The art is decent and it is inoffensive.

This one wasn't half bad. It had some genuinely good moments. If I had a better opinion of Bendis' idea of Superman, I may have even liked it. I can't get past that despite controlling both Superman titles that his idea of direction is a bit misguided and isn't as fresh as he thinks.

Well, that brief period of Venom being great was way too short. This arc was very average and relied on shoddy evidence that I feel nobody who knows how symbiotes would work would actually buy. At least we get to see more of Lee Price and they are doing something with thosw first 6 issues that starred him.

I'm just not feeling it, Mr. Krabs. I don't care for this arc at least, the first issue was great and I hope we get more of that and also less of Ryan Ottley. I am sorry, but this deserves better art. Some of the humour was borderline funny. Idk man *shrug*

Predictable. I could tell going in that it wouldn't actually answer anything. I am starting to think it is Flash maybe, or Harry. Once again, Pete and MJ's relationship seems to be entirely in bed, even if sometimes that is a bed of webs. Still interested to see where this goes. Nick Spencer is good at setup, but not so great at sticking the landing.

Well, the cliffhanger was nice but predictable. I am still a bit sore it took until MJ left for this book to have any meaningful interaction between the two.

Not terrible or good by any means.

Cool idea to be using this as an opportunity for some Aqualad stories. They were just kind of meh though.

Is this really a one-shot? It feels incomplete. The standout here was Rafael Grampa's art. Loaf of bread Darkseid was a visual treat. It really almost made the book worth reading, but the story itself can only be summed up as confused.

The only Donny Cates book I am not enjoying. It seems to favour being moody and shocking over actual substance.

Is Wolverine here? Nope. Is he over there? No. We got all this crazy research that gives us only a million leads, is that any help? Nuh-uh. Well, did you look between the cushions? I like Soule. He is a competent writer, but unfortunately he was given a garbage assignment. This is competently written garbage.

This book quickly stepped into a very poor man's Alan Moore to me. The narration tries so hard to be profound, yet says nothing. Bruce Banner's dad is entirely unsympathetic which is not a sign of a good character, even contradicting himself at times by worrying about his wife's health and later faceplanting her.

I suppose if you are a fan of the current direction of Marvel comics, you will probably like this. It will do very little to win anyone else over. Also does anyone else realize the cliffhanger is just "Invasion!" which is a little suspicious since this one is called "Incoming!"?

Oh dear... suddenly I am not liking the direction of this story. It went full gimmick and the excuse for it is a little goofy. The one-shots should be fun, but I now fear for the main event.

A finale that certainly feels like one, but with how poor the run was overall (with exceptions briefly issue 13 and on) it isn't really possible to end in any meaningful way and kind of just ends on a dull point. I am not going to sugarcoat this... Hickman's writing has gotten to me. Usually I am complaining that certain books rely too much on humour or action, however this has the complete opposite problem. Everyone talks like they are politicians who just downed a bottle of sleeping pills. Unbearably boring. I might drop it if this is the tone going forward. This is the kind of book that would be great to read if it is the only series you follow. You could take in all the density of the lore, but given that I read like 20 books a week and the X-men are not in my top 5... frankly, it kind of makes me not look forward to reading it other than to rip the band-aid off.

X-Men: Blue (2017) #22 May 14, 2018

This was kind of confusing and a chore to read.

Love Oeming's rendering of Warlord and Skartaris, but found the young people banter annoying.

This was an incredible chore to read. The part with female Electro wasn't interesting and despite her saying "this is the first time people have voted on a public execution" the exact plot point happened in a previous issue of Green Arrow from not long ago, and better might I add. The art with the Kindred is so obvious now that it is some sort of Spider-man. Whether or not to trust that idk. Was the final story really written by bots? It is an interesting experiment I guess, but it was strange to see what would usually be some goofy YouTube video as a comic story.

Underwhelming.

Add some gameplay between cuts and the dialogue will feel right at home.

I enjoy the idea of the teens going on road trips and getting into shenanigans and acting really awkward with one another, but the conflict in this arc was pretty messy and near nonsensical.

After Martian Manhunter and the first issue of this, I was starting to think Steve Orlando got his groove going... I was mistaken. At least Martian Manhunter has been consistent.

I agree that it is good to see old canon acknowledged and brought back, but everything else in this was a chore to read. DC needs to give Hellblazer one of their A writers.

That part where they were supposed to be hitting it off was so poorly written that it felt like one of those scripted calls Microsoft used to show while demonstrating how Skype works.

Justice League (2016) #38 Feb 10, 2018

I don't think this is totally without it's merits, but I think this fails tragically as a comic book. There are just so many concepts here and the pacing would be much better suited to a printed novel. The art is interesting and very alien, but I actually believe it would work better if left to your imagination. I am not easily giving this a negative score since I believe there are positives that could be put towards a good novel as I said, but as it is the execution just seems sloppy and ill-suited to the format, it feels sometimes like the art and writing together are fighting over which should grab your attention.

It started off really strong and intriguing with an ambitious concept and legitimately good writing, but somewhere along the road it just falls on it's face, for me that is everything after #4, and becomes a repetitive story about the heroes discovering to be heroes again... For the 3rd time. Some of the characters discovering this don't make a whole lot of sense, like Sam Wilson who only hung up the shield for about 3 issues. The end conflict was also not satisfying at all. The best thing you can say about this event is that it was interesting and definitely deserves to exist, but the execution itself is where it fails to deliver.

This was very underwhelming.

I could have done just fine without this issue. Considering the writer is Zoe Quinn though, I did expect it to be far worse.

This story isn't very interesting or well put together, but at least she isn't the same bitch she has been since Civil War II.

This isn't picking up. It is like Hunger Games meets Michael Bay. The art is fantastic, so at least there is that.

This was a real chore to sit through

Peter David rips off Killing Joke and thinks nobody will notice. Other than the shameful lifting, the old man character was decently written and Dodson freaking out about her breakfast burrito was the most accurate depiction of America I have ever seen in a comic.

It is 2019. You don't need to explain the definition of "insanity" anymore, even though you said crazy... and I know crazy and insanity are splitting hairs. It is a total cliche at this point. Also, the villagers are seriously throwing molotov cocktails at a demonic creature with its head and ribcage on fire, I would say the definition of stupidity should apply to them, but it actually seemed to scare Carnage off.

After liking a Cullen Bunn comic with Funeral Pyre, this is really disappointing.

I do like John Romita Jr on original work like Silencer. However, when he is rendering classic heroes it just looks wrong and some of his action scenes feel a lot more half-assed than in Silencer. I also have deep dissatisfaction that Bendis stuck his hand in the Legion of Doom cookie jar, because now we have to piece together when this showdown takes place... even though in the main JL book their showdown seems to have a lot of buildup, and finality to it.

I wanted to like this, but by this point I was so done with it. So this issue is practically the same as Supergirl, except some of the dialogue is changed and Supergirl has her red skirt look instead of the updated look. For that reason this book was pretty crap to read, but it does go into more detail than Supergirl in some places. I just prefer Marc Andreyko's style.

I really don't like that this is how the Legion are introduced... talk about giving yourself a tug by claiming something you wrote is the most important moment in a shared universe's future. What about all the other cosmic books where war across the galaxy still happens? Hell, Omega Men had planets already form a United Planets type deal and all it took was one fascist planet to create despair and war.

Really not good. My only praise would be that I like how the narrator talks about Superman in absolutes.

It did a good job of placing itself in the original (and much better) tale, but it eventually just becomes such a mucky bit of mindless killing that you have to doublecheck to make sure it ISN'T a Cullen Bunn title.

This seemed to have potential at one point, but unfortunately it fails in the end.

Feels like watching a superhero show for middleaged housewives.

I am the entirely wrong audience for this book, and with that said, I did not enjoy this at all. Why would the gender of scientists matter enough to create a group? And they made leaps in scientific progress? Are you shitting me? Are they even out of high school yet? Guruhiru's art was the only saving grace for this pile. I feel like I just read a 22 page webcomic parody of Spider-man. If every character is your comedy relief, where is your relief from the "comedy"? It would be nice to get one must-read arc of ASM. So far the closest one to me would be the J. Jonah Jameson one.

I see why this book is banking on variant covers to stay afloat. If you thought Catwoman's art was too good, Selina is too old, too respectable... and not ditzy enough - well, do I have the book for you. If you really must read something with Black Cat, skip this and instead pick up the .HU issue of Hunted that stars Black Cat. That did a much better job of telling an engaging story and presenting Felicia as a relatable character.

Slightly better than last issue, if you want to see my problems with this book, look back at that one.

Historians believe aliens created the pyramids because they are racist towards Egyptians, cops' biggest fear are black people, immensely ignorant white principals with zero manners. All preached to us by a hipster white dude who probably hasn't ever been discriminated against in his life. What a shitshow. It's a shame there are so many stupid lines like that, because I was into this book on the premise and art alone. You need to remember as a writer to remove your mindset from your "world changing" Twitter persona once in a while, especially if you choose to bring no new angles to the table and jump to conclusions.

Because "Transporting of the Inhumans" doesn't sound as interesting. I called this from day 1.

There were two lines that I really related to in this issue. "*Please* stop talking" and "like trash the Gang of Harleys must be disposed of". I hope the ending is a sign that change is coming to Harley Quinn.

This is completely unacceptable from a flagship title. It is just a 24 page wank of everything Bendis has created.

This is like one of those dime-a-dozen, E-tier, and creatively bankrupt anime you see while scrolling through CrunchyRoll. It is as equally baffling to me that people accept this mediocrity as those anime. I only read this to see the Filipina heroine Wave. Which was also nothing to write home about.

"A scream of pure agony. A soul tortured beyond its limits." How did the book know what I was feeling internally while reading this?

Why am I reading this? Well, there is a future issue with Black Cat and Pete getting married on the cover... let's go with that.

I'm sorry but... I gave this series 4 issues. The art has always been great, but the story is incredibly light. I am actually shocked anyone can get any entertainment from this issue. It has the story telling of a 3rd person sci-fi shooter like Mass Effect, but only the comments your NPC team mates make during combat. Absolutely and totally atrocious. Good God. That was probably my harshest review ever, but wow... just wow.

Ugly and sloppy writing.

Wow subtlety is definitely not this book's strong suit. The villain is a literal misogynist. There are also so many cameos, it is almost like Kelly Thompson is afraid Captain Marvel isn't interesting enough on her own.

If you ever see Neal Adams credited as anything more than an artist, don't even hesitate, just run. Run very far.

I am absolutely speechless by how bad this book is. Neal Adams shouldn't be allowed to write anything. He is a good artist, but his written work is nonsensical and actually hurts to read. I will admit though I did like some of the insults he wrote for Deadman, but the greatest insult was the back of the book where it confirms DC let him write another Batman book after Batman Odyssey.

Are you a Fourth World fan? Then avoid this like the plague. Are you a modern feminist who blames males for all the world's problems? If so, this is what you are looking for.

The dialogue is the equivalent of Twitter stereotypes.

Let's never talk about this one ever again.

Mark Russel got angry about comicsgate and wrote a whole issue about it. Harley deserves better than to be a trashy soap box.

This was unbelievably bad. Seeley can not write the DC characters at all. His He-Man stuff, some of his indie, etc. is good... but not this.

Really didn't like this one. Mostly because of how underdeveloped her parents are, where they don't even resemble a human being and are more an irrational, ignorant plot device to make some sort of political statement. The art was also pretty iffy.

I'm sorry but that scene of them singing and dabbing... all I can say is this is a festering boil on Neil Gaiman and Sandman's legacy.

Well that was completely and utterly pointless. Colour me shocked.

I got annoyed more than the X-men did.

Got to be honest, I don't know if I even registered what I just read and I didn't care enough to reread panels when I felt like I missed something. The worst sin of any comic is to have no point or hook, and this series felt like it had no reason to exist. This is an insult to Jack Kirby's creation.

This series overstayed its welcome about 28 issues in(including the previous volume). The people who were a fan the whole way through... I respect you, but man I think it is repetitious trash by this point. Is it any surprise the book opens with Galactus? The highlight of the entire series? The dialogue is meant to be humourous, but the joke wore off 5 issues in. What's left of the dead humour ends up making Bendis' teenage characters seem like they are people of very few words. #BetroyerOfHope Seriously though, I do respect the book for what it did early on. I just had my fill of it. Happy for the fans who got to see it all the way to 50, that is rare in modern comics.
